how is your moto x twist camera doing ? have you ever felt slow perforance or take time when you twist the phone and how long it show up and ready to snap a picture ? and when you snap a picture is it normal to take 1-2.5 second for picture to be snap when you already press the screen ?
and do you guys feel any lagging when you doing this step when your phone condition is filled with apps , photo and video in your phone folder ?
Turn off auto HDR for faster pictures.

I just ran a marathon over the weekend at disney, and used the twist to launch the camera to take pictures along the track so I wasnt fumbling through the interface, and found it launched almost immediately, and was able to take pictures immediately as well. I love this feature of this phone!

really ? thattime you already filled your phone with a bunch of video and picture and apps too into your moto x phone ? cause I'm just thinking the more you add more apps into your phone the more it will make everything lagging heavily .
It's working great for me. I like the "rapid fire" photos that you can take by pressing and holding the screen. Great for getting a decent photo when things are happening fast.

Hey guys,
i own my One for a couple of days now and I'm a bit unsure if the cam is really okay.
I'm on 1.29 and some pictures are really blurry on different areas, but then again the same camera shot is completely okay and sharp.
Here are examples of what I meant.
The first two pictures were taken from the same location and you'll see the difference (besides the sky is not in line in one of them).
The third one is really blurry on the right side but this can't be a out of focus thing because of the small sensor and wide angle.
The other pictures I made were completely fine so far.
Is this a known issue? How can I test the camera better? Do I need a replacement?
Thanks
Daniel

Maybe a better example from a couple of minutes ago.
I did the same shot a couple of times and here is the difference (this is a crop from the left side of the picture)
Mine does the same thing I don't know why...

The distortion seems to indicate a problem with the rolling shutter, along with movement in the camera. I'd hazard a guess and say your hand was moving slightly when the first picture was taken. The effect shouldn't be that pronounced, though, you shouldn't even been able to see it, really.
I haven't even figured out which way the shutter moves on this one.. hm. Something to look at.
I'm not sure if i understood you right but the Shutter time was 1/1200 so i don't think that shaking should be a problem.
Also it's only partial, as you see the house is perfectly sharp!
Yeah, but CMOS sensors don't capture the image all at once. It's like a scanline renderer or an old CRT television, it starts at the top and works its way down to the bottom. That's what creates the "warping" effect on videos shot with cameras like this (you can Google it, it's typically called the "rolling shutter effect"). If you switch between the two photos you posted, there's clearly some pretty nasty distortion happening on one of them (probably the first one, with the blurring).
But, the bottom line is that you shouldn't see it at all, or it should be so slight as to be unnoticeable on a still frame shot. I've seen it on videos I've taken with my older phones, but never on a still shot, and never as bad as what I see in those shots you posted. I'm not sure if that's a problem in the software/firmware of the camera (in which case it can be fixed), or a problem with the CMOS sensor itself not actually capturing the image as quickly as it was supposed to.
Was there anything particular about these shots that was different from the norm? Were they captured in a batch, or just a single click? ZOE mode, or just straight up? The stock HTC camera app, or a third-party app? And is the phone ROMd? I don't think they've got the camera working quite right in most ROMs right now, although I don't know if the effect would be what you're describing.
Mind you, I don't know squat about actually fixing the issue, but I can hopefully help narrow it down to what's causing it.
Curse my not-having-the-phone-yet-edness. I'd test all this myself, but my One doesn't get here until tomorrow. I do intend on running the camera through its paces over the first week or so I have it, though.
same here
I have the same problem sometimes..
Thanks for your explaination. I also heard that the OIS may cause this.
And as there are a couple of people with the same issue (in this thread and over the net) maybe other users haven't experienced it YET and it's a software issue. I'm really quite unsure what to do.
The shots were taken with the original Camera app, without Zoe, with original non-rooted firmware, with normal automatic settings.
I've experienced this about 4 times now and i shot about 30-40 Pictures so far.
I've also had the problem a few times, and outdoors in daylight where shutter speed should be so fast add to negate slight hand movement. Also the blur will sometimes be in only half the picture... Odd.

I had the same issue with the camera. .. I spoke with htc advisors and they told me that is hardware problem(lense or focus). If you have problem try to take a video and look if it's all ok.. my was keep focusing on the right hand side every few seconds. ...so I send my phone back to them for repair.. waiting now ..

I have a sony xperia Z C6603 and I absolutely hate something about the phone. Before i take pictures it looks great (amazing even) as i take the photo the picture is perfect, then after a second it processes it so much i look more like an alien from outer space than a human being. Not only this but the files are also ridiculously small compare to all other phones. I've downloaded the FV-5 app and it's great, but my photos from my front camera stll lokks like horse s***. i do not want other setting configurations, because nothing fixes it... Has anybody made a fix for this via rooting or whatever? i've searched all over the internet after a solution , but can't seem to find one. One of you geniuses must have a solution, right? (have the 4.3 android version and 10.4.B.0.569 build number).
Not yet. People have tried.many things but.no luck so far. At least Sony finally updated the camera app which was the same since x1 was released

geez.... Yah... my photos did not get better at all, haha. If they could just change the format to JPG or whatever (know that is big files) that would be fantastic, but nooo.... (now referring to sony and not XDA-developers) Great phone, TERRIBLE photo software.

That does not help with the secondary camera, it's bad quality no matter what I do.
My girlfriend has a Iphone 5 which deinitely takes better pictures than mine, I think you all agree that this is unacceptable, we must stand together and crush the underpowered Iphone with the wrath of our mighty hardware and fixed software!

we can see it two ways
the camera hardware sucks and we can't do anything about it
or the camera software sucks and we have to wait for sony to update their binaries and libraries and other stuff. which we also cannot do anything about.

Hello!
I have installed AOKP 4.3 ROM on my Xperia Z. When I need to take a fast picture, I just use auto ISO/Exposure...
When I wanna get better picture in low light, I just use a little bit tweaking In low light, when I'm taking picture of some close object, I just put ISO on 100/200 (max), use flash and that's it! When I'm taking picture a little bit further (3/4 meters), I use 200/400 ISO, and use flash if I can (very big con of our device is bad flash). When I'm doing night portrait, just put ISO on 400 and turn on HDR, photos will look awsome believe me
Tonight I could upload some pictures from my Z, just to give you some clue.
P.S. When you're using front camera, turn on HDR you will get a much better photo quality

I just flashed the ROM after aloooooooot of work and I currently have the PAC-MAN ROM and the picture quality is amazing. It takes pictures in JPEG automaticallly and the files aren't that big! If anyone wants to do this I can deliver some links which actually unlocks bootloader, roots and flashes ROM, looked for the right downloads for ages.
Anyone have any suggestions for any camera apps that are quick and have low shutter lag? I'm not looking for any fancy effects or anything, just an ability to take photos quickly.
I noticed that the default Moto Camera has a lot of shutter lag.

I would also be interested if you find out anything. I've tried the Google stock camera as well, but not sure it's any better. Other possibilities are VCSO Camera or Camera FV-5. Whatever you try and find out, I'd appreciate your thoughts on it. I've tried both, but couldn't say for certain if it was quicker and haven't sat down to methodically test them.

I was taking pictures at a family BBQ and the lag on the stock camera was between 1 and 3 seconds. Half the pics don't even have the person I was photographing in them. By the time it shot the pic, they had already moved on.

Heh, I totally feel you. I have a 10 month old kid that I want to get pictures of while he's doing things, and the shutter lag means lots and lots of blurry pictures. I've often wondered, why is it that we cannot simply pull stills from video? For example, engage a "high-speed camera mode" that captures video for a brief period (~1-3 seconds) and breaks it up as stills that you can then choose. I imagine the image quality in the stills is poor and that you don't notice it while it's in playback mode, but less-than-ideal stills may still be better than blurred single shots. Just a thought... my knowledge of photography is very poor, so I imagine there are definite reasons why this hasn't been done, but I am curious.
Loving my new moto g. The camera has improved in many ways when compared to gen1. However, whenever I click pictures with the front camera especially when not in sunlight the picture comes shaky and blur. I attached a screenshot of how the pic is supposed(screenshot in the camera app) to come n how it ends up coming.
P.s.- I don't have shaky hands
Probably the front camera aperture is not wide enough to take pictures with faster shutter in low light situations. If it sets the shutter speed too low a minimal shake will make your pic blur.
Edit :Can you see what ISO, aperture and shutter speed is being used (check picture details)?
Front camera is one of the worst components on android phones...
Even the rear camera is not that great on the majority of android phones, so nothing to expect that on the new moto g that the front camera would be anything better...

It would take you a second to do the same thing. Don't be lazy m8.
Sadly mine isn't here yet (on pre-order in UK, releases on the 15th. My original Moto G broke a couple of days ago too so it was just as well this is releasing.)
I have a problem with the front camera. In low light condition, my camera suffers a delay in comparison of reality, as if it was lag. Anyone else with this same problem?

Finally dispatched at like 5:15pm today.
Says it'll be here between Thursday and Friday. Don't want to wait so long
I'm trying to take a panorama with my Z3C. Lighting is good (bright daylight). I've panned from very slow to very quickly. Everytime, it says it cannot take the picture and tells me to pan faster. "Cannot take picture. Please pan faster."
I also tried it indoors just to see. Same error message.
Any ideas? The superior auto mode and manual modes work fine. This is my first time trying panorama and it's simply not working. Thanks.
Edit: One more piece of info. In the little "preview" at the bottom of the screen that shows a tiny version of the panorama that is being taken, it IS filling in as expected, so it appears that things are working. But when I take my finger off the shutter it gives me the error message.

It takes practice to get it right. I believe that if you also change the altitude it will say the same. So try to pan at the same height or it will also say the same thing.
Thanks for the input. I've tried about 50 times. Can't seem to get it!

I gave up on the panorama, it literally is the worst thing I have ever tried. I might just get a Panorama app for taking those types of pics. I know the struggle that you are having. The only way to get it to work, is to do a full sweep, that seems to be it.

Nope, didn't know that, and it makes Sony panorama mode completely worthless. I don't always need my panorama to be the maximum width permitted by the software. Sometimes i only need it to be slightly wider that one picture would allow.
I think this is the first phone I've had in years that forces panoramas to be the same size every time. Ridiculous.

Hey mate, thanks a lot for mentioning that you use Google Camera for Panoramas. I want to purchase the Z3C but have this huge concern over the small resolution of panoramas.
Could you please upload a good highest possible res panorama image here? I want it just to check the quality of the panorama. I don't want panorama images to be limited by Sony's hardware, that's the thing. Could you please upload a full size panorama? Thanks a lot!
