I recently switched from a Nexus 4 to a Moto X; both on T-Mobile, both stock, locked, and un-rooted. I'm noticing that when I send & receive group MMS messages from certain people their messages are coming in as individual MMS messages and do not go into the group messages that I sent and show only addressed to me. One of these people has a Galaxy S4 and another a Galaxy Nexus, both on 4.2.2 and both have the group MMS option checked in the messaging app (as do I). I never had a problem with my Nexus 4 so I suspect there may be something going on with the Moto X. Is anyone else having issues with group MMS messaging or does anyone have a solution? Again, I am fully stock, locked, and un-rooted... and I have the group MMS option checked in the messaging app. Thanks!
Both phones use the AOSP mms so I would lean towards it being an APN issue than something wrong with the phone.

Thanks for the reply but I'm pretty sure if it were an APN issue then MMS wouldn't work period.

its not always the carrier and can just be the phones sending it differently than what ATT expects from group text. but there is an entire hoopla of things going on in the background with who gets to you was type of signals and blah blah blah. I use group me for groups of friends that we talk to or discuss stuff and post things all the time. I actually like it better because you can set up different notifications so you don't have your phone going off all day when multiple people are sending stuff back and forth.
Getting people to use certain apps for certain types of messages won't work when it comes to some people like older family members or people who are intimidated by technology. Just gotta hope that things work themselves out eventually... I hope that Hangouts does indeed integrate SMS & MMS and solves some of these compatibility problems.

Don't think that is going to happen. Both things you said. Hangouts won't be able to fix the problem because apple won't have it on there. Nor will everyone use hangouts on their phone because I don't. And if they don't have Wifi i doubt hangouts is going to start defaulting people to use the internet instead of a text message but perhaps.
2nd, the phone companies are set up how they are and the price to change all of that for the little benefit of sending texts over 170 characters (or how ever much) between ATT and Vzw as well as better group messaging will never be worth changing how all their software is built. As a metaphor, it might be something similar to changing computers from using 1s and 0s, doubt it is that extreme but its kind of like that lol.
Both of those are just opinions but figured I'd share.

Hangouts exists on iOS though there won't be a way to integrate SMS sending on that end, of course. But yeah, as you say, we're all screwed when it comes to MMS interoperability.

Hello everyone, new on this forum. wanted to say hello.
I own an LG O2X and suffer from almost all of the problems the rest of you mentioned.
I've been following the threads for some time now. Hope LG fixes this phone soon because as for now everyone I show the new phone to doesn't understand "what's so good about it?" LOL
i'm a happy one
have had O2X for a week now, and am pretty happy with it. but it is my first android, and i'm running MCR/Fear edition.
the only thing that i am missing is wi-fi calling (uma), which is only stock-installed in G2X.

Why can't you use skype instead? Or is it not the same?
Ive had mine for about a month now and cant fault it in anyway, compaired it against my old desire and friends iphones and it's on top without a doubt.
Gingerbread will be rolling out in the next couple of weeks i would of thought which will make it even better ;-)
I have it since yesterday and no problems so far, its lightning fast but I like the looks of my arc more. Still in doubt which one will be my daily phone, I like them both.

I didn't look into Skype, because my wife (with regular cell phone) can't reach me on Skype (free account), unless they provide free incoming call number.
I prefer (1) UMA/GAN, (2) Google voice/Talkatone-like app on android, and (3) other SIP, but that's just me. Beside, I think any T-Mobile user should be able to use UMA/GAN via app.
I have a feeling that eventually telephone/cell-phone will migrate to IP based protocol, and service providers will become merely data provider. The question is when and if they will be willing to. I'm sure there will be issues and reluctance. I read somewhere and Verizon is looking into voice over IP (or a name similar to that), to enable "talk and surf at the same time" like GSM can. Now I'm babbling.... Anyhow, CM7 might have already included UMA/GAN. I just need to test it when I have a chance.

I totally agree !
Don't ask me why - but I have been back to using AT&T's default voicemail system which isn't all that impressive but I got tired of Google Voice's horrible voice-to-text translation of my voicemails.
Needlesstosay, I am sure MANY are aware that AT&T has been having some sort of ongoing ticket with their voicemail system. I discovered this when I called their customer care the other day and they blatantly admitted they were aware of it. They attempted to reset my voicemail much to no avail. It still continues to ring 4 times and then still says its dialing but I hear nothing but silence. They told me if I still had the problem today to call them back.
I honestly doubt that calling AT&T back will resolve anything. However, I'm just curious how many others are having the same issue and what the outcome has been for you? Please post your results. Thanks!
sorry i went to google voice voicemail and never looked back ....
Same here!
I use GV but I see the transcriptions as a bonus feature. If it works, thats great. Otherwise, i dont bother with it. You can generally get the idea of what they're saying, even if its not 100% accurate.
Yup, gv ftw.

First off, Let me say this. In Ohio (where I live), and most other states, it is legal to record your phone calls as long as one of the individuals involved are aware the recording is taking place (no phone tapping). Some other states it is illegal period, thus leaving it in the operators hands to do the research. This research has been done, and for me, this is legal. Please dont turn this into a right or wrong post. Too many of those exist already.
Legal bullcrap aside, I need to be able to record my phone calls from my droid bionic. I am already rooted, and willing to spend some money on this. I know there are many other that are as well.
I've tried all the popular recorders in the market, and they all have issues on most of the droids, including the bionic. It appears that the software disables this feature, and I need it unlocked in my phone. If someone were to be able to bypass this restriction, I'm sure I wouldn't be the only one sending donations.
If someone would be so kind as to look into programming the bionic to activate this feature, I would be forever greatful. I had the feature on my old Samsung Saga, and it helped out so much.
I am also interested in this. I assume it shouldn't be too hard...just like the 12 and 13 channels on 802.11. Unless maybe Motorola disables it at the firmware level.
I've been reading and it seems like recording my voice is not a problem, but recording the caller is an issue. (App wise not legally, stay focused) I've not heard definitively if the issue is hardware or not. At the risk of distracting the posse in the quest for an unlocked bootloader, does anyone firmly know one way or the other. (I've read the ROM is blocking it, and the hardware is not capable.)
For what it's worth, if someone is willing to delve into it I would put in on it.
As Google voice as my primary number when I get a call I can press 4 to record. A voice says voice recording or something like that and when I hang up I have an email with the recording. A work around if you need to record something.

Yeah, Google voice is nice, but sucks for recording. I make most phone calls, I dont receive them too often. Plus, you have a lady that loudly says "this call will be recorded" after you press the number 4 into their ear.
If it's the rom, I would like to know how to change it. Many motorola owners especially, would be very appreciative of such a modification. I like it when my call was recorded and i could choose whether to save or not with allcallrecord. Usually not, but it was nice when i could if i talked about something important.
Google Voice is not a good alternative, It kind of works, but I would like the whole thing to work.

Actually MIUI isn't available for the Bionic, and I know the Droid X version of MIUI says it is recording but the file is corrupt and too small to have actually done any recording.
There does need to be a program that handles call recording discreetly, while there is a distasteful side of this, there are plenty of legitimate reasons. I'm a journalist for instance and would love to start doing phone interviews with my cell instead of going to the office and getting setup with special gear. Our celebrity interviews are always taped (with permission). Also investigative reporting... which is why I said discreetly.
There are plenty of businesses that would pay decent money for a good feature like this. If someone is doing this project, the best way IMO would be to have an option to record call, and record in the room, and have it save to phone and option to save to drop box (real time) so for instance...
If me as a journalist decides to record a Chicago Police officer breaking the law it would go right to drop box. They have made it a felony to do this, but as a member of the media I'm entitled constitutionally speaking to record a public servant and to report on it. Normally what would happen is they would take my phone, beat the **** out of me, arrest me, and then either plant drugs or a gun on me.
I know that sounds odd, but we have issues in Chicago.
we dont have a custom kernel yet so its not possible. once we get a new custom kernel we should be able to have that integrated
That will be awesome. Keep me posted f something comes up. I'll keep my eye out as well.
new custom kernel
I am also aggravated that I can't get an app which will record calls on my bionic. I live in a one-party state, so it is legal for me to record my coversations....discreetly or otherwise. Like the others, I find myself in a situation where I really need this functionality. Does anyone have an ETA on when this will be made available? Will I need to buy a new phone because it will require a hardware fix? Or can it be fixed with an OS update?
I realize the actual "fix" is probably not available yet....but it seems like some of you might be on the down-low with why it doesnt' work and what it will take to fix it.

I believe its a software fix/modification. Something would have to be put in place to actually make you not be able to record. Hopefully one of the roms will allow this to happen.

Yay!! Anyone know if the Samsung Charge/Stratosphere or any of the other 4G phones record calls? If they do, I may be switching. For all that I do with my bionic, recording phone calls reigns precidence over dual core and webtop, not to mention a glitchy phone in general.
Turns out, the Stratosphere works with Total Recall. I'll try the Samsung Droid Charge and see. I may end up getting it instead.

Yes, agreed!
You need a custom kernel that supports this feature, which motorolas do not. So until the bootloader gets unlocked or somebody figures a way around that it is more than likely not going to happen.
After using the Nexus 4 for 24 hours, I have found I have two gripes with this phone. The first is there is no audible alert if you receive a text message while on a call. In other words, if someone sends you a text message while you are on a call, you will not be made aware of it until you turn on the screen and look at it. The other gripe I have is the call waiting beep is almost completely inaudible, and the second beep sometimes doesn't even occur. In other words, if you are on a phone call, and a second call comes in, you most likely will not know about it and thus will not be know to answer the call. Today I have missed several phone calls because I was on the phone and a call waiting beep could not be heard. As an experiment, I got on a call and then called my phone from a third phone just to hear the volume of the call waiting beep...it is so low it may as well not be there. To make matters worse, after the first beep, the second beep takes so long to occur, your voicemail may likely pick it up either right before or right after the second beep occurs.
Software, not nexus 4 issue. I'm sure there's an app or will be implemented into ROM to solve your problem.

The software comes stock on the Nexus 4 thus it is a Nexus 4 issue. Not being alerted to a second call isn't something that can be easily excused with, "there's an app or will be implemented into a ROM". A person shouldn't need to install apps or hack their phone just so they can know when a second call is coming in...after all it's a smartPHONE..

Maybe not being alerted of calls isn't a big deal to you, but there are some of us that get important calls throughout the day, and not being alerted to them is not acceptable. Call me old-fashioned but I expect a phone to actually be able to handle phone duties, and alerting me to a second call is one of those duties. That's a pretty basic expectation, and a glaring flaw that needs to be corrected.

It's clear I like the phone? I haven't stated how I feel about the phone besides the two issues I have with it. Also, for your information, complaining is how issues get resolved because it brings it more attention. Some of us aren't content with resting on our laurels and accepting the subpar. Furthermore, 3rd party software should not be required just to get simple basic functionality. Instead of excusing shortcomings, you should be demanding a complete device. Also, to be clear, I want to like the phone and want to see it succeed. I have a vested interest in it (which I won't get into publicly), so it actually benefits me for it to be a good phone and do well. That said, if it's falling short somewhere then it needs to be corrected and not just covered up.

It's set to have both an audible alert and vibrate on incoming messages. The problem is, during a phone call, neither of these things happens. There literally is no alert during a phone call other than the icon on the screen. In other words, if you don't happen to be looking at your screen, you will never know you have a text message if you are on a phone call.

First of all, it's not a Nexus 4 issue, it's a 4.2 issue.
Second of all, I doubt Google would remove a feature they have had since...idk 2.2(the first version of Android I had). Try a restore, or mess with the settings...or maybe you're holding it wrong.
I have a group text with my parents and brother. They are getting my messages but I'm getting nothing from them. On Beta 2 and have reset the Android messages app. One of the users is an iPhone if that matters. On Verizon.

So maybe it was a coincidence. This weekend was my first time flying. I wonder if it was an airplane mode issue. Didn't really notice it and wasn't on my phone much after flying in on Thursday. and Saturday night I was messing around on my phone and realized I hadn't heard from my family group message. So after clearing the cache and doing all those things. I toggled airplane mode on and off after doing a couple resets that didn't do anything and all of my messages came in at once. So don't know if it was a coincidence or if it was an issue with airplane mode sticking or something. It is solved now. At least so far

Not rooted or anything. toggling airplane mode helped for some reason. I still do get this invalid file or something along those lines error occasionally. I'm assuming it's picture messages based on the context around those messages that just come in as invalid file. On that given incident that this is referring to I was traveling and had a layover so the second time that I went into airplane mode it must have hung up for some reason.
