Is there a way to have the FM Radio app working without pluging the headset?
As far as I know: No.
The phone has no integrated fm antenna and therefore uses the headphone or any other audio cable cable instead.
I also noticed a difference in signal strength and quality with different kinds of cables / headphones.

Does this possibly mean thicker cables will receive signals better?

I guess it depends more on length, isolation and most of all placement of the cable.
Do you have problems with a weak fm signal?

Works perfectly with the app TuneIn Radio, that wont ask you to plug a headphone.

Wait, you have a Z1 without data connexion? I'm not sure that an app can really use only the FM radio and allow you to not plug a headset
For the FM i can see FM freq station in TuneIn Radio, but it seems that it's only for information? (didn't know that)
My friend I don't want to spend data on radio. Many android can, not good reception though

Try looking in the xperia T apps forum. That one may be compatable or you may find out how it was modded to work

The issue is that I sometimes want to sit at home and listen to the radio but don't want to put the headphones on because I want to be free to move and my phone is on charge or also connected to the PC etc....
You do not have to use the headphones as the output device, they just need to be plugged in. Try tabbing on the headphone icon in the upper left corner, it should toggle between headphone and speaker output.

OK, but still, its has been modded on most other xperia phones to enable this to work. I will have a look at it when I get some time, but this is low on my priority list and I am very busy ATM.
If someone is really desperate for it just OM one of the people that have done it for other phones and attack the Walkman.apk.

I have run into an interesting problem...
I want to put together a car kit that charges my XDA Orbit via the cigarette lighter and USB port, but I also want to be able to be able to hook my phone up to the car stereo to play music. The delema I have of course is that to connect an FM transmitter or audio cable to the phone I need the USB port free :S
The only solution I an think of is to have some sort of bluetooth receiver that can receive the MP3 music, and then transmit it to the stereo by either FM or a a cable... I have no idea if something like this is possible?
Any thoughts? Suggestions? ideas?

haha so i was messing with the radio today and i got it working with no wire. SORTA. So i plugged in the adapter in to the usb port and then stuck my stylus into the 3.5mm jack it fits and it make the radio work. try it. I'm going to try to find some thing to fit into the 2.5 mm jack and see if it works? Ill let u guys know
Lol, reserved
HAHA , it works
wow this worked remarkably well lol and to my suprise you don't have to jam it in there and it fits quite nicely.
it works
nice work and nice find..... yes it works fine
Just be careful not to short anything out, could be bad news!
haha this is tite
Why stylus?
What do you mean by "adapter", konefatp? I assume one of these.
I got me one straight after I got the TP and the radio works just by plugging it in, no need to use the stylus. So I don't see your point.

Alternatively you can also try the xFM radio player I wrote, it doesn't check earphone and support more features such as read radio text, listen to police station by selecting Japan band etc.

If toggling that reg setting does work, then you could create an app that sets it, launches the radio app and waits for the radio app to finish, and then switches it back again - pretty straightforward. However, is anybody getting any signal without the headphones plugged in? I don't seem to get anything.

I've looking at a few head units to replace my existing stereo. I tried a few units with built in bluetooth at the local big box store.
I set up my phone to play both bluetooth audio and attempted to make a phone call, but the 'helpful' store employee asked me to put my phone away (evidently they're afraid I was amazoning the price). I told the guy I was pairing the bluetooth, but he didn't care. Too bad, because making a phone call would've sealed my sale. I guess I'll amazon it.
I was deciding between a Kenwood & Sony... sorry I didn't get a chance to record the model numbers, but they were ~$175.

Actually, they can, inside their store. It's private property and they can ask you to either turn off your phone or leave. If you refuse to turn it off, they can tell you to leave. If you refuse to leave, you're legally trespassing and they can have you arrested.
In any case, they clearly didn't want your money.

I have a Kenwood in my car with BT. It auto connects to my Incredible but only if I have the "phone" option under advanced BT settings set to connect. If I just have media set to connect it wont auto connect. But if you use the hands free BT then you'll be fine. It'll auto connect to both phone and media audio.

The guy didn't threaten me, he just kind of shrugged and pointed towards the spy camera. I ended up with a Clarion _Z500 (I forget the first letter) for $50 off since it was missing the remote. I didn't need the remote since I sit 2' away. Thankfully everything can be accessed via the panel.
It's nice (though not as good as the one in my acura). Via bluetooth it pauses music, answers calls, accesses my phone book and makes a decent call with the included mic.

It also doesn't work well anywhere that FM radio signals have trouble getting to.

You can use a FM transmitter, but it's not that great in Belgium (overwhelmed FM frequencies).
Or get a car with USB port
Sometimes, radios have an 3.5 AUX input at the back.. I know mine doesn't, and I 'd need to get some expensive equipment for my phone to simulate presence of a CD tray and be able to output through radio.
You can use bluetooth if your car supports it. You wont be able to use MIUI or CM7 then though.
I got a jack in and a usb on radio, but looking for a dock that fits in my din slot (in guess I need to build one myself, does someone know one to begin from?
I have a car with 2din, in the top is my radio, in the lower one I want to place the phone in a "dock" (in landscape)
Connecting the phone is no problem
Or i want to fit the phone in the 2 din and remove the radio, and use the phone as radio, like in the YouTube video

You can't replace headunit just like that, because it is needed to amplify weak headphone level sound output, if nothing else.
Using our phone for that is PitA. Two cables, two connectors and no dock to replace that mess. You'll be better off with iPhone (did I say that?!) or some older HTC which had extUSB connector with USB, sound and mic all in one. Now, with microUSB, forget it : (

Looks promising, especially for owners of the Xperia V who are afraid their flaps will eventually get loose. I was thinking of getting one (primarily in order to use it with headphones to listen to music on the go), but I'm afraid having Bluetooth activated over longer periods will accelerate battery drain. So I was wondering - is anybody using it already? And if yes, how is battery life affected when using it?
Also, does it ship with earphones? I already got the ones from my V which I don't use, and I don't need another pair honestly ...

Just got it today, it's really nice, but NFC function is really useless, it connects the headset and turns bluetooth on, but you have to use NFC fuction always on which drains the battery more then idle bluetooth. So I connected it manually and it connects automatically each time I turn headset on with all the devices it was once connected. It's good for those who use NFC a lot.

Somebody on this forum told about Xperia that useing bluetooth headset takes less power then listening to music through wired headphones plugged directly to the phone, not sure though.
My experience shows that NFC feature takes 1-2% more than idle bluetooth on my Sony Xperia Acro S through the night.
Thanks guys!
Btw., I just ordered it for my birthday
I think some people are misunderstanding NFC here, the music isnt streamed through NFC, It would be usless if that was the case. It uses bluetooth to stream, the initial connection to the device is created via a tap with NFC enabled. NFC only works in the proximity of a couple of MM.
My experince with bluetooth headphones is very positive, barely any battery drain directly with bluetooth headphones and liveview attached to my XperiaT.
I use a bluetooth speaker in my car and find the battery drain is significantly less than playing it through the devices inbuilt speaker.

Hello. I am looking to buy Sony SBH20 to use with my Lumia 920 and desktop computer. Currently I am using a Jabra Street 2. I wanted to know a few things.
1. How is the mic quality when on a call? Is the background noise of wind, people around you audible when on a call from the mic itself? I had this problem with my Nokia BH-214 handsfree but not with my Jabra Street 2 so I am cautious when buying these.
2. Does the handsfree add its own Bass/Treble to songs being played? My Jabra Street 2 does it and it is annoying as I can't listen to songs in their pure form.
3. Do you have access to a Nokia Lumia 920? Can you please check if there is any problem with it? It is ok if you don't have access.
