I'd say your install didn't go well. I've been using RaspBMC since March with a Samsung TV, never had any issued, never even needed a clean install, just update after update. Try installing again, possibly using NOOBS.

Hi, Thx for your Reply.
I tried to Install Xbian, with no Sound, Then I Tried OpenElec with Noobs, no Sound, I think the Problem is realy the TV.
I tried to Stream Sound from my Laptop over an Displayport to HDMI Cable and ther also was no Sound.
I need to figure out is it the TV or the config.
Today I will try it with an Video Projector with mono Sound.
If this work, then I know the Probleme is the TV.

What about a different device hooked up to the TV? Or different cable. Possibly even try something silly like switching the cable ends.

So, testet a few Minutes ago.
With an Video Projector Sound works great over HDMI so the Raspberry Pi works fine.
The problem is the TV.
Damn!
But Why?

Could it be that you're trying to play a file with DTS and your TV can't decode it? The Raspberry Pi doesn't decode DTS, at best it forwards it through HDMI and hopes your telly can decode it. Have you tried playing an MP3 file??

Good luck! Don't forget to leave feedback.

Hey guys.
I also just got my pi and put xbain on it. I have an LG TV and have the very same problem. No sound. I've tried almost everything I can find anywhere with no luck.
If I unplug the HDMI cable from the pi and connect it to my laptop, the sound works perfectly. So does the sound on my Apple TV and Playstation. Makes me think the problem is the pi and not the TV.
The video plays great. Just no sound. Not even music plays. The config file updates aren't working either.
BUT! What's weird is that I got it working for about an hour over the weekend, but then needed to do a clean install of xbian and it never worked again. So I know the TV and pi are not faulty.
Any ideas?

Hey Dude,
can you upload your config.txt file pls.
So I can take a look on it. In my acse the problme is the TV when I plug the pi in an other Device (Video Projector) then it plays the Sound.
Did you trie'd RASPBMC?

Now I finally tried a BD DVD Player over HDMI and now I know the Problem is definitely the TV it plays no Sound.

I use a 47" 3D LG TV, had the same problem. I install a radio station who add some plug in and now it's working. Take 10 min of your time to try...

You could always try something like this and connect it to a sound bar or like device.

Update to the very latest Raspian and type this...
Code:
sudo nano /boot/config.txt
Scroll down to where you see "#hdmi_drive=2" and then delete the "#"
Then press Ctrl-o and then Ctrl-x to save and exit.
Reboot the system, and you may have sound!
I had the same problem earlier in the year, and I had to jump through a few hoops to get sound working properly, I did a fresh intall this week, and I only needed to use the above to get sound via HDMI.

Audio over USB to PC?

I was wondering if there's a way to direct the audio out from my Tilt to my PC using the USB connection? I'd like to be able to play video files on the Tilt and have the audio fed over the USB connection to my PC... is that possible?
Tried some searching but I was only able to find info about a USB->3.5mm headphone adapter, which isn't what I'm looking for.
Thanks,
-Brett.
why not just play the said video files directly on the pc ?

If you have a good sized SD card, check out the free download at Mojopac. Used in conjunction with Softick card exporter (turns your phone into a USB stick), you can carry around your own PC environment on your phone that works on any PC so you can load WMP 11 and all the codecs on that.
Plug the USB into the PC, loadup Mojo off your phone and play the files on the PC without effecting it as it treats your SD card as the C: drive!
it would require alot of programming to do
also i dont really see much demand for it
as much people want to stream audio and video together
what you can do is use the "USB->3.5mm headphone adapter"
and connect it to the lineIn / mic input on your pc
that would make your pc play the audio too

I've got a 3.5mm headphone adapter on order, so I guess that would work once it arrives. I do have a line in on my laptop that I could use; I was just hoping to do it via software with my existing hardware.
Farsquidge: That sounds like it might work but it also sounds like overkill for what I was looking for.
Thanks,

Yeah, it may be a bit OTT for you.
It has saved me carrying a laptop around though and its free!
Hope it all works out for you.
Rather than installing mojopac, you could just use VLC Portable and run it from your phone memory card in the same way using softick.
http://portableapps.com/apps/music_video/vlc_portable
Or just pick up a 2 or 4 gig usb stick, slap VLC portable on it along with your vids etc and just use it as your portable movie/music player on any PC thats to hand.

[Q] Any one tried TV-Out Capability on Captivate

Hi,
I am a new user to the forums. Recently I have purchased TV out original samsung 3.5 to RCA cable for TV out capability but I see distorted image on TV. Thought it was a cable problem and went to at&t device support center but they couldn't help me out because they can't test my device at there center. I wonder any one tried it and if so is there any limitation on hardware/software for captivate.
Please help.

Mine works just fine, quality is comparable to an old VHS vcr.
Some cables you have to switch the red audio out with the video to get them to work right.(use right audio for video, and video for right audio)

Thank you Nick for the quick input. I appreciate your concern.
Might want to also try jacking with the cable on the phone end.
The 3.5mm Jack isn't exactly a "Great" output mthod for Video. Try just pulling it up and pushing it down a little. You can fell where the grooves are. Just try to move them around in there to get a better connection.
Thats what worked for me @ least.
I'm slightly miffed as to why Samsung decided no HDMI out, and instead stuck with a crappy 3.5mm headphone out for video.
Works fine for me....can't seem to get the volume any louder though

I also get the same distorted video and a buzzing-hum that drowns out the audio with my 3.5 to RCA/AV cable. I have tried both tv out settings on the phone and swapping the red and yellow ends of the cable. I can, however, use my Play Station 3 to watch, copy and save videos and pictures with the usb cable. It works great and gives awesome audio and video.

Same here.
I just ordered an RCA out cable and am really excited to get it. Even thought it isn't HD it will still be really nice to do.
I was surprised with how good the quality is. I use a cable that came with my Zune dock. It matches correctly to the inputs. My phone looked much better than the Zune did using the same cables.
The audio was great, and the video was as others said VHS quality. Definately watchable. I will say the landscape quality was much better than the portrait quality. On my HDTV I want to say it wasn't full screen, but using the zoom in the TV menu it became full screen, correct proportion.
I agree that Samsung leaving out HDMI support is bad, and disappointing after they told everyone a micro-usb to HDMI cable would fix that, then changed their minds.
This is a problem I won't trouble myself with much longer, I plan on getting an Atrix when they come out.

I just use the usb cable that came with the phone or any other micro usb to usb 2.0 cable. Just write folders on your phone's sd card named PHOTO, MUSIC and VIDEO. Put your photos, music and/or video into the corresponding folders. Plug the phone to the PS3 via usb cable. Turn on usb debugging on the phone. Now look on the PS3 in PHOTO, MUSIC or VIDEO for USB MEDIA STORAGE. There will be all your stuff. You can copy back and forth or just play it on the tv or sound system.
Sorry it took so long to answer, I totally forgot all about this thread.

[Q] HDMI Cable any good? Is this plug and play?

Good day,
Just bought this HDMI cable for my phone is it suitable?
http://www.ebay.com/itm/6FT-Micro-H...ltDomain_0&hash=item336b725922#ht_3308wt_1037
Last Q, when you connect these cables must you turn off your phone or are they "plug and play"
Thanx!
Looks like it will do the job, you just plug it in and the picture appears on the screen.
Plug and play.
Its a bit of a wank really, show off pretty games to friends.. no real use i can think of.
Unless you wana watch a movie on a tv that has hdmi but no USB.

Would have been better if when you plug the phone into the telly, the screen on the phone then becomes a touchpad that you control a cursor on the screen with.
Would have made for pretty good Angry Birds etc. experiences.

Those thieves!!!, even in Mexico (Telcel as carrier) included the HDMI cable, the main reason I brought this phone! (went from Iconia A500 to this... to watch anime without a PC, I have been without a laptop 3 years straight, I found myself not using it, now with tegra 2 and LG more reason not to).

Mine doesn't have the HDMI cable included as well...
Is it really useful? I don't see I'm gonna need this, but heck I might be wrong...
Hello!
In Germany there isn't a HDMI-cable included either...
I use this adapter and a cable I have always installed in case I want to connect my laptop to the TV.
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Cablesson®-...HVPM/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1324144699&sr=8-1
I use it for slideshows, video playback and online radio playback.
...works fine.
And on the phone side it is plug and play, but you TV might need to be changed to the right source channel (i.e. HDMI 3 in my case) – but some TV sets might do this automatically if there isn't connected any other video source.
Heh just remembered, my HDMI cable is hanging out the back of my telly... shame the phone is gone
HDMI is not that useful imho. Some games are great to play on big screen but there is problem with short cable, you need to be very close to TV.
I also tried GTA 3 on big screen (plasma hd ready). Very poor graphic, i would rather install this game on my PC again.

HDMI can be extended http://www.dealextreme.com/p/gold-plated-hdmi-female-to-female-adapter-converter-29363 so you can get at least 3-4m from TV.
Bought it along with micro HDMI and a normal HDMI cable, works just fine. But, it's not so useful, really. Photos are not in high res, movies are sometimes ok but some don't work at all (mkv 4.1 profile and up, there are multiple threads about that). So... maybe it's better to use DLNA and ordinary PC, PS3, real media players.
I never got an HDMI cable in my UK box either.

[XBMC PI] Raspbmc No sound, no hdmi control

EDIT: Conclusion =D
Well i'm happy with a setup i've just done. Using my X Mini portable speakers I get a very loud speaker, with high quality. If anyone else cannot be bothered/cannot figure out how to fix HDMI, these are probably better than my Tv's speakers anyways. And there only £12 =D
Also, YATSE remote for android allows me to control it despite not having CEC!

Hello, I haven't seen much on Raspbmc on XDa, but its a great little OS. With overclocking controls (much like yuo might get on android) and XBMC booting by default for the professional look =D
Anyway, I haven't been able to get any sound out of the HDMI. I know that sound output can work (on a different OS, like raspbian). Also, i noticed that the HDMI control (ie using TV remote to control it) doesn't work.
Any ideas? Anyone else using PI?
(also, have tried loads of configurations in audio, now i'm stuck)
Edit: I'm trying a clean install, ill post my results.
I've been using raspbmc since I got my first pi and haven't had those problems. However the last iteration of rc5 did have issues with cec which would explain why your remote wouldn't work if your not on the absolute latest. As far as sound only issues I've heard about is with people using external stereo for sound. Disable DTS if your using your tv. With the latest versions be careful with overclocking, there's currently a problem in the build that is causing SD card corruption for a lot of users.

Check out xbian.org its a xbmc build for the rpi that works great. My remote for my LG tv works great and same for sound, no issues. Has oc control as well. It does freeze up every few days but that's my only issue with it

Im gonna try xbian, as Endoroid suggested, much thanks
I did overclock it, but i have noticed that when booting up, sometimes i have to restart as it says
Code:
**cant read, cut off screen****al commit I/O error
Humph, im guessing that al is journal (after googling the rest).
Ill report back again on my xbian results, hopefully end of thread? we'll see (i hope my sd card isn't corrupt or something, i dont think so, file management sitll works and it boots...)
Right...
I installed XBian but still have no sound?!
I know that sound has worked on XBMC, i remember when i first got it i tried it breifly, im gonna try with headphone port and see if i get sound. Even if I do, i'd like to use the HDMI output, rather than headphones/portablespeakers.
Any clues?
Edit:
Headphones working fine... i'm not sure whether that is a good thing or a bad thing...
(im testing using a few different sound sources, not just one, os i doubt this is any Program errors. It must be the system. Are there any drivers i can download for a samsung TV?)
Also, i might try on a different TV and see if it's just the tv?!

I see that no one has commented on this in a while, so I hope that the thread is not dead. When I hook up my Raspbmc to my TV through my Denon receiver, I get picture, but no sound. I added the two lines of code to the config file mentioned on the Pi forums that supposedly force HDMI. When I go into audio settings, however, I don't even seem to have an HDMI option. The only options are Analog and Coax.
Thoughts?

I had this problem too when I got a Raspberry Pi a week ago, with a Samsung UN32EH4000 (I don't think the TV has CEC, if that matters). Tried all the recommended solutions, but never had the HDMI choice for the sound even. Went to Xbian and had no problems.

I have given up on Raspbmc, and even xbian as I have found they don't work well, for me.
I did like Arch linux, but had problems had memory problems.
I have had memory problems on all of the distros tried, I think it might be a hardware problem (after a successful boot or two it forgets how to turn on and just fails)
Oh well :L Gonna try raspbian for a bit and see if i get anywhere.

I was able to fix this by adding "hdmi_force_hotplug=1" and "hdmi_drive=2" to my Config file. I also went pure Raspbmc. You can install XBMC from Raspian, but since my goal was a media extender, I just installed Raspbmc. Wait for everything to settle, turn off the Pi, put the SD card in your PC, open up config.txt, and copy those two lines of code.
Make sure when you edit the config file on a pc, if using windows. Use notepad+ as windows will not properly format the file using utf-8 with standard notepad.

Also... make sure you're using a quality dependable power supply that actually puts out 5V and at least 700mA, I use an Amazon Kindle Fire 2.1A charger just for the headroom.
The easiest way to check is to have the Pi plugged in and on, and check voltage on the board directly with a test meter. If you don't get the correct values, try a different power supply.

Mods, please move this thread to the q&a section..
To kind of answer your question, look for something that shares the screen from a phone/tablet over tcp to a laptop and sideload it.
You can by ALIENWARE m18x laptop, it has separate both HDMI in and out.
So you can connect OUYA via hdmi cable to it.:silly:

It seems like everything uses HDMI these days, from home theater equipment to your Android phone. With so many HDMI devices in use, most televisions quickly run out of available HDMI input ports. You don't want the hassle of plugging and unplugging cables whenever you want to watch or play something different and you don't want the expense of new TV. Just get this 4x1 Enhanced HDMI Switch from Monoprice!
What he is looking for is a alternative option to the TV he shares. I don't think many laptops have video in. You would need to get a USB device to do that. However those are capture devices and I believe the OUYA signal has DRM restrictions.

Some USB capture devices have been known to work, you'll have to look that up, but there is a dev working on a way to do it over a network. Right now it's still in the concept phases, however, and I wouldn't expect to see it anytime soon.
