Hello I'm new to posting on these forums but I have been reading them for a while.
Anyway I installed cyanogenmod 10.1.3 on my captivate and every thing was working fine, until one day every time I would boot up the phone it would go straight to CWM recovery.
I put the phone into download mode using the 3 button combo, and decided I would just put it back to stock (I used this guide. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=731989).
Well it finished doing its thing and I booted up the phone but it kept looping the, "att world phone" screen. So I tried putting the phone into download mode using the buttons, but every time I plug in the USB cable the battery icon shows up. I used all the combinations I could find, and nothing worked.,So I bought a USB jig.
Well when a plug in the jig nothing happens ( I even tried different batteries). I tested the jig on my friends focus flash and it works. I have a video below showing everything. I was hoping someone could help me out, it would be much appreciated. Thanks for your time

when i plugged my phone into kies it offered me an update from 2.2 to 2.2.1 (PDA:JS5 / PHONE:JPY / CSC: JS4). i have rooted my phone before the update using Z4root and also installed voodoo lagfix using a one click installer which was on the market. after the update the phone went into recovery mode and on kies it said something like "disconnect and reconnect usb". i didnt do this and just clicked the reboot now option on recovery mode. and now my phone boots up but the OS does not start. the tmobile boot animation is no longer played, instead it is the (i am guessing) original galaxy s boot animation. after this animation the phone vibrates once, pauses and the vibrates 3 times. if i leave it on then it will do this continously. it used to do this while the phone worked on 2.2 and it ended up force closing whatever app i was using at that time. is it force closing the OS? i can no longer get into 3 button recovery mode even though i could before. i am going to try the ADK which i am new too and if it works and i get into recovery mode what should i do? factory reset? and if doesnt how can i get it to recovery mode?
i really want to get it working again thank you in advance to everyone.
UPDATE: i have tried the adk reboot recovery but it says device not found :S

Your woes are probably because you didn't disable lagfix.
But don't worry - JS5 does not disable the 3-button modes or anything. Maybe you are just releasing the buttons at a wrong time (too early / too late)? See if you can get to download mode (Vol Dn - Power - Home). If yes, you can flash JS5 (or any other stock firmware) via Odin.
Try download mode never make customication without haveing them working!
If 3btn doesn't work built a jig then flash a FULL rom(3files +pit) using odin +repartition
Or if you want it super easy just flash darky resurrection (one file+ good rom)
Could try useind adb to grlet download mode theres guid on hear how to get three button combo useing adb

Adb reboot download but i think it will not work if he can't connect adb....
Try hold volup+home+power and do a factory reset.
thanks everyone for helping me out however the 3tbn recovery/download mode is not working and to top it all of my internet provider cut my internet so i cant even research into this matter. this morning i turned the phone on and left for work i'll see what happened when i get home. all i really need to do is get my p.c to recognize the device so i could use adb/odin and that doesnt seem to work. i might end up having to buy/make a jig
you wouldnt beleive the luck i had. i sent my phone of for repairs to samsung while i waited for the parts to build a jig in hope that they wldnt b able to do anything and give me a new one and instead they fixed it. for free. im so happy
Today while flashing to a ROM I wiped all data/factory reset to then installed it.
I've tried making a "JIG" And cant go into download mode.
I tried using the button combination to put it into download to use Odine3
But cant. I also tried recovery mode but cant get into that either. Everythinh I have tried will not work. All it is doing is showing AT&T boot logo then it shows Galaxy S Cyanogen(Mod) Logo.
Please help me. I have tried the Jig the every style button combination and still nothing.
Try buying a jig. Making one involves a lot of hit and miss variables.
If you built the jig right it should work.
Does your computer recognize the device if you connect it?

Hi Friends,
I have a big problem with my Samsung Galaxy S GT-I9000.
1) I have recently rooted using ODIN and Installed ICS ROM from XDA site. That was working fine but bit slow. So I thought of restoring back to my original condition.
2) I installed rom manager and clicked on reboot to recovery option. It rebooted and am in CWM Recovery manager. But When I tried to restore back my backup, it says
E:can´t mount CACHE:recovery/comand
E:Can´t mount CACHE: recovery/log
E:Can´t open CACHE: recovery/log
3) Later I Turned off my Phone using reboot now. And Once rebooted it only showed Galaxy S booting screen. And after a long time (Approx. 15 min after) It came back to recovery manager.
4) I thought I can't do anything and turned off my mobile. Removed SD card, Battery and after 10 min kept back the battery .
5) Later , I formatted SD card, Copied a New ROM (2.3.4 Ginger Bread), went back to recovery mode, and when I tried to Install, it took 5 min and turned off . But it never booted back.
I can only see the Options and back buttons lighting when i switched it ON.
I cannot go back to either Recovery mode or download mode.
Please help me at any cost. The only Hope i have is XDA forum.

Thanks and Regards,
Ananth
Good Morning all!
My Galaxy S GT-I9000 will not turn on or go into download mode nothing.
Plug it into USB and the two white buttons ( Options and Back) light up and the pc installs drivers but that's it.
There most be a way of installing from scratch?
Any Hard reset or any other chances to make my phone working..
Any ideas would be a great help....
Looking for replies.....
If you can't get in to download mode its hard bricked.....only way to get it working would be to buy a USB jig from eBay to get your phone in to download mode and flash the stock rom from Odin ...good luck

You can always make your own jig, there are plenty of guides on the forums here. I wouldn't recommend this though as jigs on ebay are incredibly cheap and the time spent making one can be considerable for zero gain if you aren't particularly proficient.
It definetely sounds like you've hard bricked your phone as you can't even access download mode.
jig is the only solution .........
Hello XDA peeps,
So here is my situation, some days ago (like 3-4 months ago) I installed CM 10.1 on my Captivate. Everything went well and I can even open my phone and use it. But the problem was, after installing that ROM, I no longer can get into recovery mode or download mode. I tried everything possible, the button combo method, button combo and battery pull in method, button combo and USB pull in method and also tried ADB "restart recovery / reboot download" I think, (does not remember because it was 3-4 months ago). Tried everything correctly and stopped trying when I could not get into download mode or recovery mode. The last option I have is a USB jig, but the thing is I don't have it and I will need to buy it from abroad if I want it.
Some more information: When I try to put it in download mode, it gets in a boot loop (I see the AT&T logo and then reboots), the boot loop stops when I leave the buttons. And also when I switch on the phone, it does display the battery charging animation.
And also I've heard some people saying that it might be because I flashed some incompatible kernal or something. (This might be true, because I also don't remember what I did to flash the ROM )
So, I want to fix this now because I want to update my phone to the CyanFox 4.3 ROM which seems very cool . Is there anyway I can fix this recovery mode or download mode on this phone so that I could flash a new ROM to my phone (without the jig if possible)
Thank you lots peeps.

Download and recovery mode aren't affected by ROM flashing. If you can run your phone just fine, then your kernel is fine.
Now my guess is that one of your button isn't working properly, or that you're using the wrong combo. That being said, when you hold the power button (while phone is powered on), you should have an extended menu that gives you the option of booting in recovery or download mode, have you tried those?
As for a jig, you can make one if you don't wanna order one. It's fairly simple and we have a guide in here on how to for just a couple bucks.

Thank you for your reply. Yes I did try that also. But it just does a normal restart. I tried the the ADB "reboot recovery" also. It also didn't help. I even downloaded an app to reboot into recovery, but no help.
And yesterday I got a jig from my friend, it worked on his infuse but did not work on my Captivate. He said that it might be because he is using a 330K resistor. So I ordered a jig from ebay. It will take some time to reach here.
Is there anything else I can try? maybe push a recovery or something using ADB? Sorry if I am being noob here
Once again, thanks for your support.
At this point i would just wait for the jig. And yes, Samsung galaxy jig requires 301k.

Ok, I will wait for the jig and when I get it, I will post the result.
Once again Thank you for your help
Aaaand all of a sudden I was wondering, can this be a bootloader problem? Maybe my bootloader got locked somehow or something?
The best thing is still to wait for the Jig or make one, as BWolf56 suggested.
Once ya have the Jig and If u can get into Download Mode with it, I suggest that u flash the One Click Odin or Heimdall Stock Android 2.3.5 i897uckk4 that includes the Bootloaders. (See the stickied One Click thread in the Dev forum, Post #3). If that is successful, do not flash any Bootloaders again. U can then proceed to flash the KK4 Corn Kernel, the .tar version of the kernel v7.0A, through Odin and then use that CWM Recovery that is baked into that kernel to go on flashin other Roms, etc.
If u cannot get into Download Mode with the Jig, then ur micro usb port of ur phone may be the fault. (But still an app should work from the play store to reboot to download or recovery)...anyway that is all i got for now.
Keep us posted.

I think you have hard-bricked your phone. Most probably you must have flashed a rom not intended for our device. Sorry but if USB Jig doesn't work, then there is nothing you can do. Better consult a Service Center as the last resort. Hope I Helped.
