Hey guys,
as many others here, I upgraded to JB, and everything seems fine. However, one thing bothers me: there's an app that seems accountable for 15% of device usage (according to battery stats), it's com.motorola.motocare. Does anybody know what this is for and if there is a way to keep it from using that much battery (or uninstalling it, for that matter)?

Some of the system apps let you 'disable' them in the app details. Check if you can do that with this one.
Unjnstall it with titanium backup,

How did you figure out it was a battery drain,
Did it appear as a standalone app in the battery usage?
Or was it using betterbatterystats wakelocks analyzer or something more specific??

for me it appears in better battery stats as "MotoCare - com.motorola.motocare" and is usually the second biggest consumer at 13%.
I think you'r getting it wrong, it uses 13% not of the total battery but 13% of the percentagem used by the apps alone.
I got rid of the app and had no problems...

well, the important fact for me is that it is shown as the second biggest consumer...and if I don't need it, I don't see any use in having it eat battery, no matter what the exact percentage.

Going to give it a try too, I have been freezing some of Moto bloatware with TitaniumBackup, but missed this. Might be a good find, thanks.
Option "Disable" for this app is not active (in stock firmware). You may only "Clear data".
There are two MotoCare Apps (MotoCare 1.1 & MotoCareInt 1.0)
Does someone exactly know for what Motorola Services do we need these files ?
-> Ok, i found the Information at google : http://news.softpedia.com/news/Moto-Care-App-Gets-Updated-Now-Called-Motorola-Help-432827.shtml

I think I've found that this app is now called "Moto Help", although, com.motorola.motocare, still appears in system as a priv-app, and still sucks battery even after deleting Moto Help. So I decided to freeze it over after deleting data (apparently it colects information about how you use the phone)... I'm in the observation process right now, but it seems not to be affecting anything so far

UPDATE
... There's one thing affected. If you take a screenshot, image won't appear in notification panel and shutter sound is muted. Apparently it affects camera since it restarted when I opened it (after unfreezing com.motorola.motocare), as if it was used for the first time...

Anyone having problems with Google Location Service?
This affects several apps that uses Location Service such as Google Now and Maps.
When i go into google now it says "Location service is off". When i go into maps it says "Please enable a My Location source in system settings" even though all of my location settings are on.
Only if GPS turned on then Google Now and Maps work properly

Under Settings > Location, there are several options:
1. Google's Location Service
2. GPS Sattelites
3. Location & Google Search
4. Compass warning
I turn on 1, 3, and 4. Option 2 (GPS) is only required if you want more precise location if I'm not mistaken. The problem is that previously I don't need to turn Option 2 on for my Maps to be working.

Weird, those are the options you would need on for maps to work. That's what I use and I just have tasker turn on GPS when I open maps, however it works regardless if GPS is on or off. Maybe trying clearing app data from maps?

Exactly, glad to know that the problem is not on my device. Yes GPS works, but it drains battery faster.
I'm thinking of factory reset, but afraid that my battery calibration will lost and words that my swiftkey has learned will be gone.
What's the best way to do the backup? I just did my backup from the built in HTC Backup function to Dropbox. But I'm not sure that everything will be restored if I use it. Will it restore all apps, apps settings, photos, and contacts?

Because there is no viruses.
If you have balls to call some shady apps aka adware a viruse, you seriously have some problems.
Virus is not adware, and adware is not a viruse.
99% of situation like that, when someone whine "oh my god i have viruse on my phone!" Is because they installed or clicked on some crappy app made as a bait for people without basic knowledge of internet.

That is a bummer. I looked all through settings on mine and couldn't see anything that would affect. Good luck!

It doesn't seem to matter. I can tap anywhere and the icon will pop up on the right side.
For me some videos start out cropped, like some videos from Vevo. It says "Automatically adjusted to fit screen." Then you have to tap the screen to switch it back to normal. And others start out normal and you have to tap to crop.
