As requested by some users, here is a flashcast mod that will allow the chromecast to use DHCP provided DNS servers instead of the hard-coded Google DNS Servers. Expect this mod to be in all future releases of my rooted system images!
NOTE: This is NOT a standalone ROM, just a add-on, so you will need to have a rooted system image already installed to use this. Enjoy!
Download Here: https://mega.co.nz/#!wNs0QSya!bV8dD2H1CdfVPorrjWnRXzyfLXw171Zsj3L88fihZaQ
Install Instructions:
Setup and Install Flashcast on a Jump Drive: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2452838
Download, and put eureka_image.zip on your Flashcast jump drive.
Plug the Flashcast jump drive into the chromecast, hold the button, and plug in power to boot the device.
Flashing will take 3~ minutes, be patient! As long as the chromecast LED is white, it is working.
Once done, the device will reboot and you are good to go.

This works well, i might just use this method rather than the harcoded dns servers images.
As such i wouldn mind if you make dhcp dns a default from now on.

Thanks ddggttff3, sorry for asking complete dumb question here.
I have copied flashcast-1.0.bin to my usb disk using win32diskimager. But how do I copy this rom to the same usb driver? Once I wrote the usb with flashcast-bin file, pc is not recognizing USB at all.
Can you please help?

You need to boot the Chromecast once using the USB Drive so it can set up the filesystem. After that, your computer will recognize it and you can copy the mod. Please read the first post in my FlashCast thread carefully.
Does this have any current benefits, such as allowing us to use the blocked aircast app? Or is this like the other mods which is for any potential future developments?

Just read OP carefully, this is NOT a full ROM, just a mod. This should be used on top of a rooted system, like my 13300 image, so the chromecast is protected from getting Googles OTA updates.

This MOD just makes it so the chromecast uses the router's advertised DNS Servers. Currently, the only benefit to this is for people who have custom DNS Servers defined on their router to get access to Netflix/Services if they are in a territory that does not normally support it. If you live in the US, and don't use custom DNS Servers, then this won't make any difference.
It pretty much just makes the chromecast work like a normal, proper DHCP device.
Thanks ddggttff3,
Unfortunately for me, its not working. Maybe im not so good at rooting stuff .
However hard I trychromecast led is still red. I tried with both USB hub and Powered OTG cable.
Initially i tried with extracting the flacast.zip file and writing the bin file to USB, but it failed, red led. Even after holding the button and plugging in the power.
Then I tried with writing the zip file to to USB using windwisk imager, same red led when power is on. just for the sake of it I used DD in mac os to write the flashcat.zip file to USB. same situation
As soon as I plug the power in( from pc usb) the led just glows white/red and then stays red , even after holding the button before plugging in the power and holding it for next 1 min.
Am I doing anything wrong here? . my chromecast version is 13300. I don't live in the US, so for me this ROM would have easily helped me watch netflix, since I have proxy dns setup in my router.
Please advice
Thank you.

Is your Chromecast running a stock or a rooted ROM? If it's stock 13300, you can't use this or any other FlashCast mod since the bootloader vulnerability which FlashCast uses is not present. If it's already rooted and you still have a vulnerable bootloader, you need to make sure you're using WinDiskImager or dd to write the .bin (not the .zip) file to your USB drive.
Thanks tchebb,
my chromecast is running on stock rock 13300, never rooted. So I guess there is not much luck for me here
Thanks all for the responses, hope ddggttff3 comes up with some way to root stock 13300. Will keep watching the threads.

Firstly, thanks very much for all your efforts. I'm getting a Chromecast today and am eager to root it and get Unlocator set up. But would it be possible to keep a version of a rooted image that doesn't use the router-assigned DNS? Reason is that I and many others in the UK have Virgin for an ISP. But the Virgin router doesn't let you change the router's DNS (at least not without connecting a second router).
Thanks.
You can always just flash my UnLocator DNS mod on top of any chromecast ROM, and that would remove the DHCP mod
A million thanks for this, my internet connects via PPTP and a set DNS so without this my CC would be trash. Works like a charm!

Hi, i have an half bricked HD7 and i'm trying to fix it with goldcard since i read this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1417761
I followed this guide http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=893152
I have the CID, i have the goldcard.img, i have a good rom and i copyed it to my 1GB SD card after i renamed it to SCHUIMG.nbh. Now i don't fully understand what i have to do.
At this point on the guide:
4-connect usb cable except the one for the wp7
boot your device into usb host mode(volume down + camera on Trophy)
and connect the last usb cable.
the screen of your wp7 look like this if all work.
This point is not clear to me, may someone explain better what i have to do and what should happen?
I have an Y-cable and a female-female adaptor. Please tell me what to do.
Thanks for your answers.

connect all the cables, except the phone (micro USB on the bottom of the phone)
press and hold volume down button with the camera button, then press the power button, the phone should turn on with a grey screen and blue text in the middle that says "Enter USB Host Mode" or something like that..
connect your phone to usb
your screen should look like the photo attached in that thread
Ok, i did everything as you said, and my phone was in "Enter USB host mode". After i connect it to USB it changes to "Loading..." and remains stuck there forever. I also tried with different card readers and different micro SD (always 1 GB or lower), same results.
Notice that my card readers don't have a flashing light so i don't know wether they are working or not. I assume they are working because the screen changes in "Loading" but for some reason it gets stuck in there.
Maybe I should change rom? I'm using a NoDo rom i found on an italian blog since i can't download the ones the xda forum provides, i always get the error "server is busy" or something like that.
Do you have any suggestion? I'm using this rom anyway:
ht tp:// uplo aded .to/file /dud fva8j
(remove spaces)
Edit: the rom i'm using is not a custom rom of course, it's the original NoDo.

hmm, are you sure the ROM you're using is the one for your phone, you know, if your phone is T-Mobile, you have to download tmobile rom... etc
and maybe there isn't enough power for the phone and the reader, try using your wall charger not your computer/laptop
and try asking a friend to download you the roms from xda, especially if you know someone with different ISP
hope it works

I'll try to download the roms from xda in some way, can someone give me a link to a working one? I tried from this list but some links say the file has been removed, others just don't work because the file sharing site is close and so on.

Hey, im in Jamaica and ive got a challenge for Captivate users. No one has been able to figure this dilema out. Hopefully someone can solve this.
My captivates usb port has stopped doing anything. The details are:
1. The phone works fine and used to be rooted but the root is corrupt i think. Super user installed but the phone behaves unrooted and SU gives errors.
2. I cant flash ROMs since there is no usb.
3. Cannot sideload as the phone cant receive the AT&T OTA update since im in Jamaica.
4. I changed the USB port but same result (no charge, no connection to pc)
Im thinking the usb is bricked since the person i got it from says it charged the day before she reset the phone to give to me.
5. Cant update.zip via 3 recovery (i get e: siganture verification failed)
Can anyone figure this out!? Im thinking its impossible now. If only i could use sideload wonder machine wirelessly, then i could use Z4ROOT or Visionary to flash.
Maybe stupid question. But do u have the Samsung USB drivers installed? If yes then probably need a new USB cord. Try a different one.

1. Ive tried several usb cables but no response.
2. If the phone wont even charge via usb then im not sure installing the drivers will help.
3. Whats the jig supposed to do? Get me into download? If so, when i hold the volume buttons and power button, it takes me to a screen that gives me the options to clear cache, user data, and reinstall packages. but when i try various update.zip files i get the signed verification failed message. I think this is recovery mode but ill search for how to get into download mode. Does download mode work without usb?
Tried entering download mode but i guess since the usb doesnt work, thats why it doesnt function.

If the phone doesn't charge through the usb, you need a new usb port on your phone. If you know how to solder, you can probably get one for cheap and look at videos on how to do it. Otherwise, you can go through mobiletechvideos.com to get it replaced.
As for download mode, it's vol down + power.

There's a security feature, you can uncheck it in your settings.
And holding vol down+power while phone is off will boot it in download mode (don't have the usb plugged in). Also, formatting and resetting a phone doesn't break usb. My guess, the job wasn't done correctly.
Have you tried it on other pc? Perhaps your pc usb port is defective.

1. There isnt any such setting on the ATT version of my captivate. I guess that option came after the sideload OTA update.

1. I though I remembered being able to sideload back then (it has been a while) but could be wrong.
2. Not with the signature verification. You'd need a custom recovery (cwm).
Getting in download mode is something that always works (unless you mess up with the bootloaders = bricked phone), just like getting in recovery. It's something that comes with the phone.
Basically, not much can be done on the Captivate without a working usb.

Anyway to get a rooting app from google play? or bypass apk block? Is there anyway to update from att over wifi? I can check for update on the phone but it just hangs there. A way to sideload apps without USB is to download the Google Drive app from the Play Store then upload the APK from your computer to your Drive. Next access your Drive on your phone and select the APK it should begin the regular install.
**you will need to allow 3rd party applications**

try going to Setting > Security > Enable Unknown Sources
thats where it is on my phone but im running a custom Rom
if that doesnt work try to find anything in the settings that says enable unknown sources.
---------- Post added at 04:09 PM ---------- Previous post was at 03:57 PM ----------
So I did some reading and if your running stock at&t ROM you most likely are not able to allow unknown sources (because for some reason AT&t blocks it).
You might want to try download an app called AppInstaller by FunTrigger from PlayStore (I have never used this and I'm not sure if it will get around the 3rd party problem you are having but its worth a shot)
You should be able to use it to install the APK in your Drive.
---------- Post added at 04:37 PM ---------- Previous post was at 04:09 PM ----------
Okay I think I've got it. Note that i have not tried this myself and take no responsibility if something goes wrong.
How to enable unknown sources on AT&T phone:
Settings > Applications > Manage Applications > All > select Customization Settings Provider and then Clear Data
Next go back one page and select Settings and then Clear Data
Now in Settings > Applications you should see the option unknown sources select it.
Now unknown sources are enabled!

And if that doesn't work then just flash a new CWM and ROM,,, there are ways to do that without connecting to a computer.

Hi
Purchased a rooted chromecast. and need some help in setting it up. Would plugging in and setting it up on my tv clear the root? There was a website link on XDA that could check the firmware but when I tried to navigate to that link it turned out to be invalid.
Any advice on setting up a rooted chromecast? Should I follow a different set of steps?
Thanks in advance
Hi dalkiel,
Does this boot with the Team Eureka Logo? (Or Pwncast if an old root).
If it does then you are free to set it up as needed, these roms remove the update logic so the device is safe to use as you would a normal device (set up, reset user data, etc).
Hi
Thanks for your reply i plugged it into the tv (samsung smart tv) and nothing popped up so i figured I need to start with the PC first. Downloaded the chromecast setup files and ran set up. It showed me a code and wanted to verify if thats what I saw n the tv? I didnt want to proceed further without clarifying in case i wipe out the root. There was no boot screen with Eureka or pwncast when plugged into the tv or PC.
Further advise would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

You won't wipe out root...All you are really dong is setting up WiFi Access in a setup and changing the name of the device on the network.

You should see a Team Eureka logo on boot, but depending on your TV you might have to let it boot completely then reboot it again to see it (TV input detect sometimes takes too long to "lock on" to the input).

You won't need to download every update like this, it'll automatically update from the Microsoft Store when there is a new version.
Remember that your phone's screen needs to be on and unlocked to be discoverable from your PC (unfortunately it's a limitation of Quick Share itself)!
TroubleshootingAll should work fine just by running the .bat file, but if you're having issues try applying DriverCheckBypass.reg (just run the file, then Yes and then Ok), especially if your PC doesn't have an Intel AX wireless adapter (e.g. Intel AC/Broadcom/Realtek/Marvell etc.).
Keep in mind that latest versions from the Store could contain patches to this method, so if you encounter any issue download this older version here.
DisclaimerKeep in mind that Samsung could fix this any time. So, if it doesn't work, probably they have fixed it. However, as of 11/7/2021, I can confirm that it works perfectly (doesn't display the unsupported device error and file sharing works both sending and receiving), tested on Lenovo Yoga C940 with Intel AX201 wireless adapter (support for other adapters cannot be guaranteed). Also, I'm not responsible for any loss or damage.
DownloadYou can download it here!

Samsung Quick Share 4 AllThis tiny script makes Samsung Quick Share working on non-Samsung Windows PCs by spoofing a registry value that the program checks when opening. This repository includes:
a .bat Batch version of the script (run as admin);
a .ps1 PowerShell version of the script (run ad admin);
a .xml Task Scheduler task to make it launch at startup (check "run with highest privileges" when creating/importing the task). The task is configured to run the .bat version of the script, but you can change it to run the .ps1 one if you like.
DisclaimerKeep in mind that Samsung could fix this any time. So, if it doesn't work, probably they have fixed it. However, as of July 1st 2021, I can confirm that it works perfectly (doesn't display the "device not compatible" error and file sharing works both sending and receiving). Also, I'm not responsible for any loss or damage.

Good morning, may be you can help me with the setup, so I installed the app and ran the .bat file, when I launch the app it asked me to login to my Samsung account, which I did and then in next screen it says 'Turn on Bluetooth to connect to nearby devices', so do I need to turn on Bluetooth in both my laptop and Samsung Phone and then only it will connect?

Good morning, yes, you need to turn on BT on both PC and phone, as well as Quick Share on your phone. The first time you'll send a file, it could ask you to pair your devices via bluetooth.

If the transfer shows "failed" or never completes, try going to Bluetooth settings and unpairing the devices, and then retrying sending a file, it will ask to pair again. Also: do you have Intel wireless drivers? And which version of Quick Share are you using (the latest one from Store or the older one)?

Yes, they restrict allowed drivers to the ones that come with their Galaxy Book devices, which is AX series, so try applying DriverCheckBypass.reg file and then retry. Don't worry, it won't install anything and won't mess with your drivers, it will just create the registry keys and values that the app checks regarding drivers. However, thanks for reporting!

Thanks for the quick response. I seem to have some Bluetooth connection issue with my laptop, when I try to pair my phone with it I get this message in my phone "Couldn't pair. Check settings for this device and try again."

Oh, I'm sorry. What doesn't work precisely? It fails when sending files? Did you try both PC->phone and phone->PC?

Try toggling Quick Share off and on on your phone and try setting it temporarily to "Everyone" instead of "Only contacts" (both on PC and phone) and retry.
Awesome, thank you! This are the kind of things I expect to find here!

I uninstalled the Bluetooth adapter and re-installed also. In services.msc, all three Bluetooth related services are set to automatic start. Literally spent at least 3 hours in the morning today to troubleshoot the Bluetooth issue in my laptop, no luck

Seems like an issue unrelated to Quick Share, but to exclude it completely try these possible solutions:
- try to pair the PC with another phone
- if the driver is not Intel AXxxxx try installing the DriverCheckBypass.reg file
- the unsuccessful pairing is the one that asks when you try sending a file with QS, right? If yes, try to pair it manually in Windows bluetooth settings
- which version did you try? The latest one or the older one? If you are trying the first then try the latter and viceversa.
Hi, can anyone please point me to the correct method for booting in recovery? All the volume up/down+power key combinations do not work for me.
Thanks.

Hi how are things.
do you have root?
Magisk?
if you have magisk, from there you can start.
No root, obviously, otherwise there is a ton of apps for booting in recovery.

I understand that the equipment must be turned off.
1.connect usb cable to pc.
2.connect cable to s20 fe.
(wait for the battery percentage to appear.
3. press volume + and power at the same time (it will turn off after 2 seconds, keep pressing, until the s20 logo appears
4. done.
Thank you, worked like a charm. This is new, I mean, the connection to the PC. Thanks again.

If you want to be root at some point.
Magiks application has the option to reboot in recovery mode.
excellent day .
Hi guys, I have the exact same problem (no root, Android 13 update from 1st of March) and your solution doesn't work. It doesn't want to go into recovery or download mode whatever combinations I try. Do you have any advices?

if your team is business, it will not work.
There are variants that are blocked by companies.
If that's your case, you can't this way.
Several teams have already passed with that detail.

There are teams that your work gives you. (companies, corporations, etc.)
They send to ask for the equipment with Samsung, they block the access to recovery and download.
In my repair shop, Samsung equipment arrives with that block.
In your case, you say that it is not business, I don't know what causes your problem.

keep trying
I put the cable into the PC, halfway plug the cable into the phone while it's turned off. then I start holding volume up plus power for recovery and then push the cable all the way into the phone immediately after.
Ok. Thank you both for the help. I'll try this method as well.
Found out why the recovery mode didn't want to turn on. The cable was just for charging :/ Plugged in another one and it worked like a charm. Thanks for all the help guys.
I just joined. I can not see where I start a new thread to ask a question.
Can someone direct me?
BTW - My problem is I installed Fire Toolbox, It ran once and now only open a gray box on the sceen and freezes. Rebooted , uninstalled - reinstalled, tried diff versions...?
