1. Yes, look here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2087424
2.You need custom recovery: Install this kernel to get it: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=46248301&postcount=2442
With this and this.
3. I will suggest you HarshJelly ROM.
For explanation how to install ROM, use youtube. How to istall rom with CWM.

For Universal kernel flash you need some explorer with root permissions. When you browse for kernel it will prompt you from where to get one, and it will not work if you do not have Solid explorer or similiar explorer.

Yes, press Flash kernel image.
You use kernel.bin.md5 file? I can't remember is it in zip or is not. If it is zipped - unzip and find kernel.bin.md5.

Hello! I recently flashed my GT-I9000 with Darkys. I now became more interested in ROMs like Cyanogenmod and MIUI. Could somebody please tell me how to change from custom rom to another? Is it different? How about lagfixes? Do i need to disable something? Step by step guide would be appreciated. Thanks!

Have you got lagfix enabled? If you have you should disable this first
The ROMs you are referring to have full install instructions. If you wanted to start from a stock ROM you can flash using Odin then start from scratch

Nice to see some other fin's
You are on 2.2 stock rom right?
(You may skip this if you've already done)
First, root your phone
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=803682
Then, go to Market with your phone and install ROM Manager and flash ClockWorkMod trought it
(You can get to Clockworkmod by pressing Volume UP + MENU + Power On when phone is off)
(Start here)
Read this and flash the file in it trough CWM (=Clockworkmod). (install zip from sd-card>choose zip)
Before it do a nandroid backup with Clockworkmod.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1047924
After flashing it, (I suggest you to use the Cyanogenmod ROM, its much better than MIUI IMO) just see this guide and download Cyanogenmod and flash it trough CWM

I have also another idea but It may voide your warranty
first flash emanon rom and then boot into recovery and go to mount and storage from there format everything except sdcard there are also some chances of hard brick after that take it to customer care office they will fix but this method is risky

Your solution is to reflash stock rom. Then you must be rooted in order to have cwm ...

He's right flash the stock.
But I dont think we need to root the phone to use cwm, you can install it even you arent rooted. But fyi cwm cant be used to root the phone, it must use the stock.

Yeah, possible and good solution would be to flash stock ROM via Odin. And then if you need root, follow StoneBoyTony's method for rooting. (You can find the thread here)
Another option if you like is, after flashing stock ROM, flash CWM recovery and install any Custom ROM like CM7 or MIUI or Emanon etc. Custom ROMs comes pre-rooted, so don't have to worry about root. (But remember, CWM recovery is needed for installing custom ROMs)

True. For using CWM recovery, the phone needn't have to be rooted.
True. CWM recovery can't be used for rooting, stock recovery is preferred.

2) if i do need the *.ops file can i use the same or does it need to be a different one?
3) what filetype (zip or img) to use for the stock rom and where to put in odin (boot or phone)?

You can change it to English, its easy if you followed the icons. I forgot to say it before to have a look at the icons for changing language.
Anyways Click Application icon (Bottom rightmost icon) > Settings (blue Gear-like icon) > Locale & Language (White colored A icon) > Select English from the list.
And, if you plan to get a different "Custom" ROM, make sure you install CWM recovery before. (Search in Development section for CWM recovery flashable via Odin)

You dont have any back up? If have you need to restore your back up. It happens because your SystemUI.apk is not compatible with the current framework. If you have a custom rom you can copy SystemUI.apk file from your downloaded zip file in system/app and move to system folder, set permission and move to app folder and repalce with current on and finally reboot if didnt work flash a custom or stock rom.

Most likely your rom is stock odexed. You can manually delete the corresponding .odex files of those files which are replaced by the MOD in /system/app and reboot.

That root method with Odin is for Android 2.3. You tried it on 4.1.2? If yes, then download your JB firmware again and install it with Odin (like you did with that root). And use this for root: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2087424

Yes, I tried it on 4.1.2. I'm downloading the firmware now (it seems I'll have to wait a bit longer), I'll install it and I'll get back to you to tell if it worked. Thank you !
It worked ! Thanks guys ! But I have another question: shut_down the root method you showed me..will it work if my phone has never been rooted?

Yes, it will work. That zip is signed, and it can be installed with stock recovery without root.

Yes, that root method work on all stock Jelly Bean firmware.

Guys, I've encountered another problem and I thought it wasn't necessary to open another thread. So..I managed to root my phone and I would like to install a custom ROM but I have problems with Clockwork mode. I found a thread about temporary CMW for JB and I tried it but it doesn't seem to work. I installed it but when I want to navigate through it's menus (for example going to the "install zip from sd card" menu) it restarts. Even when I try to reboot my phone ("reboot system now") it doesn't work. CWM just restarts. Any thoughts ?

Install CoCore with Universal kernel flash, and use permanent cwm. You need to unzip it, and use kernel.bin.md5 and you must have some root explorer installed.

Is there any way to do this without changing the kernel ? I'm worried about bricking my phone

No, you cannot change kernel without rooting your phone.
And rooting has a lot less risk of bricking phone.
