So save the stuff you want to keep on your PC
Did you not realize that this was released here by daywalker04 first and that everyone else got it here? Just saying...give credit where due and understand how and where valuable files like the full xml.zips come from.

Well...(sarcastically) as you can see I don't have a problem giving due credit. I assumed that the people at Droidmodderx released this first. If I knew daywalker04 released this first I would have initially gave him credit.

get to .902 stock from what?
is this from anything?
I am at 901 rooted. with Ecliplse 2.1. (nice!)
If as and when I want to get to 902 stock, unrooted, I use this FXZ, right?
theoretically, wherever you are, rooted, unrooted, from 886 all the way up, this FXZ process will bring you to stock 902?
thanks
Very nice, thanks.

good question i'll try it out
Yep i just went to stock 5.8.886 and then used this FXZ and now I'm on .902.!!! Super Easy!! No CDT Failure or any thing. I didnt even have to flash those updates!!
Very nice I will try this now, I am currently on Eclipse V2.0 and looking to update to either 2.1 or ICS so this will be a good start.
Failed. I have never been able to get fxz to work for me. did a fresh driver install and everything. I actually thought it was going to work too. it failed at 5/12 that seems to be the spot all of them fail for me. Oh well guess i will have to try something else. Thanks for the file though

got stuck in boot loop afterwards. it said it 'PASS'ed but it didn't.. idk i've never had problems with FXZ'ing my Bionic until now
---------- Post added at 08:51 PM ---------- Previous post was at 08:36 PM ----------
RSD Lite would not recognize anything in the unzipped folder, it recognized my original download file and when flashing that file it makes it all the way through the steps and says PASS, but then a bootloop
---------- Post added at 08:57 PM ---------- Previous post was at 08:51 PM ----------
it finally worked, and booted up fine, but it is saying that I am on 5.5.886, while the file that I flashed is the one that I downloaded from this thread...im going to re-download it and try again, maybe something went wrong in my system. do you have an md5 i can get please?
this is the md5 i have: 96e10ae9b00b696e8efed0e076632a53
Question
Alright, I must be missing something really obvious, because this has not been discussed:
I have installed Moto Drivers, installed RSD Lite 5.6, downloaded the .902 filed mentioned in the OP. Phone is on, working just fine, has USB debugging on, etc. I plug the phone in, and start-up RSD. When I try to find the FXZ file, I cannot find anything with FXZ, I have no idea what I am looking for.
Once I have downloaded the .902 file- I have tried to install with just the file, and then tried to find this "FXZ" file after extracting it with WINRAR.
I reviewed the video instructions by Droidmodderx that was listed in the OP. But the video just makes it seem like I am finding one file called "FXZ". I can never find any right file like that when I am running RSD. When when I try to use the un-extracted file in RSD, it does not give me the option of uncompressing and install, it only allows me to uncompress.
I cannot find the right file.
I know I am missing something very obvious, but I just can't find it.
Thanks for your help

xml file is what your looking for...
put phone on Ap Fastboot
FXZ is a made up abbreviation of Full XML Zip that started on XDA when the Droid 3 was released and we first saw this new file format come into use with fastboot bootloader support for the dual core Motorolas.
People still often wrongly refer to them as SBF files because that was the common firmware file format for prior generations of Motorola devices.
The XML.zip format and fastboot is a far more versatile, flexible and safer flash interface so it is an important distinction to make to understand how these files work and what they are.
These files are a set of signed partition images with an XML file that runs them in sequence in RSD Lite.
They can also be flashed with the fastboot.exe in command line as individual files, giving a much more finite control over the flashing process and the ability to selectively fix or change only what is needed rather than completely flash the entire device.
The XML files themselves are scripts that can be modified to perform certain operations like wiping user data or not.
They are very powerful tools and the ability to use them effectively to restore your phone is critical if you want to be able to have fun and mod your device safely.
Ugh
Well, looks like this will be a great learning experience- I not have a "bricked" phone.
I finally was able to get RSD to recognize the phone- I did not have the phone set to "PC Mode", it was only set to "Mass Storage". Once RSD saw the phone I started the process as described in the video- clicked the .tar file, clicked on uncompres and install, and let it go. The uncompress took some time, but once it was done it start the install process-
Bam- fail. Does not seem like it installed a single thing, just automatic fail. The status bar reads:
"Failed flashing process. Failed flashing process. 1/15 flash cdt.bin "cdt.bin" -> Phone returned FAIL.; phone connected"
I disconnect my phone, turn it off, and then try to turn it back on. I am forced to do the fastboot (Power button and volume down). I try it again, same result. I uncompress the file myself with WINRAR, and then select just the XML File- "default_flash_targe"- same result.
Well, what do I do now? my phone is dead, but I am excited to finally learn some more about this phone and how to deal with this type of stuff.
---------- Post added at 12:55 AM ---------- Previous post was at 12:14 AM ----------
Not sure if it makes a difference, but I am not sure which version I was on prior to attempting to do the fxz. I am looking at downloading the .893 stock and going from there. See if that will work at all.

THERE IS SOMETHING WRONG..... NONE OF YOU GUYS ARE EXTRACTING THE ZIP.(or Tar). INSIDE THE TAR, THERE IS ANOTHER ONE. EXTRACT THAT TOO. INSIDE THAT THERE IS A FOLDER LABELED "p2d_targa_cdma_targa-user-2.3.4-5.5.1_84_DBN-55-110814-release-keys-Verizon-US". PUT EVERYTHING INSIDE THAT FOLDER ON THE DESKTOP AND RUN RSD.
That is the wrong file. That is the original stock release xml.zip
That is why everyone is hosing their using this file. You can't flash back to the original firmware with the original cdt.bin anymore.
Look at the error in Dukeuni's post above!
What is wrong is that you are posting the wrong files and people with even less experience than yourself are unaware and getting stuck.
I know that currently Fast Boot Files aren't currently available to us for the Droid 4, but I was trying to find out a FAQ page about the file it self. I know it contains a lot of data, including the phone partitions. My question is, why can we not take 1 set and back up using Safe Strap and create our own to files? I want to say I can answer this by saying that they are signed or we're missing files, but couldn't find the information to confirm my guess. This is the first phone I've used that uses fast boot files vs. the old SBF system(I'm used to the D1, D2G and DX). If someone could point out a link or what to actually search for the answer, that'd be cool, or just confirm my guess on it, that'd be awesome too. Thanks
I believe the problem is when we got to fast boot files we use motofastboot or something like that. It isnt Google's normal fastboot commands. That in turn means we need signed fastboot files. I may be wrong but that's my understanding

Here i have finally found the way after a long search in forums to downgrade Atrix HD using RSD.
It is simple.
Download your required firmware from here : Fastboot files
or
Mirror
Download rsd lite from here : RSD lite 5.4.4
now extract the firmware zip file and open the .xml file with notepad. here you need to do 2 things.
1) remove the two lines containing "getvar.step operation=”getvar” var=”max-download-size”
2) remove the line "<step operation="flash" partition="partition" filename="gpt_main0.bin" MD5="5EE7E4CB385C3487F97E7B0431F6B297" />"
now save the .xml file, zip it again and flash with RSD lite.:victory:

To be fair, in an age where people are looking for a one-click type solution to handle things I wanted to learn the longer way of doing something and just shared my result. Like all things computer-related, there is more than one way to skin a cat. Next someone will do a "one-click" where every process of rooting and unlocking the bootloader is automated, right down to installing the ROM and all you have to do is press Enter once the device has hit the specific state. Myth still requires you to back out and return to the menu.
Not saying one-clicks aren't handy. They are. Not saying I couldn't have searched the forums more. I could have, but I took a longer way of doing something and learned in the process. Good for me, I'll get myself a cookie.

you have to remove the 2 lines mentioned in the op (original post) after you download the rom make sure to extract the .xml file and do exactly as mentioned in the OP that's what i did and it worked 100% and then replace the old .xml file with the new one and let rsd lite do the rest.

This should be in q&a/ troubleshooting or atrix HD general. This forum is for development only. The reason I say this is because I get notifications from the development forum but not the others, so I don't want to be notified by "downgrade Matrix HD to ICS" (a topic that has been covered numerous times) in the Dev forum, when that isn't news. Read before you post. Search before you post. And when you do post, put it in the right place. It keeps everything clean and everyone happy.

Hello all,
I just purchased a Moto Atrix HD and have already gotten it nice and rooted and unlocked and I'm planning on flashing a ROM very soon as well as perhaps doing some development of my own for the community. I've never done any work for Motorola devices in the past because of the locked bootloaders and how easy it is to hard-brick the device. However, since we have unlocked bootloaders, it changes things for us a lot. My question is whether a stock image which could be flashed via the bootloader/fastboot commands exists and where I could get that from if it does. Also, does anyone know of a way to boot directly to the bootloader from 'off'? That's also an important piece of information to have if I have a soft brick. I realize these are fairly selfish requests of a developer but you have to realize that I'm not made of money and while the Atrix HD isn't my main device, I'm still a college student and money doesn't seem to grow on trees I appreciate any leads that anyone can give me or information that you can provide!
Cheers!
We do have firmwares that can be flashed in fast boot. I cannot link them now, but if you Google "atrix HD sbf" it should give you each one on the first or second link. It will have some for Mex, some for ATT, and some for Bell. Get the latest one for your carrier (I believe Mex and ATT have same radio but Mex has less bloat).
And to boot directly into bootloader (fastboot), hold vol down and power.

Thanks! I found an awesome site with every sbf since the beginning of time. Now, would the best way to flash one of these images (.xml?) be through rsd lite?

You could either do that (but I recommend Myth Tools over RSD, never used RSD myself), or manually flash it because I've always had problems flashing with Myth. To install with Myth Tools, just put the *.xml.zip into the "*\Myth Tools - AHD\firmwares" folder and flash it using Myth, simple as that. To flash it manually, extract the zip anywhere (I use 7z and use the "extract to \zipfoldernamehere\" option to keep everything neat) and open the XML in notepad++ (I prefer ++ over regular notepad) and you'll see a big block of stuff in the middle with lines such as "<step operation="flash" partition="partition" filename="gpt_main0.bin" MD5="F36E6FB37E6BD0066FAF56688603DDD0" />". You'll need to start with the one posted above, don't bother with the "getvar max-download-size", run the commands as "fastboot [step operation] [partition] [filename]". Whatever is in quotes after each of the above, put that in the command so it looks like "fastboot flash partition fpt_main0.bin".
I recomend RSD Lite 6.1.

As far as I know, the only verifiable "factory images" are the Developer Edition ones that Moto hosts on their personal website.
The SBF may/may not be official factory images. However, they are essentially accepted by the community as the next best thing, mainly because the zips follow the rules set by RSD Lite (Insider Moto Tool) and help prevent bad flashes/user error.
Flashing the SBF firmware manually (via fastboot commands) can raise a few problems of its own, if you don't know what you are doing you can cause serious damage to your device, which is why it is safer to use something like RSD Lite. If you are manually flashing, there is no "check" to verify that you installed them in the correct order or that you flashed all the files without missing anything. Therefore, it is much more risky, please know what you are doing if you plan on flashing this way.

Depends on if you edit the xml file or not. The bootloader will be flashed by default and data will be wiped by default. It's been a while since I've used RSD but I think when it wipes /data it wipes everything (i.e. including /media). That being said, you could always take those steps out of the xml file.

Will this work? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gDJvZe7_s0E
While yes it will work I would suggest learning HOW it works, take a look at the steps it goes through and see what is happening, don't rely on these kinds of tools, because they become useless if something bad happens. However, if you look at and modify the XML, it is literally only taking out a few lines of code, but if you want an automated version, then use the tool.

There are a few tutorials for setting it up correctly, I'm not sure that you need the full SDK in order to do this, but I guess it's nice to have anyways. Try reading up a bit about it, I'm sure you can get it running in no time , after that you'll be much more familiar with these kinds of things.
OP, are you on 4.4? if so, then you don't have to worry about the bootloader. Just download the most current factory image from Motorola. The instructions for flashing the factory images are on their website. Go to www.motorola.com, go to the bottom of the page and click on "Developers". Its the same page you went to in order to get the bootloader unlock code. You have to request the factory image, and Motorola will email you a link, or there's several links to it floating around here.
The factory image will have the same bootlaoder version as you have installed as long as your are flashing the same OS version. It won't relock your bootloader, but you will lose root until you flash TWRP recovery. as far as the media partition, just back up your sdcard partition to your computer before flashing the factory image.
Here's the steps:
1. Plug your MX into the computer and back up all files you want to keep (photos, music, videos, downloads, etc...)
2. Download the 4.4 factory image from the source of your choice (If you don't get it from Motorola, make 100% sure you are downloading the correct file)
3. Make sure you have ADB and fastboot set up properly (and make sure you use the motorola fastboot (mfastboot.exe), bot the Google version)
4. Unzip the factory image and place all the files into the same folder as your adb and fastboot files.
5. Boot your MX into fastboot mode (power off, then hold all three buttons for approx 5 seconds and release)
6. Flash the files using mfastboot, and following the order provided in the included xml file.
7. Reboot.
8. Set your phone up and then restore the files you backed up to your computer
9. If you want root, then you will have to go back to fastboot and flash the TWRP recovery and let it install SuperSU.
10. Finally, PLEASE, make a nandroid back up once you have everything set up and before you make any alterations to it.
