[Q] Nook HD+ color temperature - Nook HD, HD+ Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have two Nook HD+s and I noticed that white looks different on them. The color temperature is different. Is this something that can be tweaked?

I will be interested too. My HD+ white color looks yellowish. I heard that Nook did it purposely so that it looks nice for reading.

There's programs like Screen Adjuster and SunFilter in the Play Store which may be able to assist you with this.

Nook Color yellow screen tint?

Has anyone else noticed that the screen has a yellow tint to it? I am LOVING this thing (running CM7 with the 1.2 O/C kernel and the vold swap and the Netflix patch) but the yellow tint on the screen is bugging me. Is this just something to expect or should I put it back to stock and go back to BB and trade it in? It turns bright white on FULL brightness but obviously that sucks down battery life.
I don't believe I see the yellow tint you're speaking about on my NC. Is there a particular app where you can easily see it?
Hmm,
Your Nook Color sounds like the expensive 27" Cinema Display from Apple. Doing a quick search on the internet shows a number of IPS display makers occasionally have someone reporting yellowish tints.
I don't know for sure, but this could be design issue of IPS displays that might be more noticeable on some hardware samples.
I also don't notice it, but this could be the difference between the owners perceptions. My spouse cannot handle florescent lighting as the flickering leads to terrible headaches. This means we still use incandescents until we find a better green alternative that doesn't yeild such a huge quality of life impact for her.
That said I don't have the same problems with CFL bulbs. So what might be a perceptible flaw in the display is obvious to you, but not so much to myself or others?
Chalk it up to super vision. Sometimes better abilities yield a terrible burden in ones life
If you can exchange it under warranty and you do see an improvement with another, please let us know. As the search shows, there are others that run into the same problems with Lenovo, Apple and other products using IPS with yellowish tints, so it's not just you.

I know this thread is old as hell and I'm not sure if anyone will even respond but did you ever get this fixed? Mine is doing the same thing and I am thinking of calling in and seeing if I can get it replaced.
I got today a "Certified Pre-Owned Nook" that has this issue. My older Nook Color looks great, the screen is similar to my MacBook Pro but this new Nook Color looks yellowish. Should I get another replacement?

[Q] Nook HD+ Back-Cover Discoloration/Fading

I bought an a Nook HD+ just last week after I couldn't resist the tempting $149 price tag anymore. Quickly flashed it to emmc CM10.1, & it's been running great.
One thing though is that the back case has started to fade & discolor in a weird pattern. It's a little hard to explain, but I've attached a couple not-so-great photos. It's like the overall gray color has given to some dark spots where it looks like the soft-touch plastic is worn, especially up & down the left edge on the same side of the metal ring. the corners on that side are almost completely black now instead of gray. I assumed it's because I usually hold it w/ my left hand along that left-side bezel. However, the fading has spread in a zebra pattern across the entire back casing.
So I was wondering if anybody else has experienced this? Search results on Google mention similar issues with the Nook Color but I couldn't find anything on Nook HD+. Hoping it's just a cosmetic issue but I do notice the bottom-left corner getting pretty hot at times, so I wonder if it's a symptom of a bigger problem. I know quality control isn't the best with these Nooks, as I already had to return the first one I bought (it was brand new but the LCD screen would turn onto this weird abstract painting-like gibberish)
Is this worthy of an exchange or is this just the cost of "getting what I paid for"?

Wow, that looks weird.
Just checked mine (two weeks old, one week in case, flashed to cm 10.1 almost immediately), still looks new.
Was yours in a case?
nope, no case. I just keep it in a faux leather sleeve sometimes when I carry it around. It is definitely odd

Could you have put it down in something? Say someone just cleaned a counter with bleach and didn't clean it off all the way?

[Q] HD+ Uneven backlighting?

Hey all. Had my HD+ for a little while now. Currently running a CM10.1 rom, but noticed it with a few different roms.
Has anyone else noticed uneven backlighting? I see it the most on white screens. While in portrait, there seems to be a brighter area running up and down the center, with slightly greyer areas on the side.
Wondering if it's common to all models, or if I need to exchange mine.
Yeah I seem to have this on mine but only notice it on white screens. I have the 16GB version.

[Q] Maximising battery life

I've looked into various posts about extending battery life and I think I have a good grasp of what to do and what not to do.
However, I have one question for which I couldn't find a definitive answer. That is whether the number of bright vs dark pixels in the display affects battery life on the Nook HDs. From what I've found it seem that a) darker displays indeed do save energy for OLEDs and similar displays and that b) the Nook HD and HD+ have an LCD screen where there are no savings, whatever the brightness of the display. (I'm not talking of lowering the absolute display brightness in the Settings, that of course saves energy.)
This would mean that using darker screen themes on Nook HDs doesn't save one blind bit of battery juice. Right or wrong?
I believe you're thinking about amoled displays usually found in Samsung devices. Our screens are led I think so no energy savings with black.
Yeah, AMOLED seemed to be one type of display where more black pixels prolong battery life.
I take it, then, that for HD/HD+ displays, being no AMOLEDs (are they LCD? LED? does anyone know?), it'll make no difference.
