[Q] xperia zr : backup stock rom before custom rom ? - Sony Xperia ZR

Hi all,
after reading stuffs about custom rom's, root, cyanogen, ClockWorkMod, backup nandroid etc...
It's a bit confused in my head, and I have some noob question.
So far I have unlocked my xperia ZR (C5503).
1) Before playing with customs ROM's is there a safe way to backup my phone (firmware/kernel/other stuff) ?
Like a dd command in linux ?
I read that CWM recevory can backup the system. To install that recovery I have to root the phone as describe here ?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2327472
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2427995
2) As I understand, there are several CWM version, and I have to find the good one that deals with my stock kernel ? Right ?
3) About the stock firmware:
can I flash the right version "310" regardless the customization ? or the file system region "global" or else ?
4) Once I get a backup of my phone.
How can I restore the backup after using a custom ROM.
I have to flashtool the original kernel ? root > CWM > restore my nandroid backup ?
Thanks in advance for those quite general question.
Sony xperia ZR C5503
android 4.1.2
Build 10.1.1.A.1.310
File system : GLOBAL-LTE_10.1.1.A.1.310
customization : 1276-1253_R1A

[Q] CWM OR Xrecovery ? , What to do in order to install GingerDX ?

Ok, so i have this ****ty SE \ My provider's ROM.
Really bad, the phone is so slow and takes like few minute to even turn on.
can't run games and everything lags. (including the launcher)
This means i need a better ROM.
I can't Have any Kernels Other then the stock one, because i can't unlock my Boot loader because my manufacturing date is :11w31 , so i will probably brick my phone if i will try.
Meaning i need a custom ROM that works with the Stock Kernel, Us i understand the best for daily use is GingerDX, as it is fast working and has a lot of features and it's based on CM7 (which i very much love , have it on my ARC).
So my questions are:
1.My Baseband is M76XX-TSNCJOLYM-53404015, Do i need to install any SE ROM before i Root my phone ? If yes how do i do it ?
2.What is better , CWM OR Xrecovery ? (for GingerDX) (Can you allso link me to a guide) ?
3.Do i need to install GAPPS with GingerDX ? (Couldn't find any link in the thread)
Thanks in advance.

1. No
2. Version 013 and older is installing with xrecovery and version 014 and newer is installing with CWM Recovery ( ClockworkMod Recovery for Xperia X8 )
3. No
The baseband ends with 015, so you don´t have to install any other SE ROMs.
GDX can only be installed with CWM, at least the new ones, and you won´t need the old ones.
Have a look at the X8-FAQ and/or the X8 Toolbox, as this thread provides you the easiest method to get CWM and xrecovery, so you can have both ones.
And no, they are included, but I´d suggest you to install EVERY system app you don´t need with Titanium Backup.
This app can also do much more pretty good things.
Thanks every body,
i got everything besides
"but I´d suggest you to install EVERY system app you don´t need with Titanium Backup.

?
What system apps ?
How do i install CWM ? It says in the thread
"
Installation
see attachments
- "Amend" should be flashed by xRecovery
- "Edify" should be flashed by the previous CWM recovery
"
Does it means i have to install xRecovery first? then CWM ?

[Q] How to upgrade and downgrade from GB to ICS ?

Dear All
I have 2.3.6 GB stock rom with root and Franco #10 Kernel, and want to upgrade to ICS
the update is not available to my region, so I downloaded the German one (Europe region)
I made a full nand backup to use it just in case of any failure , and did a complete apps and data backup by Titanium Pro for all my apps and data
I read in several threads that I can do the upgrade via Odin PC ore Odin Mobile Pro (I have both and used both in previous upgrades)
My questions are the following:
1- I read that the ICS rom is non wipe, so which wipes should I do to keep my apps and settings and have in same time a no problems upgrade?
2- If I flash this another region rom, and later on my region ICS stock rom is there, can I FOTA update my G Note with my original region rom over the non-region rom?
3- I read also that Iam going to lose my root and I should use another file to root the ICS, so which file should I use? I must have root for some needed apps.
4- If I did not like the new ICS (for any reason) can I use my nand backup to go back to my GB rom (downgrade)? would it be as any restore I did before? If I do this restore should I find my root and my Franco kernel back or should I flash them back?
Thank you and best regards
Any reply

First of all use mobile odin to flash with ever root option... Then ul have ics stock with root... If it gets stuck at boot then u may have to do wipe.... If it boots up without any problem then ul have all the apps...
Regarding the ota... When u have root u wont be able to upgrade... And if u r not rooted then ul receive update to the firmqare to qhich u flashed... I mean if u flash a rom of india then ul receive updates of india only...
Regarding the ics to gb i too have no idea... But as far as i know... Bootloadera of gb and ics are different so dont mess with it.. Ul end up in bricking ur dwvice

[Q] hi couple of questions regarding my xperia z..

2) My Xperia version was c6602 and it had original stock rom and everything...
3) Recently now I've installed the cyanogen mod 10.1.2 and it worked...however my android firmware version is still 4.2.2 but the phone model is changed from c6602 to 6603...Really wierd...!!!
4) please tell me how to get back to stock rom as i havent got any backup...
5) When i had installed the XZrecovery ( TWRP ) recovery...!!! i had the back up installed on my phone and now i cant install that idk what to do..!!
please help me...!!!
Any advice/guide/help will be really appreciated..!!!!
At unlocking BL you modified your TA partition, so Bravia Engine 2 doesn't work anymore.
If you want to revert back to stock you need:
Flashtool(FT)
A .ftf File(FlashToolFile, this contains the whole System of the phone)
Some time(it will take up to an hour for everything set up correctly)
A Windoze Box
So you need to get your device in Flashmode, then flash the stock ftf with FT, and finally relock bootloader.
If you need more info, just ask

[Q] Step By Step : How to [ Root + CWM + ROM ] Xperia Z1

First of all, I'd like to apologize to start this open question.
It looks like everyone is getting their phone working without any much extra tutorial required along with the XDA forum guides and ROM.
I used to be a Samsung Galaxy S2 user from months ago.It took me 5 days to have my S2 Rooted and another 5days to have a stable ROM, as I was a noob back there and still a noob till now at the time I am writing or as you are reading this post.
Frankly, I'm actually lost here. I tried to visit all the links within the first 3 pages to find out how to get my phone rooted with CWM ready and getting a stable ROM on my phone without having to hassle back and forth.

If you want to keep your warranty , the best way would be the following:
1) Use this guide to get root and recovery on stock .290 firmware : http://youtu.be/1aq9YTlfCgc
2) Once you have root, you will be able to back up your TA partition (DRM keys)
-if you don't know any terms or are confused look here: http://youtu.be/l78p_2ShPS0
3) Now that you have your TA backup safe you can go to official Sony website to unlock your bootloader: http://unlockbootloader.sonymobile.com/
4) Choose a custom rom that you want, flash kernel and rom: http://forum.xda-developers.com/xperia-z1/orig-development
If you ever want to get back to stock. Use Flashtool to flash stock firmware, restore TA, relock bootloader.
Never attempt to restore TA on custom ROM - this will brick your device
If you don't care about warranty and don't mind loosing Bravia Engine, X-reality, Bionz etc forever; do the following:
1) unlock bootloader
2)Choose a custom rom that you want, flash kernel and rom: http://forum.xda-developers.com/xperia-z1/orig-development
1) Download the .ftf file named C6903 14.1.G.1.534 Global 1277-2880_R4A from the compiled FTF thread at this link: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2469191
This is a version of the original Stock Rom that the VROOT program will actually work on when trying to ROOT your phone.
2) Flash the ROM you downloaded using Flashtool (steps on how you can go about doing that should be in the Xperia Z1 General forum.) and now, you're ready to root your phone with it.
3) Download, install and run VROOT to root your phone. Again, more information on how to properly root your phone using VROOT can be found in the Xperia Z1 General forum. For me, I just turned on USB Debugging on my Z1, connected my phone to my computer while VROOT was running and clicked the green button until I got root access. It's extremely easy.
4) With Root Access, now you can download and install Dual Recovery for the Xperia Z1 on your phone.
5) Download the latest iHackers 2.0 ROM from the Xperia Z1 Android Development thread and copy it to your phone. This is hands down, the best ROM for the Xperia Z1 right now in terms of battery life. With the latest 4.3 update, I'm able to get over 2 Days worth of battery life on one charge. Battery life is much better on the new iHackers 2.0 ROM running Android 4.3.
6) Download the flashable Locked Dual Recovery for the Xperia Z1 here. http://nut.xperia-files.com/
The file is called XZ-lockeddualrecovery2.7.63-BETA.flashable.zip (8.48MB), download it and copy it to your phone, preferably the same place you copied the iHackers 2.0 ROM. To make things easier for yourself, create a new folder on your phone or SD Card in your phone and name it iHackers. Copy both the iHackers 2.0 ROM and the flashable Locked Dual Recovery.zip file into this folder.
7) With both files now copied to a folder on your phone, you're now ready to go into recovery to flash the iHackers 2.0 ROM. Boot into recovery and once you're there, do a Wipe Data/Factory Reset before Installing the ROM.
The rest of these steps are now taken directly from the iHackers 2.0 download thread on the Xperia Z1 Android Development forum.
8) Install the ROM and THEN Dual Recovery. Don't make the same mistake I did, once the installer is finished, DON'T REBOOT THE DEVICE. Uncheck the "Reboot Device" box and go back to recovery to install the flashable Dual Recovery.zip file that's in the iHackers 2.0 folder.
9) Switch Off Your Phone (Do Not Reboot). Select No to Disable Flash Recovery Confirmation.
10) Install Kernel.ftf for C6903 (.290) or Kernel.ftf for C6902 (.290) with Flashtool to get compatible Kernel and Baseband. To download the kernel.ftf file, go to the original iHackers 2.0 thread to download and flash the kernel using Flashtool. You should be familiar with Flashtool at this point since if you make it to this step, you've already used Flashtool once to flash the .534 baseband version of Android.
11) Reboot and Enjoy. Now you're running the latest version of Android 4.3 on your Xperia Z1 on a Locked Bootloader WITH full Root Access. Sure, it's not the stock version but the iHackers 2.0 version of Android 4.3 is just as good, if not better. This will certainly do until there's a better way to simply root the newest Stock Version of Android 4.3.
Step by Step Guide made by @x016x so Thanks him, and Me, because I posted here.
You can flash the latest z1 dual recovery, not only 2.7.63.

So you are in bootloop? Something goes wrong there then. I don't know what is the main problem.
Now to go back to the beginning you have to flash Stock FTF with Flashtool.

[Q] Brick risk

Hi ,
I want to root unlock bootloader, install cwm and install a custom rom ( slimkat probably)
Are custom roms worth it? Are there performance better than the stock jb on z?
Can i brick my phone doing this? And if i brick my phone how to unbrick it? I have heard someting about flash tool, but need more info.
And how this phone works? for example if i get a bootloop, in my old phone i still could easly go into cwm and restore backup or install another custom rom.
I want to do everything by this tut: theunlockr.com/2013/07/22/how-to-root-the-sony-xperia-z-video (it doesn't let me put the clickable so just copy)
Have you tried that or recommend something else?
Thanks.

Hi.
First some custom roms have better prefomance than stock and others not. You will brick you phone if you did something wrong. In all custom roms and mods the devs saying WIPE DALVIK CACHE if you didn't did that you will brick your phone.to unbrick use flashtool. Just download ftf file and install it from this tool. Dont worry its safe but you will lose your data. So BACKUP THEM!!!!! . Flashtool can install stock rom only.
And if you got bootloop. sometimes you will lose cwm. So you flashtool.
And last one..
To root you phone that Depends on you android version the best way you need to downgrade to 4.2.2 if you on 4.3 then you this app to root ( kingoapp.com )
DONE!
