Turn off shutter sound! - Samsung Galaxy Gear

steps:
mount -ro remount,rw /system
cd /system/media/audio/ui
mkdir old
mv Auto_focus.ogg .old/
mv Cam_Start.ogg .old/
mv Cam_Stop.ogg .old/
mv Shutter.ogg .old/
viola. although it doesnt remove the *tick* sound you hear when it does auto focus for some reason. maybe someone else can figure it out. shutter sound GONE

I think it's the usual inbuilt sounds. Hopefully I'll get some time to look at it tomorrow

What software are you using to do the edit?

What concerns me is WHY would one desire to do that? I can see in the non to distant future, where we are going to have security issues with the camera in the strap. Preventing the camera noise can only add to even more problems. Paranoia over cameras in Europe, particularly the UK, is ridiculous.
Even in this country it is illegal to take another persons photograph without their consent!
The potential for good devices to perform criminal actions is always going to be a balance. I can foresee the day when we read of some perp doing something illegal with this camera. Then knee jerk governments will make us all 'pay'.
Some common sense is needed here and the sound is there for a reason to alert others what the owner is doing.

Always hated the stupid sound on taking pictures. Thank you.

I 'm using it in my classes to take pictures of the whiteboards. I don't have to take such extensive notes of drawings and formulae anymore. So, I'm pretty happy about this development. THANK YOU!

It did not work for me. I copy and pasted the instructions and shutter still present. I also am using it for the work place during meetings while they are showing statistics, graphs, etc. Im not a great artist to replicate it. and phones are prohibited in most meetings.

that should be ./old/ on each line, sorry! try that

Another option would be to just rename the files (without using the mkdir line):
mv Shutter.ogg Shutter.ogg.old
Anyway, later tonight I should have some time to play with the files and hopefully have something working tomorrow
Now, if only we had custom recovery...

Are you talking about the UK or US?
In the US, permission is not required from the person if they're in a public space. However, if the photo is for commercial purposes (advertisement, promotional, etc) and the person is recognizable, then a signed model release form is required.
I just hate shutter sounds in general, I always turn it off on my phone as well.

if it illegal to take pics how does paparazzi get away with it

It always amazes me when people try to make this point whenever the issue of turning off the shutter sound on phones is brought up. This, when every single real camera on the market has the ability to take photos silently. If I strapped a normal camera to my hand, would it still be a pedophile terrorist's weapon of mass destruction?
Can someone name me a single item that hasn't at some time been used by a perp to do something illegal?
And all this moral panic about cameras but in the UK there's one surveillance camera for every 11 people.
But I do agree with you that some common sense is needed...

where can i turn off that final little beep when taking a pic? Thanks

Starwars power on sound clip for the Epic

I am releasing this Epic power on sound clip of Dark Vader and Dardlord under the following statement.
“Under the fair use doctrine of the U.S. copyright statute, it is permissible to use limited portions of a work including quotes, for purposes such as commentary, criticism, news reporting, and scholarly reports. There are no legal rules permitting the use of a specific number of words, a certain number of musical notes, or percentage of a work. Whether a particular use qualifies as fair use depends on all the circumstances.”
If anyone knows or feels that I am in violation of copyright laws, please advise and I will remove from it from the post. Otherwise, feel free to make a comment, criticize the work. I know that most of you are “scholarly” individuals and will gain benefit from this work. The two sound clips were obtained from multiple websites. They were run through a digital processor and volume is reduced by 35%. Hopefully, you will not be embarrassed if you happen to boot up your phone in a quiet room.
Dark Vader “What is thy bidding my master”
Dardlord “Welcome young Skywalker, I have been expecting you”
Glad to see some finally downloaded this, I was beginning to get worried that I was weird since I like it.

I don't know the max size, but I know that the clip needs to be under 30 secs. I tried to make one larger/longer and it didn't work. So I would say .5 mb's in size and no longer than 30 secs for my guess.

(MOD) FFC Development Clean Thread

8So everyone begged for it and here it is, a beggining to end revamp of the ffc mod thread.
Original threads:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=770854
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=804146
(note im doing this from my phone, so please let ne know of any typos, broken links, or missed topics)
This will be in Q&A form, so lets get started.
1) Where do I get an FFC?
Globaldirectparts.com sells them in bulk, shipping is slow, so now your best bet is ebay.
2) How do I install it?
Start here:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gOvt6atrin8&feature=youtube_gdata_player
Then here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=8436475&postcount=375
Video removed...
3) I got it installed, but how do I use it?
Most custom roms include support for the ffc. If yours does not there is a flashable zip here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=11172683&postcount=1482
4) My FFC is blurry... wtf?
You need to focus it, there is a small ring on the FFC, play with it until you find the sweetspot for you.
5) There are red lines in low light, is there a fix?
Currently no, there has been signifigant progress on lowering the amount, but its not perfect yet. Be patient its coming.
6) How do I videochat?
First you need an app called sgstools, get it here:
http://www.mediafire.com/?xtw16417su40j7b
Next go into the .prop editor and select build.prop. Press menu, and then unblock. Now for every field that reads "SGH-T959" change it to "GT-I9000". Hit menu then save, now reboot. You can now go to tye market and download apps such as fring and Tango!
7) In the chat app, my image is rotated 90degrees.
Its an app problem. Ask the person you are chatting with if they see you sideways, if they say yes, uninstall the app and try changing your build.prop to SPH-D700.
8)What if I have more questions?
Ask them here, I vow to keep this thread flame free. (although there will be sarcasm)
9)What is SGStools?
Its a program used to install the i9000 cam, change build.prop, anf even access hidden features of your phone such as gps test and network status. You can find the latest version here:
http://www.mediafire.com/?xtw16417su40j7b
Thanks to Sirrial, Kellylewis, Scrizz, Master, Eugene, hell everybody, we've been working on this for 4 mos. and we are the reason the Vibrant 4g exsits.
Update: There is an update to sgstools. After you install, reboot then open your market. When you look at your apps list you will see an update, dont click it you'll get an error. Instead, long press it and select update.
(I didnt do this to step on toes. There was a huge demand for this. If you want faster production I highly advise on donating to Kellylewis, he is trying to juglle this project along with life and service to.his country, correct me if i'm wrong there. Also I purposefully left out the test kernals posted before because they aren't a full fix and have produced errors with kb1 roms)

Alright, clean slate.
We need to search the old threads for the updates or latest 'news' of what has happened to this.
I'll take my part in searching certain post by KellyLewis on what progress he's done to this, along with other users.
Also, OP, we need an extra space for all the post that has attachments, you know how it is, everybody will start asking "where can i find that one attachment that fixes...etc." on this thread. We don't need that such.
I believe Siiral had a one stop shop for the attachments, and i think we can just link that up for that particular post?
What you think?

We have color lines at the moment like greens and blues, we got rid of the red and white so far. We get rid of one and create another.

Thank's
As I have stated before I'm a amateur photographer and I have learned that in low light situations it is very important to understand that banding will always be a major hurdle. Since this is a "Fixed" lens, and the camera has no flash, post processing of video/pictures will IMO go the furthest with lessening/eliminating banding. Have you guys been able to find what (software) the I9000 uses for this? Can the Image Stabilization software be tweaked? ISO be increased or shutter speed be sped up. I know I am asking/presenting more problems than solutions but I really think that these are the key.
There's a nice little camera apk that can be flashed on page 149 of the main thread that could go in the op.

this is very true, as i am filmmaker and have been working with film for many years. if, like you say, it is an ISO problem, which it seems to be, it is all software, and we need to figure out how to let more light in, or somehow bring up the contrast (which might also fix the problem).
we need more light to go into the lens
We do need more light in the lens I took a video outside in the daytime and there was almost no banding only indoors or artificial lighting is where the banding is bad

I'm on board as well, I did some work on grounding... succeeded in frying one camera, won't be so clumsy on the next.
I think it would help to incorporate some of the findings in one part of thread (op)
Then at least we can get rid of the redundancy and repetitive questions.
BTW my earlier Nikon DSLR's had banding issues as well in low light, so it is a common issue

really? i've been trying but no matter what i do it's still kind of obvious that something has been changed there when you look towards that corner
I have noticed that prior to displaying a photo with the gallery that there appears to be some processing of the picture. I am wondering if the I9000 does that prior to saving a picture to memory. Has anyone tried to import (hope that's the right term) that APK and seeing if it helps?
I returned my vibrant with this mod as well.. So far no extra fees other than shipping since I don't have insurance..
At first I used spray paint.. I spray painted a paper and collected enough paint to let ONE drop drip into the hole..and with a toothpick I spread it around.. But it wouldnt dry and once it did I missed a spot. It was a pain. But I think it works most effectively if done right.. When I returned it however, I just used the black nail polish mentioned before. It was soo obvious but it worked. Btw my camera had goo-gone IN it which made every picture blurry.. (why I returned it) plus my vibration didn't work so....

hey guys I have an issue with att telling me I am tethering when I am not. They are taking my unlimited data away. Anyway, I need someone to point me to a captivate from with working g call recording. No apps I try to seem to work. Fyi I am aware of the legality which is why I tell att I am recording them for the purpose of using
The call as evidence in court. Thanks for the help. I am tired of their crap and am going g to do something about it. Hopefully I can set some type of precedent lol.

In the main search box on this page, to the left of "find you device", just search "call recording on captivate" and you will find many choices.
Paragon has it. Its a froyo rom though.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=915698
Keep in mind this is illegal on some states.
Thanks gents. I'm working g twelve hours a day seven a week now so I don't have time to search through threads, wanted an updated one so I asked. Froyo is fine I only need it for a day or so. And its not illegal if I I form the other party, and in most states if it is over a line you own you are allowed to record anything you like.
Sent from my SGH-I897 using XDA App
Pretty much as long as you tell the person you are recording them, its legal. Also, I believe the "line you own thing", otherwise how are all these celebrity phone calls leaked w/o major lawsuits where the action of recording and not defamation or whatever was the base of the lawsuit. Then again, pretty much if you are rich (celebrities, politicians) you can get away with just about everything anyway!

The best way I found to do this is to use the Firefly ROM. It is a Froyo rom and is no longer supported, but still works flawlessly. There is a call recording zip that you can flash that will add call recording to the ROM natively. Take a look at the following links:

My Nexus 4 is an embarrassment

Apologies for the rant folks but I need to get this off my chest!
<rant>
Google needs to fix the Nexus 4 bugs fast
My state-of-the-art Nexus 4 phone has some major issues that aren't just frustrating - they're embarrassing. The camera will often stop working, especially when used in low light or after taking lots of pictures. I was out for a Christmas dinner with friends last night and we asked the waitress to take a picture of the group. I handed her my phone and ended up red-faced because the bloody camera wouldn't work. I also had the camera freeze with the flash still lit up on numerous occasions last night. How the hell did this get through testing? This isn't a one-off - it happens *every* time I try to take lots of pictures. I expect the camera to work.
Can you imagine the furore if the camera on an iPhone did this? People would be foaming at the mouth.
And the camera quality is pretty poor with many shots out of focus and terrible red-eye on others (with no red-eye reduction mode available) and none of the fancy new image filters can fix it. Yet I'm pretty sure ICS had a red-eye reduction filter.
And I also have a WiFi issue which means my connection speed will drop from 40MB to around 2MB for no reason. I have to toggle WiFi off/on to clear it. Rumour is that it's a problem with the WPA2 encryption used by some routers but I have yet to prove this myself and all our other devices are fine, my Nexus 7 included.
And this morning the phone rang and I couldn't answer the call because the buttons on the incoming call screen simply didn't work. It was charging at the time which I expect is the issue but even so...
In my humble opinion Google needs to get a 4.2.2 update out that addresses issues like this quickly because right now I am seriously considering selling this device and getting something else.
I am not your beta-tester Google. This just isn't good enough.
</rant>
I feel better now. Sorry if this thread sounds a little selfish but I expected so much more from a Nexus device. My 2011 Xperia arc S might of been a bit laggy but at least it was 100% reliable.
Well then return it.. or maybe learn how to use it first.
Personally I don't have any of these issues.
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda app-developers app
I no issues with my camera from Christmas dinner last night either, from 3 to 8:30pm EST I was snapping away.
No wifi issues here either.
Either yours is broken or some crap app is causing the issue.
Had the camera thing happen to me yesterday. Also have a screen bug that makes part of the screen disappear.
Buy I consider these android problem's which can be fixed. Not Nexus 4 problems.

OP should re-flash the stock ROM. If his issues continue, I'd RMA the device.

That's just the price. The actual specs could be considered state of the art.
I'm not sure why the 350 price tag seems to give people a sense of cheapness. This is what a high end phone should sell for. Instead companies **** all over the little people of the world by inflating the price by 300% and lots of times more. Google is merely just sticking it back to those companies and also marketing their ecosystem...

</rant>
I feel better now. Sorry if this thread sounds a little selfish but I expected so much more from a Nexus device. My 2011 Xperia arc S might of been a bit laggy but at least it was 100% reliable.

Google says(look at the specs of the phone)... BTW I use the crap out of my N4 camera and have not had these problems. Also I leave mine plugged inost of the day at work (I'm in a vehicle) and have never had an issue with answering. Id RMA it but it up to u if u wanna wait and see if 4.2.2 fixes these issues. I would have though 4.2.2 would be out by now but oh well.

did you put in a custom rom?
The camera bug is well documented as are the WiFi problems. This is not just an issue with my device. I'm on stock 4.2.1 fwiw. Maybe a reflash is worth a try but I doubt it.
Funny how when anyone dares to criticise this device people get all defensive though!

If they are well documeneted why didn't you mention it in op and why don't you get a replacement ?

Use it or lose it. To be quite honest, I don't care either way but there was no need for yet another pointless thread in this forum.

^ yeah because this thread takes up way too much space. /sarcasm
OP: do a factory data reset and If the problem still persists return it!

Is that the point? No.
You go ahead and make pointless threads. See how long they stay unlocked for.

I've had some times where the call and lock screen are unresponsive. Usually there is a home and back button at the bottom for seemingly no reason and I have to hit ”back" to get back to the state where I can use the lock screen.. I'm guessing this is causing the call screen to lose interactivity sometimes as well. I'm suspecting issues related to lock screen widgets/extra functionality/Google Now as none of this used to happen on previous revisions, it seemed to start when that feature set was introduced. I also accidentally bring up the camera from the lock screen which gets annoying, but that's more my fault in the way I pick the phone up sometimes if I "pry" it up when it's sitting against something. Annoying, but whatever.
I have had no camera issues specially yet, though I haven't used it extensively only occasionally.
We are all beta testers for any phone we use. How do you think they know what to change and fix for future models.
Still it sure does not seem so awful for most others.
Plus, we have no idea what apps you may be using that may be messing things up.

He should get a Nokia as the beta test is over for Nokia's ..lol

I totally agree with OP.
Was in Switzerland last week and the camera also decided to stop working, flash would stay on, screen wouldn't turn off and it was boiling.
Turned it on and off but during those 2 days happened more then once.
It was embarrassing because I was telling my family how good this phone was but they just laughed at me. Everyone one else has an iPhone even the kids (3 iPads, 4 iPhone, 2 imacs)
So difficult to get one so might sell mine. I want a phone that works and I am not spending my money to do beta tests.
Ps. This is my second one and I we are not even talking about the rattle and the buzzing

LG Please know we hate this. Let us turn this annoying feature off

This right here pisses me off
Sick of this damn call timer when trying to use other apps during a call.
Although that there isnt the main reason why I'm getting rid of this phone, I'll go ahead and add it to the ever growing list of reasons why I'm dumping it and getting a Nexus 6. Screw LG and their locked down pile of garbage. Sad thing is, it's so much wasted potential.
I love it when a new device comes out, and XDA becomes riddled with whiney posts about "this" or "that" which users say they 'hate' or 'can't stand'. Okay, so there's no publicized root method yet, deemed safe for consumerism, but once that's released I'm sure that every little quarky nuance will have a method to remove, hide, or alter in some way. The call timer has an option for hiding in the LG G3 via G3 Tweaksbox. With that example, I stand confident that this phone will have some type of similarities to, as I mentioned, "deal" with the things people complain about. Fact is, this phone is not impressively different from the G3, and there are no real profoundly engineered improvements made in the G4. You may ask, "Apex, y u bye did fone den?" Good question. My answer is this, I like LG's products and I appreciate the work developers are able to do, in order to make something good, great. So, in the meamtime, until root is available, you won't hear me having a hissy fit about (insert whatever) things. Samsung isn't for me, HTC is bunk, Motorola, well... been there, done that. I think most folks would respect those complaints be made on Reddit, or somewhere besides the place that developers afford us the grace of enjoying what they do for the community, free of charge.

TWRP now too.. ROMS will be flowing soon.
Meh, I left the steaming pile of hardware failures that is a Nexus 6 for the G4. Volume rockers stopped working on the first one, new phone had screen issues, ya, the N6 isn't the greatest phone ever.

It sure was when I posted, or did you not see the date of the Op? Yay, you got root on a phone that should have been unlocked in the first place.

Because clicking a check box to unlock the bootloader is so hard. Root takes time on all modern devices.
Hahaha... Now root being available, I've installed debloated ROM and 3000mah battery serves me really well. Not to mention boost in speed as well. On stock ROM, I was missing my nexus 5 so much.
I hope you stuck around for a little longer. Feels like beasty phone just got injected with the steroid.

Agreed....I was fed up with this phone.....root came and glory glory amen it's a better phone. Even with just a simple debloated ROM....can't wait till they really tweak the stock ROM like crazy. I probably won't go aosp....because of the camera app...whole reason I bought the phone...it deletes the side car RAW file in the default gallery aosp can't do that...neither can manual camera app or Fv5

The thermal throttling and stuff needs some crazy tweaking...and a better kernel...my apps have to re draw too much...memory leak somewhere

I'm not sure if you figured it out, but since we have root, you can download app ops from play store. Go to the phone section and disable draw on top. It will stop the timer. And so far I have not noticed anything wrong.

I checked and I still get the dialog box, make sure the option is checked in the call settings. I'm not sure what you mean about the notification bar, but I can drag down and click on the call, which brings me back to the call.

Thanks for this
Seems like a really silly reason to get rid of an otherwise awesome phone...
What's funny is that the current root methods as dangerous as they are. Are no more dangerous then when I had my Evo4g, and that team didn't have something like "OEM Unlock" to make it easier. No risk, no reward.
Not to mention that you can drag that icon anywhere on the screen so i dont see how it can be so intrucive during other app usage. Also why dont you just talk on the phone, your on a call, pay attention and stop playing with other apps, real easy
