[Q] 64GB MicroSD support: how is it so far? - AT&T Galaxy Note 3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I'm still using the Note 2 with a Patriot Signature 64GB MicroSD Class 10 card. I have this current issue with the card that many Note 2 user have with their 64GB card. The issue can be that the card can suddenly seem faulty to the Note 2 or need to be manually unmounted and remounted.
I've been lucky so far. The card still functions on my PC, but the Note 2 refuses to play my music for example on the card. It can play few seconds than it changes track to the next file to either immediately change to another track or play few seconds of music.
I've read that many Note 2 user had such issues with their 64GB card and many got their 64GB card damaged in the process. Some users even damaged several 64GB cards in a row. None of these users had issues with 32GB cards or smaller.
So, is the 64GB card support still flaky on the Note 3 or is it safe to switch from the Note 2 to the Note 3?

No problems whatsoever..

Working fine here. I had a N2 and had the card crash once. I think I formatted the card to FAT32 and it's been fine since.

Haven been burned by the 32GB version of this Sandisk card (high failure rates), no more. Moved on to Samsung branded cards and been happier for it. This card could be one dollar and i wouldn't get it.
Great price. My 64gb sandisk has been good to me. Ive had it almost a year and still going strong.

That's just your bad luck with a faulty product.
SanDisk is in this business when Samsung was gathering information on how to make a mobile phone, so no thanks.

From everything I have read, I think the 32GB cards are the only ones that have failed the most. I think it the ones made prior to a date of 12/2012.

I just had another 32gb SanDisk fail yesterday evening. It had been getting the "sd card suddenly removed" warning, this time in my Note 10.1. That makes 3 in the past year. One failed in my old GS3 & the other in my current N2.
When the one in my N2 failed, I switched to a 64gb Samsung c10. No problems since Feb.
"Meh"..... I have a 32GB Sandisk on my S4 and I get intermittent hiccups from listening to MP3s and movies installed on the Micro SD but no unmounting errors yet. I'm thinking of jumping ship to Patriot or Transcend MicroSD on my next purchase.
My 64GB works really good and acts as the onboard storage.
My 64GB has been working since Feb.
32GB Adata works since last year
32GB Adata works since earlier this year
32GB Transcend no issues at all since last year.
All of which has no issues since I bought them.

[Q] What SD card you use? ZR destroys cards

Hey everyone. I started my ZR with an older (don't remember the brand) 8G class 6 memory card. All was fine for 2 weeks.
Then I bought a Kingstone 16G class 10. After 2 days, error message "SD Card unexpectedly removed". The card was dead, no computer could read it anymore.
I went back to the store and changed my card. Another Kingstone 16G class 10. After exactly 2 days, the same error. Card is completely dead. I cannot go back to the store, because they checked the second one and it was working fine.
I am sure the phone somehow destroys the cards. But the first one I used seems to be fine.
My question is: What memory cards do you use? Should I try a card with a different brand, a different capacity or a different class?
Thanks!

I'm now also using SanDisk 32GB UHS-I. Speed is very good and stable. I have 2 dead Kingston SD already so I would avoid them.
64GB MicroSDHC Class 10
64GB MicroSDHC Class 10
I did have a SD has been removed failure once but that i think i restarted and it was ok.
Using a SanDisk Mobile Ultra MicroSD Card 64GB Class 10 UHS 1 (not plugging SanDisk or anything. I just copy pasted from the email confirmation after I ordered it). Been over a month and no issues so far.
I think Kingston has issues. Bought a 16 gb one from them and it packed up in a week. My dealer replaced it and cautioned me never to buy them as though cheap, they're prone to failure. I then bought a SanDisk and have been using them ever since

I use a Samsung 32GB Class 10.
It's great, fast and didn't cost that much at the time. I think it cost me € 31,- at the time.
That was 1,5 years back or so and now there are really cheap.:highfive:
Big capacity and high speed, so you can watch series/movies on your ZR!
I use a Transcend 32GB class 4 and it's working fine without any problems.

What sdcard are you using now?
Previously I said my Sandisk 32GB class 10 card is fine. But after upgrading to 4.2.2, I was having similar issue as yours. First there was "SD Card removed unexpectedly" message appear. Today my card is not recognized by the phone anymore. Though it's still working fine in PC and other phone.
Similar issues have been reported by users of other Xperia phones as well. Some Xperia L users said the problem is fixed after upgrading their firmware which was released a few days ago.
im using samsung 32gb class 10 with no issues so far.
http://www.samsung.com/in/consumer/memory-storage/memory-cards/micro-sdhc-plus/MB-MPBGC/CN
and im on 4.2.2
So it looks like it's a problem of class 10? Hmmm. I wish I knew the exact problem before I buy another one.

Using Sandisk 16gb class 10 Ultra HC - 0 problems,fast and stable
Last night I switched to my old Kingston 32GB class 10 because my Sandisk 32GB UHS-I can no longer be recognized by the phone, thought it still works fine in my PC and old phone. So far zero "unexpected removal" has been detected. Interestingly, I bought this Sandisk sdcard a few months back because the Kingston was not working properly in my previous phone (HTC Incredible S).
So this post starts to make sense. Maybe class 10 cards doesn't play well with smartphones after all.
I have a SANDISK Ultra microSDHC Card UHS-I, Class 10, 32GB for Android.
So far I have no problems with it, so I don't know if it's the same SD like you were using @itandy.
I have the same one too man but no problems here I've even been flashing back and forth between firmwares testing out different regions. If you still have the warranty you should try get a replacement.

I doubt it's the problem of my Sandisk card since it's working great in PC and in my old phone. In fact, when I first saw this post my reaction is the same. It must be your sdcard. But now I'm not so sure. I'm very surprised when I Googled about the issue and found many people are having similar issue with different Xperia phones. Specifically the latest Xperia L firmware fixed issue with class 10 sdcard too.

I have been looking for a 64g SD card for my samsung tab 3 7". After reading many reviews on amazon I have discoverd a few things you might want to consider.
1. Anything over 32 gig is a whole different world for sd cards an compatibility especially for Samsung tab 3's
2. I don't know about other brands but sandisk seems to have formatting problems with android. They sell several different 64gig cards and some come with a warning that reformatting in the mobile device will leave the card unusable.
2. There are a lot of counterfeit 64gig cards out there and even though people are complaining about it, Amazon continues to sell them. Read the reviews carefully.
3. I don't know if the tab3 can utilize the class 10 cards that claim 30 mb per second.
I just started looking into getting a 64gig card for my tab 3 and my information is still incomplete as to what to get. All I can suggest is read, read read... There are some shifty deals out there.
I hope someone that has more knowledge about this subject will chime in as I am somewhat confused about the best card to go with.
Copy that. Thank you very much or the input, I was also just reading about the counterfeit cards that Amazon is selling in the reviews for some cards and elsewhere. I'm not sure why or how they would continue to sell them knowing that they are fake! I am seriously thinking about just going with one of the nicer Samsung cards and be done with it.

I'm using one on my tab 3 right now, it's only 8gb though but. But the read speed is 24~30mb , write speed is 10~12 mb/s.

Cool, Good info. Thanks
Just to update its been 2 weeks now and the cards are doing great. I read the reviews before I bought and they said the transcend was very compatible with devices and since samsung is so picky I liked hearing that. Also a lifetime warranty is great too. Proof of purchase is necessary but since I purchased thru amazon I always have a record.

I'm using a Kingston 64gb class 10 just after 3 months of usage it got corrupt, all my files weren't working but the card can be read when you put it in, formatted it a lot on the tab and on the laptop with the card reader. I'm a noob and didn't do research cause the card was given to me from my girlfriend, at a stand still now trying to find the right tool to fix my SD card and no luck so far

External microSD card not working

Anyone know what types of microSD cards should work for the S5? I have a Sandisk Ultra 32GB microSD card and it worked and displayed the pictures on it for about 3 minutes before saying it was removed. Re-seating it doesn't even bring it up anymore.

That should work. I'm using a larger card from the same line. Mine is the SanDisk Ultra 64 GB microSDXC Class 10 UHS-1 it works in the S5 and it worked in the S4.
I used a cheap 32gb class 10 store branded SD from microcenter. It works fine.

Your card might also be at the end of it's life. These things have a finite number of read/writes before they start to deteriorate. How old is the card? If it is new, then you just have a defective one and should try taking it back.
Have you tried formatting microSD from device?
Sent from my SGH-I747M using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
The card is about two years old. I formatted it on my S3 and copied a bunch of pictures/music/movies over from my computer to it while the phone was plugged in via USB. Now trying to use the same card in my S5 and its been wonky
Used different sd cards and had same issue. Did some research a few days ago b/c was having same issue. . It was reported that S5 had locked write access from other application when intentionally initiated. For example: You can take picture and it will copy to SD care but if you" Folder sync", it will give you error msg that permission is denied.

San Disk 64GB Micro SD Card Issues

I keep having this message: "SD Card unexpectedly removed... Preparing SD Card" when I unlock my Note 4 from sleep or standby mode. Anyone having same problem? What could be the causes?
I tried the CM12 Alpha ROM for a few days and I had absolutely no SD card issues.
Cm12 has a bunch of SD card issues that is why it is in alpha testing. Read the thread.

I have a SanDisk Ultra 32GB that I've had problems with on my GS3, and same issue on my Note 4. Same message you get. My card is actually a replacement card from SanDisk because the first card was doing the same thing. I've since threw in an old 8GB Transcend micro SD and I haven't seen the "unexpectedly removed" message since.
Sandisk has issues with all Samsung phones for some reason.. for me at least. Bought a samsung sd card and I have not had any issues so far.
My only issue with Samsung cards is they don't make a 128gb card. Wtf. Get with the times.
