Cont find known wifi connections - Xperia Z1 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey,
Does anyone else have this?
I have a bunch of wifi connections my phone has been connected to before and has stored so it can connect to them automaticaly.
But for some reason every now and then is loses wifi connection and when i look in my list of wifi connections, it can find all connections accept the one that is known.
I thought at first it was my router but i noticed this happened also at my work and at friends houses.
The only way to get it working again is by restarting my phone.
This has happened to me the last couple of weeks, this is not something that happened from the start

WiFi fails to reconnect

I have a Tilt with the stock AT&T ROM and HardSPL. I keep the HSDPA data on all the time and connect to my wireless access point while at home.
I understand and am fine with wifi disconnecting in sleep mode - email still checks using HSDPA. What normally happens is when I power the Tilt back from sleep the WiFi connects back to my access point.
I've noticed more than a few times however that coming out of sleep WiFi doesn't even attempt to reconnect to the access point. It is on in Comm Manager and appears to be associated with my AP, but checking the IP online shows an AT&T IP addr, not my CATV provider.
The only way to get back on WiFi is to shut off the phone (or reset). I don't want to keep WiFi on while in standby, I just want it to reconnect when it should.
Has anyone seen this behaviour?
Cheers,
Todd
Wifi access point problem
I had a problem where suddenly after months of use with my home wifi router, it suddenly would not connect with the router anymore. Would show that it was trying to connect, and then would suddenly not connect and try another router on the list.
I tried reseting and everything. Tried re-entering the password for my router as I thought that was the problem. finally the only fix i found to work was to actually delete the access point from the phone... then reset and then let it find it all over again from scratch. And miraculously that time it worked.
I know this is not exactly your problem, but hope it helps.
I will try that and see what happens. It seems whatever sub-routine that turns the wifi on isn't running at times and doesn't even attempt to search.

Wi-Fi Disconnected~

Running CM3.6.5 and cannot get the wifi to work. When I turn it on after a few seconds it says "Disconnected" right underneath it.
On the wifi networks I try to connect to my home router but it doesn't do anything. the signal strength:excellent securitypen, i hit the connect button but nothing.
I've turned off and on the wifi with no luck. Been searching for help but can't find any. If this has happened to you and you've fixed it let me know how i can do this.
Thanks!~
Have you only had this problem on one network? At work, every few days I loose my connection to our Linksys. A coworker's iPhone also fails to connect, but another coworker's Dell laptop can connect fine. Watching logcat I can see it attempting to connect, then spitting out an authentication failure error.
Restarting the Linksys seems to solve the problem. Not sure what is special about the two phones that makes everything crap out.
the only wifi network i use is my home one right now. haven't thought about restarting it. gonna do it and hopefully that will be the fix i've overlooked ><
/slaps his forehead.....
restarted my router and that fixed the problem. for some reason i've never had to do this but now i know.
thanks for the post! wifi working now.
Glad that helped. I'm still a little stumped about why it's doing this, but it sounds like we have the same issue. Restarting the router is easy enough though.
Now at home, I have a Linksys running Tomato firmware, and it never boots either of the two G1s we have. So it's just the stock router firmware for me, and it only affects G1s and iPhones (or at least, it affects them and not a laptop with Intel wireless).
i am having the same issue. does anybody knows if its a rom problem? I am running cyanogen 4.3.1. in college, where my laptop can connect fine, the g1 can not, and has a very low signal level while laptop shows excellent.

[Q] Wi-Fi Woes

Ok I have a very iritating problem.
My captivate works amazing in all ways... except one. When I'm at home connected to Wifi, within a few mins of me putting the phone down, or even mid use, the wifi will just stop working. The icon still shows it to be connected however no apps are able to actually get internet. A quick pulldown of the quick access menu and tapping wifi off and back on again gets it going great... for another 5 mins. Then the same thing happens.
Its been like this ever since I got the phone, even after flashing different roms. Now i'm running a Linksys Wireless - N router - maybe they're not playing nice?
I dont think its a hardware fault because when I serve wifi, IE the captivate is an infrastructure mode access point for 3g, it stays on consistently and my laptop can tether for 2 hours or more.
Anyone know what might be causing this?
Thanks
When you have wifi on, go to menu settings and 'Wireless and network'. In Wi-Fi settings you can change the Wi-Fi timeout.

Try goin to settings->wireless and networks-> wifi settings (menu key)advanced and set the sleeping policy to never
I've done that...
i *Think* i've fixed it. I was using WPA2 IPK encryption or whatever.. Switched back to the 64 bit crappy WEP. Wifi was on all night and all morning with no cut out.
Might be just another linksys-is-crap situation.
HI, I figured I keep my wifi woes within a singe thread so.
I have an old D Link WBS 2310 router.
I recently got a message from AT&T that I'm near my data limit. This surprised me as my last cycle I barely got near 500mb. Since my bill isn't ready yet, I can't see exactly what it is I'm doing to use so much data.
TO be safe I figured I'd pull out my old router and set it up. After hours of hassle getting it to work on my new computer, I wasn't able to get my Captivate to hook up to it.
My laptop works fine. It gets a fast wifi signal, but my phone just says "Obtaining IP address" for a while and then gives up.
My phone gets wifi at work, at friends', at coffee shops - but not at home.
I've tried this with no encryption, WEP encryption and WPA2 encryption.
Each time my laptop would hook up to the wifi but my phone wouldn't.
I searched some other forums and found similar problems with HTC phones.
Some answers say that D Link sucks. But that answer applies to other brands as well.
Do I need "n" wifi, rather than "g"?
I don't want to buy another router only to find it still doesn't work.
Any help?

part of the IEEE 802.11n standard is backward compatibility with all previous 802.11 standards IIRC, so there should be no need to buy a new n device.
HOWEVER, i am also having issues with my wi-fi and my g capable router. i will meddle around with some phone and router settings to see if i can fix this, this is one area were i can actually be of some use on this forum
Hi. It turned out the wifi was broken on my captivate. I reset it to stock and it's all better. It had been working up to the previous day so I assumed that it was still working. The router goes down intermittently in general, so I've ordered a new one to see what's up.
Hi, I'm back! So after resetting the phone and getting wifi to actually connect (rather than being stuck searching for IP address), I'm now having the exact same problem is the OP. The OP seems to have solved this by switching to WEP. I tried this and it doesn't work. My timeout is set to never. Also, it's the same at home (I replaced my router) as well as at Starbucks and a friends house.
I'm connected, but can't download or sync. It works initially and then stops, and then comes back in briefly and then stops, all the while "connected." Sometimes I can fix it temporarily by turning off wifi and then turning it back on.
SO what's the deal? Is it a hardware problem? Is there some secret magic code?
edit: Just disabled encryption - same problem.

Serious Wifi issue on Kaiser...need fix ASAP!

I'm really astonished that this is happening...and I can't figure out why. My neighbors just got a wireless router hooked up, and i get about 1 bars worth of signal at my house. It is an unsecured connection and my Kaiser keeps connecting to it whenever I turn on Wifi. It will no longer connect to my wifi network no matter what I do. I click on my network in wifi settings and hit 'connect' and then it connects to my neighbors again...I delete it, start over...and no matter what I do it always connects to it. It's obviously some sort of glitch...any ideas on how to fix without a hard reset which is what I'm about to do because it is so frustrating. Everything I use is wireless, and nothing else was affected...just my Kaiser. Anyone had this happen to them before?

get your own internet connection and stop stealing signal from your neighbors!.
On another note, try to set your connection instead of best battery try best performance settings>wifi>advanced>power(sorry dude, if these are not the correct names, but I'm on my touch 2 phone with WM 6.5 spanish rom ..)
I'm on stock AT&T Tilt Rom WM6.1 I've tried all settings available through the Windows UI. So it must be somewhere in the registry that I need to change. I can delete all networks and scan for new ones...two come up...mine, and the new (neighbors)...I've been connecting to mine automatically for years now....and even if I click connect on my network...after its all said and done with the logging in...it connects to the wrong one still...grrrrr

Dodgy wifi

Has anybody had any problems with their WiFi not connecting? My device seems to fail to connect to wifi after a couple of days and just sits trying to connect. Toggling WiFi doesn't seem to resolve it, and I have to reboot the entire phone to get it back online.
No problem here.
Connects very quickly, never seen it fail to connect, even on my works dodgy BT homehub 3, which used to tie my old Z3 compact up in knots..
Yep.I thought that Snapdragon 835 cause this problem. Xi oami 6., ZTE z17 and Op5 had the same question with WI-FI connection.

I have a sd835 s8 and I haven't had any wifi issues whatsoever since launch. It's a sample size of 1, but I don't know if it's truly due to the sd835
I haven't had any WiFi issues. In fact my WiFi connections have improved using the XZ1 compact over the X performance (the X performance dropped its WiFi connections 3 times during my data transfer to the new phone)
I've had my XZ1c for about a week now (European model) and it connects to my home network (5G) normally. Signal strength is fine, although the galaxyS6 it replaced definitely had superior reception. I do have wifi issues, but only when already connected to the network. When the phone is asleep (screenlocked) it seems to lose an active connection. The wifi connection should be on at all times, even asleep. It will show the wifi symbol, but data apps don't load, and it will have lost the connection as remote for spotify connect (playing on my reciever). It will also switch to mobile data at random times with normal wifi signal strength (even though I toggled this function off in the developper settings).
I'm not sure if this is something that can be fixed through system updates. I haven't seen any forum posts with similar problems though, so I'll try to document what is actually happening before I contact Sony support.
I bought the US version and flashed the UK firmware to get the fingerprint reader to work. No issues whatsoever with this phone. No Wi-Fi issues, overheating, signal strength, battery, nothing. Everything works just perfectly.
Same issue here. Mine is Europe (NL) version. The upload and download speed can be very unstable. And especially when I take it a bit far way, even you see that it's connect to the wifi with full signal strength, it said internet is unavailable.
I'm not sure if this related to the system update of last weekend or not.
Further to my issue. My phone will drop wifi connection and repeatedly try and connect - it usually cannot see any other networks at the time. Restarting the wifi on the phone, or rebooting the access point do not help. Running a packet sniffer on the LAN shows no activity, which indicates the issue is to do with wireless handshaking.
The problem occurs every few days and the only way to resolve it is to reboot the phone, which fixes it instantly.
I contacted Sony and they told me to do a complete reset on the phone, this didn't work. I updated my findings and pointed out that it's seems to be a firmware compatibility issue. Of course, you only get to talk to first line, and as a reset didn't work, they want me to send it off for a warranty repair (which of course will be returned with "no fault found" as no doubt their wifi will be different enough for it not to have been picked up on day 1 testing).
I'm currently trying to gather a bit more information on the fault, e.g. does it only happen on my home wifi etc. I've disabled channel bonding but that didn't help, and I've not jiggled my DHCP settings after seeing plenty of posts describing wifi problems on Oreo for other phones.
It doesn't happen frequently enough and I don't have the time to delve deeply into the network to identify the cause.
One interesting thing was that it went funny at home, but it was working when I got to work. When I got home it still couldn't connect. So I suspect it's to do with a particular compatibility issue somewhere.
no problem here conecting to 5 and 2.4 wifis...

I haven't gotten around to this yet. Do you still have wifi calling and volte available?

So far my wifi has been fine...
Mine is worst, i couldnt get it to connect at all but all my other device including xperia xa, xzp, laptop, Ps4 PS3, everything connect without any issue whatsoever, already excahnged once and still the same.
Think mine is struggling with either a single access point or VLANs. I need to dig further, but that requires buying a new AP - this phone is getting more and more expensive!
exactly same issue as Dashers describes with my XZ1c. I am not watching it closely, but it seems that it is hapenning after around 2 days online. Never happened before on same network with my previous Z3c, which had run months without restart and any problems whatsoever (till its display died

I have more or less the same issues, and a reboot always solves it. It happens with both routers form ASUS and Draytek.
Additionally I see issues with Spotify connect dropping or not being found on my Sonos (hardwired to LAN), but not so much to Chrome Cast Audio on the same network.
I don't have a problem connecting to wifi, but I seem to have a different issue. Even though wifi scanning is toggled off in settings, my phone still seems to be scanning according to Battery Historian. I think this is one of several things contributing to my high idle drain. Does anyone else have this problem?

Have you turned wifi scanning off ?
settings\Lock screen & security\Location\Scanning - turn wifi scanning off

Yes, wifi and BT scanning are both turned off in settings and have been since the beginning, but both seem to be happening anyway according to Google's Battery Historian tool. When I go back in to see if they've been toggled on by an app or something, they still appear to be off.

I have this exact problem. One second its 100% signal and is workin as expected. The other second it just drops and tries to reconnect like crazy. I have even had moments when i am unable to find my wifi after said disconnect. All my other devices is working like normal on my wifi. Using Asus n66u 5ghz.
I have been having the same issues as mentioned above with my XZ1 compact(european). My issues with dropping wifi signal seems to be happening when there are two different wifi signals to choose from. They are both on my local network. One is an extender due to the size of my house. When it can detect both signals, it can't make a decision on which one to choose. Once I remove a device(forget wifi device), it stays connected to the other with no problem. Since it isn't trying to compete with the other.
Has there been any improvement on this issue?
