So i'm on T-Mobile and i got my GSM Dev edition phone.
wondering how could i switch to the 3G band since you know, 4G is killing my battery and i would like to even go as low as 2G for days that i know i won't be checking my phone but having it available if needed.
tried on the network settings but could not find much also tried with power toggles app and didn't switch.
any idea?
I haven't put this on my Moto X yet but I use Xposed and the GravityBox module on my HTC One which exposes additional settings, one of which is the toggle for 2g/3g/lte. You will need root to install Xposed. Check out this thread:

Tried with the app and xposed module, forced 3g mode and i can't connect. Seriously wtf Motorola

If you're like me then you spend a lot of time going into settings and switching from LTE to 3G and back to LTE to get your fourth G back. This task can be made much easier within the framework of CM7 that already exists but since I am not a dev I am unfortunately unable to code this idea myself. Here is my request:
If you go to
Settings -> CyanogenMod settings -> Interface -> Notification power widget -> Widget Buttons
then you can use the "Toggle 2G/3G" option to put a toggle in the pull down windowshade to switch back and forth between 2G and 3G.
There are, however, two problems. One, the toggle really only goes between 2G and 3G, not LTE, (see the choices in the first screenshot), and two, the "Toggle 2G/3G" box itself is ghosted (second screenshot). Does anyone know how to get the correct choices in the menu and activate the button for use in the taskbar?
Thanks in advance.
I doubt this be done until ril can be merged successfully since it could cause a lot of issues on LTE phones.

Yeah, this is imperative as LTE starts hitting more devices that CM will hopefully be supporting. The reason these options are currently unavailable is because they are really GSM network-specific; CDMA networks do not have a native 2g data service to fall back on.

sad face. thanks for the knowledge, though.
I was just accessing the radio settings to switch to 3G evdo and it doesn't pick up anything just goes blank and then switches to 1x. Has anyone been able to connect to 3G with moto x? I have LTE just wanted to experiment how much better battery I can get with 3G.
Update: factory reset didn't help. Called Verizon their not sure whats wrong. But said that Motorola is aware of the problem which a lot of people are having and they are working on a fix, I call BS on that since others I've spoke to do have 3G on their moto x.

I was curious about this as well, but have not found a way to switch to it. Does the phone support 3g bands?
The Moto X does support 3G but as far as manually setting the radio I'm not sure on that.
Install widgetsoid, pick the 4g toggle. It will bring you to a menu where you can turn off 4g. Just be sure to screenshot the settings before. Volume down +power button.
Hi guys,
Do you know a valid method to turn of LTE data here ?
Hello,
If you pull down the Quick Tiles and click on the Verizon Wireless tile you can turn off mobile data (you can still receive phone calls and sms) and you choose CDMA or GSM under the "More" section in the main wireless settings. You cannot choose 3G only (perhaps if the phone ever gets rooted, but possibly not then either). There isn't much reason for this as the LTE antenna is integrated on the Qualcomm 805 chip and does not cause extra battery drain like previous add-on LTE antennas. Especially not one the phone is upgraded to VoLTE
need a real button to deactivate LTE.

Hello everyone,
I've got a 2013 unlocked moto x that I've been using on T-Mobile. It's running the latest version, so I can't seem to root. I was wondering if there was some way with an apn or something to disable lte on the phone. I have pretty bad lte signal here and it ends up draining the heck out of my battery throughout the day. There's no setting in mobile network options at all, it just let's me switch to 2g only. Am I missing something? I've tried changing it with an app, but it doesn't stick after a reboot, which is slightly irritating.
Hope yall can help, thanks.
- use APN epc.tmobile.com instead of fast.t-mobile.com
- if that doesn't get rid of LTE then you can set to WCDMA Only mode from the Phone Info menu. This is a hidden menu, you'll need an AnyCut shortcut or an app like Radio Switcher. I have radio switcher, all it does is open the Phone Info menu. Once you get in there and toggle the option for WCDMA Only, I suggest you toggle data off then back on. I've found this helps it stick even after reboot.
Unlock the bootloader if you want root.
I'll try the other apn first thanks.
@nhizzat unless I'm mistaken I can't unlock the bootloader if I've already updated to 4.4.4
I have a T-Mobile Nexus 6 I have been using on Verizon since it came out. This is by far the best phone ever. I have Android 5.1 with HD voice and VoLTE enabled. I have been through all levels of Verizon tech support and have been told that my Nexus 6 will never have VoLTE activated on my line because I am using a phone purchased from another carrier. I have not been given a clear answer as to what in my phone is not compatible with VZW's VoLTE. Does anyone have any suggestions?

You can set it up in my verizon I believe. I was able to do that though I did that way before I changed my phone to nexus 6
My GPS N6 won't do volte either even though its activated on both ends. They say my device will always be an unknown in their system.
I don't believe that at all. My Moto purchased N6 has VoLTE right now and has for a few weeks now.
I put my sim in my daughter's Droid Maxx and was able to get the HD voice option added to my line, but the feature or VoLTE will not activate on the VZW network with it in my N6. Tier 2 support told me it will never be compatible or activated.

Is it activated on your account? If so enter *#*#4636#*#* on your phone dialer.
- When the 'Testing' menu opens select 'phone'
- Scroll down to a button that says something about "Turn On VoLTE Flag" select it.
- Restart your phone and wait until you jump back onto the network.
- Go to your cellular network settings and make sure your preferred network is LTE/CDMA, and enhanced 4G LTE is ticked 'on'.
Done... I just did it myself. Let us know how it goes.
My sprint N6 running on Verizon had VoLTE right now without any issues.

Done all that. Mine shows being on, both on mine and their side. Doesn't work.

Are both phones running 5.1? What kind of phone does the other person have? Are you sure it's set up properly? I had to tinker with my wifes iPhone6+ to make sure it was activated on her device.
The other possibility is that VoLTE may not be in your area.
Guys! All nexus 6 devices are created the same. I fought and fought with Verizon to turn this on for my GPS device. Got endless run around. Had a friend with a Verizon nexus 6. Popped my Sim in his phone. Got it activated. Popped it back and all is good. Also don't assume it works in your ROM. Flash stock for testing of volte.
For the longest time I couldn't understand why VOLTE was not working for me. I had it enabled before getting the GPS N6. I later found the ROM did not support it. Now most ROMs I try have this feature working.

I have a T-Mobile purchased Nexus 6 and I activated VoLTE on verizon's website and on the phone and it's been working since day one. I am using stock.
All the n6's sold here are the same model, xt1103. Keep trying.
I just updated to the latest m build and volte now works. Running Scotts stock build. I initially clean flashed Chroma and it quit working again. Reflash M and it works.

Chroma has been had voice over lte working for the last couple of builds. If you're talking about the early stages then yes volte wasn't present since a large number of proprietary libraries and apps were missing from the original packaging provided by Google.

I finally have VOLTE working! I did three things, though, and am unsure which made the difference. I installed Scott's stock rooted ROM as a secondary ROM using Multirom. Volte worked using this ROM. I then rebooted into my primary ROM, which is Euphoria, updated to it's latest version, toggled VOLTE off and then back on in the hidden menu, and I then VOLTE was working! I hope the FCC burns Verizon for treating their customers like this. It's all because of their refusal to add our devices to their database.
