[Q] did I understand this right? - One (M7) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I've read plenty of guides and I'm familiar with rooting having possessed htc hero, gnex, s3 and other Android phones. However sometimes I feel htc is bit trickier than others due to cid hboot modelid. So I figured I need a confirmation of my understanding.
My aim is to get stock rom that will get the updates without delay with future possibility of converting to GE.
So these are the things I need to do
1. Get unlocked
2. S-off, I have 1.54 hboot
3. Get ruu stock either U or UL version as both run on GSM, I have the Asian Version PN0711000 and cid J15.
4. Change cid to 001 which corresponds to international version and usually gets latest updates.
And this would be pretty much it right?
And concerning GE
1. Be soff and unlocked
2. Change cid to Google edition one
3. Run the ruu for Google edition one.
There is something I get confused with, when would I need to change my modelid? Do I need to downgrade?
Thanks in advance

if you want to receive OTA update your MID need to match the variant version ''U'' or ''UL''. Your MID is currently PN0711000 for a ''U'' variant of HTC One. If you want to install a ''UL variant'' RUU like x.xx.401.x version you need to change your MID from PN0711000 to PN0710000. if you dont change your mid, you will be able to run the ruu, download ota. but it will not install and give you this error:

How to change MID explained in this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2322820 do this step before RUU
I did it for my One M7_U and this is very simple, just take your time and be sure of every step when changeing MID.

[Q] Manually update stock ROM instead of OTA

Hi guy,
I have my IncS running on 2.3.3, previously i have s-off my device, as i read there is a thread that saying if need to have the OTA update for 2.3.5, i have to restore back the stock ROM.
So i try to check the stock ROM thread ([ROMs]Incredible S Shipped ROMs Collection) but i don't seem to find my stock ROM is the collection, but then i found this
RUU_VIVO_SENSE30_S_HTC_WWE_3.08.405.3_Radio_20.4802.30.0822U_3822.10.08.28_M_release_227170_signed.exe,
So i just wonder, is that possible for me directly restore this stock ROM directly?
since this rom is 2.3.5.
FYI, my device software number is 2.30.707.1, baseband version 20.2811.30.085AU_3805.09.03.27_M.
Thanks.

If you are S-OFF using Revolutionary, then trying to run the RUU will not work successfully because the Revolutionary S-OFF HBOOT will not allow the RUU to overwrite it and the stock ROM will only run and boot if you have HBOOT 2.00.0000.
In the Development section there is a pre-rooted version of this stock ROM which you can flash on a Revolutionary S-OFF. This gives you the advantage of trying it out without losing S-OFF and if you don't like it, just flash another custom ROM.
Hi tpbklake,
Thanks for the reply, just another stupid question, so far i see the HBoot version, is either 1.13 or 1.09, but when i check mine which s-off using Revolutionary,

The Revolutionary S-OFF process implemented S-OFF by using a modified HBOOT and they made their's version 6.13.0000 to prevent overwriting it with a 'lower' version number and thus losing S-OFF when an official HTC OTA/RUU comes out.
That version number is what will prevent you from successfully installing the 3.08.405.3 RUU because the RUU will attempt to load HBOOT 2.00.0000 (lower version number) on a phone that has HBOOT 6.13.0000.

Follow the OP's guide of updating firmware to 2.24.401.1(On 1st post)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2182823
Also, you need matching CID(HTC__001, HTC__Y13 etc) and MID(PN0710000)
In order to change your cid: fastboot oem wirtecid HTC_001(any of the compatible CID)
And change ur mid: fastboot oem writemid PN0710000 or follow http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2322820

No root,no custom rom.STOCK!
Where is it???does it have ?
What is your CID?
Has the update been rolled out to your CID yet?
Has the update been rolled out to your region yet?
Is it carrier branded?
Has your carrier released an update yet?
If you're completely stock, the answer to one of those is probably no.

Don't worry dude. I had same thing with my HTC until I flashed it. I suppose you have chinese version for developers. Check you CID, I have 11111111 that's why you can flash it as you want. It comes with custom recovery.
I'm having the same issue, its stock dual sim not carrier version.
how to wait for HTC? not getting you.
its running 4.1.2 now

are you sure it's stock?
1- check your bootloader screen for signs of tampering (S-Off, CID #, etc)
2- check your "fastboot getvar all" (remove IMEI and s/n, if you're going to post it here)
I'm guessing as it's Chinese, and they don't like people doing things themselves, that they've disabled the software update feature on the phone in their build

There is a way to root them so they could've easily bought from someone that did it all before selling it...I believe these are also missing the Play Store IIRC
Having said that, I could be getting confused with the Mexican Ones that didn't have the Play Store
Use computer to update.

you need to use rumrunner with hboot 1.55 (or 1.54), revone only works with hboot 1.44

yes, rumrunner:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2487888 and http://rumrunner.us/
you may need to change ROMS, as you need a close to stock ROM (AFAIK), and same or close to your firmware, since you're on hboot 1.55, you might wanna flash one of the 3.xx Guru Resets: http://www.htc1guru.com/downloads/stock-rom-downloads/
select ROOT, unselect "stock recovery"
then use rumrunner
hit thanks if i've helped

Remove the first picture as it contain your IMEI #, this number should always stay private.
Same procedure applies to your phone for rooting:
unlock the bootloader
flash twrp recovery 2.8.7.0
boot in recovery and exit, you'll be prompted to install root, select "yes" and reboot.
Or
unlock the bootloader
flash any custom recovery of your choice
flash supersu2.46 zip using your recovery
reboot

If you have a GSM variant of the M7 (M7_U or M7_UL) you can flash all gsm roms from this forum (I can see that yours is a M7_U btw). Don't forget that newer roms based on lollipop requires the latest firmware to be installed on your phone 7.xx.xxx.x (you are also on 7.xx.xxx.x so thats fine). Also make sure you are using the correct recovery version (specified in most rom threads) to flash the rom. Stay away from CDMA roms (like sprint M7WLS) they will soft brick your phone.
Thnx alot
One more thing plz
How to identify which variant I've?? U or ul?
I know as you told i am on u btw
Your version end with 7.18.709.120 meaning you are running a M7_U software version. M7_UL version ends with .20 only (7.18.709.20)
If you reboot in bootloader mode you can also see your model number U or UL
and if you use "fastboot getvar all" you'll have all the info about your phone probably a M7_U with MID PN0711000
