Hello Everyone.
Its has come to my attention that alot of people are having issues rooting the new OTA MJA 4.3. I have found the safest way to root MJA without any problems. Ive had several members test my method and it has worked on the frist try without any problems. I'm going to give my steps in a detailed way that it is very easy to understand and as well download links to what i used to root 4.3 MJA. Now here we go everyone.
Items Required
1. A GS4 on the 4.3 MJA OTA
2. Laptop or desktop
3. USB cord
4. ODIN 3.07
5. CF Root
6.CWM 6.0.4.4(Comfirmed working on the I9000 and I9505 for restore backups without any issues)
DISCLAIMER: I am not at fualt for anything happening to your phone. If you follow my guide word for word you want have any issues. Note this well still trip the knox counter to 0x1. As there is no way to stop this from happening at this time.
STEP ONE
First things first download all the files you need from the links below. While thats do that grab your S4 and hold the power button down until the menu pops up and select power off and hit ok. Now make sure you let the device power down fully before doing anything esle or you will have issues. Once powered down fully take ur phone and press and hold the power+volume down until you see green words on the screen and hit the volume up button to continue and now your in download mode.
STEP TWO
Now find CF Root file you will have to open the zip with 7zip. Now start ODIN 1.85 and now connect your device to your computer via the USB cord. You should see a yellow box with the word COM in it doesn't matter what the number is. Now hit the PDA button and select the CF Root tar file. Then hit start and dont unplug the USB cord until it says pass in odin. It will reboot and let it reboot fully and go to your app drawer and check and make sure SuperSU is in the app draw open it and update it. Now go to play store and download rootchecker app and verify that you have root.
STEP THREE
Once you have verified your rooted now hold the power button down wait for the menu to pop up and hit power off the device dont forget to let fully power down and now hit the power+volume down and wait for the green letters to pop up and hit the volume up to continue in to download mode. Now open ODIN3.07 and then hook your device back to your computer wait for the yellow or blue box with COM and any number and go to PDA button and select the CWM 6.0.4.4 tar file and hit the start button and wait for ODIN to say pass which now with the new bootloader it adds a extra 2 min to the boot time so the phone boot and sit until odin says pass and now you are rooted and have a custom recovery. Now power down the device and wait for it to finish powering down for the last time and press and hold power+volume up until you see blue, red and yellow words in the top left corner and now your in your custom recovery and now make a backup so if anything happens you have something to fall back on. Cuz your on 4.3 now until furture notice theres no returning to MF9 the bootloader will not let you go back if you try to you will tons of problems and headaches trust me ive seen the posts.
Now you have successfully rooted and put a custom recovery on your S4 with the 4.3 MJA update. If having any issues plz dont be scared to ask i will do what i can help you. ENJOY!!!!

This guide will work if you take the OTA I dont think it will work if your have the the MF9 bootloader. I did unroot MF9 then I install the 4.3 OTA then rerooted after that. Sorry for all the confusion and problems everyone is having with this guide I should have been more clear.

Great simple write up G!
This puts together what's in about six different posts offer many pages.
Also,
Can someone provide a source on the "confirmation" that Sprint will replace the phone. I saw a few people say that on some other threads, but have yet to see a source - reputable I mean. I know I'd be real pissed if I killed my$500 device and was left in the cold.

Well here is my 2 cents on it. I know this device pretty good, and I notice a major difference in how things are with MJA. The visual changes were astounding after I updated, cause the display is so so much cleaner, I was so amazed. No lag, great smoothness in transitions and such. Also yes, you will need 4.3 for full gear support, but man I'll tell ya, we've made some good strides in the past few days with all the drama 4.3 dropped on us. YES, there are a few hoops to Jim thru to eat to MJA, and no, you cannot go back to MF9 at the moment, but Why would anyone expect this to all to be so easy eventide is crazy.
Today wth security concerns, and tech getting more and more advanced, things are bound to change. I don't thnk this update is worth selling the S4. Only got UF working on his rom update FOR MJA and he also got a flashable for the modems if your still on MF9, which people said couldn't be done. You got Sac already workng on MJA, and a few others helping us out as well. CNexus, likearaptor, ect.....
So my conclusion to my Trolling, Off-topic, subject for cancelation of my account possibly lol, It's all p to you. If you wanna experience Google and Sammy 's newest edition for or device, and have full support for your Gear, then yes, go for it. But f you can't live without some hardware tweaks, themes, ect.. For a week or so, then I would say no. Dude, you should know me by know. You think I like running the StockUI lol? NOOOOOOOOO lol...
Edit... And Primo, This is all after in used THIS method to gain 4.3. It's really very easy. You have me on Hangouts if ya need me, and Teddy here is a frakken awesome guy, he'll help you out for surr if needed
**Sorry Teddy lol, I'll erase this all if you like**

That is correct. What the data wipe version means is that it wipes the data but keeps your internal storage (i.e. pictures, music etc...) from being wiped.
Ok cool. That makes sense. I was overthinking it.

You can either keep the MDC kernel or install Shabby's MDL kernel. I will be putting it in the OP of the Rom later but for now it is in the OTA zip thread. Around page two I think.

OK still testing but this is what I got. I restored back to MDC. I installed MDL Rom. I installed Shabby's kernel. I installed the Nag Fix. I rebooted. As soon as the system came up the nag was there. Immediately rebooted on my own, not with the prompt. It has been about 30 minutes and the nag has not returned. I am trying to get the modem to work but will do more lengthy testing later on. This damn modem is kicking my ass. Never had this much trouble before.
Edit: The nag came back.
I did odexed mdl rom data wipe, mdl nagfix, and mdl hotspotmod.
I installed google wallet and it says unsupported device.. can you point me what i did wrong and to the direction to get it work?
and i know it's noob question but what is MDL and MDC? i just got GS4 yesterday i'm so confused.
Thanks

I believe it is going to say that as long as you are rooted. I have never used Wallet so I am not sure if there is a fix for that. MDC and MDL are the OS versions. M is the year 13, D is the month 4 and L is the day or revision +9. It used to be two number which made it a lot easier. MD21 instead of MDL. Not sure why it was changed. Hope that helps.

Description
The Galaxy S4, like its predecessors and some other devices, has a hardcoded "increasing ring" feature where the ringtone starts out quiet and gradually gets louder, reaching full volume in about 3 or 4 seconds. Some people don't want this (like me).
There are two ways to work around this behavior. First, you can use an app, such as Disable Increasing Ring. The advantage is that you don't need root. The disadvantage is that now you have an app running 24/7, using up memory unnecessarily, albeit a very small amount. The second solution is to patch the SecPhone.apk. That's what this mod does.
Most of the credit goes to gharrington in this post whose method I used to patch SecPhone.apk.
Feel free to use in ROMs, redistribute, etc., but remember to give credit.
Instructions
As with all mods, nandroid backup in case something goes wrong. This mod is provided as-is, use at your own risk, etc.
You can install this one of two ways. The ZIP file can be installed from pretty much any recovery, such as TWRP. It will automatically clear cache/dalvik. Or you can manually copy over the APK with a root file explorer.
Note
I'm using a MDC ROM currently, so I modded the SecPhone.apk that came with MDC. I don't know if that particular apk has changed in later official ROM updates. I can easily perform this mod on newer versions if someone wants to PM me newer SecPhone.apk file in /system/app. I'll try to keep this thread up-to-date as newer updates come down the pipe for as long as I have this device.
Download

APK file: SecPhone.apk - 10.51 MB

It appears as though you can flash the zip in recovery. The .apk is also attached, so you could move that to system/app to replace your existing secphone.apk, set permissions and reboot. Or you could adb push the .apk to the system/app directory and adb reboot. I'm pretty sure any of those methods will work.
Any chance of getting call record enable in your apk?

Well I applied the necessary patches, but it didn't work. The button appears, but the button doesn't activate anything or sometimes the phone app just crashes when you press it. It just might not work with MDC as I saw others stating basically the same thing with MDC ROMs. You can try the MDN version in that post. Unfortunately, I don't know enough about what's going on behind the scenes, so I don't know how to debug this. It's too bad because call record would be really handy.
Still waiting on ForceROM to update to MDL then I can get to work on the MDL version.
Can you post the file so I can try it? Im on ForceROM running MDL...

The first (very mildly) customized ROM for NVIDIA SHIELD... Tweaker.
For those who tried SHIELD on launch day (or early on before the OTA was applied), it had a dashboard with bigger graphics that were easier to read. Now, it's just icons. I don't like the icons. So a little bit of hacking together pieces (and adding SuperUser while I was at it) resulted in TweakerRom.
Don't expect much difference, at least not until I get CM-10.2 done for SHIELD. But this has a nicer interface, in my opinion, and is based on the latest OTA 1.1 release (with the SHIELD UI from the original image)
You need to install a SuperUser app (I highly recommend SuperSU) but you don't need to use recovery to do it.

This is great! Will flash this tonight once I can get CWRM to flash properly in fastboot...
Awesome! I'm glad to see the first step being made, but I'm going to hold out until 10.2. I'm getting lazy in my old-ish age.:silly:
Sorry BUT:
I hate to be "that guy" but could you put up a mirror or can I? These are my speeds:
and... I am getting a 850kb per second download speed.

I just finished Unlocking and Flashing your recovery when the download finished (YES I unlocked it just for this ROM). I have to say: I LOVE the interface, I never got to see it but it is SO much better! Thanks for pioneering the development over here, there isn't much at all... I plan to do some theming stuff once I get around to it XD

If you do not have the stock recovery then you cannot install the factory update. If you installed this rom you don't have the stock recovery.

All you asked was if you could get the update while having this rom. I did answer the question. Was not trying to be difficult. Next time I guess I will just say no and you figure can the rest out.

The SHIELD is a bit of an unusual exception here - most of their OTAs seem to be full system images, instead of delta patches.
While this makes the OTAs much larger, it also makes them much more robust.

Hey everyone, me again! So with Android 4.4 out for the Nexus 4, I thought some folks might need a little help installing it, or maybe just need a visual aid to help. So I made a How To video. Hopefully it helps some people :fingers-crossed: If it does, maybe hit that "Thanks" button?
Thanks dude just what I was looking for!

I have an easy root fix for once you update to 4.4 if you have Mac
I modified the Root.Nexus.4.zip file for Mac on here, updated it to CWM 6.0.4.3 image, and SuperSU 1.65 image. Just unzip, and run the Root.Nexus.4 terminal shell script with the N4 in fastboot with USB connected to the Mac, I think you can use a similar script for PC and prob need USB drivers if you don't have them already. Hope this helps
I'm unable to post a link on here since I'm a newb, PM if you want the link to the zip
Thanks
Another build available here : http://www.androidauthority.com/android-4-4-kitkat-nexus-4-nexus-7-download-unofficially-313352/.
Flashed this in CWM, everything, including root is absolutely fine. (I flashed SuperSu 1.65 zip). But for the proper google experience, have to wait for the factory images.
The lockscreen widgets functionality (except for the camera widget) seems to have been removed, can anyone find that option anywhere?
Edit: Lockscreen widgets can be enabled in Settings->Security.

Stock lollipop deodexed but back on kit Kat I had an AOSP ROM, Pure Nexus by Joe-tech, it's in the development section. Just don't try flashing any Roms for the S4 Active international version (i9295), definitely not compatible

According to other users yes, I always played it safe and went from stock kit Kat to stock lollipop and then flashed the ROM so I can't say for sure. I'll draw you up a debloat list in a little while when I get a free moment

Check out the OP in this thread for an extensive list of system apps safe to remove, it's the list I originally went off of. Yeah it was made for kitkat, but nearly all the names are the same and those that aren't are pretty easy to figure out. Freeze or uninstall any and all unwanted bloatware with Titanium Backup, it's what I did. Some general pointers, uninstall any system app: with knox in the name, with AT&T in the name, anything google like Google+ or hangouts is safe to get rid of (obviously don't touch the play store or play services), and you can get rid of, for example, the stock Samsung email or calendar apps, just don't get rid of the sync services otherwise replacement third party apps won't run properly (i.e. you can uninstall calendar, but not calendar storage). Sorry I couldn't give you a better answer for now
I know on NH3 if you uninstall Samsung Hub your screen rotation will not work and no idea why it may just be my phone. I don't know if this is the case for OC6 I left hub installed for now. There is however a fix if you have that problem without having to reinstall Hub

I assume you mean this fix? Yeah that worked for me for both NE3 and NH3. However you can safely uninstall Samsung hub on OC6, I did and no rotation issues. Hell I was even able to mod android.policy.jar for full 360° rotation on the deodexed rom. But point being this is no longer an issue for OC6, feel free to get rid of Hub.

Practically everything I know about modding stock Samsung system apps either comes from this thread or is at least linked to in it
Some examples: getting rid of the battery cover toast, disabling home button on/wake on text message or USB plugin, coloring/theming systemui and settings, flashlight in pull down menu, CRT screen off effect, changing carrier text, etc. I'm sure I'm forgetting more, but those are some of the mods that for me into that sort of thing
