Does anyone of you know how to toggle the softkey backlight on/off? Or is it possible anyway?
I know this is just a very unimportant feature, but it annoys me
Thank you for your answers!

On the Lumia 920, under [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\Touch\Buttons] there is a folder called Backlight which access is denied. This key is not present on the ATIV S so it varies

I'll take a closer look at that after work...
another question ^^
I've read your post
Found this in the ATIV S registry.
http://wap.samsungmobile.com/uaprof/GT-I8750.xml
It mentions LTE under supported bearers. But this is for the GT-I8750, not the SGH-T899M, which has LTE.
Very confusing. The ATIV S has an LTE chipset (My ATIV S' drivers are all MSM8960), but is LTE disabled by Samsung to cut costs by just using one motherboard and disabling LTE on one and enabling LTE on another?
WindowsPhone.com mentions that the GT-I8750 uses a MSM8960 chipset (LTE chipset), and I sincerely doubt that windowsphone.com would get the chipset wrong for a phone with its OS.
Conclusion: Samsung uses the same motherboard on both the SGH-T899M an GT-I8750 to cut costs and on the T899M, they flashed ROMs with LTE enabled and on the I8750, they flashed ROMs with LTE disabled. Similar to the Lumia 810, LTE can be disabled even though it has an LTE chipset. Kinda expected this from Samsung...

I'm not able to post there yet but got an idea...maybe it's possible to extract the necessary driver files from a SGH-T899M and import it to a GT-I8750 to make LTE work?
Due to full fs access this should theroetically possible, but I assume even if you could enable this key on the GT-I8750, there are more registry entries necessary to "link" this drivers...

Great. This could be done. It would be best if some one who does this could afford getting another ATIV S to test this out because this could potentially brick your phone.
The awesome thing about how this could be done is because all you have to do is compare each files with each other. I'll open a thread in the Development and Hacking forum

there isnt alot of things that can be done with the phone right now.. which company do u have it from?
the first would be App Unlock your phone to be able to install applications .. jsut search on google "app unlock S620" and follow that procedure...
I have a wm6.0 running so i have a couple of skins and stuff installed... most of the stuff that can work on the Vox Forums can work on libra as well. besides the roms ofcourse.
if you got any other questions holla for sure... i know it was a pain for me to find any information on the phone!

surprised me too! the poor phone still doesn't have enough ram and is missing wifi, otherwise it would be perfect.
I just picked up one of these phones yesterday and am still getting used to not having a touch screen. If I'm not mistaken this phone does have the GPS. What's the process for getting it to work with Google Maps, etc?
Thanks
no this phone doesnt have gps....
it has the processor which is needed to have gps... but apparently it doesnt work with any company...
iv looked around for a fix .. but no one has found out one...
and 5800 doesnt have wifi built in either

Anyone on Rogers managed to get this to work? I miss not being able to see the name of the person/company who is calling me.
+1
From what I understood, we need to activate ro.ril.enable.cnap=1 in build.prop.
I tried that, no go (CM7 RC2)
Anyone have any other idea?

Yeah, that doesn't work on a stock ROM either. There's obviously something we are missing.

I would also love to have this. The information must be being sent TO the phones, right? There must be a way.
There's gotta be a way indeed. But alas, it's way beyond my expertise
Some Android phones do support CNAP. So it must be a problem with the software/radio.
Any guru volunteering to help out?
This was a big "WTF, seriously?" for me when I got my Nexus One after having a Nokia N95 for years where this worked perfectly. I've gotten used to it, but I'd love to have the name display again.
Do other carriers do this? People I know using Bell or Telus were surprised or even didn't believe me when I said I used to get name display with my N95, which suggests maybe they don't. Anyone know how common it is for carriers to send the name? I've been with Rogers for over 10 years now and just figured it was a standard thing like with landlines.
I had my SE W810i (best non-smartphone by far) and it worked perfectly. Since then, tried many phones, none of them supported CNAP. Had a nokia that would support it but wouldn't keep it in the call list. Pretty useless when I got missed calls.
I know some android phones do support CNAP. So this is entirely possible. We just need one of the gurus to figure out what has to be done!
I think it has something to do with this file : /data/misc/rild_ril.cnap
Sent from my Nexus One using XDA Premium App

I believe Rogers is the only Canadian carrier that offers CNAP/name-display.
I remember the difficulties we had in trying to get it to work on Windows Mobile devices. There was a work-around, but it required , but it required using a specific file (rilphone.dll) from a Rogers ROM for the same/similar device... Maybe we need the /data/misc/rild_ril.cnap from a Rogers ROM for a similar device...
If I'm not mistaken, the Rogers Samsung Galaxy supports CNAP.

I think what we need is an HTC device that has a Rogers ROM with CNAP working, which I don't think exists...
Having virtual buttons has been excellent, both for a sensible button layout and because it puts the three-dot overflow menu into a consistent, intelligent location. I know you can get it on AOSP-based ROMs, but I'd be curious to try it with one of the Google Edition variants. Is there one which supports the virtual buttons?
Have you tried adding qemu.hw.mainkeys = 0 to your build.prop? I'm not sure if it'll work, but it's worth a try.

I'm actually such a noob that I don't even know what the build.prop is...
If you go to /system/, there's a file called build.prop. If you open the file, you can add "qemu.hw.mainkeys=0" to the end, which should enable software keys. I'm not sure if it'll work on Sense/GE ROMs, but there's no harm in trying. Just make a backup before you do any editing!

To my super limited background, that looks like it should just disable hardware keys, but I'll give it a shot. Thanks!
Also if anyone knows of a GE ROM with such an option built in, I'd appreciate it.

Were you ever able to get it to work? I did try adding that command to the stock touchwiz on my GS4, but it never worked. GUI froze and restarted all the time. Having the nexus virtual buttons on the GE HTC & GE GS4 roms would be excellent. Please help anyone! =)

Thought it was pertinent to any GE Edition Rom - HTC, Samsung, whatever. I'd assume enabling software keys would not be device specific in a GE ROM? (well, at least I hope it is) Just saying......

If that's the case then why bother having device specific forums? May aswell just have one forum where people post anything ... If I wanted to ask a question about the HTC One, I wouldn't be asking it in the Samsung section, what's the point?

The point being the question was more about enabling the virtual keys in relation to the GE software only. The thread title & discussion was more relevant.
I've now been able to get the virtual keys for both GE edition phones working using the same build.prop command. The command applied to both devices since it concerned the software rather than the hardware....... whether I posted here or in the Samsung forum (which I did) didn't really make a difference did it?......the outcome was the same.
Of course posting in a device specific section is best when the discussion is about the specific hardware, that's obvious. This thread could have easily been located in the Android Dev and Hacking section, but it wasn't and so I just made do with it.
Hope that is a satisfactory enough explanation for this storm in a teacup....if not, have an apology for your appeasement

The only thing I saw was Ultrashot saying it was a Riffbox "hack" (meaning you'd need to have some special hardware and probably physically open up your phone, to do it).

its also unbelievably dodgy if you don't know what your doing.
You effectively connect directly to the ROM chip, an I mean that in a physical sense and rewrite any data you want, you can "root" anything doing this as you'll bypass any security measures, its just a matter of getting the correct software to flash on to the thing that's tricky, oh and the small matter cracking open your device, locating the chip, working out the necessary configurations to power it up and flash it
I did some research on this for the focus S and yes its possible but its way beyond my abilities

It's dispointing for sure....All I want is 3 rows of tiles and custom colors on my 928.... is this too much to ask ? (Not at Devs at Microsoft)...
Then get the ATIV Odyssey, which I just unlocked InteropUnlocked Sunday, except three tiles might be overkill on a 480x800 screen. O_0
I haven't updated to GDR3 yet because I'm not sure how to avoid Diagnosis' changes once I update.

If you are 8.1 user use custom wpsystem and customPFD
also you can use resource hacker of djamol after that . Using resource hacker is not maybe very safe for this time so wait for it
Note that djamol's hacks don't make a complete root, though they are the closest thing that is public right now for a Lumia like yours. Nobody's going to say anything about a full root until it's ready, and ideally not even then not until after a major update (to give the most possible time before MS <REDACTED>s us over with an update that takes away control of our personal devices again).
Is there any info about glance screen and double tab to wake for ativ S ?
After Lumia`s black update, i am wondering will we have any of those extras? Any news i didnt heard yet ?
And in Bulgaria in one precise gsm operator - VIVACOM wp8 has a horrible problem... When i call someone and on the second line someone call me durring a call, i dont see the name or number , i see unknown caller.
Nokia fixed that issue with their Black update, i wanna ask somebody familiar will samsung make an update to their devices also ?

The glance screen is no doubt working through some ROM extension, so the chances of it working on ATIV s is kinda small, unless samsung or some hacker makes a rom which supports it.
Well, if we get SYSTEM privs on the Ativ phones, we will be able to install drivers from other OEMs. That would be cool. Still working on it... sorry for the lack of progress, I have been too busy for much research the last month or so.

Glance and Double Tap-to-Wake are Nokia-specific features and have specific drivers to work, simply installing the app will NOT make it work.
I've been meaning to look into bringing glance to Interop-Unlocked devices, although I know it won't be easy. I'll research more about this somewhere this week.
Double tap is not even needed on the Ativ as we can wake the phone with the hardware Win-button.
