Question about Rooted phone without unlocking boot-loader

I asked this question in Android development forum but it was closed (without any comment, mad at Mods) here it is again, need pro's advice:
Recently I succeeded to root my phone with this great guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=710842
(without cutting my battery )
Now I have two questions:
1. What should I avoid to keep my warranty? I now that I didn't unlock boot-loader so my warranty should be OK now, but what command exactly will unlock it and void my warranty? I know most people here assume that you unlocked boot-loader and they even use these two terms "unlock boot-loader" and "root" with the same meaning. Specifically does this command unlock boot-loader or void warranty? "adb root"
2. What should I avoid so I keep my root access? I know that if I flash the stock OTA FRF91 it will remove this root access, or if I flash an stock radio?! What would exactly force me to do the guide again to root the phone?
far as i know from G1 days flashing radio updates will not loose root, but flashing a ota update or "stock rom" over any will wipe and put you back from start with no root access, long as its a custom ROM you should be ok to flash away..
I too is on stock FRF91, with you root acess only and kinda want to keep it that way.. i may flash amon ra recovery img and go to enomther ROM, as thats closes to stock as possible..

You only lose your warranty if you unlock your bootloader (specifically using the command fastboot oem unlock). Unlocking the bootloader turns of the OEM security and allows flashing of test signed images. Root is an entirely different concept where software on the phone is allowed to run with elevated root user privileges. Unlocking the bootloader allow you to flash custom images with the fastboot command. Without unlocking (and with root access), you would need the flash_image binary to do the same. Note that Google can void your warranty if you have root or a custom ROM when you send it for service, so u'll have to flash the shipping ROM and/or OTAs prior to sending.

Installing any OTA or shipping ROM from Google/HTC with remove root access. Also, installing a custom ROM without root binaries will also remove root access (this would rarely exist).
Another Question
Thanks for replies, so helpful.
Now my question is does OTA updates include recovery software? if I installed a custom recovery and install OTA, do I still have custom recovery? I can install SU again because I would stay with stock ROMS with root access.

No. Your custom recovery is separate from the ROM.
As long as you have a custom recovery, you can NOT properly download/install/flash the OverTheAir update.

Why I cant install OTA update? it is a signed zip file and my custom recovery should be able to install it? What is special about this OTA?

Well, the official OTA are signed by Google/HTC and the signature checks in custom recoveries can only validate the test signatures... only the official recoveries can validate the OTA signatures...
how to install RA recovery without unlocking boot loader?
Read Nexus One Wiki, in section "Guides"/"Root", then in section "Recovery", instead of spamming multiple threads.

Help rooting?

Hello all,
Im totally confused as to how to go about rooting my device c6902. Ive owned a couple of android devices and Ive rooted them all, however....with this device and there seem to be different ways people have rooted from reading the threads and im totally confused, So far I have unlocked the bootloader, and upgraded the device OTA to lollipop .242 (before the bootloader was unlocked), I dont intend installing any custom firmware, just want root so I can use TB and maybe delete a few bloatwares with root explorer and use xposed.
Im confused as to whether:
1. I have to downgrade firmware to kitkat, just to get root, then upgrade back to official firmware?
2. Ive been under the impression that a custom recovery and supersu, is enough to get root. It doesnt work that way on this device?
3. I saw some oneclick root programs that worked on the z1 compact would any work here
Just trying to know more about the phone and understand, so any help is appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Using the guide on the link I just posted, you are not required to unlock the bootloader, unlocking the bootloader without backing up the TA partition can cause problems with your phone.
You need to downgrade to KitKat 4.4.4 with kernel 108, then root it with easyroot install supersu and rootchecker to make sure your phone is rooted, the use NUTs recovery to create a recovery partition, after that search XDA forums for a pre-rooted lollipop flashable zip and install that, and voila you should be on lollipop with root and recovery.
I am not sure about one-click root programs.

Thanks for your help.
I already unlocked the bootloader though. Do I need to downgrade the whole kitkat rom or flash just the kernel? thanks
Figured out. Thanks

question on removing root

So I finally got 4.0 flashed with TWRP and SuperSU working. Now I try to install our companies email solution (AirWatch agent) and of course it won't run on a "compromised" device with root access. What's the best way to go forward from here? Do I need to reflash to get rid of evidence of root? Can I keep nougat and TWRP or do I need to revert somehow and wait for the OTA update? Thanks in advance
Edit - also, will I have to relock the bootloader? Sorry for all the questions, little new at all of this

Some questions

I got my device on next week and I have some questions:
If I want root, I need to unlock bootloader?
I got OTA updates if my bootloader was unlocked? and what about TWRP?
I can install OTA update on TWRP without data loss?
If my phone is rooted I need to install OTA only with TWRP?
Thanks.

Ota still downloadable after unlocked BL and yes you can install ota on twrp without data loss (correct me if im wrong)
So doing adb sideload first to 4.0.2 and unlock my bootloader and install twrp with root?
I am afraid to brick my phone (many users here brick this phone)

Bricking your phone while rooting is actually a very rare thing.
So doing adb sideload to 4.0.2 or flash twrp on 3.5.4
And after that install 4.0.2 clean with this?

Issues with unlocking WW version

Hello All,
First of thanks for writing all the helpful guides to unlock and root the RogPhone. I just got my new Rogphone 3 and I am trying to unlock the bootloader to root it and install Xprivacy mods to have a better control over of my privacy. Being a first timer I had certain questions that I wanted your answers on.
1. I am running software version WW_17.0823.2009.99.
2. I have unlocked my bootloader. That means I will not get OTA updates. Is there a way to side load and update these fixes?
3. How is ROM support for Rogphone in general? I get that this phone is relatively new and it will take some time to get other ROMs but I was wondering about the general trend
OTA updates not possible once bootloader is unlocked.
However, thereafter updating to the latest WW firmware is easy. Just download latest WW FW on to the root of Internal Storage folder of your phone (as is, don't change name); this file should be detected automatically and prompt you to update.
Custom ROM development for ROG3 is unfortunately non-existent at the moment. I hope this changes soon.
Ah! did not know this trick! Can I also use the TWRP to flash it? Will it be the same?
I am not sure about flashing WW .zip updates via TWRP on Android 10 (I don't think it's possible) - It's better to enquire in this forum's TWRP thread @ Captain_Throwback.
