Hi,I've been using the Xperia Z1 for a month now, and I gotta say it's a wonderful phone. I however, had an accident with it when i dropped to the floor while charging on a dock, desk height yesternight. I didn't notice any damage with it and this morning I put it in my pocket and squatted down while having it in the side pocket. I took it out afterwards and I noticed a slight curve on the frame, the upper part before the end of the micro-usb flap just kinda bended backward. It took me quite awhile to re-bend the frame for it to straighten out (well not exactly, but 95%). Has anyone else experienced this? Mind sharing?

S4 Active. It's been a pretty good phone and my first Android phone. I picked the Active version not because I am "active", but because I am clumsy and break rules around sensitive electronics (*grabs greasy french fry and continues typing, for instance) and because the colors of the TFT display are better in bright sunlight. I do miss the 13MP camera though...
So anyway the most annoying thing about the phone is constantly pulling open the rubber flap that covers the USB port for charging. Today, at some point, the little flap decided to take a vacation and now there is just a little rubber nub. I never pulled on it or twisted it, but I assume with it now missing my water resistance rating is completely nullified. I was hoping it would be a little more durable on par with the rubber flaps that cover the ports on my CANON EOS 20D which have been opened/closed constantly for almost 10 years and don't show a single sign of wear.
Is this part replaceable? OR is there something else I can sub to cover the port and keep at least dust out of there?
Has anyone else had this happen (yet?)
People in thread S4 Active(i9295 and i537) Replacement Parts Page deal with this kind of problems and someone there already asked about usb cover but it's still unanswered.
Thanks! Well at least I found the cover on the floor near my charger at home. I guess I'll just keep it out of the fishbowl :fingers-crossed:
I worry the same way my old samsung rugy pro the flaps felt very good but the active worrys me if it was replaceable easily I would feel bettrt
Hi guys, not quite sure how but I managed to bend my z1, (odd because I'm extremely careful and only ever put it In my breast or side pocket, and am fairly careful) then killed it by going for a bit of a dip with it in my hands (maybe went 0.5m deep), I did not noticed it was bent until closer inspection after I dried it out (rice trick) anyway it works fine now, and I straightened it out (the tiniest bit of pressure brought it straight again, was shocked how easily it bends) but was just wondering if anyone had a pulldown of this thing, I'd like to see where the seals are etc, to make sure nothing would have been put out of place or ruptured. I'm assuming when the phone was bent the seal was spread open.
I tested it in roughly 10cm water for 10 minutes and it works fine still, but was hoping for the guide so I can decide whether I should send it in for repair and straightening or am confident with its abilities as is... Cheers!

Let me get this straight...YOU BENT YOUR PHONE?
Yeah mate, these thing bend very easily, there's a heap of people around with similar issues, it's either not very well reinforced or its the type of aluminium they used. Have.had two aluminium HTC phones before which weren't a problem
Up for service manual
Is Z1 waterproof in seawater also?? i mean ocean and chlorinated water??

It clearly says in the manual not to use in salt water.
I would not use mine in water after having bent it, however just saltwater and a non bent phone is no problem, i do it all the time even tho the manual says not ^^
Take that LG. Sony has the first bendable phone

Mine was bent too suddenly. But it would take a lot of pressure to bend it straight again so I m a little scared of it. No idea how it happened but left top corner is bent down. You can see it- especially on plain surfaces.

OK, despite all adversities with the dock and connection I've had with my TF701T, I'm still very happy with the tablet part of it (despite some software qualms). But this morning when I was clearing out my tablet's screen (by breathing on it and wiping it, I know, not the best thing to do) a spot appeared on it. I've had such a spot come up before but not as large and it would usually disappear in a few seconds. But this time the spot persisted. For a whole day (around 6 hours). I read up on a thread about moisture getting stuck under it but it should evaporate quickly. I thought that the glass might be bent to touch the matrix below it but I dared to turn on the screen and it worked. The spot is less visible on white backgrounds. Here are 2 pictures:

Does anyone have any idea what this might be? Moisture build-up? Bent glass? How do I go around fixing it? Will they accept my warranty or just tell me I broke it myself?
Probably moisture. Just using it (screen on) should take care of it after a while. Or you can try a hair dryer (lowest setting), but don't get it too hot.
I don't think they would fix it under warranty. Unless you have a 3rd party warranty like Squaretrade...
I came back home after a night out just after I posted this thread. I saw berndblb's post and intended to do the blow dryer thing in the afternoon but my tablet was OK when I was back in the early morning. Apparently it was really just moisture and it was alright on its own. I just hope this doesn't happen again. I don't like the idea of having my screen getting wet and probably getting messed up. Good thing I don't live in a jungled area, lol.
This happens to my TF701 as well, fairly regularly. It's not moisture, it's the glass making contact with the touch matrix. I used to somewhat consistently get rid of it by just blowing into the charging port, which would loosen the glass (and disprove the moisture idea as well). Now, I just bend gently from each side and upward in the middle and it unsticks immediately. I also noticed that the upper corners are somewhat loose, which is what leads to the bending in the first place.
It's probably just ASUS's terrible quality control on the TF701. I basically had no problems with my old TF300, but the TF701 and its dock have been riddled with issues and defects.
Thanks
Thanks brother, i just bought windows 8.1 tab in rainy season. My city is hot and humid, so in 2 days i found a big dark spot due to moisture in the center of screen. I read your post and did the same, and got rid of it in just a single blow....... Tanks once again....

So I like just about everything about the Sony Z compact line of phones but durability wise I have been unlucky. My first Z3 compact died from water damage and my 2nd one has a screen that is ready to fall off the device.
I choose to buy a HTC U11 to replace my Z3 compact as I have never owned a HTC phone before and thought I would try something different.
What I would like to ask here though is it worth trying to fix the Z3 compact to sell or not?
The only way to protect this phone:
The phone bends 0.1mm causes the phone screen to start opening. So it's not suitable for jeans pockets.
I remedied this by using an anodized aluminium bumper and tempered glass both sides.
Sony does a very bad repair of it's phones, and the issues will return, and their parts are expensive.
It is better to do it yourself and use B7000 glue, use plenty, easily removable for future repairs, no heat, clothes pegs, wait 48 hours before removing pegs or turning on the phone. And look for the best grade of screen with frame, Sony uses two manufacturers for its screens.
My Z3C has a screen that is lifting. This thread and others seem to indicate that fixing the screen is not hard but hardware is not my thing at all...
Would a phone repair place (in a shopping centre) be able to do this kind of repair? Is the phone much different to other phones that people would take in for screen replacements?
I don't care about the loss of waterproofing. The screen isn't even falling out, just lifted in the corner. I don't want to send the phone anywhere and be without it, or have it come back changed in unexpected ways...

Phone shops including Sony themselves have difficulty in repairing this particular phone, I think any phone shop can do this repair, but, they must use the B7000 glue or similar, or silicone, and not the red tape they usually use, it's useless, as this phone can heat up, or the blue z3c ready cut tape is not so good either. And if you get the wrong screen (clone), the colours will not be as good.
Many phone repairers have the clone screens that are thicker than the original.
The screen sometimes is actually bent, along with the body, check on a flat surface.
Always buy a good screen together attached with the body, and never by itself.
So armed with this knowledge and or hardware, you could go talk with a phone repairer... The first 3 times, shop, but maybe the fourth repair, try doing it yourself, it's as easy as opening a PC, just smaller, just follow z3c repair guides and youtube, when you're ready. When attempting to repair the phone, for the very first time, do it over hours, maybe over the weekend, and not one sitting.
If you start loosing patience, leave it for a while etc.

I got so comfortable with opening my phone, I put extra 0.3mm copper plates on the processor and gpu with Cooler Master Extreme Fusion paste etc. Lol.
But it's good to have an already damaged motherboard to work on.

My screen is still working fine. Just lifting.
I do have some old phones I could practice on, assuming they have the same glass sandwich construction.
I will go look for some videos...

Z3C LOS Omni Oreo
I put up with my screen for a long time but eventually the glue gave out and I had no choice. It was good, then bad, but ultimately ok.
I didn't have any trouble taking the glass off the first time because the glue was barely hanging on. I had a look and noticed that the headphone jack's glue was also failing. Probably why it was becoming unreliable. I glued that and reseated the screen cable and it worked fine while sitting there so I glued everything on again.
It was a poor first attempt. I had both too much glue (blobs that leaked out) and not enough to actually seal around much of the screen. No problem. I took the glass off again and glued it again. This time I followed the instructions closer and glued the front screen before connecting the ribbon.
The second gluing was good but something with the ribbon was wrong because it only worked when I pressed on the lower part of the screen. Sigh.
Taking the glass off after a good glue was much harder. I finally got the spudger under the glass but I moved it sideways before removing the suction thing. It was too much pressure for the glass. The good news is that it was the rear glass and only the bottom half shattered. I got the rest off and started on the front.
Now that I knew to be more careful, I got the front off OK. Reseat. Test and working. I glued the front on first again, without disconnecting the cable. Tested and working. I glued the half back I had on (covers the camera).
Its working!
I use a case so the back isn't even a problem, but I ordered a new back from China (cheap). The headphone Jack seems better. I put a new screen protector on. In some ways the phone is rejuvenated.
I was apparently not careful enough when taking off the screen though. I appear to have some marks on my screen now. It's minor, probably won't notice during normal use, but there if you look.
I'm so glad to have my phone back. I've been using an iPhone for the last 3 weeks.
Thanks for the tips.
Edit: The hands free speaker works again too. Bonus
Hi guys,
has anyone of you tried changing the front glass without digitizer and display?
In disassembly videos I can only see people changing the whole thing.
Also, do you think I can manage to repair the front glas as well as the USB port with just an iron instead of a hot air blower (and the usual tools made of plastic)?
Thanks in advance!

I haven't done the front glass on mine yet, but my understanding is that in general you're really better off replacing front glass as an entire unit with digitizer and display. An iron on pretty low through a cloth/towel might well work. It's not just glue that melts, it's a thin strip of rubber gasket material with adhesive (okay, maybe it's thick glue, but it looked pre-formed to me) holding the glass back cover on.
Heating probably helps a bit with softening the stuff, but after the first time you peel it up you won't really need to do that again. I'd recommend picking a corner (say, bottom left as you're looking at the back) and just plan on prying from there every time, so you only have one spot where the plastic gets marred.
Don't spend too much time heating, worry more about having a suction cup tool that you can lift with while you try to work a guitar pick or hobby knife or something in under the corner. Have at least two ready, so you can wedge one in, and work your way around without it just dropping back down on you. You'll probably tear the material a bit but that's okay, just spread it back out evenly around the edge on the glass before you put the cover back on. Also, you definitely should be using a case to make sure it doesn't just fall off in your pocket once you've opened it up a couple times.
USB cable replacement isn't awful, just time consuming. The biggest gotcha is to keep all three of the little gold clips on the plastic "mid frame" ring (that's the first thing you remove that requires screws after getting the back glass up) from fallling and getting lost.
You can PM me if you have any questions about this, I've replaced my USB cable/port assembly a couple times (first replacement was defective). And I'm about to attempt replacing the screen as a whole unit with glass & digitizer on my wife's Z2 Plus, so I'll let you know how that goes.
