Hi,
Is anybody else having issues with the multitiouch when crossing axis. See below videos from youtube. This looks more like a software issue that will affect all devices. You can test with a multitouch tester app
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gz27tAD1IBQ
Edit: Try the test with the tablet laying down on a flat surface and also try holding it on an angle and report results. It seems to be occuring alot when it is flat.
If this is anything like the Nexus One, this is a hardware limitation that can't be fixed. I can't believe that they would use such an inferior multi touch sensor at this time. Even my Galaxy Tab (the first ever Android tablet) has proper 10 point multi touch.
I ran this a day or so after I got mine and I had that issue but when I run it now it works fine.
Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk 2
just downloaded a multitouch tester app from the playstore and it works fine. I can hit up to 9 fingers before it starts getting weird and slightly jumping about.
I used to have the HTC desire which had the same problem as the Nexus One, that was annoying as hell, but this, so far, is great.
I am on Modaco Rom with a stock kernel.
Both of my Nexus 7s exhibit this same behavior when I use Multitouch Visible Test, but I have noticed no issues when playing games or doing anything else for that matter.
Non issue on my N7, rooted stock.

i don't have the device yet but after crossing axis, do the two touchpoints work as normal or do they flip i.e the bottom finger movement is causing the top touch circle to move and the top finger movement causing the bottom circle to move? this was an issue on older generation phones
That is my video. It does flip but flips right back . Its just very erratic. Shows extra touches, flips them and doesnt hold steady ( flashes)
edit
It also happens with more touches aswell. for example 8 then it wont read them at all to i lift them up when i cross axis

haha thanks for the video. Yeah i thought i would post it in here to see how many people have the issue. So when you say it flips and then flips right back, you mean that it eventually switches back to the correct touch points where it is able to detects your two fingers correctly right?
Works fine here in two different multiouch testers. I do get the 180 degree flips in Dead Trigger though so I'm thinking there's something up with the game itself as well.
Edit: It works fine so long as the N7 is held. Flat on its back on a surface and it glitches as shown in the video. Intriguing. Anyone want to do some follow up testing on this?

I get 180 flips on my Galaxy Nexus as well, so I'm guessing it's software!

As long as the axis aren't crossed it registers my touches correct
wsrider: Did you see my edited post about mine only occurring when flat on a surface? I'm curious if yours is erratic while held as well.
It depends on the angle you hold the Nexus7 it starts swapping and getting crazy in one position, but sometimes doesn't.
As zinfinion says, on flat surface it gets buggy for sure. Sometimes in other positions.
Can anyone with KANG CM10 put their nexus7 on flat surface and try to replicate the video?

confirmed only while flat. held on a angle it doesn't reproduce this
edit still happens while held angled but way way way less then laid flat.

I tried a euroskank cm10 kang it made no difference which rom I used also tried paulobrien's rom. same results
I just tested mine and it is doing this as well. I had noticed erratic behavior while playing dead trigger and occasionally the keyboard not picking up key presses. I don't know what to do, if I should try to get a replacement or wait for a firmware update.
So should we return it to Google(hardware problem) or will they fix it with an update?
Everyone please download https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.batterypoweredgames.mtvistest and test
i have edited the OP to explain the flat surface scenario
I've tried to do it, but i couldn't replicate the issue.
Everyone having this issue please check your HW Version by booting into fastboot and checking. I have this issue and have HW Version ER3.
Is anyone having issue for the auto brightness?
The screen brightness adjust automatically, but is too dim in a dark environment.
Wanna know if anyone have this issue? Or my Z3+ have problem with the sensor.
Does it get bright enough under direct sunlight? If so, the sensor is probably good. Now in my case, it does get quite dim in a completely dark room. It's a good thing. I wish it could get dimmer!
You could also run a service test on the 'ambient light sensor' by dialing #*#*SERVICE*#*#. In a fully dark room, mine reads 0 as it should.

Yes. Bright enough under direct sunlight, and 'ambient light sensor' also reads 0 in a dark room now (not fully dark, with PC monitor screen on).
I think mine is too sensitive at the dark environment. I was on the street around sunset yesterday, and the screen go very dim.
I will test the 'ambient light sensor' tomorrow around sunset time again.
Did you remove the screen plastic. Sounds silly but I didn't for a few days. I didn't realize it was there and i can now reduce my brightness level a lot which will also help with battery.
There are 2 covers one you remove and one that stays, I think

That's good to know. I thought the second one (factory screen protector) might come off with the Sony logo like it did on Xperia Z
http://www.xperiablog.net/2013/03/2...-the-xperia-z-screen-protector-sony-logo-too/
Btw, did you try to slide up the 'Brightness Level' under display setting even though the 'Adaptive brightness' is on? It should set the minimum brightness level higher. It's more like semi-auto brightness on the recent Android version. So try it out when it feels dim to you next time in order to find a suitable 'brightness level'

Seems it is a cheap crappy one.
BTW FYR I only removed the upper one.
The upper one with texture should be removed the second might as well be left in place until it gets scratched, its pretty okay and does the work. As for the back I taped on the texture one until I get a back protector. Kinda silly to not include one from Sony's side

Rate this thread to express how well you can see the HTC 10's display outdoors. In case you've been playing Minecraft for 18 months straight, you might not known how to get outside anymore. Well, find the door and walk through it. A higher rating indicates that it has very high maximum brightness and thus fantastic outdoor visibility in direct sunlight.
Then, drop a comment if you have anything to add!
Perfectly fine in 12258 lux of sunlight.

Seems reasonable, not as bright as an S7 but it's not an AMOLED.
The screen is most definitely very very bright in bright sunlight on "auto" setting with slider to the max. I have no issues with the brightness outdoors. Make sure to keep the "auto" setting, there is a brightness boost built in with "auto". Also, do not use Power Saver feature (I am not taking about the Extreme Power Saver mode). The Power Saver will ruin the brightness in sunlight completely and thoroughly.
Compared the 10 with my Samsung S6 at noon in direct sunlight in Tucson, AZ on June 06. Couldn't see either for ****e.

Mine auto brightness is also huge step back comparing to previous One's. It is too bright in the evening or at night if my slider in auto mode is at about 75%.

Personally, I think max brightness on this phone isn't nearly bright enough. When I stop off at the Starbucks drive through in the morning and attempt to pay with my phone (pops a barcode on screen for the barista to scan) they always need to take my phone from me inside where it's a bit darker to scan. I have never had this issue with any other device, and never see any of the cars ahead of me having a similar issue. This is with auto brightness on and the slider all the way at max.
Remember that when you go outside, the sun is bright, you slip on your polarized sun glasses. Next time you look at the screen, it's dark.
Remember the screen is polarized as well, and not in the best orientation. Turn the phone horizontal, see if brighter again.
-Just saying this in case it is affecting some of the 'too dark' comments.-

Yeah, I can relate. From all the recent phones I've tested, the 10 fares the worst in direct sunlight / bright day environment... Even so, the only time I find it really annoying is when I try to take photos or shoot video. I always feel that the screen is too dark or that the photos I take are too dark. When I look at them back home, on a large PC screen, I see that the photos are ok, well-lit...

Yeah the polarization was a completely gooned up oversight in manufacture of the lcd. Could have done it 90 Deg off.

Then you can't take pictures with sunglasses on and you can't use the gps while driving with the SGs on. It goes both ways in terms of preferable polarization orientation.

Compared to the Nexus 6P the HTC display is visible with no issues on direct sunlight. It is definitely not perfect, but I really like it.
I don't know how it took me this long to realize this but when just zooming in a normal camera application the cameras never switches from the wide angle to the telephoto lens.... Obviously it happens when you use live focus mode but it never switches if you're not in that mode. So whenever i tap on that "x2" button its just giving me another digital zoom, just as with any of the previous phones before the Note 8. I guess its not a huge deal but I feel lied to. You can check for yourself, just cover the telephoto lens (the one on the left) and zoom in. I'm not sure if this is the case with the iPhones as well but i just thought this was a little weird. They bragged about actual 2x optical zoom but you can only use it when its this specialized portrait mode where focusing can be a pain...
I feel like Samsung just wanted to copy the iPhone feel with that zoom button.
Had anyone else noticed this? I feel like I'm the first one to mention this.
Are you already covering the lense before you Zoom? If so, that's why. The camera knows that it's covered, so it uses Digital on the Main. Also, the lighting condition needs to be optimal for the Telephoto lense. At least that what I heard around the Internet. :silly:

Open the camera.
Cover each camera until it picture doesn't appear.
Switch to 2X then do the same.
You will see it uses the two different camera. If you have it covered BEFORE the switch the software seems to adjust because the lens is covered like above mentions.

guess the cheezy zoom is a copy alright. same 'issues' or limitations as the iphone7s. the reviews of the iPhone 8's camera are not giving any real details apart that it's very good which is not helpfull and are prolly chit reviews payed by the company since their whole line of new old phones are a flop.

They are covering BEFORE they switch. The camera sees the lens is blocked and uses the same lens because the other is blocked.
Try it yourself
Camera 1 - inside lens (next to flash)
Camera 2 - Outside lens
Open camera
Cover Camera 1
Uncover camera 1
Switch to Camera 2
Cover camera 1
Then cover camera 2
You will see it works how it should. The software is smart enough if the camera two is not available it will digitally zoom using the first.
As far as covering camera 1 and it not switching to Camera 2 as camera 2 was never intended to be the main shooter so the software doesn't compensate.

When you say Switch to camera 2, you mean move your finger from blocking camera 1 to 2? It seems like no matter what I do the camera will only do 2x zoom in the inside camera near the flash? I'm lost.
Sent from my Galaxy Note8 using XDA Labs
It will also not switch to 2nd camera in low light, presumably because zoom lens is 2.7 and main cam is 1.7, letting in more than double the amount of light. Personally I hate automation (I can make better choices that suit me better) and would prefer full manual lens choice much better, but I see where is Samsung coming from: most user don't know much about photography, just care about end results, so lets camera decide which is best for given condition. We could probably fix this, if we had root.

Anyways I did the experiment too and the 2nd camera is definitely working in 2x zoom mode. I can even see the switch happening back and forth if I cover/uncover the camera.
Yeah coming from note 5... It's underwhelming to say the least.
It's weird I'm with T-Mobile... And a switch isn't happening for me except with live focus. With all zooms on regular mode it's always the camera closest to the heart sensor that displays the image ... And I've switched uncovered in a well lit area and even closed the app and tried. I can do anything to make it use the telephoto lens except live focus.

What I meant by not displaying (which I now see where your confusion was) was that the inner camera was the one supplying the image on both 1x and 2x.. the outer wasn't even turning on at all to display an image (obstructed or otherwise).

If I cover it with my fingers from time to time I can move faster than the software and you can see it switch from outer to inner digital zoom. My note 7 always worked when I was wearing my prescription sunglasses but not at all with my note 8. whats up with this?
Doesn't work with my regular glasses either...I think it's due to the coatings, anti-glare, computer, etc...its a bummer.
I think there's a software glitch or something. I rescanned my irisis and it was unlocking fine with my regular glasses on... But as soon as I turned on the setting where you don't have to swipe the screen for it to scan your eyes well it quit detecting my eyes with glasses on.
Mine works fine through seeing glasses, contacts, polarized shades.
Try setting your iris unlock up in the dark.

Glare is actually what prevents it from working with glasses. Anti-glare would essentially be a better situation over not having it

Turn lights off, get another phone with a camera, start camera, point camera at top of Note 8, see if there is a blue (infra-red light) from the top of the phone. Look through the other phones screen obviously.
