You could always try Mobile Backup & Restore by Trend Micro (in the Play Store). You get 50MB free. It lets you back up Contacts, Call Lists, Calendar, SMS, SMS History, Pictures, Music & Video. Obviously Pictures, Music and Video will eat well into that free 50MB allowance, so you can deselect them to be backed up.
I went for it because I wanted to back up my text messages from my S2 before going onto the S3. I also backed up my contacts and calendar, but didn't need to as my Gmail account took care of that.
Thanks Carbon (now called Helium) will only backup device and not sync with outlook, same with titanium both really useful though especially titanium. I tried my phone explorer it syncs well, quite powerful, safe to use?

What do I WANT it for, exactly?
Secondly, I just want to backup my contacts because Google Sync won't Sync my contact photos. I want my contact photos to save. Do I... backup the contact app?
Tibo is for flash junkies who like to flash roms like crazy It basicly restores your apps without loosing any data. My google sync works fine It saves Pictures with contacts.
I personally don't like to backup becouse for some reason when you update those aps that were restore dont work or it downloads and hangs. But to each its own.

I just want my contact pictures to save to my contacts, and for my contacts to be saved to Google.
To backup your contacts to your phone you could just click menu from the contact list and select export.
To backup them with google you just have to select the option Sync Contacts under Settings -> Accounts & Sync -> your gmail account
it is usually selected by default though...
after that, wait for it to sync and check your google account from your computer and go to contacts to check if they are there
the pics are backed up as well; they will not show on the contact list on your gmail account, but click on a contact and it will show you the picture
just as easy as that, if you flash/change/etc your phone, when you put your google account afterwards it will download all your contacts with their pics from google

It's never synced with my account. Never.
I have a video for this please check out my thread...

From what I can tell google does not sync a contact if it dies not have and email address. If I am wrong can someone tell me how to do it/ I have created contacts under google on my phone that do not have emails and they do not show up in my Google contacts on my computer. Google does not sync any of your "Phone contacts", at least not on my phone
Try going into Settings -> Accounts & Sync -> your gmail account again and this time press the menu button and click Sync Now.
Thanks! I tried but it did not work.
Something is wrong with your phone. On mine, every contact entry that I made on the phone shows up on my gmail contact list. Some don't have email addresses at all.
you could also try to make a backup by exporting the contacts, flash a new rom and try to sync again
are you on stock or on a custom rom?

I am confused. Why would I need Google Contacts to Sync?
I have no Google Contacts. I copied all my SIM Contacts to my Phone. From there on out, how to make them Google Contacts, I'm at a loss.
I don't need my Google contacts to sync since they sync fine. It is the contacts that are saved to my phone that will not sync to google. I do not want to backup my contacts to the sim card since some of them have multiple #s. When you backup to the sim card each phone number under one contact is saved as an individual contact giving you multiple entries for one contact. My phone is still stock. I did a master reset to see if it would help with the shutdown issue, which by the way, did not help. It just created problems with all my contacts. Some were lost and others now have the wrong numbers associated with them. The only contacts that stayed the same were the Google contacts. The phone contacts were all messed up. I plan on getting the phone replaced under warranty and don't want to go through the headache of having to redo all the phone contacts again.
Just looking for a way to completely backup a stock phone. AT&T address book is useless now because of the JH7 update.
well...since we now have WP7 added to the game, I think a software or a method to transfer contacts, messages, email accounts etc...between android and WP7 (and WM 6.5x if possible too) is necessary, so we can freely move between all these OSes or using more than one at the same time (personally, I'll go with WP7 on NAND and android on SD best of both worlds)
I'm not a software dev so I can't do it, but I'm ready to donate for a software/service like that and I think many of you will agree with me
If you want to keep your contacts synchronized between two OSes then i would recommend that you use your gmail you are able to sync contacts fro mgmail with both android and wp7
On another note: you are not able to run WP7 of NAND AND android from the SD card at the same time, as the way android ran from SD before was through a emulator for windows mobile.

yup I know gmail can sync contacts, I can even copy them to the SIM card. the main concern here is SMS messages
lol I didn't mean AT the same time of course but now we can boot android from SD card right from MAGLDR so I can choose to boot either this or that
I'm afraid that Syncing SMS messages between the 2 different OS may not be possible.
I agree with Hojlind about GMail though. This is how I synced my contacts/calendar to and from WM and Android. Instantly updates the calendar and contacts on both OS's.

yea I know, what i meant is using a 3rd party app (a version for android and another for WP7 to backup/restore SMS back and forth) or a dedicated online service or something like that
I'm afraid there is none at the moment. I would love to see an app restore/backup sms to the gmail as this is what I am having on the android. If that can be achieved then I can switch freely between the 2 OS without worries
hi all
is there any program in wp7 that can import vcf (outlook contacts) into cell phone?
I mean direct import without any internet service.
No Direct Import.
You can email the vcf file to yourself. Other than that, you can copy the vcf to your pictures folder, gain access by following the steps here.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=915664
Then install Touch Xplorer and move the file from pictures to the documents folder. from there go to Office ..... open the file, Any way something like that.
Your best bet,
Connect your phone using wifi, email the file to yourself as an attachment.

For Contact, calendar and E-mail i use Gmail
For SMS:
In Android install "sms-backup" app, this will back-up all your SMS to your Gmail account under a SMS label in your mail. This label can be accessed within the mail application of WP7.
Hope this helps
It seems that SMSSyncUp <forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=625378> has done the first half of the job by sync WM 6.5 SMS to gmail.
Could anyone programme the second half? I tried some Android programmes (e.g. SMS Backup +) which sync Android SMS with gmail, but the data aren't compatible...

but i want to save them as normal SMS, that can be forwarded and so on...
It would be cool, if we can put the sms to our sim cards. together with dual boot with android, it sounds ... nice

How I can move to my contacts Windows Mobile 7?
I'm using HTC TP2 but I also have HD7 which I don't use because I can't move contacts, text msg, etc, due to lack of MyPhone app for WP7
After MS shuts down MyPhone service, all the content will be moved to SkyDrive service.
Once this happens is there any way to move contacts texts, pics etc. from SkyDrive (Windows Live?) to HD7?
Thanks

SMS/texts cannot be restored or backed up (yet) on Windows Phone 7. Period.
Your contacts will be converted to a CSV file, which you can download and manually import using Windows Live Hotmail, or Gmail, or many other e-mail services. Then just sync it with your phone.
Pictures, videos, music, can be downloaded to your PC and sync'd to your phone via Zune. Windows Phone will also automatically recognize any picture folders on your SkyDrive and they can be displayed through the Pictures hub if your Windows Live ID is linked to the phone. Alternatively, once the Windows Phone Mango update comes out, there will be a built in way to access your SkyDrive files through the phone.
Office documents can be e-mailed to yourself, or stored on your SkyDrive for access from the WP7 browser (until Mango).
Favorites cannot be backed up or restored to Windows Phone 7 (yet).
Calendar items will be converted to an ICS file that you can import into many different calendar services, then sync that service with the phone.
Note that the document detailing the My Phone service shutdown says that not all data will be migrated over. Only contacts, text messages, calendar items and photos. The rest you must backup yourself.
When you say yet do you mean that it will be possible inn the mango update?

I say yet because it may be possible in any future update. In Mango, I don't see the ability, but I'm not going to say it will never happen, just a matter of when.
It seems that my contacts and text messages are not synchronized with the SkyDrive account.
My phone is based on WM 6.5.3 and I would like to preserve my contacts for future phones.
Do you know why the synchronization does not work?

Where are your contacts currently stored? Depending on where they are stored, there are a few options.
- If they are stored on the phone, you can connect the phone to your PC and use Microsoft Outlook to sync your contacts to your PC so you can use them in the future. You can also use the Windows Live app on the phone to sync your contacts back and forth to your Hotmail account, though this sometimes does not always work as intended and may end up erasing your on-phone contacts to replace them with the ones in your Hotmail account.
- Your contacts should have been backed up to a .csv file before the service stopped. You can use this file to import into other e-mail/contact applications (such as Outlook, Gmail, Hotmail, etc.).

Thank you for your reply. I appreciate it.
The interesting fact is that they are stored in my MyPhone account. I use the same Live account for SkyDrive and it is empty.
In the attached screenshot, I show that my account is not empty, but in the skydrive.live.com address I have nothing

Hmm. Can you still see your contacts and items in the MyPhone website? If you can, are you able to export your contacts to a file or something?
Also, I believe the service is no longer active, so your contacts should still be on the phone if you sync'd it. If they still show up in your contact list, then you should be able to sync it with your PC and Outlook, or use Windows Live or even another Exchange server to sync your contacts.
Otherwise, it's been a long time since I've used the MyPhone website, so I have no idea what features it has now. You may have to e-mail support and see if they can assist you.
Hello,
Yes, I am able to see them on my side (all messages and contacts), but since the service is down, the MyPhone application cannot create a connection to the server, and I am afraid that I will lose my items soon
I will try to contact with Support.
Thank you
Back in the day when I had windows mobile, I had a program that synced my text messages, picture mail (sprint mms) and call logs to Outlook. When I upgraded to Outlook 2007 and this app ceased to function, I found a backup program that I could schedule to run each night that would backup these items to the SD card, retaining 3 days worth of backups on the card. If I forgot to restore them when I wiped, no problem the backup program could add only the new or missing ones back to the device. I would like to find a way to backup the same way with Android, does anyone know of anything like this for Android? :cyclops:

for contacts and pics you can sync with your google account.
For messages you can use sms backup & restore.
I think there is no way to sync with outlook atm.

Yes you can set schedule backup to SD card for SMS, MMS, and call log(and much more) with Titanium backup, with flexibility to select frequency as well number of backup.
Read 'How to keep device backup up-to-date' on my signature.
dr. ketan, does Titanium Backup offer the flexibility to backup the entire phone (ROM, application programs, data, pictures, videos, etc.)? Thanks in advance for your reply.
No, TB can't backup ROM/Kernel or Pictures/Video.. TB can backup application(system and user) and data of application. It needs root to backup system app and data of app(syst/user)
ROM/Kernel can be backup by Nandroid.
Use sms backup+ to backup & restore all your messages, MMS, Contacts, Call logs to your Gmail account(s). It;s Freeware.

Any idea how to get back one of my contacts (there might be more) that just vanished the other day?
log on to contacts.google.com, from there you can restore previous versions of your contacts, make backup of current ones and export them too.
Ta. Will try that. Syncing my contacts didn't restore it.

Syncing doesn't restore contacts. It just sync it with Google servers and updates it as per changes on your phone.
Sent from my OnePlus3T using XDA Labs
Still don't understand why it disapeard
The usual explanation for contacts vanishing usually is when user deletes a sync service like an Exchange/Office 365 account and one or a couple of contacts exist in this realm making you "lose" them when account is no longer in the phone. But if the contacts where Google contacts that vanished it does sound strange to me if the vanish without some app interfering with these contacts, maybe..
It was a Google contact so no. Have reimported him now.
You can try this app https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=vjayraj.deletedcontacts it worked for me in the situation that i deleted a contact then wanted to restore it
