Honestly, how are you guys that are using the Nexus S without a case doing it without dropping the phone?
I have thought of using it naked many times and I take it out of the case for a while and every time I handle it I'm scared I'll drop it. It's so slippery. Even with an invisible shield type protector on the back... It seems that it is inevitable that the phone will be dropped and it doesn't feel like it will take a good fall very well.
Maybe you're not really using it without a case.. maybe its out of the case at work on the desk but in a case while you're out and about?
The only thing iv had on my nexus since day one was a screen protector and that was because of the fear of the anti fingerprint coating peeling off. Iv dropped mine from about two feet onto a wood and carpet floor probably 5 times and I have zero nicks or scuffs. Don't let the plastic back fool you this phone is pretty durable.

I left mine naked for the first 6 weeks or so. Then I fumbled and dropped it onto a brick fireplace that I was sitting on; nasty scuff mark on the right side.
Now it wears a matte black TPU case.
I bought the platinum case for my nexus when I bought it but I run naked now. I have ghost armor over the whole thing and I've dropped it a.few times. There are a few dings on the screen protector but the body is perfect.

like 10 times before the silicon case arrived, and the S curve case
smashed against the floor and all kind of other places, and it has survived so far
that's the good thing of plastic body vs. aluminum body
all my old HTC phones are a mess, broken apart with missing pieces of aluminum
Part of the beauty of the Nexus S is it's design and look .... a case just makes it ugly .
The way i see it is that it's only a phone ..... no need to baby it.
I've had mine naked since day one and it still looks like new .
Mine has been naked since day one. It isn't THAT slippery. Only time it has dropped was when I let my sister hold it.

Yeah I agree, the Vibrant was so much more slipper that this phone feels better in the hand.
Still prefer a case for this to be fully safe. Waiting for Case-mate.. grr
Maybe you are nervous off dropping the phone which makes you sweaty. Calm down

I have had it naked for a month, never dropped it once, and there are no major scratches anywhere! However I ordered a skin from SkinIt (after seeing someone elses in an image here ) and I am using that on the back so i can place it down without worrying as much, mainly for minor scratch protection. Not once has it nearly slipped out of my hand either. Very happy with both the phone itself and the skin if others are contemplating it.
Maybe it's slippery compared to your past phones, but this seems to be on par with all of my previous phones (Sammy E250, Nokia E63 and now the NS).
i also use mine without any case or something and i can say it still look like new..by the way its not slippery at all..
i used to use the case from bestbuy (the 2 peice crap)... then i moved onto gelaskin + screen protector + pouch
<3 the latter, i haven't dropped my phone yet since purchase on release day (knock on wood!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)
Mine's naked right now, but I ordered the shaped TPU case a few days ago. I REALLY want the CaseMate Barely There case, I think it would be perfect for this phone.

+1 to that.. except Tough Case instead mid-march... slowly... approaching....
I went from using a case to keeping it naked. IMHO I love the way the NS looks. On another note yesterday I went out to dinner with some friends and set my phone on my lap little did I know that I would be dropping it -_- luckily no damage was done to the phone

My Nexus S has been running around naked since day one when I bought it on release day. Still looking perfect with that nice smooth screen. Surprisingly not a scratch even though I dropped it twice on wood floors.
I never usually buy screen protectors for my devices, but since I'll be using this phone for a full two years, I think I should try to prevent as many scratches as possible. Can anyone recommend a good brand of screen protectors? I saw that Motorola makes an official one but it's $15.
I would like to know too didn't see any good ones out yet. I had spiegen for s4 and used indivisible shield before.

I too like to use a name brand screen protector like Spigen. I went with the Verizon brand ones off of a recommendation from someone. 3 for $12, they're decent enough as a stopgap until bigger companies put theirs out. Of course, since Moto X is the same for all carriers, you can still order them even if not Verizon.
Halo. Look them up on Amazon. Feels just like glass
had invisashield but its cut horribly, testing the skinomi so far so good cheap/effective/cut perfectly

Grabbed the Skinomi (at...1 cent? + shipping it was a no brainer!) but seems to pick up pocket lint (after having been on for 24 hours+), which is a problem I've never had before with any other screen protector. Also has some...I don't want to say bubbles, because they're not, but..ripples? ... near the bottom, which are noticeable when the screen is off. That said, the touch is just fine and besides those little issues at the bottom, it looks decent.
Have a few others to try that'll by here early next week.
I am waiting to find a tempered glass protector, I like how much more original it feels plus its much stronger than a sheet of plastic
Ordered the i-blason screen protectors and they should be in tomorrow, I'll give my take on em once I get them.

Ordered and received my Halo protectors from Amazon. They are awful, I wouldn't recommend them to anyone. The cut was terrible, and none of the 3 worked out. They felt like they were almost too long as well, having lift at either the top or bottom without a way to make it go away. Gonna get some from VZW as I hear they are good.
I only use halo. Mine is cut and fits perfect. Clarity is good and its feels just like the glass does
Just got my I-Blason screen protectors in. Took me all 3 just to get one without bubbles but the screen protector feels good and is very clear. Cut is a little small though so you gotta perfectly center the screen protector. Also for the top where the speaker and front camera is they just cut out a whole section instead of just the holes for the two.
I don't like wet installs (Zagg, and I think Skinomi is one too). I've used them in the past and have always encountered streaks despite drying, cloudy screens, or the dreaded orange peel (looking at you, Zagg).
I much prefer dry installs. The Verizon protectors are actually really good, surprisingly. Just turn on the hot shower for a few minutes, let it steam up, then install. Quite easy. The screen isn't clouded at all and still feels smooth as glass.
I love my Zagg HD. When/if they come out with a Zagg Extreme I will be buying one of those.

Sure. Have you ever personally tried installing a dry protector say, in your room and you keep getting a few specs of dust under it? Well if you haven't, that's what happens lol. Really annoying, you get the protector down and that 1 spec flies in and you didn't see it, now you have to remove the film and try again, and some are impossible to get the dust off of the sticky side.
In the shower, you run a hot shower 10 minutes, then turn it off. Leave the door open just a small crack. Apparently, the steam causes the dust to rise with it, or fall, whatever the science is lol. Makes for no dust in the air to fall on your screen and allows for installing a dry protector really easy. Wipe with a microfiber cloth and install right there.

I just ordered a pack of five from amazon. Were cheap but I'm sure I'll get at least one that works. I have tried Zagg and Armor Suit and hated them both. Went naked for awhile on my S3 and just had one tiny scratch. I work around metal and grinding dust all day and only had that one scratch. Never put one on my S4 but only had it a few days. If you have to keep the phone for two years, then a screen protector maybe good for a while IMO.

What did you hate about Zagg and Armor Suit?
I have the flexible glass screen protector from verizon on my 64g ballistic nylon with no case. Today while getting out of my car (a lowered vw golf) my phone fell off my lap on the the ground probably like only 2 feet from lap to the driveway. Screen completely shattered..... i thought gorilla glass 3 was supposed to be strong? Anyone else crack their screen yet? I know i get one free replacement but still i don't feel like the screen should have cracked this easily.
It's all about the angle in my experience. I've dropped phones and thought they were broke for sure only to see no damage and another time no biggie and I had a broken screen. Usually hits a corner just right. Sorry for your loss. On the a new one..
Its glass. Drop it at the right angle and it breaks.
Am i the only one who has cracked mine though? Has any one else dropped theirs yet? Crack or no crack upon dropping? just curious

I slapped it out of my hand with my other hand today. I was at school on a carpeted floor. No damage at all. Sounded like a brick hitting the ground.
Gorilla glass is not shatter proof. It's scratch proof

My floors have ceramic tile flooring and I've dropped my old phone and my Turbo a few times on them. Face down too. No damage at all occured yet except maybe a scratch in the sides or backing. Screen is perfect though. Dunno what to tell you, sucks that it happened though.
Its a matter of luck. And as far as I can tell we are all pretty lucky to have a free replacement.

You aren't alone. I broke mine drunkenly Friday night, the night after release. Took it into the store Saturday night and got a replacement in the mail on Tuesday. The one time replacement is nice, but had to use it in less than 48 hours. They said I was the first one and they hadn't actually been trained on it yet. So they learned that night lol
It's a huge slab of ultra thin glass, drop it and it will break. It is scratch resistant (gorilla glass) but not shatter-proof, and screen protectors do basically nothing to protect from drops. A fall onto concrete is more likely to break it as well due to variations and protrusions on the surface. If you place our phone face down on a perfectly flat surface you'll notice that the top edge of the phone curves ever so slightly up from the screen, this helps protect it from drops on a flat surface because the force is distributed to those corners instead of directly to the glass. Concrete will usually have sharp protrusions or pebbles or rocks that cause the force to be localized in spots in direct contact with the glass, causing the cracks.
At least you get a free one-time screen replacement (one of the things I like about our phone and is awesome of Moto to do it)
Yup. 3 days in and it fell off the couch and into the hardwood floor. Cracked. Slightly irritated because my Maxx made this same fall a million times. I did not have a case on the turbo. Replacement phone is on the way along with lifeproof case
My screen was scratched within the first few weeks. As thin as a strand of hair, yet extremely infuriating nonetheless. So much for Gorilla Glass.

You beat me - I had mine a week. Dropped on a hard floor at work on Friday less than 1 week after I got it. After a few expletives, I phoned Verizon - had to tell them about the one time replacement, but she happily checked into it and I had my new phone on Monday (they say we get a like new refurb - I wonder if I got yours!
I dropped mine from a few feet. The next day it started power cycling over and over, probably 2 hours into this the phone was so hot I couldn't touch it. After that the screen quit working, still seems to function though, 16 days into having this phone so I just missed the hassle free trade in from verizon. Looks like I get to play the waiting game on Motorola, and oh yeah that department is only open Mon-Thurs.
It's all about the angle of the drop. Mythbusters tested it; see: Prince Ruperts Drop. You can drop the glass and it's completely fine, but when you introduce a large force over a small area(say dropping the phone on the corner or in this case cutting the tail end), it shatters. Otterbox commuter cases have saved my previous phone time and time again(At least 10-15 drops) because it absorbs the impact so much less force is transferred to the glass.

I had to return my first one on the first day. Not because of broken glass but the frame around the grass had a spur on it that cut my hand every time I tried to use the volume keys. I went directly to a store to get it replaced. They tried to tell me I had to do it over the phone and have a refurbished unit sent to me. I argued with them and said, I have only had the phone for one day and I paid full price for the phone. There is no way you are going to give me someones phone that they returned. I paid for a new phone and that's what I am going to get and for the price I paid, it better be without any scratches out of the box.
But the phone just coming out, they shouldn't have a lot of refurbished phones, so odds are I would have gotten a new unit. I just didn't want to wait for it to ship to me.
I shattered my first Droid. Was racing my 12 year old grandson and it flew out of my pocket and hit the road. Still have it with a cracked screen. It's my trophy for winning the race when he said I was too old and slow.
To be fair, the newer tempered glass screen protectors protect EXTREMELY well from drops. I work for Best Buy in a large city. I sell anywhere from 15-30 phones a day (and see hundreds of them) and have only actually seen one phone shattered through a Zagg Glass (out of at least a thousand examples) and the one that broke was dropped from a 2nd store balcony.
Hey all,
I have had a tempered screen protector since day one, about two weeks now. I just don't like how it takes away from the design of the phone. Just wondering how those if you that have been naked are doing. How durable has the screen been and whilst using common sense, how worried should I be about scratching. I appreciate any input in advance.
2+ months and im still naked! i went to buy a case about 2 months ago, and a tmobile rep talked me out of it. it was easy to do, i always keep all my nexus naked. so far, no scratches anywhere. and i have dropped it. but it has had nothing but soft falls.
I've only had it a couple of weeks. Its got some minor, almost invisible scratches, as all my phones have had. I think those lint clothes are a bad idea...
got mine 11-19 i think? or a week after?
i dropped it in gritty dirt a week in, was too wussy to get it wet, so i rubbed it off and left a small scratch. since then its almost worn smooth and is only seen pretty much by someone who knows where and what angle to find it (me!)
since then ive dropped it a few feet onto concrete. a couple smaller slips, and a few partial dunks. strong like bull

the funny thing is i found one, and the rep wanted to sell me it. so he decided to demo it for me. he took it out of the box, tried opening it(barely), then couldnt get it onto my n6. he just frustratingly tossed it to the side and said "nexus devices arent made to be covered by a case". so i giggled, then walked out. since then, ive got another nexus without any protection.
had mine 5 weeks few scratches on the back that's about it
since..
ever since it came out still naked. just put dbrand for me putting a case will make the n6 bigger or bulkier its only me. this phone is big putting a case will add more size even if slim case i bought one and ended taking it out..use the case for two days never went back. n6 is sexy naked.
I also had a glass screen protector on mine but it was messing up the light sensor and was doing my head in so I chucked it. I'm not keen on the current case options either so I'm just rocking a DBrand wood skin.
Sent from my Nexus 6
Had mine for about 3 weeks and drop it once from knee height, no real ding and glass was fine. No case so far but the phone does feel slippery so I got a slickwraps natural edition bamboo and rocking it for couple days now and adds a bit of a grip and no more smugee fingers...
I'm starting to have the paint wear away on the bottom right corner. I've never dropped it. I'm guessing it's from rubbing against the inside of my pocket. I still think denim would have a hard time doing that, but I don't know what else it could be.
Had my phone since December, used a case for one day but hated the feel, so removed it. Dropped it a couple of times from low heights and honestly I can't find any dents or scratches. The frame and screen seem to be very resistant.
Hey guys! I've been using my Galaxy s7 edge in a case ever since I got it, but one time I took it off the case and I liked the feeling of it. Is anyone else using the phone caseless and can you tell me how that experience is? I took a day to use it caseless but it was a little uncomfortable in my hand especially when I'm on my bed. Thanks! Also thinking of getting dbrand skin
Before otterbox came out with a case I wanted, I rocked my first edge caseless. I would sit down on my front concrete steps and the phone would slip out of my pocket every time. Had a couple of scrapes. Got abother edge and have thrown a xtreme guard skin on the back for less slippage but decided not to ruin the phone so I got a glass protector and commuter case. I honestly wish someone would come out with a spring clip holster for the edge so I can stop hiding the phone.

Get either a dbrand or tpu front and back protectors. I have the clear front and back protectors and they are great the phone sticks to my hand i have used the phone caseless since the release of the s7 edge and have not dropped it or even had the thought to my self of needing a case for it.
Here's a link to the one I got, UK link: http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B01CH5RJT0/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_udp_apa_8e3IxbA2KK8HP
I couldn't find it on the US amazon website so if you are not in the UK you could try to find it on eBay or just purchase something similar.
When im home i always take off my case. I really feel the premiumness of the glass and metal build of the s7. Its what we pay for, premium build and the thickness is ideal. The only thing i hate about is when im on the bed using the phone it continues to slip from the hand and i accidentally touch the curve edges. I bought a super thin gel case for when i go out. And ordered a skin from slickwrap.
I use it without a case occasionally but it is kind of slippery. I bought a naked skin slickwrap since I was mostly worried about scratches that also added a little more grip

i used the phone with a case for 2 months, now i'm using a dbrand leather skin and a spigen screen protector without a case. waiting for a decent glass screen protector... same issue in bed, feels a little bit uncomfortable.
I quit putting my phones in a case since my Note 3. Right now I have Zagg HD Dry on the front and back (btw this is the most dissatisfied I've ever been with Zagg). My house is almost entirely travertine tile and I have dropped my phone once; it landed right down on the screen with not a crack on it at all (some what of a testament to Zagg I presume). I dislike the feel of the Zagg but it does its job but I really dislike the bulkiness of cases.
At home, case less (only front and back protectors). Outside, cased.
Sent from my S7 Edge using XDA Labs
I'm not so bold to go caseless. I really don't have confidence in the illusion of "Gorilla Glass" where you can watch videos on youtube of people dropping mallets and run the s7 with a car all day, but in the real word a 2ft drop could ruin it's pristine look.
While I like the feel of just the phone in my hand, I don't like it's magnetism for dust, prints, and oil smudges. I can't defend the aesthetic choice of making a phone ridiculously shiny and smooth, making it look gorgeous when it's clean, and then look like garbage 5 minutes later after handling it.
But I didn't buy the phone for it's look. I bought it for its processor, particularly gaming-related reasons, in which a case really helps for grip and avoiding those abhorrent navigation buttons. Phone be like "I know you're in an application with immersion mode and you're holding the phone landscape, but your palm lightly brushed against the recent button, so I'm going to go ahead and eject you from your game you're playing. What's that? You were playing a multiplayer match online and this slight inconvenience disqualified you from your match? Sorry bout that, but **** you anyway." It happens alot. When you're gaming in landscape, thats where your thumb and palm rest... on the top and bottom bezels. So you gotta uncomfortably ark your thumb to avoid touching the button, but a case you can play in landscape much more comfortably.
Since i take care of it, i don't use a case, just a full body skin protector.

Installation is a pain in the ass but i won't be worried about scratches anymore now and i love the look of it without a case.

My old S3 was caseless most of its life (with one of those screen protector packages that covered both sides.) Eventually the back one was taken off to make it look less grimey. S5 was also caseless except when I'd go backpacking or off road, in which case I'd slip it into an Incipio Dual Pro. (Glass screen protector was on it too.)
I've tried a few combinations on the S7E but since none of the glass options seem to be any good still, and every film based screen cover i've tried peels once I put it in a case, i've just been running with a Zagg HD screen protector and nothing else.
I love the feel of the phone, and reduced bulk, but I definitely have activities where I'd like to have SOME kinda protection on the phone. (Lack of such is how I managed to get some pretty gnarly scratches on the screen very early on.) Suffice it to say that I stopped caring about small scratches on the back a long time ago.
