Looking for a Solid Keyboard case similar to the Transformer - Nexus 10 Accessories

I use my GNex10 for business a lot. I'm in Inusrance and it's such a convenient form factor to carry around. Even compared to my Lenovo x220. The instant "powerup" of android and the long battery life are so nice. I use it to carry reference material (pdfs), do quick google searches, and even do online applications/sales. Saving me from tons of paperwork every night.
I have a "M edge" bluetooth keyboard case that's not bad, but it's flimsy and difficult to use if not on a flat surface. I was dreaming, like many, of google releasing the official keyboard dock, but as we know that never happened. Are there any good keyboard covers/cases out there? I want something sturdy that will turn my Nexus into a transformer minus the IO problems...

I would be interested in this too. I haven't seen anything like it but it would be nice if there was it would be really nice for me because I use mines for school. I had a poetic one but it just didn't feel good because of the bulkiness even though it was a good case

I've been looking into this too, and this looks good:
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Aluminium...es_Covers_Keyboard_Folios&hash=item56552752a8
Anybody got any experience with it? Thinking of taking the plunge...
EDIT: I've just purchased this. I'll update when it arrives with my findings in case anybody is interested.

please let us know how it is. I'm debating jumping ship the the new asus transformer once it comes out in November.

That case looks nice but is it reliable? The screen on the nexus 10 is all wrong unless it was an unlocked one with a custom ROM. It had the touchwiz theme and the tablet Ui, but that's what I was looking for so if I find one on amazon like it I'll buy it and tell u how it is depending on the price

Well I just checked amazon and saw the same one for 26 dollars so I guess it is reliable. Now I'm wondering if there's one like that with a mouse pad

OK, so it turned up annd I'm typing this reply on it now! Contruction seems pretty good, it is made from a mixture of aluminium and plastic and feels robust.
Typing on it isn't ideal... the keys are somewhat smaller than a full size keyboard. It's not too bad though. I reckon once i've got a little more used to it I should be able to type pretty quickly on it. It's already MUCH quicker than using the onscreen keyboard!
There doesn't seem to be any lag when typing. The gap the tablet slots into is well made. The tablet feels securely docked, I think the may be a magnet holding it in place as I can actually pick the tablet up when docked and it brings the keyboard with it!
I like the way it clips on to the front of the N10, doubling as a protective cover when travelling. It also makes a great stand for your tablet.
Overall, colour me impressed! Like some of you guys I was considering the latest Transformer but I think this keyboard is enough to put me off. For 20 pounds I'd definitely reccomend it.
Downsides: It's a US keyboard, so no pound key. It's not super light: It probably weighs a couple of hundred grams alone. I doesn't have a touchpad mouse, though to be fair given its size I don't think it would be possible to fit one it.

Thanks for the review. It sounds good. I'll check it out. Just one question does it fold over the screen to protect it.

It doesn't fold over, as there's no folding mechanism! It clips onto the front of the tablet, and will protect the screen well I should think. :good:

OK thanks again. It sounds pretty good. I'll check out a video review on YouTube and if I like what I see I'll get it but after I save enough to pay for the nexus 5

Does this keyboard have android keys? I see what looks like a back button but does it have home, menu etc? Thx.

Does it really hold the device steady enough? The reviews for this keyboard on Amazon are terrible. Apparently it is prone to screwing up the bezel and dropping the N10.

Are all those relatively strong rare earth magnets a good idea? Won't that mess with things like navigation and storage?
Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk 2
No the magnets won't affect it that way. It's an innovative idea for sure but the way the N7 is held in place is plain ugly! Also there doesn't seem to be any way to fix or hold the top cover in place when it's closed.
I think it's a great idea but not ready for market quite yet, at least I wouldn't buy it as is.
Very clever but ugly. Not sure why you would want to stick your tablet to the fridge?
Sent from my Nexus 7 using XDA Premium HD app
i really want one and would get it if it was like 20 bucks but looks like it will be at least 70 which is a no go for me especially since it doesn't look like it protects the corners.
Nope. The front cover, a rather important part, looks like it's got several slits in it to facilitate all of that silly folding.
Ehh I wouldn't be too sure about the internal Compass. The Transformer TF101 had issues with this and magnets.
Pretty slick idea. Looks like a great case but not for me. I hope he sells a lot of them and does well.
Looks interesting but I'll be waiting for some real users review to see if it really works well
Pretty dope!
Clever, but ugly and probably overpriced. For $20, I'd take a second look.
Doesn't look like it adds any protection, but seems like a really nice idea.
Frankly, I would love to be able to stick it to the fridge for recipes when I am cooking.
I went ahead and per ordered it from http://flipsteady.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=4&products_id=5 for 55 bucks. Its not the prettiest case out there but I prefer function over style most days out of the week and I do love all the options with the stand.
I will probably try to put a thin tpu case on the nexus and then the flip steady on top of it for a little more protection. Will review when I receive it.

I use my tablet when cooking brunch on Sundays, fixing a batch of cheese dip up, etc. Good for all kinds of uses.
Awesome case, too bad its $55 prob get in around $35 or lower ($29.99 would be sweet spot)

Sleeve that folds into a Stand

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Faux-Leathe...=978172893840139427&pid=100015&prg=1006&rk=1&
Not the typical sleeve. It folds into a stand which I thought was cool and you can enjoy the n7 without having something bulky/clumsy around it.
Now that's more useful than that stick-it-on-the-fridge-door thing that's been posted.
/off to check eBay uk for one.
Let us know if you buy one. Would like to know how it performs. Looks pretty cool. Good find.
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda app-developers app
That's pretty handy to me as i hate cases when I'm playing games on the tablet but I'd like a sleeve and a stand for it
I also wondered if there's a sleeve like the BlackBerry cases which have magnets in them...in the phone they were used to silence the phone but here it would be useful to wake the tablet up while you're pulling it out of the sleeve
Sent from my HTC EVO 3D X515m using Tapatalk 2
That kind of sleeve would be useful, and if this case was any cheaper, I'd buy it, but for now I'm waiting till I get my actual device and get my TPU on it before I look for sleeve that can hold it in its tpu case.
Off-topic, Ace, ever time your signature pops up, I try to kill the gnat cause I think I've got another bug in my room. :silly: Stop it, you're hurting my screen!

It looks way too oversized to me. Love the concept but I wouldn't buy one twice the size of my tablet.
That is a pretty neat idea - I'd think about picking up a non-leather version.

This question is subjective. Like beauty is in the eye of the beholder.
I am sure you have seen the myriad of threads and posts about cases. Have you seen them?
Is this your first tablet? If not did you use a case with your previous one? And were you happy with it?
Are you curious about a certain case? What makes you ask the question, really...I mean your answer is out there. In other words, the answer you seek is the one you answer yourself.

This thing is my favorite, personally. It's cheap. Durable as hell. Wakes and puts the device to sleep with the flap. Can be turned into a stand, and it don't look half bad. It's all your choice, but I would look at this one if I was you.

Wait, what case is this?
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk 2
Soooo many case threads... maybe there should be a "which case is worst" thread. Don't like the one I bought on Ebay here. The fit in the portrait direction is not great, slides up and down about .25", so the camera gets covered easily. Also has no hole for the side mic, so mic pick up is questionable. Also the thickness of leather prevents a finger slide right to the edge of the screen. No auto-off. I wouldn't buy it again or recommend it to anyone.
It absolutely depends on whether a case offers functions or features that would give you more opportunity to use your tablet.
I typically get cases for my devices so that I am not as concerned about breaking it while out and about. I am also often in situations where it is best to be discreet about using an electronic device.
Something else to consider is how the case will impair the experience of using your device as opposed to having no case on it. One of my biggest gripes with cases in general for touchscreen devices is how many of them encroach on the screen surface, so I go for the usually higher cost cases that put more thought into how the device is secured into the case without putting anything on the screen surface. When I say that they encroach on the screen surface, I do not necessarily mean that they hinder viewing, but that they cover the unused edges of the screen, and that happens to be where I prefer to grip with my thumb, and I prefer the feel of the glass under my thumb rather than leather, cloth, microsuede or whatever else.
Those are just my personal rules when hunting for cases for my devices.
This case almost makes it, if only the back was black, and that stand popped off.

I have that case...and the revision of it.
First case that I received had a strong magnet causing my Nexus 7 to go to sleep mode when the front cover is folded to the back of the case.
The second cover that I received today had no magnet (or a weaker magnet). The smart cover sleep/awake function is nonexistent.
Also the stylus holder is blocking the volume buttons. This issue actually is for both versions of the case.
Despite the lack of the smart cover function, I'm going to switch between the latest revision of the hardback case that I just got today and the official Google case....for now.

Kensington KeyFolio Expert

Hey folks. Just received this Case/Keyboard combo and figured i would write up a little review.
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B007RB10K4/ref=oh_details_o01_s00_i00
I am going to start with my only issue. It was built for 10" tablets so the N7 doesnt make it feel super comfy when the thing is closed up, but the 'suction' pad holds it very securely. I guess my only other problem with it would be that the face of the N7 hits the plastic keys when closed....which isnt an issue probably, but for some reason makes me nervous (easily solved by placing a screen wipe cloth there).
So those things aside.. I must say i am really happy with my purchase. If you place the N7 a little higher up on the suction pad, it makes the overall stability when closed much better. The keyboard works great and has all the working hotkeys (home, back, search, browser, settings, menu, music, music controls, volume, sleep, menu, and the superkey opens googlenow).
Keys are a bit small, but its not slowing me down, although the right shift is the one i usually use and ive missed it a couple times. The suction pad apparently doesnt get 'un-succy' . Its an adhesive rectangle about 6 inches in length and 3.5 inches in height that you can clean and maintain so it stays 'succy'. As i mentioned, I have placed the n7 about 1 inch from the bottom of this pad making the top reach halfway up the back of the tablet, and it's holding great. Also, It leaves no residue on the back of the N7 even though when you are peeling the N7 off it seems like its gotta leave something behind because of how strong it is.
I will be using this setup in class for note taking and feel comfortable leaving my notebook (real and electronic) at home now. (i will be using supernote).
Cannot comment on battery life, but it comes with a charging cable, and has nice sleep functions (sleeps BT after 1 minute of inactivity, and fires right back up with any keypress)
Over all keyboard solidity is great too. And the learning curve for typing on it is basically nonexistant (typed this whole review without hesitation or issue)
I am going to try and switch over to my phone to add some pictures, but let me know if you have any specific questions or want specific photos of anything.
All in all, i highly recommend it and would take it over anything else on the market right now for its sleakness.

Seems pretty good. Some reviewers say it's a bit bigger for use on 7" tablets, and I take that as it looking like a fine addition to a 10" tablet Some review mentioned some media keys didn't work with a Nexus 7 (I imagine this is an entire Android-thing though).
Just letting everyone know that this is still alive for a couple more days.

I have that keyboard. It works well with the Nx 10. Most of the Abndroid functions keys work to launch or control things as they should.

You only have one more day left at this price!
Mine just came and it's really great. It paired easily, the keys themselves have a great feel, its light and substantial at the same time, and all the special keys work perfectly with my N10, except the mute key and what would be the "F13" key, whose function I can't figure out at all (seems to do nothing, even though it looks like a "menu" key. There is a working "menu" key next to the space bar. It's the only special key not mentioned in the manual). Unlike a previous bluetooth keyboard I had, the Android special keys all work without the function key being held down, which is a million times more useful. If I ever need a true FKey I can always hold down the function key.
One and a half things that are negative for me: (1) The caps lock indicator LED doesn't work, at least with my N10. This is the second of these keyboards that doesn't have a working caps lock LED indicator, so I don't think it's a fault with the keyboard, but whatever its cause, it doesn't work. The caps lock itself works fine, just the LED indicator doesn't. DOES THE CAPS LOCK LED WORK ON YOURS? (2) I kinda wish it had a built in LiIon flat battery so that there wasn't the circular bulge in the bottom rear where the two AA batteries live. A little thing, and the upside is that the bulge does cause the keyboard to angle nicely. I may wind up appreciating the bulge since the typing angle is perfect, and if it were flat, the angle would suck.
Newegg was fantastic. $20 and free shipping. The first one (which I sent back due to the caps lock LED indicator not working) was delivered in two days, and the replacement was delivered in one day. I'm not returning this one as I feel the caps lock LED indicator not working is not due to a faulty keyboard, and I really like this keyboard. I just need to find a nice sleeve for it; something in suede or leather maybe. (It's about two inches wider than the N10, so the sleeve I used to use for my N10 before its current case arrived is too small).
Oh, and one caution. The battery cover is a pain in the behind to remove. It is VERY easy to damage the tiny plastic clips if you remove it improperly. You have to push back on the interior side with the latch a little, and then just lift that same side straight away from the keyboard. The "lift straight up" part is not only not intuitive, but is difficult to accomplish because you're holding the tiny latch clip away from its latch. Not sure I described that very well, but just be careful.
I can recommend this keyboard without hesitation to anyone with an Android device, with a N10 in particular, and with Newegg.
My caps lock idicator does not work either. I didn't notice it until reading your post.
My caps lock indicator does not work when the keyboard is paired with my Nexus 10. However it does work when I pair the keyboard with my PC running Ubuntu.
Sounds like Android doesn't support caps lock indicators without some software.
Lol at returning it for that reason.
