[Q] Love the new Galaxy Note 3 - AT&T Galaxy Note 3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I purchased the Galaxy Note 3 on the 3rd. Called every day for a week to the AT&T store that is roughly 1 hour from my house (90 minutes from my jobsite). I confirmed with them via the phone, that I could purchase the phone flat out, cash in hand with no problems. Just walk in, cash, phone, I walk out. Just to be 110% sure I talked to the AT&T website live chat, and told them that this ATT store told me i could buy it flat out with cash. Again, they said it would be no problem.
I called at 1330 (ups truck shows up between 1200 and 1500hrs) and they had it in, I asked the lady if they still had the White version, she laughed and said yes. I beat cheeks to my truck, and headed over to the ATT store. I walked in, told them I was the one calling. The gentleman knew what i was referencing to, and went and grabbed the phone. Asked me if I wanted a case and screen protector (i did) and proceeded to install the screen protector and case. Then asked for my Cell Number. I gave it to them, but heres the thing, I am with Straight Talk (walmart) and I only wanted the phone. Here they start telling me that I have to sign up for a new subscription that was going to cost me at least 70 smackaroos 50 for plan 20 data. I tried to remain calm, and told her that is not what was agreed upon on the phone. Then she took a few employees to the back, talked a bit, then came back out and told me in hushed tone, that they arent supposed to sell that phone outright, only with new plans, and new agreements, but would sell it to me since i called all week and was told the wrong information and drove all that way to get the phone on a work day (missing work). They said from now on, with new releases, I can only outright buy a phone from best buy, or walmart style retailers, not official ATT vendors. I nodded my head, in compliance.
So when the guy asked how to activate it, i grabbed it from him, threw my ST card in, and my SD card, and booted her up, she activated like a champ. Changed the MVNO and the MMSC settings so I could enable DATA and MMC SMSes after they did their verification call, and I was gone like the wind.
So far I LOVE LOVE LOVE the new phone. Been playing with it since the 3rd. The battery life is great, played with the HTC One blinkfeed and kinda liked the idea of flipping news when im bored, so the SGN3's magazine is a welcome (and unobtrusive) way to do exactly what I wanted. The new pen is nifty, and solves my "now which way does it go back in again?" dillema i would have in the dark. The dimensions are so similar that i could actually put the phone in my older SGN2 case and it fit (albeit a little akwardly on edges). Decided to go with the Incipio Folio case in white, and the "washable" screen protector that released along side the SGN3. I love the screen protector, does not distract from image quality like some of my other ones, and also has been far more scratch resistant. Also the pen touch feel is good, not dragging or slowing it down in any way. Almost fell the tactile slip of the grid as well, not sure how thats happening.
So how are you loving your new SGN3? Have you had any vendors tell you they couldn't sell a device outright?

I am overwhelmed by its functionality. I would really like to be able to utilize more of its functions, especially pen based ones. Still learning I think by the time I kinda sorta master it the Note 4 will be out LOL

I'm enjoying, while I didn't buy it outright. I'm still having fun learning this device.

My Nexus 7 story

So since there are several of these threads:

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1811765
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1784633
I decided I should share my story. So here it goes...
I got lucky and sold my Kindle Fire for the same price I bought it for and decided to take the plunge on the Nexus 7 despite all the negative comments here. Every store and online site seemed out of stock for days. Then I caught wind that I could order it in the store at Staples. So I went to my local Staples on the July, 17th and placed the order. The staff was friendly and helpful in the ordering process. Then, 3 days later, it arrived at my door. Free shipping to boot (the invoice said shipping was $9.99 but then there was a $9.99 credit).
I opened the box and my heart sank. "Google...how could you ship a unit with no charge?" I thought. Okay, so I plugged it in and waited for what seemed like weeks for the 2-3 hours to pass to get a full charge. I unplugged it and turned it on. Then, the inevitable happened... The screen came on!
I looked at the dark background with the green robot and the Next prompt. Nervously, I tapped the screen...and then it happened!!! It....responded to the touch! I worked my way through the prompts. However, when I tried to connect to my wireless network it...worked.
Looking at the edge of the screen on all four sides I noticed it...I noticed it right away...there was no light bleed or separation.
This can't be happening I thought...and then I picked it up and held it in my trembling hands knowing that finally...finally...there was the last shoe dropping. When I gripped the edges of the tablet, sure enough...it didn't creak or make any noises.
Knowing full well that the end is never the end, I logged into the play store. Within 30 seconds came the *ding* showing I had new mail in my GMail account. Sweat on my brow, hands trembling, I tapped on the GMail icon. "Your $25.00 Google Play balance is ready to use." was the title of the e-mail.
My heart sank...I felt cheated in my experience. Everyone else had so much excitement...so much drama...and I had...nothing. Just a fully functional, working tablet without a single technical or operational flaw. I hate Google for making this such a positive experience for me while making so many others go through countless issues.
As I reflect on this, I think I need to start a petition on Change.org and possibly bring a law suit against Google for giving me such a dramatically different experience than everyone else on the planet. *******s...
lol that sucks dude, I feel for you. I had the same exact experience as you so I feel your pain.
FYI just so you know Staples offers free shipping to purchases over 100 dollars or some amount near that. At least that's what it said when I attempted to order it through the Staples website.
You do realize you have jinxed yourself by posting this.
The next post we see from you will be:
"Help! My dog ate my Nexus 7, and all I can find is a bit of the silver bezel. What do I do now??".
Grats on your successful receipt on what is unquestionably the best $250 tablet going!
Wait till you Brick It !

A Canadians woeful tail of failed N4 Repair

To start off, YES, this is a rant thread about LG and its outsourced repair center, Stellar Wireless in Fort Texas.
I dropped my phone and the glass broke. Here is my older thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2126134
Spoke with 10 different reps at LG USA to confirm i could send my N4 for repair to their facility. Apparently, I can, as long as I have a return address in the States. Sweet deal! Cost $153 for repairs vs. $250 from Canada supplier in Mississauga (All Tech-Neek Electronic).
So i prepare my package, pay the fee of $25 for having it shipped via UPS (bad mistake). Everything is going well, phone shipped off on February 1. It ends up reaching the facility but gets rejected! Why? because at the boarder for Canada/US customs there is a "Customs Delivery Charge" aka COD fees on any products being imported in the States. Well, i wasn't aware of this. The repair center rejects the package, I am on the phone for 2 hours that same day, being transferred to 4 departments and given 5 different numbers to call, eventually i get to the right number. Pay my COD fee of $35 off. Sweet, so now i can ship it and my headaches are over right? I wish that were true, UPS sends it off a 2nd time. It gets rejected cause there is the "COD Sticker" on the package.
Essentially, if that sticker is on the package, the repair center doesnt check to see fees have been paid. I get on the phone with UPS AGAIN, speak to 5 different departments and get them to say to the repair center that the "COD is paid." If you have followed this thread this far and are aware with UPS, I'm on my final and 3rd strike! SO needless to say, 3rd time worked and it got delivered! Yeah!:good: Butt....
So i'm sitting at home, waiting for the email/phone call to repair my phone. I receive it on Feb 19, total cost: $153. Sweet deal! Fill out the information and send it via fax to the LG wireless facility. Now according to that repair form, They have 5 business days to process the payment and get my phone fixed. BUT guess what? My phone mysteriously leaves the repair center on Feb 21, which is 2 business days after i sent the payment. Now did they receive it ? I don't know. I called that same day to ask about the fax, and no one was able to help me. So i called FEb 21, asking about my phone and they said it was repaired and sent off. Cool story right? But my visa never received a payment. Now i call today, and find out my phone was NOT repaired and it was sent out. Why? Once again, NO ONE KNOWS.
Needless to say, calling LG 10 times, UPS 15 times, and being transferred to different departments and ALMOST getting my phone fixed....in the end, im at square one again. Its en route to my friends house and I am sending it back to the states forking out the $250 and getting it repaired locally. /Rant. Frusturated beyond belief at LG Wireless, Stellar Wireless (Repair center) and UPS (not informing of COD fees, even the store i shipped it from didn't know about that).
Just needed to rant and share a terrible customer service tale about trying to get the N4 repaired. Canadians, keep your phones in Canada and pay the extra money to know it will be done correctly and properly the FIRST time in your home country. I am applaud and frustrated with this situation.
Appalled*
At that point I would of said f it and bought another one and “said such is life". sorry to hear about your ordeal.
Wow, that sucks.
I hope you have some cold beers in the 'fridge because i would be drinking a few. Hang in there buddy.
Update: thanks to those who read. Apparently the LG staff are either retarded or poorly trained. An executive supervisor just informed me that my payment was received and the phone is actually "fully repaired and visa has been charged." Now i dont know whether to believe it or not, but she sounded confident, Only time will tell, should have my phone back in 2 weeks. Will let everyone know how this repair service turned out.
Well that sucks... but doesn't LG have a repair center in Canada? I called the Play Store to get an RMA for a faulty battery and they sent me a UPS shipping label to a repair center in Fort Worth Texas so I called again and told them I was calling from Canada and the issued a new shipping label to an LG repair center in North York, Ontario.

Good Phone/Poor Glass
I bought this phone about 3 weeks ago and LOVE it! Everything about it is awesome, except one thing...the glass front and back. It says that this glass is gorilla glass. I am thinking after 3 weeks that it's the cheapest "gorilla" glass they could put on the phone. I say this because I dropped the phone from 2 feet off the ground directly on it face (with a case on it) and the front glass shattered rendering the entire phone completely useless. I've done some research online and found that several hundreds of other Nexus 4 owners have experienced the similar things. I read one review where someone was at their home computer working while their N4 was just sitting on their desk like it had many time before. The user said it say in one spot for about an hour or so and he hear glass crack. Looked all around their apartment and couldn't figure out where it came from. Then they looked at the back of their new N4 and the back had cracked in two spots. As much as I love this phone I have to say I am very, very disappointed with LG and Google for this phone. with ins thru T-Mobile USA I have to pay $130 for a replacement, once it comes in I will be selling it and buying a Samsung GS3. My wife wanted this phone also and we almost got it last Friday, but held off for whatever reason. She is now also going to buy a Samsung GS3.
tail?
tale?
That sucks, seriously.

Sorry Gorilla glass is not shatter proof. Only scratch resistant. I love how you blame the phone instead of your self.

Anybody Else Buy Their HTC One at Best Buy?

I am extremely happy I got the phone yesterday after pre-ordering on the 5th, but Best Buy really left a sour taste in my mouth. First off, they did not recognize my entry in their "Phone Freedom" program which offered a $50 gift card if you bought a phone through them within the year. The stupid thing is, they said that they couldn't find my email address in the system, yet I only started getting emails about their specials after I signed up for that promotion. That made me pretty unhappy. I even signed up twice for the promotion a few days apart since I thought it was so strange that I didn't get a confirmation email the first time. After I didn't get it the second time, I just assumed that they weren't sending out confirmations (Strange, but I didn't think it just wouldn't work twice in a row).
The next thing was that it is plastered all over the walls in the mobile section of their store that they price match and have a low-price guarantee; yet they only price match phones that are purchased off contract. That might be common place on this forum with phone fanatics, but out in the real world (in the US at least) most phones are purchased with a contract. Saying that they price match "any deal" and then ruling out 90%(Edit: I guess I was a little optimistic, 66%) of phone purchases doesn't really seem like fair advertising to me.
Has anyone else purchased their One at Best Buy? Did you get your gift card if you signed up for the Phone Freedom program? The cashier said that it was a very common problem, and that it only really worked if you went in store to sign up, and that the online entry didn't really work.
I love the phone. I can not believe how much better it feels compared to my aging E4GT, but I wish I had a better purchasing experience.
When I signed up online for the "phone freedom", I did get a confirmation email and I made sure to save it. When I upgraded my phone last year, I also made sure to take a hard copy of the email with me just in case. Good thing too because their system was down and the only way they were willing to give me that discount was if I could show them the confirmation email (which I did). After that, the manager adjusted the price by $50. When I upgrade to the HTC One (as soon as the black version is available), I am definitely going to be sure to take a copy of the new confirmation email I got from BB when I signed up again earlier this year.
The price match policy actually really just depends on particular stores and what policies they know and abide by.
Best Buy's policy most recently changed on 3/3/2013 to exclude contract mobile from price matches. However some stores will still recognize and offer price matches to brick and mortar stores for contract phones, which was their old policy. Unfortunately, I was unable to find a brick and mortar store that had a price less than $199.99 when I went to my local BB.

yes i got mine no issue pre ordered the 6th i love the phone
I did the pre order there and I also got my confirmation for the $50 gift card from the freedom program, Also I did my research where to order the phone and I knew they changed the price match policies to be able to match online retailers but excludes on contract cell phones. I guess they did because amazon prices their smartphones dirty cheap after a few months(With a new line).
I know its a little off topic but does anyone know if Best Buy's Black Tie program is any good? I'm pretty sure they tried to make you buy it if you bought the phone. When I bought my iPhone they made it seem that I could destroy the thing and get a new one free of charge for only $10 a month. I'm thinking of getting insurance for my One when I get it because I don't want to get a case and hide its premium feel. I heard it doesn't hold up against scratches and drops too well :c?

I brought their insurance for my daughter's Note II back in november and I got it for my One, is cheaper if you buy the 2 years in advance $169 vs $240($10 * 24 months) + taxes. So far the only claim I have done is for the Note's charger, my daughter somehow pulled the plastic tubing that covers the charging cable close to the USB plug, We went to best buy and they order me an new whole charger( charger box+ cable) and they let me keep the charger box. I read the fine print and it covers damage accessories(included with phone) for 1 time replacement. The only thing that doesn't cover is if the phone is lost or stolen with $0 deductible.
Also if you decide to get the black tie insurance as a bonus, when is time to upgrade to a new phone they have trade-in plus, They will give you 100% the value of your phone at the time of trade-in plus a $50 gift card.
I do indeed have best buys insurance and am very happy with it. I got it with my Galaxy S2 and a month after I got the phone I dropped it on concrete and cracked the screen all up.
I went to best buy and told them what happened. They said they had to send it off and offered me a temp rental phone to hold me over ($50 charge that they refund when you return it undamaged). I took the rental and like a week later I went back and they said the damage to the casing was too bad (it was scraped up on the side badly) and it was unrepairable so they gave me a new phone.
I gave them back the rental, got my $50 back, and went home with a new phone. Very good experience, and so far it was my only claim.

They screwed me out of mine also because they claimed I used the wrong area code when I registered. I *****ed but to know avail, I'm going to call corporate on Monday.
Even if by some chance I did , they should honor it. I love the phone also.
To the other posters I bought my insurance for $90 from SquareTrade. It typically costs about about $40 more but I get coupons all the time for being a customer. It covers all defects and drops and spills.
Only have a $100 deductible but that's ok.

The did not find my freedom $50 either. They called someone and they emailed me a $50 giftcard. The put the free zagg on (fo free) as we waited. (I'm ready to take it off, as it sucks IMO) then she tried to sell me on a case. I already had a cruzerlite with me. She left the case on the counter. She put my phone and zagg case in on top of it. As she bagged everything she grabbed the case too. It took over an hour to get it all set up but I got the phone and some freebies.

Bought two from Best Buy had great experience. Only thing was they were unaware of free screensaver's and had to go back.
Posted this Friday.
First at Sprint Store this morning I purchased 3 accessories and got half price (they looked at me weird because I didn't have phones yet). Then at Best Buy I traded one of my htc evo LTE got a hundred dollars for it, the other goes to my daughter. Plus I am sending two htc EVO Design's back for a hundred dollars a piece from the preregister I did with HTC. Also was able to do buy out through Sprint at $150 which is half the price they originally wanted so I upgraded both lines, instead of just one and paying outright price for other. Then to top it all off Best Buy gave me two extra gift cards $50 each to price match Radio Shack preorder (play store gift cards) even though they weren't supposed to!

I went to Best Buy on Friday to pre-order both the HTC One and a GS4 (not knowing the One came out that day). The pre order process was easy going and the lady that helped my wife and I was very pleasant. We left an about an hour later got a call that the HTC One had arrived and was ready for us to pick it up. I went back to pick it up and after waiting about 10 mins for the other customers to finish was given great service in my opinion. There were no issues with anything and didnt even have an issue with the e-mail promo some of you did. I also got a Zagg HD screen protector and Pt Case for it and love them both. Also very excited to use the warranty on the Zagg. I also did switch over to the Best Buy insurance since I had to replace my GS3 through insurance not to long ago due to a crack and wasn't to happy about the 150 deductible. I have heard good things about Best Buy's insurance so I hope if I use it, it goes well.
So overall my experience was good and will be going back to Best Buy to buy my phone from now on. Also excited to see what i get for the HTC One in two years since they will give me %100 of the worth plus $50. Sorry to hear about some of yours bad luck but hope all goes well again when I pick up my GS4 this Friday.
Best buy freaking sucks man. I bought a Zagg and then paid for them to install it. 6 tries later and all seems well. Until I get to the car and realize theres 5 spots because of the fuzzies rubbing off of the cleaning cloth. Oh. Its 7pm and we're closing sir. Please come back tomorrow. Not to mention 3 of the 6 Zaggs they used, they tried to charge me for.

[Q] Your experience with Walmart service plan

So I was just wondering what kind of experiences people have had with walmart service plan on there nexus 7's.
My son broke the screen on mine and they were real quick about getting me a shipping label and saying repairs would take no time, The day they got my tablet they said they repaired it and sent it back, But when i got it back the grey bezel piece was cracked from when they pried open the back, the screen was sticking out so far that i could pull it out with my finger nail and the touch screen did not work and to top it all off there was a piece of paper in there with some ones initials saying they had checked the functionality and made sure every thing worked LOL . so now i am waiting on another shipping label. Maybe the second time is the charm? has any one else used the warranty from walmart on their nexus 7's? if so how was your experience?
Where did they send it? sounds like some sort of dodgy 3rd party company that has botched a repair big time without even testing it or anything
I'd demand some sort of refund/compensation
Life time service center in Ontario ca, I think i complained enough that i get a refund might have to go buy 2 used ones lol
The only time i used the service plan was for water damage on a Straight Talk phone. They just sent me a store credit card though.

Vodafone UK Scam

Well, kind of...
My s9+ died on Christmas eve (gutted), so in boxing day I took myself to the Vodafone store and got myself a nice shiny new S10+... or do i thought.
First they bought out a new phone sealed in the box. Scanned it through and told me it was already reserved for someone else. No problem, they had "plenty in stock".
This tone he bought out an unsealed Vodafone box. Very defensively, without ne asking, he declared, "don't worry, this box is because some official Samsung boxes get damaged in transit. We move the contents to this box, so it's still the full brand new product". I'm fine with this and sounds ok.
I luckily opened the box to put my sim and sd in to it. I find that the earphones are missing... odd. I then inspect there phone and find there is a huge gap down the side of the screen and the metal, with glue showing... this is clearly NOT a new phone.
I point this out to the guy and he initially said he had processed it, so I'd have to make a claim. Then I pointed out that I have a 2 week cooling off period, and also, if they want ne to leave the side without causing a fuss, they had better get me my proper new phone.
Luckily they did just that. Opened it up and it was a totally different story. Phone had the screen protector on it, all items in there. It was then clear that phones in the Vodafone boxes must be damaged returns and NOT brand new phones transferred to other boxes.
Just a heads up to anyone else who might fall for this trap. If they bring out your ne phone in anything other than a perfectly sealed Samsung box, don't accept it!

maybe wanna rename the title of the thread as it seems to imply that Vodafone themselves are behind this scam vs an individual retailer
That's the individual retailer doing that

You think is just that one store?
I guess it's possible. Then again, my wife took out a new contract with Vodafone late last year. She saw the phone she wanted in store and stated several times that's the one she wants, to remarks of, "good choice" etc.
She took out the contract being led to believe the phone was included. Once all the signatures where completed we sat there waiting for the phone. The agent then told us, it doesn't include the phone and they don't have any in stock, so we'd would have to purchase the phone individually else where.
Although we had the cooling off period, we had already processed the number transfer with the agent there, so it would be messy to back out.
It seems they are all a little underhand everywhere! This was a different store in a city 2 hours away from where I had my experience.
My girlfriend took SIM contract from vodafone. And before she sign contract asked how about network coverage. Agent said it is perfect 4G speed is aprox 40Mb/s. So next day she put sim in phone to try. Ok sim card is activated. But coverage is ****, network speed is crap. Fastest what she got 0.78Mb/s download and upload 0.12Mb/s. To use Whatsapp for calls most been impossible. Ok she lived one week with that sim. Contacted vodafone and CS said we have network issue in your area etc. Nothing changed. After all she went to vodafone store to cancel and that was mess. In store guy spend more than one hour with CS / about 8 times transfered to different department, third CS service cancelled contract and wasn't able to give PAC code to keep number and finally story doesn't ends here. Vodafone for less the 7 days charge her £15. Ofcorse after two month of fighting vodafone refunded £11 from £15. Now she is with EE and no prob at all.

To be fair, thay just sounds like bad luck with an outage in the area, but I do agree, most suppliers ate difficult to cancel with.

Sales involving contracts are a nightmare for retailers to handle returns on, mainly because of obstacles in the way because the seller doesnt have much interest in taking customers out of the contract. The vendor blames the service provider and vice versa. In situations like these, its 99.99999999% likely that the retailer had a rash of returns or maybe even bought a damaged freight shipment on purpose to maximize profits and are having to cover their butts when issues are brought up. Sketchy retail practices to say the absolute least, but still not likely Vodafones doing
