I recently bought a Patriot 16GB Micro SDHC LX Class 10 card for my I9000 Galaxy S. The one problem I have had is that it does not recognize my card at all. I have done everything from FAT32 formatting to formatting as FAT32 without LBA. However, I do not believe that the microSD itself is faulty. My old Nokia E63 can read and write to this microSDHC perfectly well, even though the E63 officially only supports cards up to 8 GB. Windows can also read and write to the microSDHC card perfectly. Is there any known issues with Galaxy S and Class 10 cards? I thought Galaxy S can support any microSD card up to 32 GB. I have contacted Patriot to return the card but I'd rather get it working if possible. I am currently using an old 8 GB class 4 kingston microsdhc on the galaxy S and it works well. So, it seems that there is some incompatibility between the Galaxy S and specifically the Class 10 Patriot because they both work well independently.
1. Does anyone know why this happens?
2. I am now looking for another good microSD card, with at least 16GB. Is there any that is recommended and definitely known to work with Galaxy S?

HI
Just a comment about Patriot Warranty be very patient it took me 2 months and lots of *****ing to get a replacement
I don't think so. I have the same Patriot SDHC 10 class 16GB on my Galaxy SCL (i9003) and they work perfectly fine with each other, apart from 3 damaged images from the gallery so far. Anyway, they it does recognise the card.

You might be right, I filed a request last week and I am still waiting for them to contact me. Sad, because my Patriot USB Drive works great. Bad Customer service from Patriot.
I was initially wondering if it had something to do with the ROM I am using. I tried the card using Cyanogen 7.1.0-RC1 and now with Darky's EE 10.2 JVQ, but no luck. Plus, it doesn't make sense that the ROM would have something to do with this.

Hey everyone. I started my ZR with an older (don't remember the brand) 8G class 6 memory card. All was fine for 2 weeks.
Then I bought a Kingstone 16G class 10. After 2 days, error message "SD Card unexpectedly removed". The card was dead, no computer could read it anymore.
I went back to the store and changed my card. Another Kingstone 16G class 10. After exactly 2 days, the same error. Card is completely dead. I cannot go back to the store, because they checked the second one and it was working fine.
I am sure the phone somehow destroys the cards. But the first one I used seems to be fine.
My question is: What memory cards do you use? Should I try a card with a different brand, a different capacity or a different class?
Thanks!
SanDisk 32GB class 10 UHS. Haven't any problems with mine.

I'm now also using SanDisk 32GB UHS-I. Speed is very good and stable. I have 2 dead Kingston SD already so I would avoid them.
64GB MicroSDHC Class 10
64GB MicroSDHC Class 10
I did have a SD has been removed failure once but that i think i restarted and it was ok.
Using a SanDisk Mobile Ultra MicroSD Card 64GB Class 10 UHS 1 (not plugging SanDisk or anything. I just copy pasted from the email confirmation after I ordered it). Been over a month and no issues so far.
I think Kingston has issues. Bought a 16 gb one from them and it packed up in a week. My dealer replaced it and cautioned me never to buy them as though cheap, they're prone to failure. I then bought a SanDisk and have been using them ever since

I use a Samsung 32GB Class 10.
It's great, fast and didn't cost that much at the time. I think it cost me € 31,- at the time.
That was 1,5 years back or so and now there are really cheap.:highfive:
Big capacity and high speed, so you can watch series/movies on your ZR!
I use a Transcend 32GB class 4 and it's working fine without any problems.

What sdcard are you using now?
Previously I said my Sandisk 32GB class 10 card is fine. But after upgrading to 4.2.2, I was having similar issue as yours. First there was "SD Card removed unexpectedly" message appear. Today my card is not recognized by the phone anymore. Though it's still working fine in PC and other phone.
Similar issues have been reported by users of other Xperia phones as well. Some Xperia L users said the problem is fixed after upgrading their firmware which was released a few days ago.
im using samsung 32gb class 10 with no issues so far.
http://www.samsung.com/in/consumer/memory-storage/memory-cards/micro-sdhc-plus/MB-MPBGC/CN
and im on 4.2.2
So it looks like it's a problem of class 10? Hmmm. I wish I knew the exact problem before I buy another one.

Using Sandisk 16gb class 10 Ultra HC - 0 problems,fast and stable
Last night I switched to my old Kingston 32GB class 10 because my Sandisk 32GB UHS-I can no longer be recognized by the phone, thought it still works fine in my PC and old phone. So far zero "unexpected removal" has been detected. Interestingly, I bought this Sandisk sdcard a few months back because the Kingston was not working properly in my previous phone (HTC Incredible S).
So this post starts to make sense. Maybe class 10 cards doesn't play well with smartphones after all.
I have a SANDISK Ultra microSDHC Card UHS-I, Class 10, 32GB for Android.
So far I have no problems with it, so I don't know if it's the same SD like you were using @itandy.
I have the same one too man but no problems here I've even been flashing back and forth between firmwares testing out different regions. If you still have the warranty you should try get a replacement.

I doubt it's the problem of my Sandisk card since it's working great in PC and in my old phone. In fact, when I first saw this post my reaction is the same. It must be your sdcard. But now I'm not so sure. I'm very surprised when I Googled about the issue and found many people are having similar issue with different Xperia phones. Specifically the latest Xperia L firmware fixed issue with class 10 sdcard too.

Anyone know what types of microSD cards should work for the S5? I have a Sandisk Ultra 32GB microSD card and it worked and displayed the pictures on it for about 3 minutes before saying it was removed. Re-seating it doesn't even bring it up anymore.

That should work. I'm using a larger card from the same line. Mine is the SanDisk Ultra 64 GB microSDXC Class 10 UHS-1 it works in the S5 and it worked in the S4.
I used a cheap 32gb class 10 store branded SD from microcenter. It works fine.

Your card might also be at the end of it's life. These things have a finite number of read/writes before they start to deteriorate. How old is the card? If it is new, then you just have a defective one and should try taking it back.
Have you tried formatting microSD from device?
Sent from my SGH-I747M using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
The card is about two years old. I formatted it on my S3 and copied a bunch of pictures/music/movies over from my computer to it while the phone was plugged in via USB. Now trying to use the same card in my S5 and its been wonky
Used different sd cards and had same issue. Did some research a few days ago b/c was having same issue. . It was reported that S5 had locked write access from other application when intentionally initiated. For example: You can take picture and it will copy to SD care but if you" Folder sync", it will give you error msg that permission is denied.
I'm rooted and have the newest update.
I am using a Sandisk 32GB memory card that I used in my Note 3 for the last year with no issues.
Every once in while, the Note 4 shows that the Sandisk card was removed without being unmounted.. and then after 30-60 seconds, remounts itself. It has done this now 3x today. Once while laying on a table untouched and once while I was using the camera to take pictures. I checked and the card is totally seated properly.
One thing I did notice.. when I went to install the newest update with Kies, it told me to unmount the SD card... and I clicked unmount a few times, and it wouldn't unmount.. So I had to shut down the Note and take out the card while it was off.
Has this happened to anyone? Any ideas how to fix this?
Try cleaning the contacts on your card with a pencil eraser.
I've seen that on my old GS3, be very careful, few weeks later I started getting errors on SD card and then SD card no longer worked with complete loss of data. One card I was able to revive after full format, nothing could be done with the second one. I suspected either something wasn't connecting properly inside or some software issue, I also suspect that the card gets corrupted, when unmounting happens during write cycle and if phone updates headers or directory entries when this error happens, that's when you loose the whole card. I never had this happen on my Note3, hate to see this coming back on Note 4.

Argh.. that sounds horrible. I will do a full backup of my card tomorrow just in case (Titanium backup, SMS backup, etc). Thanks
Yeah I'm actually getting this too. It would just randomly unmount and remount when the card is being used. I thought ibfixed it by checking for errors but it came back lol. Hope a real fix is found soon.
Ps - was using a 64gb SanDisk on my note 2 for a year no problem.
More than likely, the SD card is going bad. You better backup asap!
These are precisely the signs of the card before it kicks the bucket. I've owned several SanDisk cards and never again will I go with them. As I've mentioned before on these forums SanDisk cards are very weak in its integrity and are no longer of decent quality. The problems you're facing is proof of that.
Go with a Samsung card. The Pro series. It's the best you're going to get. Lexar is good too, but pricey.
Most pro photographers will say SanDisk is the "yugo" of sd cards.

My only real question is, why it's happening right as I swap it to the new Note 4? I am very careful with my devices, and i did not even touch the gold connection part. Bummer
I had this problem until I formatted it using the note 4. So I'll wait and see.

Yup, just came back to report this. I was like f it, im just gonna format. After formatting, all issues are now gone. I will report back if it does return.
ps - i did do the test on it afterwards by taking like 30 pictures and browsing them in the gallery. Prior to the format, it would always unmount 100%. Now it browses with no issues.

Don't know if you guys checked out the SD card thread but we mentioned this . For me and some others Samsung devices don't play well with SanDisk cards. I burned through 3 of them on my note 2 with the same issues you guys have. Back up now! Because those cards will die soon. You can Google it Samsung and SanDisk card errors and you will find many many threads. This time around I learned and got a Samsung evo 64gb for about $39 on Amazon. Just a heads up.

I read the thread you mentioned, but this same Sandisk SD card worked perfectly fine in my old Note 2, so maybe it's a recent issue of the newer phones. that were released after Note 2. I got a Samsung Pro 64GB for about 10 dollar more on Amazon.

It's so weird they work for a while then die. All I know is I'm going to avoid SanDisk cards in Samsung phones at least.
rofl, so my co-worker had gotten a free 32 GB Samsung sd card from samsung with his new S5. I told him lets do a switch with my 64 GB Sandisk Class 10. We tested it to make sure it works fine on his phone and of-course it does. The samsung card is also quite a bit faster than the Sandisk I gave him. We both did a bench. Its a win win in my books lol.
I've had several micro sd cards faulter on me, resulting in unrecoverable data and every one of them were SanDisk. I'm staying away from SanDisk like the Ebola virus!
So I was loading my SD card up with music. About half way through the transfer stopped. At that time I was roughly 50% through the transfer . Up until that point I was getting write speeds of between 6mb-11mb/s . Then half way through the transfer seemed to stall out . After a min or two it resumed. After it resumed I was getting between 600-999KiB/s
Any idea what could cause this ?
Did you format the SD card in your pc, phone, or just pop it in and go?
From Dante's Inferno via XDA Premium HD
Given that you are having problems I would format it in a computer using exFAT format with quick format turned off so that the card is fully tested. There could be issues with the card itself and this would help identify that.
And then order the Samsung card...
Back up all our info . card is gonna take a **** soon.
BAD ASS NOTE 4
Backup whatever you have on that SanDisk and get a Samsung or another dependable brand. I've learned my lesson on 3 SanDisk cards that clunked on me, causing to me to lose unrecoverable data each time. I got a Samsung Evo.
Where did you get it from and how much did you pay? It could be a fake.
I'm using a SanDisk 64gb extreme ultra which to my mind is the only suitable card for the note 4. I'm getting write speeds of 44mb on average.
