Razr i (Stock) Lost IMEI - RAZR i Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi
I have a stock Razr i that I have owned from new for 3 months. This is one of the unlocked phones Three UK are currently selling on PAYG. The phone was purchased new direct from store.three.co.uk
I have never tried to flash anything on the phone or tried to unlock it. It is completely standard with the latest stock firmware. The phone is using a Three SIM. I did use my old Tesco (O2) SIM for a short while initially to use up my credit before porting and I have also used a voda.es SIM for a week at the beginning of Oct for data while in Spain.
I used the phone several times on Tuesday both for calls and internet and it worked fine.
On Wednesday morning I noticed that the network icon had a red 'no-entry' sign (circle with a strikethrough) and there was no connection either for the phone or internet. I tried the SIM in another phone and it worked and I tried another SIM in the Razr and there was still no network. I completely reset the phone and it was still the same. The phone will not even make emergency calls.
I've spoken to Three/Motorola and they want me to send it to http://sbeglobalservice.com/uk/ for repair which doesn't fill me with joy given the Google review. (My phone is unmarked and 'as new'.)
I arranging above I found that the phone no longer shows an IMEI on the Status page or in response to *#06# so I had to get the number from the label on the box. The 'empty' IMEI is no doubt the reason I can no longer connect to the network. When arranging repair above with Moto, they stressed the need for 'Proof of purchase'. Hmmm!
Has anyone else had a problem like this with this type of phone? Also is anyone aware of a 'safe' method of restoring the IMEI on this phone?
Thanks for reading - Andy

For any repair under warranty POP will be required, so not too sure why “Hmmm!”
Regarding your understandable concerns sending your unmarked “as new” phone in for repair, I would advise the following.
Using a digital camera (borrowing one if necessary) take six clear, crisp photos of your phone (front, back, top, bottom, left and right sides). Email the said pix to the repair centre and explain that this is the condition that you have sent the phone in for repair and politely state that you expect it to be returned in the same condition. I would also advise to have an independent witness to verify that these are the original pix taken prior to despatch should there be any disputes regardng the condtion of the phone when it's returned
I can't help with retrieving your IMEI, but I hope the above is of some help if you do have to send it in. Good luck!

At that stage, I thought the phone might of been blocked but I'm now pretty certain that this is not the case. They kept going on about PoP and it made me think they thought the phone was stolen. Unfortunately, Three sent the new phone out in a plastic courier bag with no paperwork whatsoever. I've now been trying to get PoP from Three since last Wednesday, it's always going to be 'tomorrow'.

Yep, thanks for that. Have already taken loads of hi-res photos of phone in good daylight. Several of them show the status screen with Ser No & MAC with the same shown on the box label placed alongside the phone. I have also already aired my concerns with Motorola via email.

Hi
Just to update the thread on this issue. My phone has now returned from SBE after repair and it works and is in immaculate condition.
The paperwork says software upgrade and new case. I did mention my concerns about SBE's reputation to Motorola when they asked me to send the phone to them and I also mentioned in my covering letter to SBE that the phone was as new.
Most satisfactory outcome. :fingers-crossed:

Sorry to bump the thread, but we've only just seen this. Thanks for your feedback. We pass all comments (both positive and negative) back to our internal teams and advise them on how to improve, so we find anything like this quite valuable. We hope your phone is working correctly and you're happy with your repair.

UK repair times

Hi guys,
So finally, the power button issue has got too bad and my N1 is going back for repair with HTC UK. The courier is picking it up tomorrow AM. Anyone know how long I'll have to wait before I get it back?
I'll be playing with my wifes N1 while its away, but its just not the same.
Thanks,
Scarygore.
Hi,
Mine was confirmed received by HTC UK on Wednesday 25th last week. Its still with them, and all the online repair status says is:
"We have completed our diagnostic tests and have a quotation ready for your review."
And then when clicking on this:
"There are no active quotations for this ticket. If you have any questions please contact the customer support."
I phoned customer support on Friday but they were not able to tell me anything at all...
I'm hoping for an update tomorrow.
The repair is for the powerbutton also.
When I sent mine in, it was collected on a Monday and back in my hand on the Friday. Can't fault them.
Was it yours or a replacemet though, cause thats different
It was my phone, repaired.
Thanks for your replies.
The UPS guy picked it up an hour ago.
I going to miss it!
Scarygore,
Any news on your repair? HTC still has mine :-/
Cheers
No news so far, the online tracker says they have recived it but thats all. Anyone know how to get Froyo to run on a Samsung Tocco?
The waiting sucks.
Bakachu did you get yours back, did you have to pay? I got exactly the same message on mine, dont know if I want to phone as have unlocked bootloader. They should repair FOC though as a hardware fault. If not I will complain to my CC company and get them to refund me the phone. This is my second repair as had a dust issue early on.

I have just got off the phone with HTC UK.
They tell me that they put “quotation” on the tracker until they investigate why the fault has occurred. I should phone back in a few days after the engineer has investigated.
So fairly confident this should be repaired under warranty as the phone looks brand new.
Mines still going under repair.
Numerous calls to HTC end up with a 'repairs take 14 working days' standard line.
However, the status on the web page has changed from 'quotation ready' to 'we are repairing your phone'
Mine was unlocked too, even with a couple of scratches, but there's no way I would accept responsibility for this design flaw. From what I understand, HTC is quite good at fixing obvious hardware issues under warranty on unlocked phones. Even this showed up in a blog a couple of days ago:
http://www.androidguys.com/2010/09/08/manage-nexus-broken-power-button/
All this waiting is making me eye up the G2 some more.... mmmm!
Acording to UPS mine arrived at 10am Wednesday. The status changed a week ago on HTC's site to 'we have recived your phone at HTC service centre'. Two days after it actually got there. Since then, nothing.
I would have thought that as it's a known issue they could just send out a refurb. I know in the US they will do that.
I'm not impressed with the service so far, it wasn't cheap in the first place and I'm left using a two year old Samsung piece of (insert explitive here).
It's not even rooted, totaly stock with a factory reset before i parcelled it up.
Well I phoned up to chase.
They have had the phone at their site for 4 working days, and I am told to expect to have it in a further 8 working days. Will mean 3 weeks without my exspensive phone.
They also stated that my phone was listed as out of warranty but asked me if that was the case, I told them definitely not. They said the engineer will begin work once he has proof of purchase, I asked what I am required to do they said just wait till I get it back.
They also told me their computer systems are currently not working properly so the online tracking may be wrong. So its just a long wait until I get the phone back.
I have my phone back in my hands now!
It's been rewiped and bootloader has been relocked.
bakachu,
Glad to hear you've got it back. If mine takes as long as yours I'll recive it in about a week.
Did they have to replace the screen? I heard of on instance were they did change the screen when it was sent in for the power button fault.
If mine comes back with an S-LCD screen I'll go mental.
Screen + everything else exactly the same Even still has my screen protector in perfect condition on it!

How can you check?
Mine was collected last Tuesday for a cracked screen repair.
Was delivered to them by UPS on Wednesday and all the online tracker says is received.
I've tried calling a few times and they've said that there is a bit of a back log of repairs at the moment.

I believe it's obvious if you turn it on in the dark next to a standard screen. A lot of light leaks around the sides.
I'll just compare it to my wife's when I get it back.
Hope the repair times speed up for you.

So when I get my quote for the repair should I enquire if it will be S-LCD?
My other option if it is is to get it back, send it to my mobile phone insurer and get it repaired/replace/cash through them.

Maybe you should try Youtube for comparison video's and see how much it would bother you.
A user named 'Rusty!' posted a link to one somewhere on here. I can't look for it at the moment, I'm still at work and Youtube is barred.

[Q] Where to get I-9000M Fixed in Toronto/GTA while unlocked on Rogers??

Hi everyone.
Like myself, I'm sure a lot of you LOVE this phone, and, again like myself, bought it and unlocked it to use with Rogers and don't have the option of taking it to Bell to get it fixed after this fiasco of a fried internal sd. So we're potentially stuck with the most beautiful brick in our hands right now, knowing what it is fully capable of.
If anyone else has been in these same exact shoes (fried internal sd, unlocked on Rogers, no Bell option to fix - regardless of before or after 2.2 update) and has gotten their phone repaired, could you please lend a helpful post to the community and recommend to us where you got it fixed, how long it took, and how much it cost? I live in Toronto, and I'm looking for Toronto/GTA options to get it fixed.
This is by far the best phone I have ever used, and would love to get it working again soon.
Thanks!

Bring it to bell
I believe bell is obligated to take your phone and send it for repair, given you have the receipt.
There have been a number of people in your situation where they purchased it off contract to use on another carrier and have sent it into bell for repair when it bricked.
one example I found. says he got bell to honor the warranty.

just prepare yourself to be without your phone for a while. i send my phone in on December 3rd and parts for repair are apparently on back order until January 3rd
BTW you can check repair status here.

o and i would leave out the fact that you unlocked your phone too.....dont want to give them a reason to not send it for repair now do we.
all the informations are one of those long internal sdcard dead threads. it's been repeated over and over in those threads...
Just curious, any reports of someone in the US getting I9000M warranty honored?

Contact Samsung Canada directly. Word is that they are starting to take repairs as well.
Androiderer and Beast, and everyone else, thanks for the helpful replies!!
I decided to just go through Samsung Canada themselves, and I wrote the following in one of the other threads:
Samsung Electronics Canada Inc.
1-800-726-7864
Second call got through, first went to voicemail, redialed right away. Talking to them now.
So during the call, I was told that I would have to take the phone back to where I bought it and send it in from there. I then advised the guy I was talking to that I had read that other people were able to get Samsung to send out the shipping label and do the repair. He double checked and confirmed it, and is in the process of preparing the repair order right now. Have the phone handy, because they will ask for the phone's Serial Number (S/N) behind the battery. 7-14 days business days is the estimated repair time, and no cost. He estimated the label will take about 24 hours or less to be e-mailed to me. Hope this information helps. All told the process took about 20 minutes, depending on the knowledge of the csr.
Good luck everyone....
Doing it this way, I never had to leave the warmth of my office lol. The phone is now in a box with the label, waiting to be picked up.
LUCKILY I hadn't sold my old HTC Tytn II Kaiser that I have Android flashed on, so I don't have to go Android-less!! Man that phone is so reliable...it's a massive brick, but so reliable...I was going to sell it, but now I think it will remain a permanent mainstay as my trusty Android backup phone. I may even consider getting another HTC phone for Android, and sell this Samsung Jekyll and Hyde machine :S
Again, thanks everyone for your help.

Anything special you said in your conversation? I called Samsung twice and they did not know about the whole shipping label via email thing, insisted on going to the service provider.
Hey that's great news. let us know how long it takes to get your phone back.

Insurance repair incompetence...

I have mobile phone and gadget insurance included with my bank account and recently had to use it as my HTC HD2 went faulty.
I am a fairly experienced ROM flasher and have been creating my own WM 6.5 based ROMs for a while. When the fault started to happen (signal deteriorating and then constantly searching, sometime coming back after a soft reset, sometimes not) I spent a couple of days trying to resolve the issue myself. This included factory resetting, restoring the official ROM, installing a myriad of Radio ROMs, cleaning the internal GSM antenna contacts etc. All to no avail so I was pretty certain it was a hardware fault.
Lifestyle Services Group are the providers of the insurance and repair services and what a palaver. I sent it back in October and included a detailed description of the fault. It was returned a week later and as far as I can tell completely untouched with a note saying repaired. It wasn't. I contacted them and they apologised and said they would send out a pre-paid envelope and I should return it in this. When it arrived I thought 'oh no' as the pre-paid address had '2nd Return' written on it - obviously quite common for them not to get repaired first time then?
It has just arrived this morning and they have now removed the screen protector but the handset is still faulty It looks like they have tried to make it look like a new handset - one acronym IMEI? I contacted them and they said 'sorry we'll replace it now as it has been returned twice, here is a different department to send it to. Can you put a note in with the repair reference and what the postal cost is so we can refund it'
Now if only the Royal Mail online thing was working.....
Rant over
Andy
It's unlikely to be your insurance company doing the repair so I wouldn't pin the blame on them. They will have a contract with a company, probably OEM, to repair faults. Now you mention HTC; take a look at BBC's Watchdog site and take note on HTC: http://www.bbc.co.uk/blogs/watchdog/2011/10/htc_phones.html
In all fairness they have been reasonably quick to return the phone, however it is the total lack of doing anything with it or at least providing a report of what they supposedly did with it that is annoying. I received a generic letter both times I got it back that stated something like 'your phone has been repaired and tested based on the faults you outlined to us' There is no evidence that they have even taken it apart or even a fault report from the engineer who 'repaired' it.
I am sure they receive a lot of handsets that all they require is a factory-reset or a new battery, however I went out of my way to troubleshoot the issue and arrived at the conclusion that it was a hardware fault. I returned it to them as stock and factory reset with a detailed explanation of the fault included so they should have at least taken this into consideration when looking at the fault.
If I get another fault (when I eventually get a working phone back...) I will just say I lost it and put it in the bin rather than go through this again.
Andy
Well i am with LSG and when i dropped my zte blade in coke then claimed they couldn't fix it,i wanted the same phone again as i liked it but nope they couldn't offer me that i was given a crap selection! Was disappointed they couldn't offer the same phone. I just hope they don't do that to me in future!

[Q] Tell if it was unlocked?

When you boot it from powered off it says device unlocked in the top left corner of the first boot screen. Unlocking is a one way ticket on these devices. Once unlocked you CANNOT relock it.
Thank you

I bought one unlocked on eBay.Right out of the box the touch screen was almost completely unresponsive. I opened a chat session on the Asus web site, told the rep what was wrong and specified that the tablet was unlocked. He asked me to reset it one more time, and when that didn't work he said that it was under warranty and gave me an RMA. Two days after they received it their web site said it was repaired and I had a FedEx tracking number, and now it's on the way back. So far it's been an excellent customer service experience. I can't speak for every circumstance but I'm impressed with them. (I don't work for them or have any affiliation of any kind.)
This was in the U.S. Based on my anecdotal experience I'd recommend being up front that it's unlocked (they know anyway) and be extra friendly and polite, both in the chat and on the form you fill out. I'll post back on Thursday when it comes back.
In case it's of interest to anyone in a similar situation, I got my tablet back yesterday in perfect working condition, still unlocked. When something is done well I like to encourage it by pointing it out. The service was fast and friendly and no issue was made of the tablet being unlocked. I had to decide whether to RMA it or return it to the eBay seller, and I really didn't want to make the seller deal with it since it was working when they sent it to me. (Good ratings - I trust them.) It worked out well for everyone.

Be aware of the fraudulent Chinese company Fascardtech!

Be aware of the fraudulent Chinese company Fascardtech! I purchased a smartphone a year ago from Fascardtech and and the phone has never worked properly. The sound would not work unless I had my finger pressed against the back cover. Everything else seemed working. I returned the phone for an exchange/repair. About a month later I was told that the phone does not work at all and guarantee does not apply! I was shocked since everything beside the sound worked when I sent the phone back.
A month of an exhaustive e-mail communication followed. At the end Fascardtech suggested to either repair the phone for $80 or send it back to me for $22 without any repairs.
Despite my huge disappointed with the customer service I agreed to the $80 repair cost.
About three months later I have received an e-mail update reading the phone returned from repair and has not been fixed and is therefore being sent for a repair once more.
One month later another e-mail came claiming 12 month warranty period is over and the phone has not been fixed. Meanwhile another damage somehow happened to the phone, the display cracked but they are willing to send me a new phone, even a newer model, if I pay a fee.
At this point I finally understood that there is no point to continue in this nonsense and that the company is fraudulent! However, they sent my phone back at the end - with missing cover, screws and other components. After difficulties I booted the system, which seemed to be functional, although the sound system was again not working. I have also found data of another person hence I assume the phone has been switched.
Please be aware of the highly unprofessional manners of Fascardtech, make yourself a favor and stay away!
