Dust on the screen - Xperia SP Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello! I have SP c5302, that is 2 month old. Near 2-3 weeks ago i have seen dust under on the screen under the glass. It is in the middle of the screen, but it's small and i can see it only if screen is off, but every week some more dust is getting there, that is more visible even if screen is on.
Please tell me how to solve this problem? Dissasemble the phone, and clean dust manually, or use conpressor?
Thanks!

Same here but it's not the worse. I also have some small white dots under the screen. I think I should send it for repair bit I'm lazy to unroot and relock and everything...

It's interesting, is there any way to remove dust without disassembling the phone?

I also have this dust problem on the right bottom corner. Its getting more and more. I hope this is a warranty reason.

I too have the same problem. However, mine was already sent in for a repair (LCD Replacement) and found that some specks of dust were present in between the LCD and the glass. So I again asked the technicians over at the service center to clean the device. They went nuts when I insisted that they should clean it again, maybe around 2-3 times, before the noticeable specks were gone. Some dusts are still present on my phone as I comment, but are only visible only when under a strong lightsource.
I suggest you go to a service center and ask them to clean it for you. Better bring a flashlight to check if some specks would still be present, though I doubt the screen would be 100% free from dust.
OR if you plan on disassembling the phone yourself, you can try to use the aspirators used in cleaning camera lenses.

Thnx! I want to do it myself, and I need to know hows is the screen connected to the front glass, how to disassemble screen sandwich.

Go to a repair centre and ask them for an price indicate. If you mess with your phone you will lose your warranty for sure. If you go to a repair centre you have warranty and keep your warranty

Too bad, i dont have a pro camera right now. and also hard to capture by camera.
and i believe those p880 with this issue will be more dust after certain usage.
just 1 week, there are 2 medium dot under screen. from my exp last times, about 1-2 month, there lots of dust and big 1.
really make me so sad. what a product with this stupid issue!
i have the same issue too but its really slight. the dust are hardly seen under normal usage and only when the screen is off and im looking for it.
not something very irritating but yea, it shouldn't be there. btw my Optimus One had this problem too but it was really a thick dense line of dust from the bottom left corner of the screen.
edit: added photos
i have only one and barely notice it

go straight down to the service centre at Alexandra road if u want fast repair. call email also no use you can't fix it yourself anyway.
Bring along your proof of purchase (receipt) and warranty card.

i know where is it, and send before. i post here that because i believe it will happen again after second service.
previously i emailed, they said sent to their service center.
in the service center i asked, and they said no this quality issue on other p880. what i feel is nonsense, just other people lazy go for it.
And purposely go there for same problem, i am quite unhappy, because wasting my time to go and back.
And they just replace the window glass, i dont think can fix permanently, since this is a common issue for most people, wasnt?
Hello I have the same issue, in my P880 I saw specs of dust two days after of purchase, now 2 months later I have many specs, some are very annoying at sunlight. Sadly in my Country I do not have technical support from LG.

How i' fixed one dust dot.
Hello
Today i noticed white dust point between my screen and glass of phone... and.. i was pissed off!!! because phone is one month old!
Tried to calmdown ... but every time when i looked on the screen i saw nothing but that white dot...
So... i don't take any responsibility for this "tutorial" on damaging your glass or screen or phone...
So... turn off you phone ... using your pointing finger make speed hard taps on dust area with little bit bending of whole phone.
With this method i managed to move dust point from middle of screen to bottom edge of screen... and with more bending and taping on edhe area
dust spot is disappeared. (it took me 2 minutes of tapping)
I konw it sounds crazy but it worked and i'm happy again

Isn't this problem partly due to the fact that there's a large gap between the display and touchscreen itself?

I've been contemplating getting this phone for a while now but this puts me right off. My SGS doesn't have this problem as the display and touchscreen are bonded together.

Backglas loose ?!

Hi,
Today I felt that the glas at the back of the Z was slightly bend up at the upper left corner (next to the camera). Must hace happened in the last days.
Its like the backglas comes off at that corner and I can even push it inwards a little.
I didn't let it fall or didn't push or squeeze it too much or something.
Is there a way to fix that? Im frightened that it wont keep water off or dust will enter or the glas will crack (cause this edge is now slightly higher than the frame).
Sent from my C6603 using xda premium
I have no idea about this, but if I were in your seat, I'd get it replaced before anything breaks.
Or - send it in for warranty repairs, if you get it back and its still coming off, and go back claim they did it.
It seems this happened because you played a lot with doom kernel
Overheating will dry the back glass's glue and rubbers.
If you see how to disassemble this phone you will know what i mean.

Sent from my C6603 using xda premium
Im only undervolting and -clocking what results in less heat all across the board... So maybe this glue would have dried even faster if I hadnt used doomkernel
Well, any tips how to solve this on my own? Guess with a unlocked BL and rooted phone sonys gonna make this issue a several hundret euro issue
Sent from my C6603 using xda premium
I experienced the very same issue! Exactly the exact spot. Top lef corner at the camera. I have all stock firmware, no overclock.
Very frustrating! I always try to push it back, but it does not stay that way. Now the glass is about the same level as the side bevel. Sometimes over it a bit.
I would repair it myself the way that video is showing how to remove the back glass, but I do not know what type of glue should I use...
I didn't fix it and it didn't change or come off (yet). Well, maybe we shouldn't bother too much, as opening the back could be like opening pandoras box I learned to live with it, because it really isn't that big of an issue...I had already forgotten about it. Your answer here made me remember it
Edit:
But I need to add that this is not something I expected when buying a premium flagship for 600 bucks...
Sent from my C6603 using xda premium
Well if you didn't play around with the kernel then you might have used the phone for too long to the point it started to melt the glue.
This was mentioned by users when the phone was launched. The camera part gets heated up easily.
If it's getting loose don't even try putting it under water, it's probably not ip57 anymore.
Prevention: try not to hold your hand in the upper part, when it starts feeling hot let the phone sit till it's cool.
Less gaming for you gamers out there!
Yes it's sad but there's sacrifices for beauty.

This happened with my XZ too. Today after playing Carmageddon and charging it at a same time (for 90 mins approx). I pushed back the backplate WHILE IT WAS HOT, and its ok for now. Im sure its caused due to the heat from inside. Gonna monitor that issue and if it happens again, I will return the phone back to the store.
They must do something with charging because while i playing the batt percentage was decreased from 75 to 55 (on stock charger, but with another 1.8m cable).

In Singapore, the service center dont bother if your set is rooted or unloack BL.. As long as it is still under warranty, they will repair for you. I tried with HTC, Asus and Sony... lolx
I believe now, Unlocking BL and Rooting but keep stock ROMs will not cost your warranty void. Its only when you play around with custom ROMs and cause your phone to break or having boot-loops then you need to pay for repair. But most of the time, re-flashing ROMs will solve the issue.

HELP! Xperia Z Now has a black screen!

So hello,
I am at vacation, Had my xperia Z, was trying to test the water resistance of the phone, so i decided, ( i never did something with water and my phone before, because i was worried something would happen) to make a video when jumping into the swimming pool,
so i did.
after that, ( about 3 hours later) my screen starts to flicker. after that, the brightness goes down.
still flickering.
I decided to do a CPU stability test, just to check.
CPU came at 50.3 degrees (!!!) ( WTF!), then i turned it off, because i thought this was a little too hot.
After that, i was sleeping, next day it was still the same, still flickering and low brightness, but everything was working. I turned it off again,
Yesterday i turned it on, and saw nothing on-screen anymore, although i do know that the phone still works, because of this:
If i hold volume up + power button for 10 seconds, it still vibrates,
if i hold volume down and power button, it makes a screenshot ( i hear that sound)
and when i press on the screen, i hear that touch sounds.
-----
Can someone help me?
Do i have to repair it in a repair center? How much will it cost me? or is this in warranty ( i think no)
Also additional info:
Phone = Rooted
I had an custom ROM ( Honami )
I had all covers closed
I did NOT go one meter deep, i jumped in the pool and held my arm high, so it was almost not under water
it was NOT for 30 seconds/30minutes, just jump and done
Thanx!
The act of jumping in the water probably caused water to be forced into your phone.
It's highly likely corrosion and/or shorting of components has occurred as you continued to use the phone after water got in.
You can try leaving the device turned off in a bag of rice for a week or so, to see if that removes the moisture.
IMO, though, permanent damage has occurred and you will need to take it for repair.
Your warranty is probably void.

Might be that u did not close the port properly, is the indicator turns colour? If thats not the Case then try reflash stock Rom, and if that does not solve the problem, try checking for possibility of water in ur device.. It might come through the back panel.

What indicator? The LED indicator? That gives several colours, when i turn it on it is pink, and when it is on, it is either green flashing sometimes, or blue flashing sometimes
and how to check for water in my device? ( besides letting it in a sack of rice for a week, because then i already know that wont work)
And if i let it repair, what will it cost? Since everything is working, except the screen
And i dont know how this works, but i saw some news sites that posted 2 days ago that the Xperia Z ultra has exact the same problem as i describe now, could it be thatsome xperia Z models also face the exact same problem?
He means the "water indicator". If you open the headphone or usb port flap, you'll see square white stuff in the corner. That's the indicator. If it is no longer white (it becomes red when water breach occurred), you have to take your phone into repair, and your warranty is already lost so you will be charged for the repair fee.

Have to say, my screen is not completely blank, i could see on the lock screen the time, it was very dark however, but i still see something
also: cannot look now if it is pink, i think its pink, because i already saw that,
and if you mean warranty is already void because of root, i can relock my bootloader and flash to stock fairly easy ( have done it already couple of times, so, can do.)
and still, the big question, what do you expect me to payfor the repair?
and shall i bring it to sony? or to T-Mobile? or to another random third party repair shop in my city? ( last option is most affordable i think, but not the most secure, so what do you guys advise?)

If the screen is very dark and you still can see whatever it displays, probably the LED IC (IC that controls the LED illumination) is broken, because the LCD is still working, but without any illumination. To bring it to sony is the best I guess.
Well, your warranty is void because the indicator is red (or pink-ish, not white anymore) because of water breach. Not because you unlocked your bootloader.

That would be because repairing the average water damaged phone would cost more than replacing it when you factor in that probably every component has suffered damage, labour costs etc.

So instead of helping SOME people, they choose to help no one, because it COULD be that everything is damaged?
Not everyone has Water damage everywhere
Yes, that's correct. Basic common sense would suggest it's cheaper to supply a new unit at cost price than to mess around paying someone to diagnose the fault and replace the whole internals of the phone in most cases of water damage. That's if the phone is even still under warranty, which probably isn't the case in 99% of water damage cases, which are normally caused by user error or negligence.
As for saying that not everyone would need most of the components replacing; you have no idea what is damaged inside your phone. It could be the case that the entire motherboard needs replacing.

Water damage? Send the phone to be repaired.
Sent from my C6603 using Tapatalk
-Dude, you JUMPED into the water. The extra pressure caused by the jump plus the extra depth you dive in (larger than the one of one meter-written in phone's specs) caused extra pressure, therefore water leaked into your phone. Haven't you read the specs? Up to one meter depth, why did you think they informed you with that?
- check under your flaps (headphones, charger, etc), there is a tiny white strap. If that spot is still white, it means the water got into your phone not through the flaps, so you can claim a faulty device by proving that your flaps were closed the time water got in (this also means not to tell them that you actually jumped into the water with your phone). If your stripes are red, it means that water got into.the phone through your.flaps, therefore you can kiss goodbye your warranty. Next time you get a waterpfroof device read carefully its specifications.
Cheapest way to fix phone in that condition is to buy another one. Original front housing for xperia z is too expencive (touchscreen and lcd r glued together), and probably ur motherboard is damaged as well. As a official Sony servicer I recommend u to buy new phone. And main reason why Sony doestn't service phones damaged with liquid is the one that kingvortex said.
And jumping into the water isn't such a good idea at all man. :\

Dim display trying to light up
Hello,
I've got the same problem. I was jumping with my Xperia Z into the pool and doing random idiotic ideas. Now is the phone functioning properly without any problems. But still there is one problem. My display is extremely dark. I can see on it only in the night. But when I'am playing with the phone more than 5 minutes the display is trying to light up. I set the brightness on maximum. Only 2 times it was on maximum for aproximetly 4 seconds but the phone is still trying to light up to the maximum. What can i do now? Thanks

[Q] Dust between LCD screen and touchscreen

Does anyone have this problem? My Xperia SP, when you looked in a room with lots of light (or in an outdoor environment) it is possible to realize a lot of sand between the touch screen and the LCD panel.
Not to mention my touchscreen, which displays a little "loose" the arc of the phone.
Someone managed to solve it? I've been thinking about dropping my touchscreen without removing your phone (with all care of the world, go through a credit card around the edges to loosen the glue) and then clean the LCD screen and the touchscreen using a soft brush, removing any sand present in that place. Is this a good idea?
Thanks in advance..
I saw a teardown of the phone and the lcd is not glued to the touchscreen this device is really easy to teardown but you won't get further then removing the back cover because of the side screws

I can partially remove the touchscreen without disassembly the phone? Without removing any connector, just to clean the screen.. can i do this?
You have to completely disassemble the phone to separate the digitaliser and the LCD as with most phones manufacturers tend to start with the screen and build up from there is RMA an option because that's the sort of thing covered by warranty

Is really easier? More than disassemble a Xperia Play?
@zenug I have never tried the play but from looking at photos I would say the SP is easier. It's not a difficult phone to disassemble nothing like as hard as certain fruit based phones. Just make sure you go slow there's nothing more frustrating than waiting for a new ribbon to arrive because you damaged one. There are videos on youtube of the teardown. One last thing vv important if it is sand or dust in between the LCD and digitaliser use a can of compressed air to blow it away sand will scratch the glass and ruin the LCD. Fingerprints and smears from cloths are almost impossible to remove. Think fitting a screen protector but cleaner, much cleaner. Try and avoid touching or wiping either surface if possible.
Sent from my C5303 using xda app-developers app
Well, I've cleaned the screen using my ninja technique (passing a card around the screen edges to loosen the glue, I used a brush to clean properly) and not to the problem appears again, I used a kind of "glue" to stick the edges and prevent the entry of dust on the screen. I do not think that is a definite "fix", because it is a McGyver technique that should be resolved by Sony.

Something bizarre on the edge of screen

Hi everyone,
I got my Z3 compact a week ago and all is good, but I just noticed something weird on the edge of the screen, it's like there's a wire or something popping out in the gap between the screen and the frame. This got me wondering if there might be a problem with the water resistance, what do you guys think?
The device is brand new and didn't suffer from any drops or any weird maneuvers, didn't even been tried in water.
Thanks and have a good day.

looks like a misplaced gasket... try the pressure sensor in test mode, open dialer and digit *#*#7378423#*#*, then service tests and pressure sensor... push oh the screen, if the pressure doesn't change even a little bit, your phone is not waterproof and needs to be sent for repair
p.s. when I say push, I mean apply a reasonable force to the screen, not crack it.. if it really is a misplaced gasket, the pressure will be steady.. if not, you'll notice continuous micro-variations in pressure as you hold the phone in your hand
Actually it rises by 3 or 4 millibars and drops back (to lower value than the original) in two or three seconds.. This means it's intact I guess?

I have the same problem with my z3 compact. But it's on the opposite side where yours have occurred. I don't know how much it would cost to get it fixed but I assume it would be a little expensive because I do think they have to replace the whole front LCD+Digitizer that comes with it's own adhesive.
But I'm not bothered about it at all because even when it was still intact, I said to myself that I would never put or drop this phone on the pool or water. I bought myself a protector just incase I want to take underwater pictures.
yes, it seems so.
But if you've just bought it, I'd return it anyway and buy another
Did it happen just like that or was it there since you bought the phone?
I agree with you, not gonna expose it to water, but still it sucks that you have a water resistant phone and you worry about water.

Thanks, I bought it without Sony's garantie because it costs extra, so I don't think they will exchange it. I'm going to keep it since everything else is fine.

That does not sound right. The manufacturer's warranty should cover defective products. You have to pay extra for that? Mine was repaired under warranty (for a different problem) without paying extra for a warranty.
To me it's seem that the screen is a bit high too on the angle, in mine the glass is parallel or maybe a bit lower compared to the frame, yours seems like the glass is higher compared to the frame, how much is the value of millibar?? 10k+ about??

I'm in France and the system of warranty is terrible , they just cover major dysfunctions of the phone (touchscreen not working, defective camera..), when I asked the store about this today they said it's probably some manufacturer installed tool to help open up the phone in case of repair!! could it actually be this??

Actually that's just the protective tempered glass I installed
The value of pressure was around 1004 since I got the phone, today I found it to be 994 but still responding to pressure. Is this normal?

Oh, I see.
No, that is not something to help open the phone. If it were, they would all have it.
It's only been a week, the store should easily be able to exchange it for you. If not, Sony will.
