[Q] Deleted LG Email by mistake and can't restore  - LG Optimus 4X HD

Hello all,
My LG O4X running the stock 4.1.2 version (20A-ESA-XXX).
I decided to perform a total wipe because it was unbearably slow and the the battery lasted no more than half a day.
I backed it with ROM manager and with Titanium Backup.
After the wipe I restored most of the applications and some of the system (Accounts, Call logs, SMS, WiFi, Bluetooth Pairing etc.).
All is working fine except that the stock Email client (Email 4.2.121) disappeared.
I restored it using Titanium Backup. It worked only after I wiped the Email data. I configured all my email accounts (Gmail, exchange).
All worked fine - I received emails on all accounts, calender updated my exchange appointments.
All was great until I rebooted the phone. After reboot Email client disappeared with exchange account.
I tried to do it again couple of times, but after each reboot it disappeared.
What can I do??????
Does anyone knows how to solve it?
Thanks for your help.
Uri.

1.
restore. since u are on a stock rom u should use lg software for backup not titanium. also i dont understand this wipe thing. if u wipe cache and data u dont lose any app. so what u did was not wipe , but a factory reset. but if u do a factory reset , all the stock apps are there.
2.
u could use some other software to clean up everything on the phone.
3.
now thats too late u can restore the stock apps if u had a backup to any lg software, or use the lg support center to fix them. there is an option u choose, that th update didnt go well. i dont remember exactly its name. u will see it there. then automatically will download the latest 4.1.2 and fix u every issue.

Thank you for your quick reply .
Some clarifications :
1. You are correct - I did a factory reset.
2. I used Titanium Backup because I can perform restore\backup on the go without the need to be connected to computer.
3. I don't know why Email was deleted, may be I deleted it by mistake with Titanium Backup.
What do you mean by 'restore'? From Rom manager? Titanium Backup?
I will try your advise to use LG PC suite.
Can you tell me if the version of EMail (4.2.121) is correct?
Thanks.

since u dont lose the apps u dont need titanium. titanium is when u install other custom rom. u can use a cloud backup which will work better for this case
the version of mail doesnt matter, this mail is crap. its even better if u keep it deleted. it uses imap and also it push question to the server to check if there is any mail, depending ur settings. this means that it drains battery when it does and also u dont get instantly the mail. the classic gmail or any other more everyday life mail app is better. they dont keep "asking" if there is any mail, instead when u have a new mail, the mail is automatically pushed to ur phone. this means u get the mail this instant that they send it to u.
now if u really want this mail crap app, yea the lg pc suite will help. if u install it and still dont find how to launch the support center, say it and ill try upload u a couple of photos to guide u.

Any way to wifi/bluetooth tether w/o ROOT??

So I really would like to tether my G1 phone. I need the tethering done by either wifi or bluetooth (not USB).
Are there any options to do this without rooting?
If not, I guess I'll consider rooting...I just didn't want to have lose all my personal data (messages, bookmarks, etc.). I think that my contacts would be the only thing saved because they are kept on gmail account...so they'd synch on the newly rooted phone?
Thanks in advance for any help!!

PDA net is the only tehter software that doesn't require root (unless I missed something) but that's USB only. So yes, you'll have to root for tethering over WiFi or bluetooth.
The one click method doesn't require you to wipe, although it is recommended, so if you flash a Cyanogen or JF build all your data should remain in tact.
So, my suggestion is use the one click method to flash Cyanogen's recovery image and from there install Cyanogen's 4.04 ROM without wiping (it's very stable). In theory that should keep all your data. If the phone boot loops after you've flashed Cyanogen's ROM, then just wipe and reflash. That means you would loose your data, but you would have root for tethering.

Rooting is very easy and quick now i believe theres a link in my signiture to my own guide which is very specific but just stop before you partion your sd card
Thanks for the info so far. Maybe I'll just root my phone then. So before I root, what are all the disadvantages??? Here are the ones I've seen so far...
1. Could lose all your personal data (although this should be minimized if you backup most of your stuff first using a backup app from the marketplace first)??
2. T-Mobile MyFaves app doesn't work.
3. The built in Instant Messaging app doesn't work for MSN, AIM, etc. (Is there an IM app out there that works as well as the default one? So it keeps you signed in all the time?...I need a good IM app that works all the time and keeps you signed in...)
Anything else??
1. Use my backup pro(not free, idk any free ones, sorry) from market to backup/restore all apps/bookmarks/sms/call log/etc
2. MyFaves app works now.
3. I have no idea, since I use Meebo instead.
Just remember that you can't backup stuff like texts and bookmarks before rooting, as backup apps require root
Ah...interesting.
So when you root...there isn't really anyway to go back to just how you were before trying to root?? I'm guessing you need root first in order to use a full backup utility like nandroid backup or something?
All in all...I need to root, just trying to figure out for sure what I'm getting into before the jump.

Does it? Does it come stock with cyanogenmod 4.0.1 or 4.0.4? Or do you have to install it after the fact? Any links that talks about how to do this?

Does it work pretty well for you? Does it keep you signed in all the time? Even when your phone goes idle? Do you like it as good as the default Android IM app?
You can use most backup programs without rooting.

You can install it (use "appsinstaller" from market) to install the .apk.

I don't use the default IM app because I don't have unlimited texting. I like meebo, though sometimes it signs out, it has an auto sign-in option. It works for me. YMMV
It looks like MyBackup from the Market doesn't require root and has a 30 day free trial

Backup software

Hi All,
Is there a software which can backup all my phone data (apps/ sms/contacts etc.) before I factory reset my phone and then I could restore the phone with the same data/ settings?
Please help.
Thanks
titanium backup for apps & data. but you must root your phone. contacts already syncing with your gmail account.
i don't know about sms backup. i assume there will be tons of applications on android market
If you have go sms app you can easily back up your messages.
Titanium back up is the best for your app+data.cheers

Phone's Contacts(APP) problem

Hello, anyone else having the same problem as me and please help offer solutions.
My Contacts APPs keep FC most of the time when a call comes in. When this happens, usually I will not see the caller ID (only the number is displayed, not the names in my contact list). Sometimes the phone just hang and reboot and I believe the Contact is messing up the phone. Call logs will not show until the Contact apps run again after a few mins.
I saw post somewhere that this happens when contact list gets big and I follow the instruction to completely clear my contacts and restore them. But this does not help.
Phone is not having problem when I was in GB rom (2.3.5 and 2.3.6) and problem exist after upgrade to ICS. I tried 2 different ICS rom from different region (4.0.3), the same happens. Recently upgraded to 4.04. Problem remains.
I even downgrade back to GB. Clear cache, factory reset. Restore to ICS 4.0.4. I use Titanium to restore all apps and phone data. Problems still there.
I reflash the above again, this time only restore the apps and not phone data. This doesn't help.
Am at a lost what to do now? Everything runs fine except the Contact.
Download an alternative app for contacts
There are plenty of apps on google play

This is more of a workaround than a fix...
I've had this issue with contacts and then usually dialler gets problems. How are you adding your contacts, from a Google account? If so, try clearing the data and cache on both the contacts app and contacts storage app, then re sync your contacts, let me know if it helps.

Hi, Thanks for the reply. I've tried your suggestions before but problem still exist. I'm using Samsung contact to do a backup/restore. I've tried before GO's contact and Superbackup. None solve the problem.
Currently, I just tried this method below to disable the Sync contact settings. Let's see if this will work.
http://jjpda.blogspot.sg/2012/07/android-404-contacts-force-close.html
There might be some permission error. If you are rooted then try extracting the contacts.apk, contacts.odex files from Stock ROM package and push it into system app folder. it might help. for a safer side you can also copy Phone.apk files along.

If you have your contacts backed up with Google you don't need to use Titanium Backup or any other system, just log in to your Google account and then go to Sync Settings and trigger a synchronization, that will restore all your contacts automatically. Contacts-Sync works across all versions of Android.
cm9 has with good reason in first post dont restore with titanium
Tip always read first post and thread.
Best way is to revert to prior rom, restore, then synch with google and check if its all there, then go to cm9 and synch back. But be safe doing it.
I guess titanium can restore apps safely but data no, no gaurantee it will run perfectly. which is why in first thread it says no.
even between stock versions I run into issues, so I dont do it. When on one version, it shouldnt be an issue, backing up and restoring.

HELP! Lost all Contacts, Market, Apps, Astro file manager...

Hey everyone,
yesterday I was trying to upgrade my Android to Froyo. I did all the steps, everything was going great and when I had to restore (the final step) after I booted the phone everything looked just like when I bought it. The main differance though, was that all my contacts, messages, the Android Market, Astro File Manager and many other apps were GONE! So far I have managed to restore some of my messages, I've been trying to import/export my contacts, but still no sign of them . The most interesting thing is that when I connect my phone to the PC, I can still see all my pictures, music, apps. Can this be solved?
Oh and I forgot to mention that this appears a lot "The process com.google.process.gapps has stopped unexpectedly..." I read how to fix it, but I can't since I cannot access my file manager
Please if you have any idea, let me know. Thanks in advance
Hi are you from stock ROM and you upgraded to froyo of which ROM?
I hope you backup first before the upgrade and I hope you did some clean installation.
Let us know specifically your problem.
I noticed that you are new, please take sometime reading the rules and introducing yourself to everyone Topics are in General Section
Didn't u backup before?
Well yeah, that's normal. Every upgrade requires a full wipe which means that all your data will be erased. Didn't you read the warnings?

For contacts you can restore from your google account if you have synced with google..

Yes, as I said I did all the required steps for upgrade (including the backup), but I guess that wasn't successful, even though I was certain I did it right. Anyway, I was trying to upgrade from 2.1 to Froyo.
Yup, I'm new. Thanks for your advice
