Hi guys.
Im new here and i cant find my answers from other treads and if my questions hv been answerd then im deeply sorry for my mistake guys. Im quite a nooby in this and this might be a silly questions. My incredible s is s-offed and rooted by Revolutionary and CWM ver 4.0.0.8
Here goes...
Does it a must or important to flash eng hboot to flash new rom?
Im using the stock hboot now.
Tempting to flash either Cyanogen 7 or Virtuous Unity with sense 3.0.
What are the requirements guys?
Does it OK if im using CWM 4.0.0.8?
Thanks in advance if anyone can assist.

A good way to find out what the requirements are for installing a particular ROM is to read the instructions in that ROM's thread.

If you are S-Off with Revolutionary there is no need to flash the Eng HBoot because the Revo HBoot gives you the same functionality.
Here is a simply thing to remember. You flash custom Roms using a custom recovery such as ClockworkMod. You flash official HTC Roms using HBoot.
Ok. Im goin to do that. Thanks.
Ok. I wonder how im going to flash the official rom in hboot because ive backed it up using the rom manager. Is flashing from hboot, the file has to be an IMG.zip file? Sorry tpbklake, im a total noob.

Yes, any flashable file from HBOOT needs to be named PG32IMG.zip. You wouldn't use it to flash a backup made with ROM Manager, you would use ClockworkMod to do that.
In the Development section there is a thread that contains all of the official HTC RUU/ROM files for the Incredible S. When you manually extract the ROM.zip file the RUU, this is the file you would rename to PG32IMG.zip and use HBOOT to install.
So again, for the custom ROMs, the requirements are usually spelled out in the original post and you would use ClockworkMod to flash and install those.
Ok. Its clear for me about this now. Thanks a lots. A new thing ive learned from u and i will continue learning and researching. Thanks again guys.
Hi i was bought incredible s an it was from stock s-off.I have install cwm with pg32img in order to root my phone.then i install the file from zip from inside the cwm that it gives me super user permitions.my phone was finally rooted in 2 minutes...Today i receive an new ota update in version 2.3.5 with sense 3.I down load it and try to update my phone but it stops in a black screen with an android image with a yellow triangle.i think that it cant let me update because i dont have the stock recovery.I want to ask how i can remove cwm an return to stock recovery in order to update from ota.Or if this cant happen how to return to completly stock setings in order to update my phone.

Take a stock RUU and extract the ROM.zip. Then in the ROM.zip extract the reocovery.img file and use that to create a PG32IMG.zip like you used for CWM and flash that or you could boot into FASTBOOT mode and simply flash it using
FASTBOOT flash recovery[path to recovery.img]
Depending on how you have S-Off, you still mayn't be able to runthe OTA. If your HBOOT show AlphaRevx/Revolutionary on the first line, then the OTA will fail because you have a modified HBOOT. If you have been S-Off using the XTC clip then you should be good to go.
my device was shiped with s-off.in first line of hboot it says

Ok, you have permanent S-Off so you are good to go. Search this site for the answers. Since you installed CWM using a PG32IMG.zip, just copy that file and replace the recovery.img file with the one you extract from the ROM.zip.
Reading and researching on your own will benefit you in the long run.
Hi, you have right about reading....I find out how to extravt the rom.zip with the help of the process monitor.....I have now the recovery_signed.img.But i found nohting in how to create that pg32img.zip.I imagine that the way to create this is to zip the recovery_signed.img with the android-info.txt and name it PG32IMG.zip.Is this the right way or it is something else??
Thank you for your help

Yes that is exactly how you do it.
Thank you.I will do the whole process when a method to root the new version 2.3.5 appears....i want to ask if there is any speciall method to root the 2.3.5 vertion is needed, or the classic method of installing the root binaries from cwm from zip works?
Thanks again
well i create the pg32img zip i try to install it but it says model id incorrect update fail.i download that version RUU_Vivo_Gingerbread_S_HTC_WWE_2.30.405.1_Radio_20.2808.30.0 because in settings, in software info of my phone the radio version and the number of the version are the same with that version i download.....what is going wrong....

There is another way... Reboot Into bootloader and enter fastboot... Then get htc's fastboot binary and put it in the same place as your recovery... Connect your phone... Open terminal on your computer and cd to the location of the image then type
./fastboot flash recovery.img (name of image).img
Please verify the syntax just in case

Yes the procedure is the same to replace CWM with a stock HTC recovery if you are S-Off. If you have a HBOOT that is unlockable, then it needs to be in an unlocked state to flash to the recovery partition.
Firstly, thank you very very much,I didnt use to unlocked method. My cell phone is s off,so what ever happens(for example I will use ics,my hboot versiyon will change maybe) even after 2 two years later,if I decide to return stock recovery I will do same things, same transactions Did I understand correctly?I say one more time I use s off method

Since you used the Revolutionary S-OFF method, your HBOOT will not change. It protects itself from being over-written so you won't lose S-OFF. Because of that, even if you replace ClockworkMod recovery with the stock recovery, you will not be able to apply an OTA. It will fail and you will not be able to boot your phone until you replace flash ClockworkMod back to your phone and install a custom ROM.
If you really want to remove Revolutionary S-OFF and return to stock so you can receive and apply an OTA there is a thread that documents the procedure you need to follow in this forum.
Bottom line: If you are S-OFF with Revolutionary, do not try to apply an OTA period.
Thank you

so is this method avaiable for all version.I mean can everybody do that, for example my version is 2.3.5 hboot 2.0000 can I do that.

According to your other post, you have permanent S-OFF, so you will not be able to return back to S-ON.
However, if you follow the instructions in your other post and install CWM recovery, then yes, you would need to replace CWM recovery with the stock HTC recovery before you could apply the upcoming ICS OTA.

Hey Im bS-off thanks to Revolurionary, my HBOOT shows the "revolutionary" word. I wanted to update by OTA but as you said, it failed. How can I solve this problem? Can you help me plz? :crying:
Hello everyone.
I would first like to apologize for my English mistakes because I am French.
I know the questions I'm going to ask have been treated many times, but I find different answers and I'm confused .. So I would make things clear for all to understand.
I have a HTC One (M7_UL; PN0710000; CID: VODAP203) with S-ON. The bootloader is unlocked, and I installed the ARHD ROM 10.3.
I downloaded and I installed by the Recovery Radio_4A.16.3250.21.zip. Radio has been properly installed, when I read a topic for S-ON, the only way to update Radio is to install the firmware.zip, is it normal that my installation works?
I hesitate to make a return to the stock (change CID, installing RUU and lock the bootloader) to get updates as soon as possible and I wonder if the Radio, the HBOOT, etc. (firmware. zip) .. are updated with the OTA?
Thank you to those who take the time to answer my questions and help me.
there are a few radios circulating around that have been setup to be able to be installed via recovery. NORMALLY you install radios via firmware updates. and yes radio/hboot/firmware/recovery are all updated if you take the OTA.

1. It is normal for you to be able to flash the "radio" with S-on. It's available to every HTC ONE
2. OTA will update the Radio even though you have changed it, provided the OTA comes with an updated radio
Thanks for your answers.
So like I haven't got the good CID I can't flash the Firmware.zip ?

You just edit the android-info-txt inside the zip and add your CID.
So why firmware.zip is not included in the ROM?
If I want to update, I must have S-off? Is it going to format my SD card or all my applications?

ive pulled the factory RUU's from multiple threads , and i can't get them to install
i've been looking for a zip of the stock rom that i can try and flash on a unlocked bootloader so i can S-off , but i haven't found one i can get to boot
like i said , i tried this one
http://bionicgeeks.the-talk.net/t14-stock-rom-att-ics-de-odexed-zip-aligned-rooted-bloated

i relocked the bootloader and then i have been trying to run the RUU
no other steps need to be taken ?
i have been searching for a working RUU all day....... none of them will actually install the firmware.... any ideas from anyone on what i should do
maybe some personal help ? im willing to try anything at this point
OK slick.... First... Slow down...
You screwed yourself badly here by just running off the handle...
First... Where in the world is your phone now...
Bootloader status...
Recovery...
Last kernel you fastbooted...
And I swear to whatever you call holy... If you ask what fastboot is...
You can find a working RUU on goo.im

found a zip i was able to flash of the stock rom finally worked from hboot with a locked bootloader
now i can get to s-off
I don't know why you would have such a hard time finding the right RUU. It's still on HTC's website for God's sake.
Okay so here is probably a stupid question. I am trying to unroot my Sprint HTC One M8. I accidentally deleted the backup I had to my old OS so therefore I have been stuck. I tried looking in the backups thread but they didn't have the correct version. I tried using the version they had but it failed to update. However I found a stock odex rom for my current verison. I was wondering if I can just use this. Unroot flash stock recovery relock the booloader and be good to go and able to receive otas' etc. I am S-On btw. Will I need to be S-Off? Or can I remain S-On and will I be able to use this stock odex rom? Please help.
That will work. No need to S-off. Alternatively, you can also RUU to unroot your phone.
