If I wanted to RUU back to stock to clear storage, do I have to go back to S-on? I know I'd have to relock the bootloader

S-off is the best scenario to RUU!

So I can leave S-off and relock the bootloader. Then RUU the stock Rom , relock the bootloader and reflash a 4.3 Rom and I should then have more storage.

S-off, relock bl, check again & confirm usb debugging is set(most 4get to confirm usb debugging), RUU, take 1.31 ota update, dev unlock bl, flash firmware.zip. flash 4.3 rom. Always check after relocking & unlocking bl-as well as after taking update, that usb debugging is checked. I always turn off & turn right back on to insure i have no device connection issued. Extra step, but it has saved me some headaches

I also have a true S-OFF IncS (via XTC clip), but with HBOOT 2.0x, I still had to relock the bootloader if I wanted to run an official RUU despite having S-OFF. S-OFF did allow me to flash any RUU without the need for a goldcard, but if I didn't relock the bootloader, the RUU would throw a 155 error, so I am speaking from personal experience.

An S-Off phone is an open phone. Allows you to write, change and access the root to your phone, as well as installing custom ROM´s..

S-On also allows this, however neither the radio nor kernel can be flashed in CWM, therefore usually the boot.img has to be flashed separately via fastboot after a ROM flash. Some roms manage to flash this automatically at first boot however. The HTC One is currently S-On only.
So if you're rooted it's scoff is that right

I don't think so. From how I understand it, you can be rooted and still be either s-on OR s-off. The difference is that s-off allows you to flash radios and kernels directly through recovery whereas if you're s-on, you have to flash them through fastboot, as the last guy to reply stated.
Sent via my HTC One using XDA Premium
At the moment, the only form of root is unlocked s-on. So if you decide to go that route, you're gonna be flashing the boot.img after you flash a rom and no firmware updates (radio)
I believe the dev version has s-off

From what I've read is S-Off is base security off completely and bootloader unlock isnt needed. Im just leaving my bootloader unlocked in case.
Hi
greetings,
unlock bootloader gives access to partial system files
where as S-OFF which means security off will give you full system access
if your s-off and locked bootloader then you can not use fastboot\abd commands. for that you need a unlocked bootloader.
but you being S-OFF you can directly flash a patched hboot which will give access to bootloader option ( do not know if its available right now)
so you will have to unlock your hboot or flash a patched hboot.
you need fastboot\abd commands to flash recovery and that needs unlocked bootloader.
I don't believe that's true. You have to use fastboot to unlock the bootloader and I used fastboot getvar all while locked.
I just wanna know if I can flash a Rom with locked bootloader and s-off.

I have a HTC butterfly and I already did that we now have s off and we can change our relocked to locked on our bootloader. Once ur s off u can use custom recovery and root and also flash roms when bootloader is locked I did it couple times jus make sure u have cwm or twrp as the recovery. But for ur phone I don't think so because we don't use fastboot oem lock command no more we use a flashable zip to lock
Sent from my HTC Butterfly using xda premium
Yes you can flash a ROM with S-OFF and locked but you can't flash a custom recovery whilst locked unless you have a ZIP you can flash via fastboot (like it used to be with the Sensation/Desire). Leaving it unlocked doesn't actually matter as if you ever need to send it back to HTC you can reload the stock ROM and lock it again before doing so. Everyone wins
Thank you for the answer.

Hi, I own a singapore HTC butterfly S which was initially bootloader unlocked and rooted only.
I installed MaximusHD 11 few months back WITHOUT S OFF sucessfully and used it till few days back with no issue.
So MaximusHD 12 was out and I downloaded it via phone.
Without reading the main thread, I installed it with CWM 6.0.3.6 and got into bootloop at the HTC logo.
So I Reinstalled MaximusHD 11 and ended up having no baseband or radio at all despite redownloading and reinstalling it.
Tried to read all the threads related and tried S-OFF-ing with Rumrunner 0.5.0 and it runs perfectly and states that it's S OFF,
BUT when i go into Hboot1.54, its still S ON. I tried Revone S OFF, Firewater S OFF, both didn't work.
Had tried ALL the custom roms in the development page and non of it manage to pass the HTC Boot screen except for MaximusHD 10,11 and Skydragon, which eventually end up with a phone with no radio/baseband.
Tried reverting to stock rom listed by koniiiik and other user. Stuck too.
Had absolutely no Idea what I can do now. Would appreciate some help for this issue.

Checked the file name and nothing is wrong. And also I do not have S-OFF so i guess I can't flash it either~

Try flashing it by copying the file to your external SD and rebooting into bootloader. Also, when using fastboot, what command are you executing exactly?

I had tried putting it as P068IMG and PO68IMG both showed me wrong zipped image error. so I redownloaded the same firmware and extract them out and rezipping it back, rename it as PO68IMG and it was flashed but nothing happened after reboot. Renamed the firmware as P068IMG and it doesn't read at all in bootloader. I'm still on MaximusHD 11.

Flashed stock rom provided by koniiik , stuck at boot loop. Wipe, reinstall, still the same boot loop. Is it normal that there's a bootloop?
It boot looped for 15mins and still bootlooping.
** I got the exact problem as the guy in the link below. can't flash the OTA at all, I can't even transfer the file to my SD card or internal storage. Even if I had it in my external SD, it also still shows wrong zipped image.

tried this, also tried relock and lock. When I try unlock it gives error same as relock.
But when I try to type in lock the return message is already locked.
tried flashing 2 europe RUU's in the RUU Bootloader screen (silver HTC Screen) and it keep saying error at signature verification.
Tried the unlock token route again but I get a message from HTCdev thas at the token is an invalid amount
There are adb commands you can use to unlock and lock the bootloader when you are s off. Maybe if you try using one of the temp root options. There are some guides on this site

Right so I have tried previous mentioned possible routes without any luck.
Here is my information

I cannot S-OFF, TRIED RUMRUNNER, FIREWATER and a few other methods but i am totally stuck here. adb and fastboot commands work until signature verification then it fails.

No matter what I try RUU or adb/fastboot commands Im getting signature verification failure each time, the strange thing is I know I'm missing something but cannot put my finger on it to make it right, its one of those silly basic things.
