[Q] Is the T-Mobile Moto X Sim-Locked? - Moto X Q&A

I'm looking into the Moto X for my wife and trying to figure out which variant to get. I'd prefer to get an unlocked one if I can, but I don't want to pay a premium to get it. I can deal with the sim lock if necessary.

really? No one knows?

Yes, the Tmobile Moto X is SIM-unlocked out of the box and unbranded in any way. It's pretty much a nexus phone in that way.

cellunlocker [.net] costs $8 usd and it's what we're all using. I personally unlocked two Rogers Moto X using it, and others on this forum said the same thing. There's already a thread for unlocking, read that one instead.

My curiosity is, if you unlock the AT&T version, will it work on T-Mobile's LTE network as well?
It should. I've used Xperia with no issues on TMo. Does cellunlocker work realiably for AT&T version?
I have heard about Roger's X being unlocked. But so far it seems nobody can confirm that AT&T moto maker ones can be unlocked. Or am I totally out off the loop?
Finally! With Motomaker's AT&T off-contract device available for purchase now, I understand that the SIM can be unlocked for use on non-AT&T networks. Does that mean it can even be used internationally? European and Asian networks?

I used cellunlocker to unlock my AT&T Moto X. Worked without any problems. Had unlock code in about an hour after placing order. Once unlocked, the Moto X works perfectly on TMO LTE network.

I haven't done it myself, but pudgewack was pretty explicit as to cellunlocker's speed:

Keep in mind that the AT&T version lacks the 1700 UMTS band, which means that if you're in an area where TMobile hasn't reframed (to use the 1900 band) you won't have 3G coverage. Basically you'll be switching between LTE and 2G in those areas, and considering TMo's LTE coverage that could be a problem. Get the TMo version unless you plan to travel to/live in Puerto Rico or Chile (according to Wikipedia...).

What are you talking about? T-Mobile doesn't offer ANY Motorola phones, let alone Moto X.http://forum.xda-developers.com/images/smilies/frown.gif Check their stores or the website. You can get a non-carrier branded unlocked phone directly from Google for $400-450 depending on the config.
Anybody knows if there is a way to unlock Moto X for free?http://forum.xda-developers.com/images/smilies/confused.gif
Thanks.

It can't be activated on Verizon
As a general rule no phone from any other carrier can be used on Vzw... I've heard of it being done with iPhone 5's before, but I've never seen it done... Verizon just won't allow it.... Also why we on Vzw don't get nexus's anymore

[Q] T-Mobile Moto X: can I use it on any GSM carrier?

Hi there!
I am looking to get a Moto X to be used with any GSM carrier in the US and Europe.
(I don't want to root it)
Do I need to buy the Developer Edition or can I also get the No-Contract T-Mobile one (customizable via motomaker)?
Thanks in advance!
The T-mobile is unlocked and good to go, no need to buy the developer edition.

They're the exact same phone x1053, make sure the LTE bands are correct for the carriers you want to use (5 and 7 are x1058 only)

Are you absolutely sure about this? Do you know it for a fact, or have you just read it somewhere?
I contacted Motorola today, to verify that the t-mobile off-contract version indeed was sim-unlocked, but they replied that it WAS sim-locked, and also was carrying the t-mobile logo on the back.
I think it's really hard to figure out who to believe, since many are reporting that it comes sim-unlocked, but wouldn't Motorola be the one to know for sure?

I can't verify whether it's SIM locked or not but I have one in my hand and the T-Mobile XT1053 does not have any branding on it. There is no logo on it. There are no T-Mo apps on it either.
It's unlocked. Using it with prepaid at&t.

[Q] Moto X, Cyber monday, help

Hi, i'm going to buy moto X with moto maker.
i've few question ,
1) which carrier should i choose ?? if i'm going to unlock and use my local carrier
2) i've been told that, motorola website will be accepted only US credit card.
Is that true ? I only have Thailand credit card. Are there any opportunities i can buy the Moto X
PS# i'm Thai
thx a lot
Just try it and see. Unless you have an American friend who can buy it for you off contract on the website. Or just purchase an online gift card or something do it that way. Look at Amazon.com see if they offer a similar deal on Cyber Monday

FWIW, Motorola has rejected both my Singapore and Malaysia credit cards. So you're pretty much out of luck if you're planning to use a non-US CC.
If you do manage to get the deal somehow, then first check which spectrums Thailand telcos use, and compare them with the individual telcos that support Moto Maker. I believe the T-mobile one, if it fits your telco, will come SIM-unlocked.

and, you suggest me to get T-Mobile. how 'bout AT&T one ?
I believe the AT&T version is SIM locked. You might have to spend some money getting an unlock code for the phone online. In addition, the boot loader is (semi-)permanently locked, if that's a concern to you.

Read somewhere that all bought via the moto maker are locked... well, it does not matter, as the site is down.
you can get a t-mobile that is unlocked here http://www.motorola.com/us/Moto-X-for-T-Mobile/m-moto-x-tmobile.html but it is only availble in woven white/black and ONLY 16gb! for $349. There is NO 32gb option, and since google/moto removed the SD card, it is a no brainer that to use this phone for more than a year you need the 32gb version... so the t-mo is not an option
the dev for $399 is the only sensible option for cyber monday. no customization. ungliest color combo.
but at that price, you have to love the amoled selective pixels on thing. because the 32gb nexus 5 is pretty much more bang for the buck still. not that i'm getting either i need my SD slots

Are All No Contract GSM Phones Identical on Motomaker?

Am getting close to pulling the trigger. Plan on buying unlocked GSM. On the Motomaker site, I get three choices:
1) Pure (I assume no SIM)
2) NET10 (I assume NET10 SIM)
2) ATT (I assume ATT SIM)
All cost the same (start at $499).
My question is, are all 3 the EXACT same model, with the exception of the SIM (or lack thereof)? Are these all The Pure Edition (XT1095)?
Only 1) is pure. ATT is a different model and not sure about net10. Google would probably get you the answer.
The Net10 or with TMO Sim will be the Pure edition.
The model will be XT1095

It's an interesting method, but the one labeled as "Pure Edition" comes with T-Mobile SIM while the Net10 version isn't labelled as Pure, although I've seen some people say they're identical except the SIM.
1. It looks like the ATT Version has exactly the same bands and hardware as the Pure. Am I correct?
2. Does the ATT Version have an ATT Logo on it?
3. Is there ATT "bloatware"? If so, is it removable?
4. Is it locked?
5. Any other differences from the "Pure"?

2. Yes
3. Yes there is. Most of it, but not all.
4. Bootloader is locked. This is the the biggest issue/difference.
A friend of mine (who educated me about this phone; I want one too now), accidentally ordered the ATT when she really wanted the Pure. She hasn't received it yet (it should get to her in a few days). The problem is, she really needs a new phone (her old one is dying).
Can she accept the new one, and call Moto to "swap" it for the Pure? Will they let her use the ATT one until the Pure arrives?

No. But I believe AT&T does have a 15 day return policy. Or she can order a Nexus 6 from AT&T.

If she ordered it contract free from Motorola she might be able to call them and explain the error. I mean, they do give you 14 days to exchange a MotoMaker phone if you don't like the design, so they might be willing to switch the model for her too.
Yes, she did order it contract free from Motorola.
She always has two weeks no questions asked to return it

Yes, understand, but she would prefer to do an even exchange, as she needs a phone and she doesn't want to lose the cyber-monday coupon she used.
Order the replacement now, then return the other one in a week when the new one comes

Welp, the only way for her to find out for sure is to call Motorola.
I have another idea. Is she "SURE" that she ordered incorrectly, or MAYBE they made a mistake? I'm pretty sure that if she tells them that she thought that she ordered the Pure, but they sent the ATT, that they will do an even swap for her! :cyclops:
