Hello all,
This is my first post and request for help, I apologise if this is in the wrong section and would gladly abide if anyone tells me what I've done wrong. Moving onto the problem, I would appreciate if anyone could provide suggestions on how I might tackle the problem.
Problem:
When I turn on my HTC One as a portable wifi hotspot, devices that try to connect to it will always have an authentication problem.
While it lists the number connected users on the HTC One, the device that connects to the HTC One does not have any internet connection or event shows itself as connected to the HTC One.
On the other hand, I know it's an authentication problem because I tried connecting it to a laptop and that's what the laptop lists the error as.
Extra: I am sure that prior to this the portable hotspot works fine. I doubt there’s any application I have that interferes with the functionality of the portable wifi but do let me know. If you think it’s a hardware problem then it should be under warranty. I tried connecting it to a Nexus 7 (2013), iPhone 5, and a laptop.
What I’ve tried: Turning on and off the phone, Turning of Tasker, Closing all programs I would really appreciate the help because I’ve tried searching for similar topics and have not found any.
Please help if you have any suggestion on what I could try, at least before I go to the phone provider to claim warranty or the likes.
EDIT: I can connect to the internet on my mobile data and I have 1gb of data allocated.
I posted this on reddit as well but as a new user, I can't put outside links.
I am having the exact same problem and its driving me wild. I recently had my HTC one replaced due to a fault and the new handset has this problem. I haven't tested it with any other devices but my Toshiba Excite Pro tablet.

I purchased my TYTN II a week ago today, but did not get around to moving my sim over from my Trinity until last friday. when i did everything went well, it synced fine and i got all my data over from my Trin. It wasn't until i came to use the wifi that i noticed a problem! I turned on wifi in comm manager and it quickly found my router (British Telecom HomeHub). I launched IE and the HTC default page came up, so i changed it to google. Then i tried to go to one of the pages from my favorites, but all i get is a message saying "THIS PAGE CAN NOT BE FOUND" or it just times out! so i tried typing in the page and got the same result. So i checked the settings/connections/wifi and compared them to the settings on my Trin. Everthing was fine, though the Trin did have a stronger signal than the T II. So then i checked wireless Lan and all of the settings seemed o.k.
So today i called HTC u.k. to explain the problem, and to be honest the guy i spoke to was quite helpfull. they are going to investagate the problem and get back to me, i HOPE!
Has anyone else had this problem? if so could you please let me know asap so i can let HTC know i'm not the only one.
and one other thing, has anyone else had that stupid charger with there phone?
look forward to any replies
So, is the problem that one phone has a better WiFi signal than the other?
i wish
No it's not. it seems that the T II has a problem with the actual wireless radio, as it won't even download my emails through wifi
Either your WiFi radio isn't working, or you have a configuration issue. Config wise it could be any number of issues: proxy, router, security, etc. I mean, it could be a defective phone. but not knowing how proficient you are with networking, and it being a new phone to you, it could be config issue.
maybe
i did check all the conection settings next to my Trin, and all seems fine. there is another post here titled WIFI DOA i think maybe that guy may have a simular issue
Just FYI, my WiFi grabs email and access the NET, it does it all just fine.
I also switch between 2-5 routers per day and it latches onto every router with no intervention rom me.
reset
I've even done a H/R and numerous S/R and still no joy
If you are sure it is setup correctly, send it back for a replacement. I have no troubles with an almost OUT OF THE BOX setup.
I also have a problem with the wifi, sometime its work and other no response.
I can get the IP but I am not able to browse using IE.
when I am still using Eten M700 I naver have this problem, and i use it very often.
I never need to change the wifi setting.
The error message sounds like a proxy configuration issue. It might be that your router is running in a mode that needs you to set up a proxy, or it might be that you have a proxy configured on the PDA which is incorrect.
You can probably get more help here if you paste the exact configuration information from the PDA, and some configuration information from whatever computer you have and that connects correctly to the Internet through the router. Of course do not include the passwords ;-)
I had exactly the same problem with my new last week TyTN II.
I read this fix from another forum and my wifi now connects perfectly, displays any web page and downloads my emails.
Within settings go to connections, then wireless LAN, within W Lan go to power mode and change the settings from best battery to best performance.
All should now be well.
Hey guys, yes I've searched and read almost every post about Wifi and was wondering to see how many people are able to get Wifi connected or is my unit just defective. I've tried all tips people were giving and still no luck. Most of the time it'll be able to see what wireless router is available but when I try to connect it'll show unavailable. First I thought it was my router acting all weird, it's a Zoom ADSL by the way, but sometime I'll be out and locate an open unsecured router and it'll show the same thing when I try to connect. After a couple of second it'll show available again and same thing try to connect and becomes unavailable. Once in a blue moon it'll connect but once I turn it off and try the connection again it'll say unavailable. Is there something I'm doing wrong with my setting or is it just a defective Wifi. Like I said in the DOA thread at home I don't get 3G so Wifi would be a much better option but this bug here is really starting to frustrate me. All my other Wifi product works cept for this TILT. I use to have the stock TILT 1.57 - 12.17 rom and radio and now using the DUTTY touchFlo Beta2. Thanx for any help and I know this is probably one of many Wifi thread but I just wanted to get this frustration off my chest.
Hello everyone!
I just received a X1 from Rogers yesterday as my previous phone got busted and this was available as one of their replacements. It's a lot to take in but i'm getting along the path of modding this and flashing it. My current issue though is with the WiFi. I am trying to connect to my home network but it's not seeing it. It finds my neighbors which is puzzling. Another oddity is that my iPod touch and laptop can easily see the router and are able to login once the password is put through. Other people who have come over in the past are able to get on as well.
Any idea why this might be happening?
The router is a Linksys WRT160Nv2 if that helps any.
Thanks in advance!
Find Wifi Power Mode,Switch it to Best performance.
My router is wrt300n v2 and my phone is atom v,I have same problem
Hey guys,
The WiFi on my Droid 3 keeps disconnecting for some unknown reason. I'm using a virtual hotspot on my PC with MaryFi.
I've also tried Connectify, but the same thing keeps happening. Ad-hoc mode connects, but I can't use the internet when I set up the Ad-hoc connection.
Please help!!
Anyone!!?? Please help guys!
I would be really thankful if someone can find the time to help. I really need Wifi to work properly.
I have tried it with other phones as well and it does the same disconnecting thing. Please help!
If it does it with other phones, the problem is probably originating from your computer
EDIT: is there another signal in the house interfering with the computer? With an older router, the signal would freeze when we got a phone call on the wireless landline
Also, asking repeatedly for help is kind of impolite on forums. People have to go out of their way to help
No other wireless routers in the house. I'm thinking this is a software problem, but uninstalling and reinstalling didn't help.
I apologize if I caused any inconvenience. I didn't realize I was breaking any rules.
im also having this issue. I have a dead pixel on the screen, and the gps takes FOREVER to lock. my wifes doesn't have any of these issues. im calling Monday to get mine replaced. I think mine may have been a referb, the ear speaker is also kind of crooked and light leaks around the screen.

Hey,
So I am having serious wifi issues since I installed my Google Home. I use a chromecast too, but I think it's safe to say that it's the Home device that f-ed up wifi network.
I did read all the articles back i January/February that I was not alone with the issue, and as far as I understand - Google rolled out a fix about a month ago.
However, I am still having issues. My wifi drops for no reason (on all devices at the same time, phones included) for a few seconds and then comes back up. I've tried rebooting the router, and updating firmware on the router but no help. Today I pulled the plug to the Google Home until this has been fully resolved.
I love my Home and would like to have it connected. Did the correction that Google rolled out solve it for everyone else here or does anyone still have issues - or is it just me?
How can I see what firmware/software I am running on the Home? I have obviously tried to ask it, but it responds "this is not supported yet".
Any ideas?

I had the same problem on my main router, so I tried connecting it to my secondary router, and it worked, but since that one was supposed to be for the other part of the house, I got a cheapest used router I could (doesn't even support n standard) and created a separate network with different SSID, now I use it only to connect google home devices, chromecasts and other smart home wifi devices, and it works (it still uses my main router's DHCP server, and network, it is just AP with a different SSID), oh and I use channel 6 on that router btw.

Ok, i feel my networking knowledge can come handy here! Lol. Home, three chromcasts, firetv, firestick x2; Nghthawk x8000->asusrtac68u->lan2wanWNR1000(for old 2nd gen sony bluray dlna and one roomstreaming)+wirelessLinksysEA6350->asusrtac88u. Yes, intriguing network! 6bdrm 3300sqft house. Biggest ever afforded! So, needless to say i pay TWC for 100Mbps, capping at 230mbps on the rtac68u ethernet bridge to wired desktop! All running my own modified compiled tomatousb. Linksysea6350 is ddwrt, kongbuild and a PIA so thats w/e stock kong wanted. Well safe to say ive been at making all this work!! What i need from you is topology and setup, running broadcoms or others? I find broadcom way easier to mess with. Second, you running custom or boxed units? And third is the google products subnetted (more of a b***h if you ask me!) And connected 2.4 or 5? N or AC? And how are you allocating resources? IE using QOS or similar? If you can't answer those im need (if unboxed and freed) "logcats", iptables, etc.. more than safe to say, the home not the culprit in sense to it "drowning" out the wifi band, but could for drown resources, IE low grade hardware, hardware beginning stages of failure and one extra workhorse did it, RAM, eMMC, getting the gist? Im gonna say w/slight certainty you might be rebooting not wifi actually cutting out. You also could if custom firmware corrupted something that the home doesnt like. But wont know w/out the numbers to look at. All i got from you is, either a LAN2LAN or bridge as i read your main hib is the DHCP, and is the SSID you "created" a subnet? And your "30" dollar router also could not be up to task.
And sorry if the reply is anything not right, first post ever here! Years of only reading lol. And something wrong with my cheap phone cracked screen phone replacement everytime keyboard is opened! Doubt its this website. my pixel xl tried to drive on the interstate outside of my car...so sad.. just know im gonna punch this phone or throw from the anger ive gained trying to type and the sign-in to post.. thank you.
Similar solution worked for me
I use a dedicated connection for all things GH related. This stopped the wifi dropout.
