Can't send SMSes - Galaxy Note GT-N7000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi, I have note been able to send any SMS'es for the last 1 or 2 days, neither with the stock app or Go SMS. The only error message I get is a notification "Unable to send message"
I can receive SMS'es, I can call people, I can answer calls, I can use my data... I just can't send SMS'es.
It MIGHT have something to do with me playing around with market enabler (to use all the google services).
Currently running the stable CM 10.1.3
If anyone has any suggestions, then please help me

Did you check your apn

Hasn't apn only got to do with mms/internet?
I set my apn settings up again according to this:
Name: Plus
APN: plus
Authentication type: PAP
APN type: default
activated it and nothing changed

On TW Roms there used to be a setting called message center number which if incorrect could cause problems with sending SMS. Cant seem to find that in cm

Mms does not work!

I have always had mms issues on gingerbread, 90% of the time it will not work. This is not carrier related as i have tried every method and various apns. It must be 2.3.3 related as I have tried a dozen roms as well. Is there a fix for this??
Cheers

Correct number entered in MMS settings message centre ???

Normally the best way to get this configured is through requesting the automatic configuration message from the provider via an sms.

Not always available, for instance Virgin are unable to send to my SGS, the only thing they recommend is you send one to yourself first.
I have had issues and it took me a while to resolve, it is nearly 99% down to the APN settings you use, my latest GB install stuffed me at first, there were NO APN settings in there !! had me foxed for a while before I remembered and checked.

True. Easiest way. But as the above poster said... Not all providers do that.
Almost certainly an apns problem. Use Google to find the right apns for your provider and make sure your mms apns is set properly.
I had a similar problem, fixed it by adding HTTP:// before the URL in the mms apns.

Done all the suggestions above 10 times, tried various apn configurations as well. I really can't fix this fault

Cannot receive MMS messages

Hey guys I just got an HTC Vivid a few days ago and I love the phone, the screen is such an upgrade from my iPhone 4(in usability).
I do have an issue where I cannot receive any MMS messages at all. I can send them just fine and I can sent receive regular texts, but picture messages just come up with a download button but once pressed it will say downloading and switch back to saying download.
I already called AT&T about it and they where unable to do anything about it. Any ideas? If I do not get this figured out by Monday, I will likely try to exchange my phone...
Make sure you have a LTE data plan provisioned and you have selected the default apn. Also you may want to go into a corp store and get a new sim.

i had this problem about 1.5 weeks ago and it was a network issue... it was resolved within a day or 2... what usually worked for me was to reboot the phone, after ATT fixed the problem then all was good.
It was indeed an issue with the default APN settings. After setting the APN to what is described in the link below my MMS works 100% perfectly! Thanks for the help.

I don't have Vivid in front of me ATM but maybe you can try and create a new APN instead of modifying the existing one.
Yes you can press the options button and create a new APN.
Sorry for the bump of a thread. This is what I get. "One or more of the message components have been deleted by MMS Adaptation. Either the message was too large or the components were unsuitable for your terminal".
Sender was using an iphone 4. I can receive other pictures from my friends 4s.
Would updating the AP fix this and would doing so effect anything with the network?
Sorry I am a noob.

I've had this same issue when I was sending a picture to a friend with an iPhone 4. That's the message they received when trying to open the MMS.

What apn are you using. If there isn't one, that's your problem.

Go into settings and then find mobile networks, then look for access point names (apn) and see if has any in there.

no i dont have any in there
FWIW, I've sent many SMS from an unlocked Android device (Xperia Active) w/ out any APN at all (SMS uses the voice system). MMS is another story, iirc it uses the SMS system as a notifier then data APN to actually download the message.
Is your Note setup to be sending MMS instead somehow?
The APN is going to be different depending on what carrier you have. The best way is is to probably search Google for it.
Thanks you beat me to it lol. I know missing apns can cause weird stuff on some of those prepay, straight talk etc I wasn't sure of the carrier I just about to ask

MMS messages not working. Owain80 rom.

Hi all
I've been having some issues for a while with sending and receiving MMS messages. I'm using Owain build #80, with the included kernel. I'm on BB 1035.21_20110725 and RIL 0725 (V10d, Europe). My carrier is BiBob (who is on the CM MMS carrier list), and my MMS settings appear to be correct.
When receiving a MMS message I can see that one has been sent to me, but I'm not able to download the image. It's just stuck at a "downloading message" and three days later my carrier lets me see the image on their webpage instead, when sending an image it's just stuck at "sending".
I hope someone is able to help me, and that I've just missed some trivial setting somewhere.
Thanks!
Noone else having had a similar problem and came up with a solution?
I had this problem on a cm7 build.. here's what I did...
1. I installed go SMS from the market
2. Googled the APN settings for my network (pay as you go and contract are different)
3. Manually entered the APN settings in go SMS (found under ...settings .. mms settings.. manual apn...
Viola mms working.. try that and let me know how u get on

Problems sending sms

Hi, how are you guys? I have the following problem. When I go to send a SMS, the message it wasn't show into the send SMS, and it wasn't sent. I have stock ROM 5.1.1 with ElementalX
I didn't notice the error before, I installed the ROM again on Saturday, and I saw the issue today when I tried to send a SMS.
Anybody else got this problem?

The aPN settings are ok. The problem looks that it's in the application. When I press send, the sms don't show up in the screen or there wasn't sended.
Just in case I deleted all the APN settings, and reinstalled all again, but the problem persist.
It's possible reinstall only the sms app?
The rom it's LMY48M.

Try installing Handscent or chomper and see if you get the same result. If your using the stock messenger, you can disable it and uninstall the updates but not uninstall the app.

Yes, the APNs are ok. I have two. One for Internet and another for MMS. I did a "Reset to default" and the information for each APNs are the same as the provider.
I had few problems with sms before as well and I just installed a different sms app (like Google Messenger) and made it default one. Everything worked fine after and it usually even looks better.

I can't see it being the kernel, I was running the same one but I flashed back to the stock one. Never had a problem sending sms on either though to be honest. Did you check your providers website to make sure it isn't on their end? Also can you receive texts?

Yes, the most strange it's that I can receive sms, for that reason today I realized of this issue. I received a sms and when I was to reply, I couldn't.
The kernel it's stable. I used it before and I could send a sms.
I hate to say it but maybe factory reset? clear both cache... if that isn't it..... reflash with stock kernel and see if that does it..... just dont flash userdata so you dont loose anything.... it sure sounds like a settings problem though... who is the provider?
Are you using Hangouts? I had this problem and then switched over to Messenger and its all good now. Might be a totally different issue, but maybe worth a shot.

Yes, I think so, but I don't want to jaja. I will try to go back to the stock kernel, and if that doesn't work, yes I will do a factory reset.

I disable Hangouts, but the problems still persist. You go to Apps > Hangouts and disable it? o you did something else?

So, it isn't that. neither the kernel. I have to do a factory reset. I will try with a TWRP BackUp, and if does not work, then I will do it.
I did a factory reset, and the problem was solved. Thanks to all!!!!
