I know the Bionic is supposed to have 16gb total storage. I ran AntTek Explorer out of curiosity, I browsed to Device and clicked on Properties. It was still scanning how many files and folders there are but when I stopped it, it was at 17.25gb. Is this possible or is the Explorer wrong? I don't have an sd card in either. Here's a screen shot.

I believe that's scanning all partitions, not just data and internal-SD storage. I'm not sure about how big each partition is, but I know webtop is about 1~1.5 GB. Plus some others, so you'd read a bit over 16 GB.
If you don't use a lapdock or HDMI cable, you may be able to format that webtop partition and mount it as another user storage.

Thanks for the knowledge. I had no idea there were other partitions like that. Good to know.
No problem. Grab a root browser and look around some time. If you're rooted, you can poke around pretty much any where.
Using a simple terminal emulator, you could read the fstab and mtab to look a bit closer to all the partitions on your system.
Sent from my DROID BIONIC using Tapatalk 2
What I don't get is that it's only showing 2.95 total space for internal storage with 2.38 available and 8gb total space internal storage with 3.85 available.
I think you miss-typed, you've contradicted yourself. Also, are you reading from that app, or from the system menu.
I'd recommend the app "disk usage" in the market to read storages and all the data size inside.
Sent from my DROID BIONIC using Tapatalk 2
I'm just going by what it says under settings, storage. I dunno, another screenshot.
Ah, you're not on stock ROM I see.
The ROM you've got loaded is bugged, the first "internal storage" is supposed to be "app storage".
You're app storage partition is listed as 3GB because you most likely have a ROM slot of that size, and that's what you're currently booted into.
Guess I should have asked those questions up front, my apologies. Or, noticed from the first SS.
Sent from my DROID BIONIC using Tapatalk 2
no need to apologize. is there any way to expand that partition so it's using the full 8gb instead of just 3? I don't have anything in the stock slot and I have PAC in slot 1. I'm only using PAC.
It's possible to install it to your stock ROM slot, though I personally don't advise it, as it defeats the purpose of safe-strap.
Are you really needing the app storage space that badly? Is apps-to-sd not a viable option?
Sent from my DROID BIONIC using Tapatalk 2
I tried before to install it to the stock slot and it just hung at a black screen. I will try it again though. I would just like to have and use all real estate that's available.
Sorry, it's not something I've played with my self. I have read about others installing ROMs to stock slot, but I've also read about complications.
Someone else may be able to shed more light. You may be able to find out more on some other posts around on doing that.

This is kind of a follow up to my original post. I am back to the stock JB rom. I formatted and deleted slot 1 and uninstalled safestrap. It's still not showing the correct storage space. I don't know what I'm doing wrong to get the full 16gb. Total space it's showing as 16gb with 515mb being used by apps and 3.24gb as available. Internal storage is good with 7.71gb showing as available. I just can't figure out where that missing 5gb is.
Can you post a screen shot?
Also, this app is handy when figuring these things out. I've been using it for 3 years

I could be wrong about this, but I don't think the bionic ever had 8GB available as app storage, it's been about 4GB for me.
You're thinking that you have 2 x 8GB partitions, one for app, one for the fake sdcard.
I think it's split 3 ways, 4GB system/other, 4GB app storage, 8GB SD.
But I'm not entirely sure about that and never cared to notice before. I'll look into this and reply if I find anything.

64gb card
Thank you for your post, I bought the sandisk 64gb card, formated it to fat32 and it works perfectly [in fact its a bit zippier than my previously full 32 gb card which i believe was class 4]. The card was a bit pricey, but well worth it. Thanks again.
i just bought one of these and it works fine in cwm, but is not detected in android, ive tried stock 2.3.4 and leaked ics, neither wants to know of the cards existence.
Solved:, poor formatting on my part.

When I purchased a 64GB Micro SD Card for my phone just before Christmas, it wouldn't work at all - Even when formatted to FAT32.
Its now used in an SD card adapter for my girlfriends Nintendo 3DS... So there's no chance I'm getting that back.
Can you provide the model of the card you purchased? I've got two 32GB cards for my Play currently, Both have exactly the same apps cloned between them but different caches for different games - So I have to swap over every time i want to play a game on the other card lol. xD (Most of the are ROMs mind you...)
Buying know thanks for the tip.
Fat32 can be formatted up to 2tb. That is its maximum

OK... I just got this card and transferred all the data from my 32GB micoSD to the new 64GB microSDXC... and the weird thing is that it is taking up more space on the SDXC than the SD... so I'm guessing that the problem is that it isn't formatted to FAT32... so how do I do that? Using Win7Pro, I don't see an option to format it to FAT32... any ideas?
I formatted this card with the phone but it is also possible to format it with a computer using third party format tools.
And the problem with the data which takes more space from your 64GB card than it took from your 32GB card could be related to the clustersize. Maybe the system chose a bigger size in order to have less effort to deal with the size of the card. However if there are files which are below this clustersize they are always as big as the clustersize. So the data needs more space.
Thanks for the tip I really gotta try this 64gb would practically hold my life lol

My phone has an annoying glitch where I move or delete files on the SD card, and the SD card shows that there's new space after deletion, but when I try to put in a new file, there's no space!
Every couple of months I have to transfer the files I wanna keep to my PC, then format the card to get the lost capacity back. I first noticed it when I tried putting some anime episodes on the card when it showed 2GB free, but then it said the card was full!
The aforementioned glitch only happens when I delete/move files through Android or when the storage is mounted to USB. Never happens when the card is plugged into Windows and being manipulated directly through an adapter instead of the phone.
If you guys transfer a lot of stuff on those cards, I'd suggest getting one of these
I have a red one and it's super handy when you wanna transfer, format etc. Plus it's got a keychain so if you have school, you can keep it on hand.
By using that instead I've avoided the storage issues.

It's good to hear it! Is there any lag when using micro sd, doing something about micro sd? Playing games, looking for files, watching movies, listening music etc.
Such a hassle that you need to root your device first before you can do a workaround to install or move apps into the external micro sd.
awesome! I'm going to get my hands on one. still stuck with a 32GB SDHC atm, music and video files have never been larger
Also with app directory Bind can move the data you want on external sd in order to have more internal memory, very useful when you have installed several games thd occupying a lot of memory.

Not everything, only the apps installed on the old SD card. But is should work if you copy the contents of the old card to the new one. Or use a backup solution to restore apps on the new card (like Titanium).

i have the sandisk 64 gb bought for 46 euro
Someone asked about benchmarks with AnTuTu so here they are. I also used SD Tools and CrystalDiskMark (This gave approximately 20MB/s Read and 9MB/s Write sorry forgot to take screenshot). Each gave a very different result. I formatted the card FAT32 using fat32format (since it will not read exFat). Expected a little better speed as my 32GB Class 10 AData card produces better results (almost double the write speed). Haven't really noticed any lag and haven't had a chance to check battery usage. The extra space is good as I was filling up the 32gb card.
Is it just me or does it take a very long time to scan the media (both on card and on internal memory) at startup?

Yes funeral, even if sd isn't partitioned, the swap file writes to the sd card, which has a limited number of writes. Swappiness at 100 takes a big toll on sd card life

Well, what to say?! Not everything got better in newer versions, unfortunately. Google implemented a lot restrictions with regards to external SDcards.
However, I can't seem to spot any really consuming Apps in your Screenshot, except maybe the Games. Possibly helpful to post a shot of settings -> memory to sort it out.

Any app can write to its own folder on the SD card. Without root, no app except system apps can write to the whole SD card for security reasons. This will be changed with Android L (introduction of a new permission).

That's not what I meant, I use solid explorer but can't actually modify anything on the card just read. As the guy below you said only system apps can transfer stuff or it has to go into the android folder.
@OP:
I'm 90% sure you don't need a lot of those apps. Try and see if you really need **** and uninstall it if the launch count is below a certain threshold (back in Gingerbread, I set mine to once per month and I ended up uninstalling almost half my apps). Or try finding a lighter app that does the same thing.
Only once in my entire life was I able to fill up a 16GB device with apps only (on a 16GB Nexus 7), and even those were just games (of 100MB+ in size).
My point -- 16GB is more than enough for the majority of users, there is no reason for a developer to waste time doing edits to please the minority you are part of.
Also your OP is ridiculous. And the post isn't in the correct Forum subsection.
You're German ffs, show that! :ID
Just saw this thread and had to reply, because it seems like good news for everybody who owns an sd card
http://www.techradar.com/news/phone...5-0-shows-google-still-loves-sd-cards-1271803
According to this google is loosening the sd card restrictions on the new android, at least as it regards storage of third party apps on the sd card.
Just wanted to share this to spread the hopefully true news, maybe an app2sd will also be implemented.
As I said three posts before
This thread absolutely does not belong in the Original Development subforum.
You could root and get xposed running which could fix your problem.
Trow away navigator, it's rubbish. Can use sygic and put the roadmaps on the sd. Saved me 4gb internal memory.
Anyone else notice that right out of the box you only have 23GB of usable storage on the 32GB variant?
I know that you'll never get the full storage amount due to the ROM taking up space. However, on both my Nexus 4 and Nexus 5, with 16GB total space, I had at least 12GB available right out of the box. So I'm used to having ~4GB of unusable space. But 9GB of space taken right off the bat for a pure Android device with no bloatware does not seem right to me.
Anyone know why this might be?

Starting from lollipop, the phone uses art run time. Art takes up more space in the internal storage, it's one of the tradeoffs when compared to dalvik.
And no you can't change back to dalvik on lollipop.
Sent from my Nexus 6 using Tapatalk
Good to know. Thanks!
I guess this is just one more reason many should opt for the 64GB.
Now that I'm on a computer, I can elaborate my point in more detail,
Android 4.4 KitKat, at least on the Nexus 5, includes a new runtime call “Android runtime”, ART. Though it’s not a very creative name, it is pretty creative in what it does. Unlike JIT, which must compile every app whenever it’s loaded, ART works on a concept called ahead-of-time (AOT) compilation. With ART, when you download and install an app it automatically pre-compiles. This takes up more space on your device and takes longer to initially install when compared to Dalvik. However, apps launch quicker and are arguably faster when run using ART rather than Dalvik. What’s more, since less time is required to run apps, your processor doesn’t get worked as hard and your battery life may benefit as a result.

Do note that the above is from Kit Kat's ART which can be different from Lollipop's ART (improved and more finalized)
This isn't much difference to the 32gb Nexus 5 which has 26gb.

For this phone, only AT&T gets carrier apps pre-loaded. To be honest, a lot of the Google Applications are bloatware.
Bloatware examples are: Fit, Earth, Books, Movies, Google+, etc.

I agree with you, but to the OP's issue, he may regain some of his space by removing them, it's been said that you can remove those said carrier apps. As to the others, they may be removable, or one may need root if they are loaded just in /system. Thing is the OP hasn't stated if he got a GP or moto phone, or one from a carrier to begin with.
Initially I was disappointed with the seemingly low space, but you have to keep in mind that a good chunk of that 32GB is lost to formatting (I'd estimate around 10%-15%). The rest is used by the operating system. So 24GB of free space is very plausible on a 32GB device.

Correct I was posting that as a comparison seeing that mine has about the same amount of space taken up.
