[Q] Wakelock/com.sonyericsson.android? - Xperia Z1 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Can anyone tell me what this is?
My battery is draining too quickly with doing much on it.
Is this what's causing it? 2000+ times
Thanks!

Look at the top. Awake 11%. That's pretty good!!
It's com.sonyericsson.android.wakeup.apk I think. Something related to FastDormancy.apk
Is it always like that? Does it change continuously? It appeared with 200ish times for me yesterday and I investigated. I did however quickly notice it stayed on 200ish times, so I concluded it was correct in my case. Propably a quick roam or a cell tower which didn't support FastDormancy.

Oh.... so it's related to searching for signal?

No, not signal. Specifically FastDormancy. Google it.
This specific app "could" have other functions too but I think I'm right in my investigation. I have not seen it appear since yesterday either.

Voice cutting out on other end of call?

Is anyone experiencing this? A significant number of people over on the Android Central forum are experiencing their voices cutting out pretty frequently, especially when there's background noise. To clarify, the people on the other end of the line are saying that the person with Moto X's voice is intermittently dropping out.
Some are speculating that it's a problem with the noise cancelling software.

Yep, same problem here... It's all over the Motorola forums too, but they're talking about the Verizon edition. I told them that it happened on Rogers phones too.

That would suck. Mine's on the way but this would be a deal breaker for me if it's not fixed very soon.

Well, I think it'll be fixed by software at some point, apparently the bug isn't being exhibited when using voip apps (Skype, csipsimple, etc)...
Not having any of those problems
Motorola is aware of the problem and working on a fix:

Hey folks, we're adjusting echo cancellation parameters in the upcoming over-the-air (OTA) maintenance release. I am confirming that this should address the issues we're seeing here. Will post-back with confirmation shortly.

Allow me to be thanked. For cdma versions (VZ and rogers) go to phone then settings and disable voice privacy. First it's BS anyway since cdma to cell is digitized anyway with basic encryption. Second the 48key encryption method I think called is95 umm sucks! It's uses bandwidth on a network that has none and causes breakup and delay. It's an immediate night and day difference.

Thank you for that tip. I was so frustrated with my phone cutting out on the other end I was ready to throw this one in the trash. I exchanged my phone once already because of the call quality and I was on the verge of making the switch to another phone altogether.
Since turning off privacy I no longer have the issue. Thank you!

It doesn't matter because this doesn't fix anything. I'm on Verizon and every phone call I have people complain. I can tell they can't hear me, because I'm asking questions and they just sit there silent. Its really annoying. Especially since I shelled out $705 for a Developer Edition and I can't even use it for its main function.
I really hope Verizon pushes out this update soon.
Mine still does it...
Hey everyone, I know it's been a year since this thread has abruptly stopped (to which I credit an OTA update that fixed the voice cutting in and out issue)...but...I just bought a moto x and my phone is doing it. I have the latest OTA software, stock everything, and I pretty much have to yell for my voice to get above the noise cancellation level to be heard on the other end of the phone call. Interestingly enough, if I speak directly into the mic on the backside of the phone, I come through loud and clear.
I've tried the "voice privacy" setting to no avail. I've tested all (three!) of the mics with the phone's built-in "CQATest" app and can confirm that all three are working. I've spoken with motorola support, cleared my cache, did a full factory reset, and still no dice. Can anyone help?? I hate to send this thing back because I'm almost certain that it's a software issue and not a hardware issue.
Thanks in advance, this is frustrating!! If I don't get replies then I'll start a new thread, seeing as this one is old.
[edit] update: I got a replacement phone and everything works fine. Turns out it was the hardware. I have a suspicion that the used phone I bought had its screen replaced, and it messed up the noise-cancelling features of the mics.

Sittin here in a tmobile store, lookin at a display N5

Some of you may remember me havin some complaints about my n5 droppin searvice randomly. I was about to get an rma. Im glad i didnt.
I have tried everything to fix it. So last resort is to rma the device.
So, i was waitin in a tmobile store to pay my bill, and i started playin with a display nexus 5. Luckily, the phone was hooked up to their LTE network. So i got an idea and started a download. Low and behold guess what happens. The same EXACT thing my phone does.
And out of all irony the song "I want my money back, I want my money back" is playing in the store.
I dont think an rma is the solution here.

Never ever had this problem. Guess its because of your service provider. In your location the infrastructure of your service provider is propably not as good as you think.
as well as im not having such an issue with tmobile. but im in nyc, and tmobiles network in the area is fairly new and improved.
Hmm... I get a great lte signal all around town. Mostly 43mbps, when it works. I heard the n5 uses some new "low power lte" or somethin. Maybe they have issues with it here?

not really low power lte, but the newer lte radio that the n5 uses does do much better on battery than previous versions of lte.
I'm in Arizona with tmobile and I sometimes have my network drop maybe at least once a day.
No network drops in Vegas...
Definitely it's a N5 issue. I'm in Europe and I have this problem. I remember reading in forums about that when I bought my phone. As long as I was on 4.4.2 I never had a single issue. After updating on 4.4.4 I have network issues few times a day.

its called a network issue for a reason. its an issue with your network, not the device. i didnt have issues on on 44, 441, 442, 443, nor 444. network issues relate to your network.
Well if it is my network, how come when i lose the network, sometimes the phone will also reboot. Dont think thw network would cause that

just as your phone shouldnt be rebooting. so your "network issue" can be related to whatever you are running on your phone. that would be on the personal level, so id check into what i am running. my nexus 5 has never had an issue with rebooting.

Me neither. I'm running 4.4.4 stock unroofed unmodified and never had random reboots or network drop.

Reflash stock firmware, clean. Go a few days without any apps installed. This will show if its phone/network related, or app related.
If it still acts up on fresh install. Try someone elses Sim, preferably on another network. If it's OK... Then you've narrowed it down to your Sim, or again, you're network.
Process of elimination. ?
Same thing happens to me on AT&T. It has happened with 3 separate N5s and doesn't happen with my Moto X. Yeah, it's an N5 problem. The radio in this phone is garbage.

Called tmobile ten times, different radios, sim cards, pulled the sim for 5 mins, different roms, apns, Same exact problem every time. Did you not read my OP? Even the display model with nothing on it did the same exact thing. Maybe its a flawed design, where some phones have this problem, and others dont. Maybe its a combination of the phone and the network. I dont think well ever know

Stock. Every N5 I have owned has been stock, and all have had network dropping issues, and all have had difficulty maintaining LTE. No problems with my Moto X, none with my iPhone 5s when I had it, and none with any other LTE phone I've owned while on AT&T. Just the Nexus 5.

i think that you are the one actually not seeing the issue. your phone drops data, you watched the store phone lose data as well. your phone and that other is on the same network. it doesnt sound like a phone issue, it sounds as if its your local network that is having the issue.
It's a radio/network combo issue. I never had drops on the 4.4 radio. Since 4.4.1 and above, i get these network drops on a daily basis.
Go to your battery stats, look for cell standby and check the "time without a signal" percentage. I usually have 10-11% of my uptime.
I got fed up with this crap, so reverted earlier today to the 4.4 radio (1.0.25.0.17). Still too early to make any judgment.

High battery usage from cell standby even with good coverage

I am having high battery usage from cell standby. I'm not in a bad service area. The screen shot shows 0% time without service. Anybody else noticing this issue?

Time without a signal is at 0%. If it hit 20% or more, it'll affect your battery life negatively. I imagine when you took this screenshot, you probably only had 1-2 hours of screen time? Cell standby will be higher because, well, it was standing by.

Actually I had this too. I changed my APN to "phone" instead of "nxtgenphone" along with the other values associated with traditional ATT LTE under "phone". Fixed it right up, get fantastic battery now.
I'd seen this as well, getting high usage by "Cell Standby" even though my time without a signal is usually 0-1%. I'm on the Pure Edition version with T-Mobile though.
Second straight day that cell standby is using as much battery as screen. That's with currently 1.5 hours screen time.

Same here. Off charger for 20 hours at 11% with 2 hours screen time, and cell standby has had good signal all day, but shows as the same percentage as screen (17% each). Cell standby seems to eat way more battery than it did on my HTC One M8. Not sure why, but would love to have a fix because battery is barely acceptable on this phone - typically with any meaningful usage I am struggling to get through the day.
Same thing is happening to me, pure edition on AT&T

Can you give more details about what you changed about your APNs? Did you revert to an older version or just an alternate version? Any more info would be helpful. I don't know what "phone" vs "nxtgenphone" mean since I've never had an AT&T device, but I am familiar with USCC APNs.

I hardly think 16% is high. Mine is usually higher than that and I still get over a days worth of battery. Something has to be using the battery, even when you arent using the phone.

It is high. Check against any other device with similar usage patterns and you'll see standby around 5%-10%. The radios are definitely using more power in this device than others.

Yes it's a radio on standby that uses 20% if the battery. Yes I realize that number is relative. But if at the end of the day my battery is completely dead and cell standby use 20% then that's 20% . Maybe you are okay with you phone wasting you battery, but I get a little aggravated. Cell standby was a battery drain in some of the early android phones and it was an actual bug.
I read somewhere that the pure edition will get an update to enable a few more LTE bands, could this possibly help with the cell stand by?

Could they do something else at the same time to improve it? Possibly. But adding LTE bands by itself wouldn't make the radios use less power.

XP Automatically Resetting On Its Own

In the last few days I've noticed that when turning on my screen that I'm forced to put in my PIN, which it says it always does after a reboot/startup. But I didn't reboot the phone myself.
Has anyone else noticed this? I wonder if this has anything to do with the Contacts app issue for int'l XP phones using a T-Mobile SIM card, or something else? It may just be that an app I have was malfunctioning (I did have issues with Chrome earlier right before this new auto reboot occurred), and that's what may have caused it.
Please let me know what you think. Also, PLEASE mention in your post which carrier you have, and also which region you got your phone from. For example, my int'l XP is from Hong Kong, so on the box there's a "ZH", which I guess is the Hong Kong version. You may also have an "HK" too. The Taiwan one says "TW" I believe.
Thanks!
Haven't experienced this issue. I'm using an x performance f8132 hk version.
I just experienced this for the first time yesterday. I updated Playstation Video, which now has the ability to download purchased content. I was downloading my movies to my SD card (35 of them) and the phone rebooted several times. It hasn't happened since. I'm on AT&T with a HK sourced device. I'm thinking this app update may have been causing my problem. I'll follow up in the next few days if I experience any other reboots.

Hey Augie,
Hmm ok. You might be right!
I thought it was because I was using one of those apps that lets you enable "Night Vision" for easier nighttime reading. Some kind of issue with the "screen overlay". So I disabled "screen overlay" for that app and SO FAR it's been fine. You wouldn't happen to have an app like that would you (i.e. Blue Light Filter For Eye Care, Lux, etc)??
I didn't use Playstation app. Just disabled it actually, so I don't know if your problem and mine was the same? Mine would just reboot randomly, never repeatedly over and over at the same time.
Yeah mine is from Hong Kong too. Says ZH on the side, but I believe someone on here said that's still China.
Yes please do. I will too on Monday.
Thanks!!
No screen overlays here. I've used the phone for all kinds of things today without replicating the problem. I'm guessing a certain amount of non-response time from something running triggers a reset. I'll report if it reoccurs.

Augie,
Ok. That's good. I had also cleared not all the caches for all my apps but the "preferences", which is a setting in Apps menu in Settings. Then I rebooted. Not sure if that helped but I think for me it was the Screen Overlay issue. But it COULD'VE also been Playstation for all I know? Then again, this had been happening for last 3-5 days, so if Playstation app update just came in yesterday, then I doubt it was that.
Thanks! Please do. I will too on Monday.
I have not experienced random reboots yet. They could happen from battery saving apps like 360 though

I uninstalled 360 from my phone several days ago as even though it worked on the Z5 and Z3 (and initially it SEEMED to work on my 1st XP), I can see it no longer is working on the XP, so it's not that.
Since clearing all the preferences on all the apps and also disabling the screen overlay on my one "night vision" app, the problem has so far not reoccurred any more (knock on wood!). I am trying out a different app very similar to 360 though on my phone called Hibernation Manager. I'm going to test it tonight/overnight to see how it does, and will report here tomorrow. I'm not holding my breath, but can't hurt to try it. Earlier today I gave it a good 2 hours and the percentage stayed the same during that time (100%), so there's potential I guess.
Update: Forget what I said above. See this updated post instead.

Yeah Hibernation Master didn't work either. Greenify says it will only work automatically if I remove my fingerprint security and use "pull-up gesture" to unlock the phone. No thanks. lol Not sure what other good apps are out there that would work?
It's now been 2 days since I cleared the preferences of all my apps and turned off that Screen Overlay on that "night vision" app I had, and SO FAR (again knock on wood lol) it's been working fine. If by Monday it's still fine, I will consider this case (and thread) closed. lol

I would, but new Stamina Mode is completely non-customizable. Old SM would let you set it up so it only works when the screen is off. But this new one is "all or none". No thanks. Don't want my phone slowing down, even to save battery life. Then I might as well have bought the XA. lol

Great.......so it restarted again about 20 minutes ago. I go to unlock screen and it says PIN required after startup. I had NOT restarted it since this morning.
What do you guys think? I was thinking about e-mailing the Amazon seller (NGP) and seeing if they have any Taiwanese models (TW) available. Was thinking maybe this had something to do with the stupid T-Mobile SIM stock Contacts app issue.

You're saying it went to the gray screen where you enter pin on phone start up?

The lock screen is after start up. You're talking about the gray screen before the xperia boot logo?

Why is my phone always hot?

Title pretty much says it all. Slapped on my Dbrand today so I really notice it more. My phone is always hot. I don't game or do anything CPU intensive. Anyone know a way to identify the issue? Is it an app or is it the phone. Anyone else find their phone unusually warm?

Are you using or while it's charging? Also how covered is your phone while using it? Using it outside in direct sunlight?
Mine doesn't even get warm while using it. In direct sunlight it does get a little warm.

Negative on the using while charging. Sometimes I jump in and out of apps and it gets super hot out of the blue. But after I posted the question I did a power cycle and it been ok ever since. That's why I was asking if there was an app I cod use to find what's causing the issue.

I do. Just popped my SD card in. How do you think it's related. Should I format it and start fresh?
i have the same problem in my Exynos Note 9 , and i have SD Card too . i need a solution
I don't have any heating issues, the most heat I felt during playing Fortnite but that wasn't hot just kind of warm. Usually the phone does not even get lukewarm at all even during most games. I have the Exynos variant. Maybe a factory reset could solve the warming issue, but before try the Accubattery app, that might tell you what causing the issue because probably one app is draining the battery.

I found my previous note series devices always got hot when SD card was inserted or removed initially. This time around I inmounted it using the option in settings and then put it inside my new note. Also I heard faulty or fake sd cards can cause issues like this .
