I am having high battery usage from cell standby. I'm not in a bad service area. The screen shot shows 0% time without service. Anybody else noticing this issue?
Yeah seeing the same today. Second to screen in battery listing.

Time without a signal is at 0%. If it hit 20% or more, it'll affect your battery life negatively. I imagine when you took this screenshot, you probably only had 1-2 hours of screen time? Cell standby will be higher because, well, it was standing by.

Actually I had this too. I changed my APN to "phone" instead of "nxtgenphone" along with the other values associated with traditional ATT LTE under "phone". Fixed it right up, get fantastic battery now.
I'd seen this as well, getting high usage by "Cell Standby" even though my time without a signal is usually 0-1%. I'm on the Pure Edition version with T-Mobile though.
Second straight day that cell standby is using as much battery as screen. That's with currently 1.5 hours screen time.

Same here. Off charger for 20 hours at 11% with 2 hours screen time, and cell standby has had good signal all day, but shows as the same percentage as screen (17% each). Cell standby seems to eat way more battery than it did on my HTC One M8. Not sure why, but would love to have a fix because battery is barely acceptable on this phone - typically with any meaningful usage I am struggling to get through the day.
Same thing is happening to me, pure edition on AT&T

Can you give more details about what you changed about your APNs? Did you revert to an older version or just an alternate version? Any more info would be helpful. I don't know what "phone" vs "nxtgenphone" mean since I've never had an AT&T device, but I am familiar with USCC APNs.

It came with one named nxtgenphone.. I'm not familiar with what they actually are either, but I changed it to phone which I used on my Nexus 5.

I hardly think 16% is high. Mine is usually higher than that and I still get over a days worth of battery. Something has to be using the battery, even when you arent using the phone.

It is high. Check against any other device with similar usage patterns and you'll see standby around 5%-10%. The radios are definitely using more power in this device than others.

It does look bad in the battery menu but after I enabled ART I got a dramatic change in battery life. It's hard not to think about what's using it, mine lasts more than a full day though, even with 20% no service time.

Imagine what you would get without the unnecessary radio drain. Just because you are getting acceptable battery life doesn't mean there are no issues.

Yes it's a radio on standby that uses 20% if the battery. Yes I realize that number is relative. But if at the end of the day my battery is completely dead and cell standby use 20% then that's 20% . Maybe you are okay with you phone wasting you battery, but I get a little aggravated. Cell standby was a battery drain in some of the early android phones and it was an actual bug.
I read somewhere that the pure edition will get an update to enable a few more LTE bands, could this possibly help with the cell stand by?

Could they do something else at the same time to improve it? Possibly. But adding LTE bands by itself wouldn't make the radios use less power.

I was wondering if anyone has spotted a extended battery for the magic/ion yet? I should be getting my Ion any day and I'd love to have one. I've found no useful results on google.
The device is only a few weeks old, so don't expect to see one for maybe another month or 2.
Actually now that I have had time to play with my Ion; It gets better battery life than what my G1 did with my extended 2600mah Innocell battery. I can't believe the difference. This is what the G1 should have been.

True that, if I was just making some calls or text messaging i wouldn't need to charge it for at least a couple of days. Some occassions, for example hiking, I tend to leave GPS on all day to record my tracks as well as access some data apps here and there, which I notice the data usage is usually the one to blame that drains the battery fairly quickly. If a bigger battery could rest assure that would be awesome.
The thing with owning a phone like the magic, is that you don't want to stick to just a few calls and texts, when you have so much more at your disposal. Otherwise I would have stuck with my old Nokia and only charged it once every several days.

Exactly, my Sony Ericsson C902 normaly lasts from mon-fri no problem with texting and calling.
With a phone like the magic you do want to make most out of it, and mine normally gives me a full day of continous use. Originally i only used to get half a day as i hammerd it but a few good tweaks make a MASSIVE difference.
- get a brightness widget and just adjust it as required. i have it at 40%.
- get an over clocking app and underclock it when screen is off or having less use. (root needed)
- get a task killer, apps runing in background can drain it too. Well they seem to. (root needed).
Anyway, whats the update on the new battery Gimpeh mate.

It shipped monday with expedited shipping. Keep in mind it is coming from China. I've been using the donation version of Advance Task Manager forever now. Whats the difference between that and Task Killer? I've looked at the description and it appears the same. I wish one of these could be set to auto kill apps that start up. Throughout the day I'll open up task manager only to see that Foobook and a few others are idling again after killing them earlier in the day. Annoyances!
No real difference really, just that task killer has a widget aswell that shows number of apps running and upon clicking it, it kills everything.
I only went over to tasKiller as the advanced task manager app expired.

Damn! Looks like I'll be getting the 3650 now. Anyone want a 2500?
Hi guys,
this is my first post on this board, so i want greet all first.
Looking on the mugen power site, I've realized that with 2600mAh or 3650mAh extended battery you are force to change the battery covery due the size of the battery, and also your phone will become much ticker, it's right?
While I'm pretty happy with the stock Magic battery, looking on the mugen power site i have seen that 1550mAh extended battery doesn't require a cover battery change, so i would be happy to give it a try and mantain the thin shape of the Magic. Anyone can confirm me that the 1550mAh battery doesn't require a cover battery change?
Last question i'm in Italy and i hasn't been able to uderstand where this company is located on both about us and customer service there is some dummy text ,and there are no information on the contact page. The only information that i have is that domain is registred to an'Hungarian man.
So in few word is this site trustable? anyone here has experiece with this battery? They ship from Europe North America or Asia?
Sorry for all this question, but about a month ago the local national tv reported the case of a woman which changed the battery of his phone whith a chinese one, and the phone/battery exploded in her hands.
Thanks all in advance
im gonna take my thrill back today and get a new one! I am having trouble with the battery as many people are but I dont know if it is worse than others. I unhooked it a few minutes ago and it went from 99 percent down to 90 in about 3-4 minutes and down to 80 in another 10 minutes and im not even sure what is running in the background because I thought I had an app killer installed. anyway the other problem is that I cannot get an internet connection at all unless I am on wifi. I have unlimited data and should be able to use programs like facebook even at the university but I cannot. Does anyone think I am doing the right thing by returning the phone? sorry about the long rant
Sounds like you have a bad battery. When I first got my Nexus S I had the same problem replaced that battery through att and it has been fine ever since. Also I have noticed that some task killers cant remember witch ones in specific hurt battery life. I would take it back for a new one may as well replace the whole device if you can.

A note on the battery issue? What's the signal strength like where you live? The data signal in my house is so bad that if I forget to turn wifi on after getting home from work my battery will drain close to 40% over night. My wife's Captivate does the same thing. If the signal is weak the phone will constantly poll for a stronger signal.
All that aside I would definitely still take advantage and seek a replacement while its free. If you still have issues atleadt you'll know its something correctable and not the phone.

I just got an LG Optimus 2x from Wind and after *thwip*-ing the screen left and right for several hours, it came to my attention that smartphones can do a lot more than simply sliding the screen horizontally. They can do it vertically too. So after several more hours of that and 11 minutes of porn later, I decided I wanted to root this thing. Burying it in soil and sprinkling water on it didn't work for some reason so I questioned the almighty Google - it led me here.
My phone has Froyo 2.2 (I think?) and I want to gain root permissions and upgrade to CM7. At least that's what I was told on Youtube, dude named analcobra said I want CM7 and who am I to question a guy named analcobra?
Any help is appreciated, I'll post a pic of my tits in return.

i wish i could help you root your phone etc, but i have only just got the o2x myself , did have previous phones but each phone has a different way of getting root etc,
Just download superoneclick, follow instructions, root, download rom manager off android market to flash a recovery image, download cm7 to the root of your sdcard, reboot into recovery and flash cm7 the end, tits please?

Dude, you're funny.
Congrats to both of you for your new toys and welcome to XDA.
My personal recommendation, is to read around, stay at stock for a week. Root it maybe, stay for another week or 2, before choosing the ROM that you want to try first.
Staying on stock with all LG crapware and stuff will allow you to:
1) Know if there are any hardware issues your phone might have which should prompt you to return it to the store.
2) Allow you to appreciate rooting and custom ROMs better.
I also recommend lurking on the Android development threads and back reading maybe 5 pages of the more active threads. That way, you'll know what the pros and cons of each ROM is. And you'll know what you'll get yourself into after flashing. (So you don't cry out that you don't have FM radio when you just flashed an ICS ROM.)
My immediate recommendations for 1st time CyanogenMod flashers would be Temasek's CM7 of course. As it is a very active thread, and support is definitely abundant.
Anyway, adjust your LCD brightness, and prepare to read stuff.
Above all, have fun.

However, keep in mind that your device is not an O2X(P990) but a G2X(P999), so to prevent yourself from some hassle(bricking your phone, etc.), check the T-Mobile G2X thread.

Thanks, probably would have missed that.
Also, what's with the battery on this thing? I switched my phone off last night (at 62%) and when I turned it on this morning, it was at 25%. Is it supposed to lose that much power even while it's turned off, or do I just have a faulty device?[/color]
Damn, that's bad. Is it a new phone? I only lose 3-4 percent a night when it's not even turned off (just the screen). But I can imagine it's the fault of the original LG ****ware, I had to install it a week ago because I bricked my phone, and after 2 minutes of the CLEAN install it was already lagging heavily.

How new is your phone? You might just need to drain the batt, then charge it to full.
If it still happens, something's wrong with your phone. Take it back to the shop.
Stock froyo roms only use 1% of battery on idle. (2g network use only. No wifi or gps.)

The phone's brand new, I got it like two days ago. The battery was already really low when I got it so I let it die and then charged it back up to like 90% before unplugging it. I'll drain it, charge it again, and then see how things go before returning it I guess. It lost 1% (with the screen turned) off in the last 12 minutes. D:
I don't have a data plan on this (aside from the free 100mb that comes with Wind25) so I had Wind disable the data on it. I also turned off the wifi before turning the phone off last night because I thought it'd save power. Would that have anything to do with it or is my inner noob showing?

Yes. Turning off wifi if you're not going to use it would help.
Having an enabled wifi either:
1) Keeps searching for networks that it can connect to
2) Once connected, will background sync/update certain apps. (i.e. Google Play)
I just noticed that if I do things that are supposed to conserve battery power, they use up more. Switching to 2g only, turning off wifi, etc. I lost 5% in one hour doing that, but when I turned everything back on, I only lost 1% in one hour.
In any case, the battery seems to be doing a little better than yesterday, maybe I just have to drain/charge it a few more times to sort it out? Has anyone else ever had similar problems before?
Gavin, I'm a new smart phone user too and have the same phone from windmobile and the first thing I noticed about the phone was how quickly the battery can drain. I thought it was defective or something but no, that's how it is. Mine would be dead from a full charge in less than 14 hours and that's without any usage, which is shocking and made me consider cancelling my plan. I do have data running however. Anyway, there are a bunch of apps available that can preserve the battery life. I've tried 3 or 4 and the last one (just found it 2 days ago from the Play Store) is the best by far. It's called "battery defender". I fully charged my phone yesterday and after a whole day (24 hrs) I checked the battery status and it showed 90% left (the app adds a battery icon that shows % left). Pretty damn good for a phone that used to be dead in less than 14 hours. I'm extremely happy. You can also try "juice defender" (the first app I tried) but that will probably give you 2 1/2 days on a full charge, which isn't bad.
BTW, draining and charging the batt won't do much if anything at all and in fact it ISN'T recommended that you let it drain below 20%.
Check out those apps and download one. They're free and they DO work. Also, get yourself a car batt charger too and maybe an extra battery.

No need to repeat cycling the battery. You can maybe do it once every 2 months and that's plenty for Lithium Ions.
Electroman is right. Optimum charging cycles go rom discharging only to 20%, then charging back up to 80%. And repeat.
About your battery being worse when you actually disabled your network stuff. I'm thinking you have apps or widgets that are configured to update every so often. And with the network out, they keep on refreshing themselves.
I personally didn't see huge gains from Juice Defender, but those batt saving apps are definitely worth a try.
Wonder if wind is putting any dodgy apps on the phone that use battery up?

Cuz the voltage gets high and reduces the life of the battery. Sort of an increase in MAH at the risk of overcharging and slowly killing the battery. 20-80% is ideal but **** that!

Hi,
After seeing reports of everyone's awesome battery life, mine seems terrible - it will only last about 12 hours with 2 hours screen on time, just Web browsing and listening to music really. I noticed my signal strength seems poor most of the time, but I have been in rural locations so that isn't necessarily unexpected.
I bought the phone from Fido (Rogers) but unlocked it to use on koodo, that shouldn't make a difference should it?
I'm thinking of sending it for repair /replacement but I really don't want to as my fall back phone is a pos Galaxy Ace II. There shouldn't be much crap running in the background and I've tried a factory reset so I'm not sure what else to do?
Return it.

OK here are some screens. The signal is terrible for a lot of it but that doesn't seem to be the problem, just that it doesn't have enough juice.
I probably will return it, which is going to suck. It's an awesome phone otherwise.
I'm using an unlocked Rogers Moto X with Koodo. Having great battery life for the most part. I do find its better running 4.4 (using the AT&T 4.4 release) however to install it you would need to unlock your bootloader which voids the warranty. Cycle the battery another day or two, if that makes no difference then the battery may in fact be bad.

Cycle the battery another day or two, if that makes no difference then the battery may in fact be bad.

I would like to install 4.4, but as you said it will screw me over unfortunately. I've had the phone 2+ weeks now, I've only just got home to do anything about it so it should have had plenty of time to settle in. Looks like a trip to Fido is in order!

OK here are some screens. The signal is terrible for a lot of it but that doesn't seem to be the problem, just that it doesn't have enough juice.
I probably will return it, which is going to suck. It's an awesome phone otherwise.

You surely should return it, mine lasts much longer with harder use
Do you have root? Try this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2432729&highlight=freeze
The install better battery stats or gsam and try to figure it out. If you're running up to the end of your return period, then I guess you should exchange it.
I don't believe that phones have "bad" battery life; you just have to find out what's cause the problem in your particular case.
I am getting similar results all of a sudden. Stock not rooted. I get about 2 hours of screen on time with about 13 hours uptime
Do [either of] you have location reporting on? Look at notro's screenshots, those consistent wake blue slivers "look" like location reporting...
I'm also getting results like these. I got this phone on Craigslist, so I don't know exactly how to go about returning it. I was thinking about sending it back to Motorola since the phone is still under the 1 year warranty. I tried chatting online with Motorola customer service, but they just gave me some tips on how to improve battery life. Any ideas? Thanks.

Post #11 is correct, turn off google location reporting. Turned mine off 2 days ago and the battery is back to where it was with 4.2

i suggest you to buy it from official samsung service centre or smartphone hub as these sellers in ebay etc are not trustworthy as far as genuine ness of the battery goes

Just keep in mind one thing, size of battery = capacity

No, exactly the same size as the original battery. As well as power capacity is much longer than the original. As the name implies double power battery.

I got it at the center of a special trading centers Mobile and accessories in the country's capital, Jakarta. But now if you want to look on google, there seems to have its online sales. You can look it up on google. But I cannot be sure whether it is available for sale online at your place. I'm sorry for it.

Woa 3000 mAh?
You should post battery backup usage later on
Curious on how long it'll last on continuous 3G usage
I only got about 2 hours max, or almost 2h30mins if I limit the cpu freq on stock battery

Mmmmh ... I guess my daily battery usage is quite stable. I recall with regular activity my internet (3G mode) without wifi and without the use of phone and sms as needed. I can reach as much as one and a half the day more. Unlike during the original battery, I only get a day time use only 8 hours.
Note: on average every two hours once in 24 hours using the internet. and my mobile data is off continuously. And Yes, I do a bit of overclocking to 1.15 GHz
Maybe next time I'll show you.

Yes, that's my daily use, senior. I use it all-saving mode. And while all-round needs to be, and even then did not have many hours I think. Because I'm always support energy-efficient world. The important thing is I do not have to lose until significant moments, when having to deal with a job that requires me to connect to the internet. To call and sms I have a separate number for it. So my device is specifically for work-related activities, hobbies (not games) that must be connected to the internet only.
