Android 4.4 Source being released - Nexus 4 General

Here we go again, gentlemen start your engines...
Android 4.4 Source
Source is now being pushed to the AOSP trees. Of course, when it is all there we will begin the process of figuring out what changed, needs work, and/or is no longer feasible or needed.
We are not in a rush to get 4.4 builds out . We are going to continue the process of working on CM 10.2 M1 - getting that out the door and onto your devices. Further, we will 'finish' the 10.2 code base, similar to what we did with 10.1.
As a friendly reminder, please don't flood us with requests for 4.4 - we all want new and shiny things, but we will not do so at the expense of abandoning the hard work our contributors have put into 10.2.
Final note, a lot of folks are reading into the "512mb" item on the release notes. No, this does not mean a sudden resurrection of older hardware, there are dependencies beyond the RAM (and CM has enforced that minimum since ICS).

When to expect ready to flash .zip?

wouldn't the binaries be important given the new sensors and things that come with 4.4? (for things like the pedometer)

How are they going to implement it in old hardware(n4)?

so how's the compatibility with N4? will it be a smooth transition, or take a little while as google give us all the source files etc.

The website says it is a feature of 4.4.. I am not sure if it would require dedicated hardware or leverage off the accelerometer. An accelerometer measures vertical acceleration, a pedometer simply counts these measurements (from my understanding)

Are the N4 binaries up? Can I use the JWR binaries? I'm downloading the source right now.

I've compiled ROMs for my old 2011 samsung budget phone, not that hard to compile, and there's plenty of guides to go by, once you get it set up and a full build (first build takes an hour or two) you gotta debug and test which for me is hard as heck lol, hopefully well see ROMs by next week

It's not that bad, a lot of the hard work is made into Python scripts. It takes FOREVER to compile; however, I never got SU working on my own builds.

I do usually, just stock roms, 4.3 had so many issues so I didn't share. If 4.4 goes smoothly I'll package and share the .zip

i feel like 4.4 will have some initial issues....
i was hoping for a nice factory image from google, WHAT HAPPENED!

Rom can compiled without kernel sources and binaries??

Try 4.3 binaries with 4.4 and use older kernel as well
I'm syncing 4.4 right now and will have a go at it

I thought you guys would love the memory efficiency of AOSP.

As you're writing CM10.1 bugs: Is this a port or an AOKP source build?
The reason I ask is that I wanna check something for quite some time now on a build-from-source AOKP.
(adding the p990 to vendor_aokp and referencing the P990 device tree).
Based on the about phone screenshot I'd say it is, if it's not I'll do it myself, it's no biggie.
But if it really is - could you (or anyone) please flash kk 116, OC to 1.5GhZ, run an antutu benchmark two times and post a screenshot of the detailed scores?
I need to compare some results.
Edit: oh by square toggles you probably mean the quicktoggles.
That's interesting, I ran into similiar problems when porting over some features from AOKP.

Mate, noone thinks u release half baked meaningless s****. Every ROM is most welcome here, since people appreciate and love having the choice. Thats what Android is all about, choice
AOKP is actually pretty decent ROM, it had its bugs and quirks, but i hope they got it to a point when its able to replace my daily driver. Will test it a bit later today and report bugs if i find any

Even if someone is thinking that way, let me inform them that the projects you worked on earlier like B2G we very hard ones, and would have had low chances of success for majority of others too. But it was good that you tried, got to learn a lot and came out with this ROM now, looking forward to more work from you

AtrixHD will appear here at some point today, I have too many projects to do individual threads check here every 4-5 hours.
Edit: Also Lewa and Baidu will come at some point too; I just wanted to do ColorOS next because it's more fun and more unique than the other two

Do you have a build with the most recent ColorOS 4.3. I'm curious because I'll be looking to port out the framework and whatnot for the 50mpx camera app on the Find 7.
Is there a certain recovery you have to use cause it's failing for me. I'll try to write what the fail part is.

I hope to not touch 4.3 at all after this is done and move onto 4.4 firmwares right away; 4.1-4,3 is mostly the same, but 4.4 is very significant and is much better for a lot of reasons.
I'm pretty much at the point now where if I'm source-building 4.3 for this device I'm doing it for every device I maintain with these custom firmware ports; I can't justify 4.3 at all since MIUI is almost 4.4 for the 'general population'
Edit: On some devices it actually is, I won't do it until it's pushed to MiCode though

can I instal it on OTA 9.30.1 locked bootloader
Hi it seems that the 926 topic is a bit more active , yea so I wanted to ask you guys, if it's possible to root the device, i tried with tons of methods of JB or SuperSU flashing and that stuff, the su binary gets deleted i think each time by the Color's OS kernel maybe
I'm using the CWM recovery, btw I tried also with the TWRP recovery

Official 5.2 released
We are already working on 5.3, and so far it is freaking AWESOME!
My Lightning Zap! kernel is featured in this Rom. With Validus and Lightning Zap! combined, we have made a spectacular, super smooth, and buttery fast kernel Rom combination.
Enjoy!
**NOTE** If you have random freezes and/or reboots, try downloading trickstermod app from play store and under the general tab, enable frequency lock. Some of our devices don't like to be oc'd for all 4 cpu's. Since cpu 1-3 (aka 2-4) go on and offline, they aren't governed by the underclock settings, meaning there is no setting the mx_cpu_freq to less than 1836mHz. I'm working on fixing this, and hope to have a kernel update out soon.

As System updates means related to google update bt as you are rooted and on a custom rom you wont be able to get the Google system update.

Had to work out some issues because we changed some sources. Running a new build and all should be fixed now. Hopefully, I'll have a build out within the hour...
**EDIT** Sorry guys but some things got broke upstream. I have 5.2 booting, but ringtones and sound notifications still don't work. We are working on it thought and can hopefully have a build out soon. If not tomorrow, then it will probably be after the weekend since I have plans with my family this weekend...

Overview
MIUI-v6 (It's called this in MiCode so I'm going with V6) ported to MSM8960.
Thing is it's awfully ****ed up looking due to it's tablet interface so this is going to take a little bit of work probably.
Working
-Torch
-Data (4G on boot <3 you guys)
-Mounting
-Recorder
-Music
Not working
- Launcher layout
- Dialer (Xiaomi didn't make it LOL)
- ???
WARNING
HEAVILY EXPERIMENTAL, will require a metric fkton of tweaks to become a daily driver most likely I am only posting this to show love and for observation purposes.
Download:
MIUI-v6: Alpha-0.01
PS: It's in tablet UI and prolly all ****ed up but herewegook

Ok I uploaded this, It's pretty incomplete and exists ONLY for people who are curious; this cannot be used as a daily driver; a lot hasn't been translated and the UI is totally mangled because of resolution differences.
This is only for people who are curious about the general direction MIUI is going in, it will not be pleasant or beautiful; minds will not be blown using this firmware a lot of work has to happen still

I would like to do work on S5 TouchWiz, Sense 6. I want to work on interesting firmware that is challenging and this has almost become an art project at this point since at a code level everything mostly works. I have to admit I wasn't really prepared for that.
So pretty much if you folks have seen any firmware of interest let me know in PM and I will try to bring it to the MSM8960 tree
In regards to this I really can't give an ETA, I'd frankly rather just work on something else
Than you for the hard work anyway. You've been trying to get this stable as new versions approach for awhile now. I don't blame you for taking a breather... I must say I have to light you up with a donation for all the time and effort from previous versions... I got you.. Thanks again

Cheers, People
It's so fast, i can't even see it.
I will, as soon as some good soul builds a pure stock AOSP ROM, without any modifications (root, busybox, zipalign, deodex, etc).
Just flash a stock Gapps ontop of it, and it will feel like an official Google update. Oh god yes.

As soon as the source code is uploaded to AOSP, I'm sure it'll rain custom N roms here.
Since google hasn't released the source code, wait and see

Do we know when the source code comes out?
This thread is unnecessary considering there is no official/unofficial ROM available. So no one can share their experience.
BUTTTT... as i go through my android feeds, i miss the experience of flashing the latest build of Android on N5 and play around with it. The sense of excitement of having the latest version on my phone where as the remaining phones around are still running the old version. Now, im still running an old version (Marshmallow)

1. it boots (captain obvious)
2. baseband is working well (mobile network, wifi probably works fine)

Pardon my ignorance, but, if someone builds from AOSP without modifying anything, and apply the device drivers from the Nexus images website, what's to be wrong?
Isn't that what Google does, besides loading Gapps package altogether?

Yeah, there's that. Luckily Nexus 6 uses a Snapdragon 805 chip, so the devs should be able to adapt to the 800.

nope, it is quite a bit different.
what will be done is use MM drivers until they dont work, then we will use CAF drivers(since the msm8974 branch on there will still be updated for n+)
