mmm I don't think so, at least not officialy by sony, based on what I searched it requires 500 MB of RAM, but maybe, if it somehow is lighter than 4.1, developers can made it work on our device hehe
obviously we can't expect it from Sony, but i want to ask whether it will be faster than ics or jB on our x8

I think we should be thankful to the awesome developers here at xda that our device is running 4.1 JB...but porting 4.4 Kitkat to our low end device would be impossible...But u never know anything is possible....

The "low-end device" now means different than 2-3 years earlier.
When the X8 released, it was a low-end device. It was more than 3 years ago. Try to compare the specification with a low-end device from this year and you can see: the old X8 hardware is REALLY FAR from the specs what determine a low-end device today.

You hit the nail exactly. However, I do understand the appeal. When I read the article, a thought crossed my mind that someone someday might port it to the X8... a short, split-second thought
I think the old X8 had much longer lifecycle than someone expected it earlier.
The phone came out with weak hardware (especially the less than 200mb ram) and android 1.6. And now near fully working 4.1.2 available...
Today a "low-end device" means:
-armv7a (we have only armv6 instruction set)
-vfp3/vfp4 (we have the first version of vfp)
-thumb2 instructions (we have the first version of thumb)
-neon (we not have it)
-at least 350-400 mb available ram (typical value of 512mb phones, we have around 175-190, depends from the used kernel)
-and much more powerful cpu (a simple msm7x27A have 3-4 times more raw cpu power on 800-1000 MHz than our overclocked msm7227...)
So, the X8 is a great phone (now I have a Z, but keep the X8 too), but we need to stop dreaming about newer and newer android versions...
@Op
For me Jb ia tooooo much more for our device. This phone havent official froyo, but we have unofficial stable 4.1. Bwtter change
Phone than dreaming 4.4, when we havent still 4.2,
Wysyłane z mojego E15i za pomocą Tapatalk 2
We must be happy with the perfect gingerbread.
This give the best performance/compatibility ratio. The froyo is faster, but the app compatibility is lower.
The ics/jb roms working good, but too heavy for this weak device.
long story short , NO!!
Has anyone found/made a proper mdpi KitKat 4.4 theme yet?
Looks like there is still hope:
Android KitKat / CyanogenMod 11 coming for ARMv6 Phones
but yes, porting to x8 will be a hard task.

Totally agree with you! Our little device is running short with today specifications, but is still running. (Running 4.1 Android versions!!)
That is pretty amazing. Most of that success is due to the fact that it has a large community still working on it.

I wouldn't give up on the idea of having 4.4 on our devices!
Of course, a full version would be impossible, but we have magicians in XDA!!
All I can say is unless you guys have proper binaries from 4.3+, it would be really hard to fix any bugs, let alone port it. For instance, my N7, a Nexus device, with all the source and compatibility, still has auto rotation, gps and other minor bugs that cannot be fixed, even with 4.3 binaries.

Hi guys
I just wondering when android will stop support our phones.
I love my phone and i hate that there is no official newer version of android. I mean 4.x ver.
So what do you think ?
Sent from my GT-I9001 using Tapatalk 2
Well it depends how much resources future android versions take up. The main bottleneck for this phone is the slow storage chip and 512MB of RAM, which will prove hard to overcome if future android versions ask for even more from these 2 compartments. Jelly bean is already making the sgs1 crap itself out from time to time, but these issues will hopefully resolve over time, given the amazing work the devs over here have done in ICS.
Sent from my GT-I9300 using Tapatalk 2
If you mean official support, there's none already.
Samsung did a really bad job, both in the extreme delays in the updates it released and in stopping updates at gingerbread (already 2 versions behind current development).
Google could have helped by directly supporting the i9000, since it's so similar to the nexus s.
But unfortunately, they didn't.
A shame, since this is THE device that took android to the next level.
Fortunately, there's the great work by teamhacksung and cm to keep up with current development.

Even the G1 has a JB port.
As someone who ran froyo on an HTC tytn II, I think it's hard to say that.

I wouldn't be so sure, I just came from the xperia x8. We stopped getting support at 2.1 yet we still have almost bugless ICS ROMs (minus h/w decoding) plus two cm10 ROMs have just been released. All that from a 600Mhz phone with only 190mb usable RAM.
I haven't had any problems so far with jb. Everything's fast and smooth with very little lag which was only when running multiple Gameloft games.

well yes,but only because the nand is far to slow.
Cpu ang gpu are mird range if i guess right
Technically, jelly bean also was too resource hungry for our phones, but the devs managed to do various workarounds.
So it doesn't necessarily mean that the next android version cannot be shoe horned onto our phones.

I want this hardware with cm or pure aosp software, and I'd love it if you all could share some of your knowledge:
What are the challenges, obstacles, and chances of cm on this device happening?
I don't know much about Sony and their way of locking or unlocking the bootloader, so what can we expect here?
Codeworkx praise Sony for their recent contribution to the community, can we expect this to continue?
Are there any new proprietary additions to this phone compared to the other xperia line, something new that will prevent cm running smoothly?
How are the free xperia team going with their work?
Please share and enlighten me.

Cool, but have they succeed with proper ports of cm to xperia, no battery issues, no camera issues, all hardware working properly?
The z has the new "dual camera thingy" (i can't remember what the press release called it) for proper hdr, and considering this is a somewhat new invention, will Sony give out proprietary sources/drivers to create open source versions?
CyanogenMod went well for my arc S, and is coming alon great for my Xperia T.
I can't imagine why the XZ will be any worse.
I think it will actually be better as the XZ will be released on 4.1, with the promise of 4.2 coming soon after.
I can't see poor development being an issue with this device.
You never know until release what the exact problems with a device are going to be.
That said, given how Sony is diverging less and less from reference sources for various platforms with each generation and the fact that it has the exact same SoC as the Nexus 4 - it's looking VERY promising.

Cyanogen launched M builds, which are most stable builds and a few phones launched them. Do you know what is reason, why M builds aren't available on any Sony phone yet (for example Xperia T) ? I thought M builds will be available on phones, which are easier to develop - for example, Nexus, US SGS3, latest Sony phones etc. Thanx

Fxp are the official maintainers for Sony devices for cm. Once the build is stable it is approved by cm and supported, that's how it works for now.
But I'm guessing it'll change as more people will buy Sony and with more developer support who knows might speed up. For now only 4 people (Fxp) manage over 25 Sony devices to get cyanogenmod on them.

How's your xperia s running with that rom (assuming you're running cm, aosp, or aosp)?
I'm asking to get an idea of what to expect in terms of cm/aosp on the z.
I looked at a few videos of Sony's 4.1.1 rom on the pre prod models of the z and i was not very impressed with their work.
I "need" to be able to run cm or any aosp rom as soon as it's in my hands. Yea, I know it's a bit stupid then to not buy a nexus, but i want z hardware (and water proof) and expandable memory. Since nexus won't give me that, perhaps Sony can..?
I'm willing to sacrifice some functions, as long as the camera works (don't need effects, just clear pics) and the battery is good. (bravia and stamina can be sacrificed too, as long as cm doesn't drain more than stock sony)
Atm I'm on sgs3 and cm doesn't work very well battery wise (with 6-9% idle drain pr hour) and also too many camera issues. Having to cripple all the "smart" functions of a smartphone to get acceptable battery just doesn't make sense, so please share some of your views on Sony/cm in this regard.

Codeworkx is different from Fxp. Anywho Fxp has listed z in its supported devices now on its website so yeah i think you can count them in.
It'll depend on codeworkx if he wants to join Fxp or not. I don't have the Xperia t so can't be sure about what you asked. I'll check the thread out and let you know.

Oh my version! Well this new group popped up they made cm10.1 for Xperia S can't be used as a daily driver as of now was just testing it they launched it about a week ago still fixing it up . Other than that i am running cm10.
As far as your questions go Sony supports developers! If you want to get cm on your device don't get it from a carrier! Get it unlocked like me unlock the bootloader and start flashing!
Xperia z shares many similarities in hardware with the nexus 4 so I'm guessing that would mean faster development. The only issue I can think of is camera since its a Sony proprietary! Like with the Xperia S. Had to wait till Fxp got a hold of a leaked beta jb driver. Still doesn't support 1080p video. But it works! On the other hand xperia T has full camera I think and cm10.1 is being worked on.
Bottom line you won't get it asap but you'll get it! Cause here is the thing Sony supports developers and stuff but mostly people go out get a Samsung or htc. Maybe that's why development is a bit slow paced.
If I were you I'd wait a month maybe? Just to see how things go over here in the development forum.
Keep visiting xperiablog.com (everything related to xperias)
And also http://freexperiaproject.com
You'll get an idea of how it's going.
Or you could get it play with the stock Sony rom! Till development kicks in Ps you'll fall in love with the media apps I'm telling you!!

We work together on the CM trees for Sonydevices with codeworkx. There is no difference between FXP releases and CM releases except the buildserver and the more updated FXP releases, because wr dont push our changes everytime directly to git.
So no difference between codeworkx work and FXP work. We all on the same ship and work TOGETHER on the stuff. Sometimes more sometimes less, because anyone can have private problems or just no time for the hobby.

Bin4ry, perhaps you can share some thoughts on cm on this device: Proprietary camera sensor.., battery workings, bootloader and customization, what to expect..?
Support is one thing, working rom is another. Are there any major issues to be expected, or do you reckon this will be smooth sailing? Also, how are the other sony/xperia devices running with cm now? Any big issues?
Thanks mate
I'm sure that CM will run on Z pretty much the same as it runs on nexus 4 . Tell you why . The main point is that they use the same SoC , next, quallcom's documentation is open source because Q has a developer friendly policy
Though some hardships might be faced when dealing with telephone part and camera which will obviously need some time to get fully working. However considering the coding level of CM developers I beleive that thet will put things on right places in a couple of builds .

I covered this a few weeks ago on Google+, but mainly:
A decision was made to "pull an aries" with CM10.1. That means rebasing as much as possible onto the Mako kernel base, just like the Galaxy S (aries) family device maintainers rebased onto the Nexus S kernel base.
The bad: In the short run, when the effort is underway, the device will appear to be behind others.
The good: Once the effort is complete, it should be MUCH easier to keep the device up to date. See the original Galaxy S (aries) family of devices. You know, "the device that just won't die".
There was a pretty big influx of new developers to the platform a month ago, and some of us are still getting up to speed and learning things. For example, I've been focusing on what could best be described as "polishing" on CM10... Taking those little minor annoyances and squashing them. I'll transition over to 10.1 when I'm done. It's kind of nice that I can actually do something like this... Instead of fighting generic platform brokenness all over, I'm working on polishing up a few very minor annoyances. Seriously, my list of things to work on is "broken scaling of anamorphic videos over HDMI"... That's a lot better than "HDMI no worky" on Samsung Exynos devices.

As I understand it, the FXP builds will sometimes contain things that have yet to be merged into the main CM baseline via Gerrit.
For those coming from Samsung devices that codeworkx or I or any of the other CM people have worked on - Think of it as the difference between nightlies and the occasional experimental "test build" from maintainers. With the main difference being that FXP builds are always built each week whether or not there might actually be a difference.
(Correct me if I'm wrong here please.)

Hello everyone !!!
I owned Galaxy ace before and now I'm deciding to go for a new Android .
I was thinking about going for S-Advance[i9070] , but then now it's been discontinued (that's why it's selling so cheap) , currently it's not available in any Samsung Gallery , it's only there in some shops who had purchased large stock of S-Advance [i9070].
The Hardware is just Awesome .. No doubt about it .
But then again this phone is going to become old and outdated like all the other after a year or so ...
Then Custom Rom based on Cyanogen [by some Awesome Dev's] come into picture and keeps outdated phones on par with latest ones ...
Now I want to inquire if S-Advance has any chances of Getting a STABLE Cm10 ????
I've Heard that NovaThor Chipset has Shut Off and there are no drivers available for this Chipset ...
Many phones like Xperia Sola , Xperia U etc... are facing lot's of problems due to this Chipset (Xperia U is released loong time back still has no Drivers for ThorNava Chipset ) .
So what are the chances of Drivers getting released ?
And is it True that Novathor Sources is Directly proportional to getting CM10 for this device ?

i wouldn't suggest the Desire X over the S Advance.
seen both the phones and you wouldn't believe - i first got an SGSA (over the DX) in January at 19500
now in the months of March & April, I got 2 SGSAs (one each for me & my wife) :fingers-crossed:
and just this week an acquaintance got one because of the value for money :good:
if you comfortable with online shopping, you can get it at a steal around 13500 INR

I know the value for money and the Hardware that this device packs ...
but then like I said ... I can't stay with stock Rom forever ...
I'm very much used to this Cyanogen thingy and all other rom based on it (Paranoid,AOKP,PAC)
[I've also myself developed Roms and themes] .
I'm very hesitant to spend on a phone which has discontinued and also the MAJOR Fact that , there are no Drivers ... (Xperia U is released looong back , but it's still struggling JB and Cm10 due to this same NovaThor 8500 chipset ) .
(also many shopkeerps tell that you won;t be able to claim warranty[if i purchase this phone now ]as this model is shut off )
Desire X on the contrary offers similar Ram , processor and graphics are little outdated (but it still plays games like subway surfer, max payne , temple run 2 without lags).
Also HTC gives timely updates and I'm getting something unique like the Beats Audio processor and a camera with more features like BURST SHOTS and more FOCAL lense to capture light (also there will be offical Cm10.1 , as there are no problems with the driver releases I guess) .
Well it's your choices... when i came over to this thread there was mostly nothing except few roms about 3-4 max perfect working... and now we have so many roms CM10 is not an exception... Shaaan is working hard and has much of it fixed except ril well lets see what happens

Maybe I'll wait a week or two to see the Development that @Shaaan is doing and also what happens of the Petition that Xperia users have Signed to obtain the Drivers of novaThor.
I have a feeling we're actually gonna be getting this now.
That is there for a looooooong time

About 5 months of investigation now...
Sony have never been fast, but this is just crazy...
It shouldn't take more than a day or so, to find out the needed information (if drivers are pressent for the hardware and so on), and make the decision...

The only I know is that in the Nexus 7 (2012) KitKat has a lot of bugs if you compare with 4.3, 4.3 on XV works very good, I wont complain if 4.4 never comes, im really happy with everything on this phone and the last I want is these bugs also in my phone...
But if 4.4 finally arrives and bugfree well, I think at least Sony will enhance the experience with added capabilities

You mean you can actually port, build and test 4.4 for Xperia V with all the customisations within just one day? Sony must hire you ASAP.

You are far off with that comment...
The investigation part, is only to look at the hardware and find out if every needed drivers are available...
Then, when all drivers are available, the ONLY thing that is needed is for the company CEO to make the decision to actually build the Rom for the unit...
And then after that, all the "investigation" is done...
Then only building the Rom remains, but that part is not "investigation" at all, because at this point all possibly opsticals (drivers and so on) are clear and solved !
If you was right then ALL Sony phones, including the Z1 should have been labeled "under investigation" until the release day of KitKat...?

Unlike you I have no access to Sony's internal procedure manuals for firmware development, so I'm speaking based on what my company (Panasonic) does when it considers firmware upgrades for handsets. For us, investigation phase means getting a generic build with certain customisations to run on target hardware.
Actual development phase involves optimisations and debugging.
its looks like good

Just look at how SONY usually do things...?
The "investigation" label, is not what Sony usually calls it when they are in development, so atm. i am pretty shure that nothing is done, and SONY just at some point abandon the product line...
But let's wait and see...

The chances of Sony releasing 4.4 for the t,tl,tx and v is 0.01%. Have a look at the way they have previously updated models
Sent from my One X using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
Indeed it's probably too unlikely fr Sony to release 4.4 for V, but sometimes miracles do happen. Who knows.
Don't count it out. It said the same thing for ZR while the Z and Z Ultra had their 4.4 confirmed. It was only recently they confirmed ZR.

Hey, bro, U r too optimistic:victory::victory::victory:
A bit disappointing. XV was, back in the day, heavily compared side by side to its months older competitor, Galaxy S3, yet that exact competitor now recieve Kitkat upgrade and XV will (highly likely) be left in the dark.
Hi guys,
Is there any chance of seeing Android 5.0 lollipop on this device.
Sorry if this is a repost.
Thank you
Noooooope.
Can any of the developers to port the art to any of our phone? Because this time is with full features and well optimised. It would increase stability more than it is in this moment . I would to like to see that effort that it would be made for this thing to be possible. Everything is possible if you really want

Android 5.0 Lollipop from Team Canjica probably will never see the light. In our opinion, Galaxy S Advance and in generally STE-based devices are too weak to handle well another Android major release.
The fact is that more time passes, more OS and applications become heavier and complex.
Was a pain to get a "stable" (between quotes since still has some issues like huge battery drain, that can't be fixed) Kitkat.
Another major release means heavier, more complex, CPU even with OC is too slow to handle and execute well threads, RAM memory is too little and this means lags, impossibility to run big apps and the Mali 400 single core GPU is too weak for more complex graphic effects in games that will come and especially in transitions between menus, pull down status bar etc. The last perfect major release for this device is Jelly Bean 4.3, to build any major release means that we need to research and find (with A LOT OF TESTING) how to fix bugs, means that we need to develop new OMX patches to make camera and videos working. KitKat is okay but huge battery drain and a lot of lags are signal that it's the last major release that these STE devices can handle in a non-stable way against JB 4.3 that it's almost (to not say "totally") stable. Now, stop a moment and imagine Lollipop, totally ruined user experience. Do you wanna live together with device lagging 99/100 times (1/100 without lags rightly after power on, maybe) and with charger always connected? We should be lords of our devices, not slaves. Nobody of us still uses a STE device and without is totally impossible to develop what has never been developed, if you want to keep updated I'm sure that you would change device asap, today even a 100€ device is more powerful than these. Janice will be 3 years old on April 2015, it's just the future coming...
We loved this device, development, known good guys here... Officially this device died on 4.1, Team Canjica gave you 3 major releases!!!
Never forget
@diego-ch @frapeti @Paul L @Rox do you agree with me?

Completely !
@AntaresOne @Rox
Thats sad and brutal true.
O our device is not a tytan of performance .
But still (IF u look and test all CM builds (starting form CM 10) u will see that CM 11 is the most stable.
On jellybean roms (CM based) there are bugs that were fixed in KITKAT.
As AntaresOne told our device is anable (propably) to boot android 5.0/CM 12 . But whats the point od having phone thats compleatly out of RAM and need charger after 5 hours in deepsleep ?
But still having bootnable lolipop will be interesting (for testing).

What I meant is yes, KK ROMs are stable about bugs (except huge battery drain), but in the performance profile? They're very fast but just some minutes and will start to lag...
Galaxy S Advance may surely boot Lollipop, but can't handle well!

And fix 4.3 bugs?
Will be awesome, Rox did it for codina and work so good.
I think it'd be awesome to get on stable build of cm10.1 since so many say it is fast with good battery life. Personally I haven't tried it due to the remaining bugs.

S3 Mini also STE device but slightly better in ram, New Maclaw already did with android 5.0 .
So I think SGSA will still have the chance, pls DON'T cut off the development for SGSA.

Why can't it be possible? when htc explorer can get it?
if low end devices like htc explorer have got it.. why can't it be possible for Samsung Galaxy S Advance? which is way better than HTC Explorer?

I can't believe finally our s advance will not receive android lollipop; i must agree, why there are some older and less performant device which receive cyanogenmode 12????i think s advance still has. Some potential,( although his age); it was (and still) my first android phone, i think it is a great phone ...it will remain forever in my mind... I just remeber when yuo develop cyanogen mode 11 android kitkat ,and i flash it, ....you did a miracle! Actually i still use it, no bug(just a little sometimes), no lags, work very fine, so let the miracle repeat!
I think the fault was of samsung tha wasn't clement with this device (samsung suck).., they release a very awfull upgrade , very very bad, a lot of bug, at the time, it lag also to reproduce video, on browser web...it was unusable, so thi was the reason why i installed cyanogen mode; so i hope, you will hear our prayers...let the miracle repeat again!!!
