I don't have any clear pictures of the battery space but the connectors from ifixit seem to be the same as the Nexus 5 older brother LG G2.

Im not promoting the ebayer, just a thread for a discussion of transplanting a larger battery into the N5.

*insert TOO MANY DAMN THREADS ABOUT THIS meme*
quick and dirty thoughts are that the two batteries are not the same shape/dimensions, and thus it cannot be a "strait transplant"
that's also without seeing the G2 battery.
i went 3 pages down and didn't see it mentioned. Its not meant to be a question. since the tear down pictures are just starting to roll in. if someone has close ups of the orientation and connector and maybe even a digital caliper for thickness, might be possible.
If i had a digital caliper I'd offer that info here.
I can't find the thread now, but there is some 7mm extra hight in the LG G2 battery compared to the N5 battery... and, looking at the internals of the N5, there just is now way you would squeeze that in... even if you did, the battery connector is on the wrong side of the phone
I've both g2 and n5, battery size and case are not same. Don't when try it.

I would post this under the accessories forum but there doesn't seem to be much threads there if any so this forum would be more suited from fellow owners of the phone. Anyone know if an extended/extra capacity exist for this phone? I'm specifically looking for one that has higher mah rating but doesn't require extra space or aftermarket cover to install. i tried searching around and wasn't able to find this. thanks in advance for any feedback!
Extended battery with Clear Protector for entire phone Motorola Droid
Use this and your battery life more than doubles. It is very comfortable, rubberized coating, and the battery rocks. The door is quite thin considering and fits comfortably in the hand. They are also going to make custom clear protectors for the entire phone and have them up for sale within 2 weeks.

Someone wants to trade my HTC Rezound for a Droid 4...i kinda want something new until my upgarde (in October) and was just wondering if you guys think this is a good trade.
The guy also said he upgraded the battery and he had a pro do it at cellus...i thought that the battery couldn't be removed?

That sounds a little fishy to me. I've never heard of anyone successfully upgrading the battery on a D4.

That's what i was saying..he said he paid 89.99 for it...im supposed to meet him at a Verizon store Sunday to trade so i guess ill get a look at it then.
The battery can be removed with some effort, however I'm not sure if it can be upgraded (as that usually requires a different battery cover).

No problems with replacing battery with same original battery. There only 2 screws.
Just bought a Note 2, currently I have a Galaxy S3 with the official extended battery. This gives a small increase in capacity (3000mAh) and also a small amount of thickness added on compared to standard.
Most of the extended batteries for the Note 2 are huge, I am curious to know if anyone has experienced any trusted extended batteries, possibly an extra 1000mAh+, but only adding a small thickness to the phone like the official one for S3, instead of the large batteries like Zerolemon etc.
I've been looking for something like that too. Haven't found one yet. I don't like the bulk that the big extended batteries add to the already huge device.
they are all double the size of the normal battery nothing thinner.

I dont see the point of buying a thin extended battery. If you want more battery life then get MORE battery life.

Well I don't need a battery that lasts for 4 days or whatever, just slightly longer than stock. And I do not wish to increase the thickness of the phone 2x, 3x etc for extra power that I don't need.
The genuine extended for the S3 was the perfect solution, I just wish similar existed for the Note 2.

I have had this same range for my HTC One X. When the battery feeds the device, it constantly told me that the power used is larger than it receives from the battery. So, this is bad!
When the device is off and the battery is full, it is possible to charge the internal device to approximately half full, so this is bad!
ut, worse is to come: My device dropped by accident and, because of this heavy load together with missing protection for the glass (device does NOT protect the face of the device!) the gorilla glass broke to several pieces.
So, unless this is a completely different type (which I doubt!), you better NOT try this one!

What puzzles me is how you supposed to connect it. The case has a built in battery with two pins sticking out in the back. Then you have 2 sets of conductive wires to run from the battery to the phone? Where do you connect it on the phone, wireless charging pins or something? If you have Verizon phone, those not even available on the back, etc.

It looks like something you have to put inside, between battery and connectors.
The end will stick out of the phone. I think it has some glue so it will stick somehow on the case.
After that's connected, you can put the phone onto the external battery and the metal tips of the external battery will fit 'nicely' the glued metal stuff.
My One X already had those connectors for connecting to car etc.
I sure would not like this adaptation of my phone...
Hey fellow XDA'ers
I have seen a few people suggesting the possibility of swapping the LG G2 battery into the Nexus 5, which reminds me of the Atrix HD. You could swap the 1780 battery out of the Atrix HD and throw in the 3300mah battery from the Razr MAXX, almost doubling the battery life. The batteries were almost the same size except for an increased thickness.
Naturally I also dreamed of putting a beefier battery into my (soon to be arriving) Nexus 5, however I come to you now to destroy those dreams.
I pulled up some old FCC battery pictures of the LG G2 battery, model BL-T7, and the Nexus 5 battery, the BL-T9.
As you can see in the attached pictures, there are 2 major issues that will prevent a battery swap from happening:
LG G2 BL-T7
55mm wide
67mm long
Nexus 5 BL-T9
57mm wide
60mm long
The LG G2s battery is 2 millimeters thinner, however it is also 7 millimeters wider. This is a rather large difference, and looking at photo 3, there is no way in hell you are going to get another 7mm of height.
Secondly, the placement of the cable where the battery attaches to the phone is very offset. You would need some sort of extender in order to get the connector to reach, would would be another chore in itself.

It really is too bad... because it looked like the N5 has a few mm of thickness to spare.

I appreciate you posting this. This will be my first phone in years that doesn't have a removable battery and I'm really worried I won't be able to keep the phone long for that reason. I was wondering if there were any options to improve the battery (physically) and you eliminated one possibility.

This is going to be my first phone without a removable battery also. I think I can get by with something like down below.
I plan on getting one of these.

So were the batteries in my other example and it worked. They kept the battery width and length the same but increased the thickness.
You can still remove a non-removable battery. It just isn't easy enough for the average user to do. I made this post to address the modding community that likes to do hacks such as this.

I have a similar model of the second battery you posted that I use a lot when traveling. Prior to my extended battery on my S3 I used it somewhat regularly. Last forever so nice to keep in my car or bag. Probably be using this more frequently now. Coming from a 4500 mah battery to 2300 its gonna suck having to think about battery again.
A physical hack to mitigate the lack of mah caught my eye

I like that idea, but the biggest problem seems to be actually finding battery size specifications, and finding a connector that would fit (or a way to adapt an existing one).
Not really worth the effort right now when most of us do not even have the device yet.
Just for kicks I was looking at existing 3.7/3.8 volt lithium polymer batteries, and most of them are much bigger than the Nexus 5 battery, while having a much smaller capacity. I am not sure if this has to do with battery thickness or just an advancement in energy density.
Check this site out : http://www.houseofbatteries.com/custom-batteries-custom-lithium-polymer-c-1_67-l-en.html?sort=4a&page=1&language=en

What about a zero lemon style battery? The bottom battery could be the exact same dimensions as stock, then the tip half could be long and skinny. Assuming that there is any space at all between the back plate and the oem battery.

The back case has a lot going on with it so I doubt you could fit anything in there, or it would be too much of a hassle to make a new back case.

Such a large design change would be bad.

Even if it could fit, this would almost definitely adversely affect the device in one or many ways. It could affect RF properties, heat dissipation, even the way basic components/chips function. Everything is designed to work specifically for the way the phone is laid out, such a big design change would not be advised. The idea is cool. Granted, it appears to work with other devices... So idk.
The only possibility I see is if an aftermarket company makes a replacement battery for the Nexus 5 with the same dimensions but somehow able to increase the mAh capacity in the near future as battery technology improves. Even getting a 25-50% increase in capacity would be plenty.

Actually the new modification just requires you cut an aluminum cross bar and swap the battery cable. To make it fit the plastic shield also needs a little cut but it works properly compared to the old one which either broke features or cut the speaker.
Feel free to try it. I put a new standard one in last week and was looking at the phone out of the case for the first time in a year thinking I'd love the phone twice as thick with the extra space all battery. Phones don't need to be so darn thin at the cost of usability
