Hey there,
After upgrading windows 8 to 8.1, I cannot get my phone into fastboot. It seems that previously installed drivers on W8 are now gone.
Any idea how to fix this?

Install the drivers again.
I've had the same problem in windows 8.1... Fastboot device cannot be recognized by the system, but i don't know why; the problem was "Error enumerating device id". If you see hardware id, it doesn't exists and the driver won't be found. I returned to windows 7.

Mind if you shared a way of doing that?
Installing the official sony flashtool with its drivers didn't help + every other way I tried (that worked when I had 8) also resulted in failure.
PS:When I connect it in fastboot, windows says that "drivers malfunctioned, unknown USB device"

load wubi (windows ubuntu installer) over the link http://wiki.ubuntuusers.de/Wubi
than install ubuntu, on harddrive C:// and reboot your Pc
Now you have a linux in your current system, you can remove ubuntu (linux) in Programms & feautures list in windows.
now reboot reboot the system and isntall in ubuntu fastboot.
you musst give in the terminal sudo apt-get fastboot
and now you can flash your bootloader in linux.
but you musst sudo bevor you type fastboot flash type sudo fastboot flash boot boot.img
you say it is easy
gooogle wubi (windows ubuntu installer)
im here.. me too facing the same weird problem.
in 8.1 os it worked at first but then it didnt recognizing my device. reinstalled the 8.1 os and tested and same result. worked at first then fu**ed up again.
hope someone will get ride of this prob in 8.1ois :/
Same..
Exactly the same problem here. On windows 8, no issue. After updating to 8.1, "Error enumerating device id". I've tried everything, but nothing.
I had my xperia without kernel, and I REALLY needed Fastboot, so I had to go to a W7 pc, and no issue then.
Ohh, and I can't disable driver verification on W8.1 . When i'm in advanced boot menu, I just can't press any key. The keyboard doesn't work, and I have to Hard Reboot. Any idea?
EDITED
This worked for me : http://www.droid-now.com/2013/10/fix-working-fastboot-drivers-windows-8-1-x64/
So now I can use fastboot/ flashmode, but only if I connect the phone to an usb 3.0 port. On 2.0 the issue is still there.

As I see the only way to get access to fastboot and flash mode is to use windows 8 or lower.
Here is the cause of our problem and there is no solution so far: http://blogs.msdn.com/b/usbcoreblog...8-0-but-fail-on-windows-8-1-with-code-43.aspx
EDIT: I used the old XP machine of my parents to unlock the bootloader and everything worked fine
well w8.1 certainly cannot use fastboot if you plug it into USB 2.0 port..as microsoft has change it usb policies in w8.1, the only way to use fastboot in w8.1 is to plug into a USB 3.0 hub, and install your driver the same way before..

Hi guys, got a slight problem with entering fastboot mode. I hold the volume-up key and connect me USB cable but rather than getting the noise verifying it's been connected ok, I get that dull sound it makes when it hasn't worked. It won't even let me install the drivers and in device manager it comes up as "S1boot Fastboot" for a few seconds before then going into battery charging mode. I downloaded the Android SDK latest and replaced the USB driver INF file with the one sony give you but it didn't work so reversed back to the other driver the SDK manager installs and that didn't work either.
I've been through the tutorials and even tried to update the driver in device manager in the few seconds it stays there but that didn't work either! USB debugging is enabled too!
Please help, I'm not a noob and have done fastboot booting before and yes for those who may ask have already checked to make sure the bootloader can be unlocked and yes it can also the phone is NOT branded and is unlocked to all networks.
Any help will be appreciated, thanks!
Dave.
Are you on Windows 8? Using USB 3.0?
"As your flesh bears the sigil....your name is that....of a recusant."
First be sure you're using a 2.0 usb port, if this is ok maybe it's a windows 8 driver problem, so you should try this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2170114. It works for me
For also fastboot and flashmode come for 5 Sec. So Make sure you prepare the file and attach the device to fastboot or flashmode when it is asked.
Still problems
I'm still working on a 2012 laptop with Windows 7 Premium installed. It's fully up to date and all the drivers are installed properly I just don't get it, I've tried everything and it's still making the noise as if it won't connect. I don't know what to do to be honest. Also yes it is USB 2.0.

I have a similar problem. the power light lights up blue then passes into the phone starts loading mode
Sorry for bad English
The updated version (09.14) don't work properly. It doesn't enable me to go to Flashmode. Uninstalled and used the previous version and it worked as it should, no issues entering Flashmode.
i might have actually found the solution. im on the 4.3fw build version 12.1.a.1.201... in my case, my pc will automatically install the drivers for mass storage giving me no chance to update the driver to the one from sony.
you need to do step 9. and 10. if you havent done so from http://unlockbootloader.sonymobile.com/instructions
what i did was allow developer settings and allow debugging via usb.
plug in and attempt to go in to fastboot and obviously it'll fail.
go to device manager. (control panel->hardware and sound->device manager) quickly scroll down go to other devices. you will see s1fastboot (or something like that) if you're quick enough, if not, in my case, the phone will go in to charging mode.
what i did was to disable xperia sp mass storage from disk drives category too.
right click on it and select update driver software and you will select the file you've unzipped (following step 9 and 10 sony's instructions).
after it has finished updating, unplug your usb and attempt to enter fastboot, it should work.
PS: im no expert, this solution might be out there somewhere already or it could just be a great coincidence. some of these steps might not be useful even.
Had this problem and found a funny solution: I switched my cable and the port I was using. Both Ubuntu and Windoze 7 failed on both fastboot and flash mode, even though in both the phone would charge. I grabbed a spare micro USB cable and plugged it into the front of the PC; voila. Now the phone is rooted and running the latest CM.
Need a final solution for this problem
I don't know what to do!!! The problem is this, very similar to the others mentioned above,: When i conect my xperia sp to fastboot mode, pressing volume up while plugging in usb cable, the phone led turns to blue for few seconds and than it just turns to red showing on the screen the battery image( normal charging mode)...... I' m using windows xp and a rooted xperia sp whit cm11 (for locked bootloader obviously). Just two last things:
the phone can be unlocked( I checked it) and fastboot worked the same as now with stock xperia sp firmware.
Please i need a final and a certain solution for this problem!!!
i'll be very thankful to anyone who give me a hand!!!!

Are you trying to unlock your phone?
Have you installed device specific/fastboot/flashmode drivers via FlashTool? If you are on Windows 8/8.1, you need to disable driver verification to get it done.
Alternatively if you just wanna unlock your bootloader, you can use the BLU option in FlashTool. Again all drivers will need to be properly installed for your phone to be detected correctly.
You say you had the same problem with stock firmware which means you probably haven't setup adb/fastboot properly on your PC. Does your phone get detected correctly in Device Manager? Have you tried installing drivers via Device Manager?
....
So the solution is installing flashtool and installato drivers via Emma?? Thanks forma the attention!!

I meant install drivers via FlashTool. Go to C:\Flashtool\drivers or wherever you have installed Flashtool and run the Flashtool-drivers.exe.
Select flashmode drivers, fastboot drivers and common drivers viskan board (SP drivers) and install them. Like I said if you are on Win 8/8.1, you will have to disable driver signature enforcement. Just look it up in YouTube and follow a tutorial.

Hi,
This is how I got my HTC One to show Fastboot Usb when i plug it in to my PC.
First I downloaded and installed the latest java se development kit both 32 bit and 64 bit versions as I read somewere that we also need the 32 bit version for it to succeed on 64 bit. Next I installed the android sdk making sure that I had the latest available. After this I downloaded and installed the most up to date HTCDrivers 4.8.0.002.
I just rebooted my phone into bootloader unpluged to the computer then i pluged it in to show up as Fastboot USB.
I tried many different suggestions for getting fastboot to work with Win 8.1 x64 Usb 3.0, including those above in this thread.
Only one thing worked,

Remove Sonymobile drivers and reinstall them.
This should do the trick. I also advice you to restore your device on a Windows 7 machine. I am unable to restore mine on my Windows 8.1 machine and I have to use the one from my sister to restore my device.

- Connect phone in Fastboot (dont open flashtool) and let it install the drivers
- Reboot (last time) again
- After reboot, open Flashtool and connect phone in flashmode (dont do anything) and wait a few minutes. Via the log of Flashtool you should be able to see if the phone is connected properly and if the phone stays connected
- Try to flash a Stock ROM and see what happends
If above fails then you can try to use compatible mode (flashtool.exe > Rightmouse button > Properties > Compatible mode > Windows 7)

error 43 is a windows error. no amount of reinstalling drivers will work.
if your using a laptop, remove all USB devices, uninstall the drivers you are trying to fix, shut down the computer and remove the battery for 10 mins min.
if its a desktop, do the same thing, but pull out the kettle lead from the back, hit the power button a few times to drain the PSU caps.
restart the computer and plug in usb devices one at a time making sure they work properly.
re-install phone drivers, I recommend downloading HTC sync manager for the drivers (never had a problem with them) and then remove HTC sync.
failing that a windows re-install or driver cache cleaner is required or try a different computer.

The issue is with the newest version of windows. I haven't tried the Samsung drivers. What worked for me was making a live usb install of FWUL. Then I could boot from the USB and everything worked.
I have Windows 10 Ver 20H2 installed and can confirm I have gotten ADB and Fastboot drivers WORKING, following the original installation instructions from Razer. It's not very clear, but be SURE to EXTRACT the files AFTER downloading from Razer. Follow the instructions CAREFULLY. I can't tell you how many times I've had to go back and re-read the directions to get it right. I went so far as to reinstall Windows 10 v.1909 on an external drive and issued commands that way, as a work around. Today, I decided to take a chance, and got everything working again.

What errors are you seeing? No communication in fastboot mode? If so, your driver is not properly installed. Your phone MUST be in fastboot mode when installing the driver. If your phone is booted up, you;ll only be able to install the ADB driver.
Additionally, I should have gone back and edited this post. The issue I was facing "back then" was that I didn't follow the driver installation directions EXACTLY. It's a bit confusing, but if you follow it step-by-step, it'll get you there. Also DO NOT use a USB C to C cable or a USB-C port. USB-A 3.0 or slower is a must with this phone. Fastboot mode is VERY picky about which USB protocol and cable you use. Recently found this out with my Surface Pro7 and had to use a regular usb a-c cable going through a 4-port hub to communicate properly and get the correct fastboot driver to install.
so i turn off the phone. plug in to the pc, power on then volume down. i downloaded the drivers from the link, but if i trie to install the drivers(browse in the folder where thr driver is) windows says there are no drivers found for this device.

Open "device manager" with the phone in fastboot mode. Scroll down to "other devices" and you should see "Android" or something of that nature. Right click it and select "update driver" follow the steps on PG 3 of the PDF I sent you and follow them exactly. NOTE where it says to click "Have Disk". Most people click "Android Bootloader Interface" then click "NEXT" at the bottom, DON'T do that. You must click "Have Disk" and then follow the prompts that follow.
Also, did you make sure to set your "environment variables" in "windows adv. system settings? This is so windows knows where to find adb.exe and fastboot.exe to execute commands.

I'm having the same issue with my Sony Pro-I (just here scrounging the webs for clues in other forums)
Got adb to work but windows refuses to recognise my sony driver folder as a valid driver for the device. Did you get past this point or give up? If you solved the issue, what helped?

welp. I'll try getting the fastboot drivers to work on my win10 for a whoile longer, I only have one PC and installing win7 would be a huge pain jsut for rooting a device... ^^;
thanks for the swift reply anyhow. Will keep that as an option in mind.

Okay, simple mistake. Just had to follow the installation instructions more carefully, and not click "next" here, but go to a device list. I think this is where some of us think they know what they're doing and click forward

i tried on multiple windows 10 computers and mine just won't recognize, the driver just doesn't work. i tried on linux and i was able to get fastboot devices to recognize phone but when flashing, it just gets stuck on "sending boot", any ideas?
