Hello all,
I was a proud owner of S3, but now I bought a S3 mini and after I've rooted it, I've seen some things that I cannot understand.
I'd love if you could help me out - I'll buy you a big cup of coffee
I'm running a stock JB 4.1.2 with CWM and SU binary.
Well, If I remember correctly, my menu and back buttons had haptic feedback before I rooted it. Now that is gone. I think.
There's also no option to set the haptic feedback anywhere. The keyboard while typing a SMS if vibrating on keypress just like it should (using hackers keyboard atm), even by moving the icons around the screen, vibration works smoothly. Am I missing something?
Another weird thing is, when I download an apk via chrome or classic android browser, I can't install it. The file checksums are ok, without errors. My 'allow unknown sources' is also checked so it should let me install any apk. Is that correct? But it does not.
I've tried the app APK installer and with it's help it installed the apk in 0sec without any problems.
What happened to my haptic feedback? Could the rooting processs overwrite that part i.e. removing my haptic feedback?
Why can't I install normal APKs when unknown sources are checked and why do I have to use a 3rd party app for this?
Thank you in advance!
Our device is possesed by Haptic Nazi and therefore no haptic feedback for you

Even if you longpress menu button to activate search you will get haptic feedback, but no.. there is no haptic feedback on stock 4.1.2. roms (can't remeber if there any on older 4.1.1. roms).

Should work on ALL AOSP based Eclair roms
** ROOT IS REQUIRED **
This is a simple application that allows you to use the menu key to unlock the phone from the lockscreen rather than sliding the tab.
Simply run the app, enable the option, and then press menu to unlock the phone when you're on the lockscreen.
Tested on the Nexus One, Droid, and the G1. (All were running 5.0.x)
If you want to support me, scan the QR code and buy it from the market, but otherwise simply download the attached APK. I'm releasing it for free on XDA because this is my 'home' community and I'm loyal to my roots. (Please don't mirror the APK anywhere else)
I'm cross-posting this from the Nexus One subforum because of all the questions in #cyanogenmod about menu unlock
wait what? i can unlock from the lockscreen by pressing menu and i never installed this app......in fact i would prefer if it didnt
i too would prefer that it didnt unlock with the menu key. been trying to find a way to not have this happen.. interesting app though haha. i didnt know there was a phone that did not unlock with the menu key. from dream to magic and various roms this was the case.
This is for the latest CM5.0.7-test2 D/S where Menu to Unlock is disabled by default.

And my not But I want it back, so maybe I will install this apk.
I find this utility very usefull i have tried in 2.1 and 2.2 Froyo and works perfect - I hate the Slider screen to unlock - this is a real life saver.
I have a small request - is it possible to we can add an option in this app to assign the Camera button to pick up calls along with this - it would make it perfect !
Or if it can be made into a separate app like this - small and focused app.
I wouldnt mind paying for the option if needed !
Please?
Doesn't work in Gingerbread. Does this functionality depend on the kernel to support it ?
I have enabled Voice input in Settings --> Language and Keyboard --> Samsung Keypad --> Voice Input.
However, when I press the "Voice Input" button in the keyboard, it shows that Voice Input is disabled in my phone. You can see the screenshot below.
I DID NOT install a custom ROM, all stock. My phone is ROOTED and I have NOT "frozen" any apps that I think is critical for voice input. You can see the list below of ALL the apps I have "frozen" using Titanium Backup.
Can anyone help?

FROZEN APPS LIST
I seem to have this issue as well but I AM on a Custom ROM and am Rooted, etc. Id also like to know how to fix this as I like to use this feature for "Talking to text", etc... Also, I am using SmartKeyboard at the moment but I dont think that has anything to do with it as I have used this keyboard on my SGSII as well (which was also running custom ROM and was rooted) and I never had this issue before.
Anyone?
***EDIT***
Hmmm... I went back into the Samsung Keyboard settings and unchecked then RE checked the voice input option and now it seems to be working...
Well i checked and i have exactly the same issue.. stock rom and rooted, mic crossed out just like OP...
edit: mucked about a bit, and finally read the manual?...doh!.. Once i started voice input by double press of the home button it all started to work..

So you can press the "microphone" icon in the keyboard and it works now? Or are you referring to "double-clicking" the home button?
What I am looking for is the 2nd paragraph above. For example, I want to use voice input to write email WHILE I have the email app open. With my Thunderbolt, I can do so by tapping on the "microphone" icon.
No one use the "Voice recognition" in the Note?
Hi there,
Since I can't post in the related dev thread (I'm a new user), I have to post here
I've done the OTA upgrade from ViperOne 6.0.1 to 6.1.0. Everything went fine. But...
Since then I have the soft keys menu on my screen. Always. And I don't want/need them, since I use the capacitive buttons of the phone.
I can't find any option in Venom Tweaks to hide the soft keys, though I could swear I've seen an option for that in the previous version.
Am I the only one having this problem?
Is there a solution?
Thanks!
qemu.hw.mainkeys=1

I got the same problem, you can going to
system/build.prop
and scrolling to the bottom paste this
qemu.hw.mainkeys=1
then reboot the phone...... soft key must gone.
Thank you! That worked.
A simple restart wasn't enough, I cold reboot was necessary.
I don't know if it's related to that, but now some apps (like Chrome) seem to think my phone has a capacitive contextual Menu button... It doesn't display the Chrome menu icon

Is there a workaround for this?

I notice that until you told me...but long press the home button could replace the menu button.
i flash viper 6.1 but doesn't have any on screen button,.
Anyone know if this can be changed through settings (or even an app of some kind)? I can't find anything on it.
I really miss this feature from my S5, especially since I don't ever use split screen which is the default for longpress on the S6
also searching for a solution

I agree. Sorry no answer... but I have seen several threads elsewhere on the topic and this is driving me nuts. From a user perspective: I was previously able to surf on my phone and bookmark / share via the menu key with only one hand. Now I can't because of the change in this key. This is not just a case of stubborness: one handed usability is important for many groups - from the physically compromised to late-night-feeding mothers. I hope a developer can offer a work around soon.

If you're willing to root, you can install LMT for one handed control, including menu button access and the thumb reach stretching pointer.

Let me explain my problem... I love to use on-screen soft key instead of capacitive keys on my Galaxy S6... But when I try to use Camera app the UI of the app (buttons) is under lapped to the Soft key (back, home, multitasking buttons)... So is there any way the UI of camera app can be fixed while using soft key on Galaxy S6...? Smart Manager app has same problem...
Please see attached screenshot...

Did you try clearing the camera app cache and data see if that helps? its not suppose to be like that in your screenshot.
As I mentioned in the the 'multidpi system app mod thread' where you also posted this question this is a result of the dirty multi-dpi fix... The apk has it's dimension values set to absolute pixels instead of dp... As a result it doesn't take into account the actual displayable view, but just stretches across the entire screen.
So this isn't going to work with the multidpi versions, an earlier mod where dp values where changed also didn't work so I have no idea how to fix this for now... Only solution if you wish to use softkey is to use standard dpi of 640 and the unmodded stock apks.
*EDIT*
By the way, as you posted this in the modded apk thread I assumed you are sing these... But as I haven't done anything to the smart manager I am starting to doubt that. If that isn't the case you can forget my remark (Still no clue though, apart from the fact that Samsung seems to suck at making these apps scale properly)
I've ran into a problem on 5.1.1 (just updated) with navbar. The themes won't work! When trying to apply a theme it says that I have to remove "keyboard cover". Is the a service we can disable to make themes work again with navbar? Any ideas? There were no issues with 5.0.2
