I am considering buying this or a LG G2 or Nexus 5.
My main reason for wanting this above the others is purely for the watreproofness(?if that is a word?)
I was diagnosed with OCD a few years ago and have an obsession with cleanliness, I was my hands 30+ times a day. I have previously broke a phone by wiping it with a antibacterial wipe. So would I be able to give this phone a rinse under a tap once a day and it still be ok?
I know they say x minutes at x depth, but how often can it get wet in reality?
Thanks in advance

Water proofing usually isn't about how often it can get wet. The x minutes at x depth has to do with the amount of time it can spend at that pressure level with the water being forced into it's seals. In terms of washing it once a day or fifty times a day it shouldn't matter. However, it would be recommended to wash it in a bowl of water rather than under the sink as running water is harsher on water proofing. That said, I've taken mine swimming and used in the shower and the waterproofing is great (other then the fact it's useless in the shower because all the water drops hitting it make the touch screen freak out thinking it's being touched by fingers).

I've washed mine several times, taken it in the shower multiple times, used it as a tiny umbrella for my face on a really really rainy day, and soaked it in beer and coca cola. Basically, if you just make sure the flaps are firmly closed the phone is waterproof.

Just a sidenote, SONY themself say that it can´t be used in seawater (saltwater), so how that is compared to bear and cola, is hard to say...
But tapwater should be no problem at all...
Funny thing is a TV-Commercial here in Denmark from a phone company, and in that commercial they actually talk about the Z1 beeing waterproof, while they stand on a Beach !?!
That is sort of misleading information...

Damn i smashed my previous Nokia 5800 but nothing happened to it
Phone flew outta my coat pocket last winter when I started running, smashed all over the road but was still good. Then a few months later was drunk wrestling with my dog and it fell outta my pocket again, my dog found it and chewed on it, plus it rained... Had to search most of the next morning for it, recharged it still worked fine but super chewed... Then the last main thing, I was getting out of a car and it was on my lap, it landed face down with extended batt. on cement and the digitizer finally blew... I've since replaced every part on the phone except the LCD and mobo... I still love this phone and the devs that keep it more updated then then the newest phones out there... Thank God I haven't had to fish in the toilet yet:-o

I actually killed a phone in a toilet I was out partying and I was really drunk. I had to pee and while peeing I had my thing in the left hand and was trying to text with my right hand (which is extremely difficult when the letters on the keyboard are moving around ;-) ) Suddenly I drop it straight down the toilet and I was just like "whoops" and I picked it up. It was dead

Me and a friend used to send the occasional poop pic back and forth. After a morning of too much coffee I released an extra frothy concoction into the toilet and decided it was pic worthy for our chain letter. I dropped the phone into the toilet, quickly grabbed it out and rinsed it in the bathtub. It worked for about two weeks after that but slowly gave in. it was a crappy pantech flip phone. Good riddance. On the plus side nobody would ask to use my phone after that.

I was walking through a McDonalds drive-thru/car park area with my wife and we were having an argument. Out of exasperation, she flung her bag around, and her Sony Ericsson k750i flew out and hit the tarmac, a group of guys were watching not far away.
As I skipped over the get the phone, a car came out of the drive-thru, and despite protests to stop, drove straight over it wheel first. As the crunch happened, the group of guys all went 'ohhhhhhh' at the same time. It was complete dead, shattered screen, and a few mm thinner lol. Didn't know whether to laugh or cry, but glad I had insurance for a next day swap!
i had a sony ericcsson w580i that had a good little run around the insides of my washing machine (by accident of course - forgot to check my pockets beforehand)
the phone still worked fine, but the washing machine went on strike at that point (something about unauthorised foreign objects..)
i never tried 'cleaning' a phone again!!
Many years ago when I was on my way to work.I was talking on phone with my client. Some dude bum on me really hard accidently and my phone flew over to the road and a car ran over it.
the phone were disembowelled and I pick it up, the call still connects and I finished the call with the client with that naked disembowelled phone.
It was an old school Nokia 3310 lol.
It's not dead technically but since the chassis and keypad and screen were all broken .so

More of a fail on my part lol. Had a Samsung u900 and pulled it apart because the keypad was being funny. All went well until I realised I couldn't put it back together. I don't know if a clip broke or what but the internal components never sat right afterwards haha.
Back in high school during my stupid and naive days, my Sony Ericsson k610i's paint was peeling pretty badly. So I idiotically painted it black and went to school. Answered a call and the black paint transfered to my face without my knowledge. I took some serious ridicule that day haha. So I got rid of phone and used a spare for 6 months til contract ended lol

So this phone manages to take a drop onto a brick road and not break while others have happened to just break inside their POCKET. Hmmm

That's not bad at all for dual glass! The iPhone 4/4S shattered from 6ft.
How do we know the one he dropped was the same one he showed to the camera afterwards? It was off-screen after the drop.
Anyhoo. Glass back or not, I'm sure LG took into consideration droppage and I doubt the back is any more delicate than the front.
The only concern I have is that the phone seems very slippery and so I'm more likely to drop it.

I would really recommend a cover for this phone, if you're like me, you'll be a victim of spontaneous human combustion if the back glass cracks.
I'm probably a month or more away from a phone, i already have a front screen protector and one for the back.
it was hard to watch a rare specie of smartphones being drop tested.
i am kind of relieved to know it would withstand a waist high fall.

MAY withstand. But then it could survive a higher drop and break on a much smaller drop. So many variables.
My son dropped his iPad countless times and never suffered a single scratch on the glass and just minor scratches on the back. He even once dropped it down the stairs and still it remained in one piece.
The one day it fell off his knee in the car and dropped 18 inches to the floor and the front completely shattered.
Knowing how the phone looks dissembled I wonder if there will be a way to take the glass off the back keeping all the wireless charging, antenna and replace with 3rd party glass.
I know with the 4s it was very simple to replace the glass back.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rofgMueCOqo
Both of those use GG so it should be a good comparison.

yes very true, this Nexus took the damage from its side on the first drop test. on the bright side, the impact didn't fracture the glass, something that i feared.
I don't like the fact that this phone has a glass back. What is the point? Style? It is just anotehr thing to shatter. Apple set a bad precedent and as fantastic as this phone is, I'd rather have it more durable.
Has anyone else had problems with a their screen being easily damaged , just knocked the phone off a chair with a drop of about 1 foot to a wooden floor and have popped the back case and cracked the screen !!!!!!:crying:
Wow the build quality seems to be really disappointing, but I guess you cant expect much from a 350$ device

Cases suck. Be an adult and treat your $X00 device with some respect.

This. I have NEVER cracked a screen on any of my smartphones, not because they all had good build quality but because i take care with my gadgets. For example before i got my case for the Nexus 4 i would not put it down on a table without a cloth underneath.

Simple physics guys..
Glass will shatter if it hits the ground hard. Don´t forget you don´t own a simple phone anymore like a Nokia 3310 Your smartphones are actually very sensitive mini computers.
Gorilla Glass may prevent the glass from becoming scratched very easy, it will never prevent it from breaking though.
This is hard to read. I have an S2 that's I've dropped many times from hip level, no case, and the screen has yet to crack.
I definitely bought a case for this one because no matter how careful I am I can't keep my phone from dropping.

Now random cracking is an issue, but even 2 inch toughened (laminated) glass will break if it hits the ground along its edges/corners because the stress distribution is concentrated there.

I obviously agree with your first statement but why do people always have to bring up the iPhone to compare things to. How about an HTC One, or a Samsung Galaxy S4 or an LG G2? People think if an iPhone does something then we can just accept it. I would expect an iPhone to break. It is built by underage kids and is known to get damaged easily regardless of what Apple tells us.

I find it really disrespectful when people talk down on people that drop their phones and say they should be more careful.
The reality is we are all human! human's make mistakes! Some make less than others, but we all make mistakes. If you have never tripped, said the wrong thing, accidentally dropped something, well then congratulations you are a perfect person! But no need to put down others.
I did buy my S4A because I occasionally find myself in/near water and am concerned with getting my phone wet. I never thought about actually using it in the water...until this past Friday. I was at the beach and the waves were pretty big. After playing in them for a bit I decided to take my phone in and get some pics up close and personal with the surf. I grabbed a few selfies when my friend grabbed the phone from me and said he would take some of me. I didn't really want him to, but before I knew it he had snatched it from my hand and started taking pics. A set of really good waves came in and pushed me under. When I came up I heard him yell, "Oh ****, I dropped it!" Thinking he was joking I went over only to find he was not kidding. Because of the waves there was almost no visibility with all the sand being churned up. My heart sank (and my blood boiled). There was a strong rip current and I feared my phone had been pulled out and over from where he had dropped it. We searched and searched for about 40 minutes when I was about to resign myself to having lost my phone forever. Maybe some jellyfish would be making calls on it. Suddenly, out of the corner of my eyes I glimpsed a dark shadow in the murky water and I immediately dove over to it. Holy crap! It was my phone. It was in about 4 feet of water about 15 feet from where it had been dropped. Not a scratch on it and still working just fine. I immediately rinsed it in fresh water and made a phone call. No problems, been fine ever since.
I know some have had issues with this phone's water-tightness, but I am now a believer. I may not take it into the ocean again (or let a friend handle it near water), but I feel comfortable that I could. It was a miracle that I found it after being churned around in the surf for 40 minutes.
I would tell that friend that if he likes his hands to not be broke that he should never touch your cell phone again.

I never intended to dunk my phone, but like you, I spend a lot of time in and around salt water. I fell off of some rocks over the summertime, and my phone still works perfectly fine. I have seen many phones fall victim to saltwater after only being submerged for a few seconds. These are awesome phones. If only we could get unlocked and get a working inductive charging back . . .

Nice! the active versions never really took off here!
Just caught a TV commercial with Samsung announcing its Next Big Thing (really, they really said that in their commercial). It's a washing machine that can also be used as a sink! Why would anyone want to use their washing machine as a sink? Will there be an app for custom water? Will it be able to be rooted? Will it run Android or Tizen? Too funny Samsung. Maybe next they can make a matching dryer. Perhaps you'll be able to use it to also dry your hair. SMH

I think they misunderstood "logic".
Actually I really like Samsung appliances, and MUCH more than their phones (which I don't really like anymore)...
Someone has clearly never done his own laundry...
The sink is there to manually wash out stubborn stains without having to run to the kitchen or bathroom all the time. The sink has a wall texture like an old-fashioned washing board for scrubbing.
Not to mention, some fabrics and clothes can't be done in a washingmachine without ruining them or the print. It's so much more convenient when you don't have to walk down three floors just to do one t-shirt, and then back up three floors again to hang it to dry with the rest. And no, not everyone can build a sink wherever they like. Some people rent.
The idea behind the washer-sink is convenience. It's not stupid, it's brilliant.
If they do make a dryer to go with it, one with a flip up clothing rack for the items that can't go in the dryer for obvious reason would be incredibly helpful.

Thank you orangekid. I truly met my soul mate and wouldn't trade her for any woman in the world. In all of our years together, we've had just one argument.
I was just reading an article recently about how short marriages are these days, and I forget whether it's 10 or 15 years, which isn't bad, but still sad that people that claimed to love one another would rather divorce than try to work things out.
