[Q] I may have hard bricked my droid 4 - Motorola Droid 4

hello all am am pretty new to this so sorry if there is a thread for this some where else but I havent seen one. Ok here is the story I was wiping my Motorola droid 4 to reset it factory setting while this was happening I my micro USB cable came out and my phone powered off i was in fastboot mode. now when i power the device on it does nothing, no backlight, no boot screen, nothing. would a factory cable help me? how can i just get jellybean back on it? is there a way to get back to the fast boot menu? yes I have tried pwr + vol up and down. no dice. is it time for a new phone or do i still have life in my droid 4? is it hard bricked or is there hope for me yet? thanks for any answers given in advance.
I guess is there any hope for my phone or is it done?

Did you ever get this problem fixed? I did just about the same thing the other night. I bought a factory adapter, but it hasn't seemed to help.

I am in the same boat. Did you ever get this resolved? No matter what I try I can't get my phone to boot. No motorola logo or anything. I can plug it into my computer and the LED turns green and stays green, but the computer never recognizes it is plugged in. If I plug it in to the wall charger I don't get the LED light at all. I really want to get this fixed.
If anyone has any advice please advise.

[Q] Is my Captivate completely toast?

I've been reading forums all day long looking for answers but I can't seem to find a solution, so my apologies if someone has a solution in a thread that I missed but I couldn't find anything.
I have Rogers Captivate which I had applied the One Click Lag Fix that worked great. I then decided to flash a custom rom with Odin. In the middle of the flash, my pc lost power (battery ran out, forgot to plug it into the wall) and the bar on my Captivate showing the progress stopped. After I turned the computer back on, I turned off my phone (since it was stuck an I thought it was a good idea) and tried to turn it on with no success.
As far as I can tell, it's COMPLETELY dead.
Here's everything I've tried:
- ALL (and I mean ALL) button combinations
- There's no power bar, absolutely nothing showing
- I've taken sim and battery out and tried connecting to the pc, no luck
- I've tried letting it charge although the screen is dead (meaning black) and the soft keys don't light up so I have no idea if it's charging
- When I plug the phone into my pc, it doesn't even detect it
- Can't get ANYTHING to show up on the screen. I hold power, it doesn't turn on. I hold Vol up and down and nothing.
I don't know if there's anything on the board I can do to reset or something. Is my phone completely toast? If so, I'll have to resort to getting a replacement through the 1 year manufacturer's warranty which sucks, but oh well.
Thank you all for any assistance you can provide. I would hate to go back to my iPhone 4 ((

Did you try pulling battery, then holding Vol+ and Vol- and plugging in USB?
Have you tried a USB jig?
I had to disconnect my phone mid-Odin a few times before. I was able to use a JIG to get back into Download Mode and restore it to a working state. Might wanna try that!

I think this guy's phone really is toast though - no activity, nadda?
The only other thing I can think of - is make sure the USB cable is plugged directly into your computer's motherboard USB Ports.
Then try the above - pull out sime batt etc... plug in the USB with the battery out - then jam the battery back in while holding down the volume buttons.
If this doesn't work or the Jig.. Warranty Time with AT&T (Happy Times )
I would say the jig is worth a shot, I have seen several people say they came back from a black screen with the jig.
If you are just getting a black screen when you try to turn it on then the phone is most likely done. I know it's too late but it is extremely important that when flashing your phone that there is no chance of loosing power to your compuer.
I would still suggest to try the JIG option if you haven't already. Each bricked phone acts differently. My first phone I was able to get into download mode with the JIG but even after flashing it 3 times it still would be stuck on the AT&T logo loop. Likely because of a hardware related issue. I would check with your carrier and see what you options are after trying to use a JIG. Or you can call Samung and they might be able to repair the phone for a couple hundred. Which is still cheaper then paying $400 for a new one.
I had a similar issue where I got a purple screen flashin stock with odin...and then phone acted ''dead'' no response on any end...what I did was take take sim out and battery and did the volume down and power while putting in batter after every attempt with all other button attempts and putting usb in
About ten seconds the time it takes the art screen in my case to flash and after about fifty attempts it went into d.l mode
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I897 using XDA App
Mine got stuck in the white ATT logo loop once, and it just took many, many tries to get ODIN to recognize, but it eventually came around, and has been great ever since. If it is really bricked, you have nothing to lose, so you might as well go hardcore.
Same thing happen to me yesterday! And the jigg saved my phone. Thank you jigg

HELP, My phone refuses to boot up.

It started as soon as I received a phone call from my brother and we were in the middle of a conversation when the phone suddenly goes off. I tried to restart it, I even removed the battery and replaced it but when I press the power button I get the initial boot sequence showing the htc logo and then the phone would just go of. I thought that maybe the battery is low but when I plug it to a power outlet it keeps trying to boot but keeps switching off and it just does this over and over.
Please I don't know if anyone has encountered this problem before, I really don't know what to do.

Try a Hard Reset using the device buttons:
1. With the phone off. If it’s frozen or unresponsive, pull then replace the battery.
2. Press and hold the Volume Up and Volume Down buttons and power the phone back on.
3. Continue to hold Volume Up and Volume Down until a factory reset screen appears.
Hope this helps!

Well I just did that but the problem persist. I should note that occasionally it does complete its boot up and I can use the phone but it can go off at any time and once it does this, i cannot get it to completely boot up. Once it attempts a boot up and goes off I cannot even restart it by pressing the power button until I replace the battery or plug it into a power socket or the computer at which point it will just keep booting up and shutting down.

Hi, I have got the same problem on my HD7 and I am completely noob to many new words Goldcard, jailbroken, etc. Would you please advise me exactly what you did (i mean flahing procedure) and really appriciate any help.
Well if you have got an O2 HD7, then I would advise you to get one of the O2 ROMS from ansar, download it then press and hold the volume down button when booting up your device, connect the phone to your pc and start the app. More instructions in the HD7 development thread.
There's nothing wrong the phone. Don't hard reset or flash it. It happens from time to time, just give it some time and eventually you will see a battery icon appear. Then after awhile it will boot up.
Again, do not flash or hard reset just be patient. I believe it just needs to drain all the way down as it doesn't have enough power to fully boot.
Not booting up

HTC One Not Charging :(

I don't know what to do now, I'm feeling depressed just by thinking about my problem. Okay, so just to give ya the backstory (nothing big), my phone's battery died when going home to the gym (automatically shut down), didn't think much about it. I got home, after awhile, I plugged in my HTC One into the charger and it wouldn't charge at all!!! :crying: Never happened to me before, I'm running on the latest TWRP, and on the Google Edition rom. Now on to what I did next.
I tried just leaving it on there for a few hours, NOT A PEEP, no LED light, nada just completely dead. Then I plugged it into the laptop USB port, it doesn't recognizes the device but it did install a driver too (forgot what it was called though). And the computer does indeed recognizes the device's existence cuz I hear the computer make that sound when you hook it up to the computer. Also in the the Devices and Printers on Windows 7, it either says Unknown Device or USB Input Device depending on what USB port I hook it up to. And after a few hours charging from the PC, the LED light did come back but only the low battery is dead pulsing (dunno what else to call it lol, its not the solid LED light). And it only does it for a few minutes, goes away then repeats. So does that mean there is some glimmer of hope? I've tried holding the Power button for a minute or 2, nothing. Power button + Vol Up? Nope. Power button + Vol Down? Nope. Do all of those while the LED light is pulsing? Nope. When its completely black? Nope.
So what can I do?! I can't claim warranty because I bought this off Craigslist (plus I'm rooted, so that would be moot anyways), can someone help this depressed as heck man? Its like I'm watching my best friend die slowly. :crying: lol. Sorry if it was a long read, just wanted to put everything in OP, would appreciate the help!

Thank you for responding. Yeah, I tried those 2 steps, so far no good. I'm just very confused because when I charge the One by my PC, the LED orange light just blinks for awhile then goes away, then the cycle continues, does that mean the battery isn't 100% completely dead? god I'm so confused and sad at the same time lol.
This seems to be happening with TWRP 2.7.x. If you can possibly flash a different recovery you may resurrect your phone...

How can I flash anything when the phone wont wake up? ugh, the only hope I'm getting is that the LED is blinking from time to time, meaning there's at least something going on.
Anyone else?
Anyone? I guess theres nothing else to do huh?
*If* twrp 2.7.0.0 caused your issue (which is hard to say since we don't know which recovery you are using) then somehow you have to overwrite the recovery in fastboot.
The phone needs to be able to boot into HBOOT and then go into fastboot. the battery will have to have enough charge for the recovery flash to succeed.
i honestly don't know the next step for your case, maybe someone else can help.

Switched to Dalvik from ART on Moto G 2014 and now phone will not power on.

Got a Moto G 2014 from WIND Mobile last week. Allowed updates to go through, finished at 4.4.4. Switched to ART assuming it would improve performance. It did not, and I had an issue where every time I boot up it would optimize every app. This made bootup take about 10 minutes. I decided to troubleshoot I would switch back to Dalvik. Began switch to Dalvik with 80% remaining battery. During the runtime switch, it booted up fine. I decided to power it off and then back on again and watch the bootup process as a test just to make sure everything was now fine.
Now, it doesn't respond when I try to power it on. No backlight, nothing on screen, no vibrate, nothing. Holding power and volume down does nothing. Holding power for 120 seconds (something I read online) does nothing.
I would appreciate any help I can get with this from anyone who has faced this issue.

Yeah that's my next step. Doesn't give me a lot of confidence in this phone. I think anyone planning on trying ART before the Android 5.0 update should beware. Make sure they've backed up their important data and are able to return their phone for replacement, because what triggered this bricking for me was switching back from ART to Dalvik. I made no changes to the bootloader, ROM, etc. This was completely stock.
Thanks for replying!

I believe you're gonna have to re-flash your device. Are you able to enter the boot loader? if yes, then re-flash the device with Stock firmware using ADB. Search the forums for instructions or reply and I'll post them myself. Do post your Device Model also.

Sorry about the confusion, that does make sense. By accessing the boot loader, are you referring to the menu you reach when you hold power and volume down as you power on the phone? If not, what do you mean by accessing the boot loader?

Okay. So I have no access to that at all. Power and volume down doesn't do anything. Windows seems to recognize it somehow, I hear the device-plugged-in sound, but the device manager doesn't seem to show it listed. I'm guessing I don't have any options left for fixing this, so I'm going to bring it back and see if I can get it replaced on the spot or begin an RMA process.

For anyone interested in some followup, I went to WIND to see if it could be replaced. They refused to replace it, because there were a few scuff marks around the edge from when I dropped it the night I got it. I went home and called Motorola tech support to look into an RMA. They had me go through the troubleshooting steps. This involved me plugging it back into the charger (now it's been unplugged from my charger all day because I brought it with me for returning). Looks like leaving it unplugged for a while to let the battery discharge did the trick. This time, when I plugged it into the charger, the white LED came on, and I got the white screen with the battery indicator. It was fine.
Here's hoping I don't run into that again.

[Q] Unlocking bootloader hard bricked my moto x

So....
I think I hard bricked my 1st gen moto x. I was in the process of unlocking the bootloader using motorolla's guide and everything was going fine. i had the "unlock..." (or "unlocked..." i forget what it actually said) showing on my screen and just out of habit, i hit the power button as i put the phone down.
now, nothing.
nothing at all. no recovery mode, no nothing. does anyone have any suggestions? i've tried holding down power and vol down for 5 min. i've tried pushing random buttons. i've tried praying to the motorolla gods.

This sounds like a hardware failure, maybe a battery failure or a charging port failure. Like someone else suggested, try a different charger and see what happens.
Is it still under warranty?

Depends on the state - in many states in the US, a manufacturer cannot void a warranty if the product failure/defect has nothing to do with why the manufacturer wants to void the warranty.
Since unlocking a bootloader has nothing to do with a battery failure, in those states where the law is as I stated above, Motorola cannot void the warranty. Now the average Joe may not know this and may not know how to sue Motorola if they won't honor the warranty, but if you do know this and do know how to file a small claims case against Motorola, then you would win in those states.
So it is not across the board true that you void your warranty if you unlock your bootloader and don't have a dev ed. It depends on the state and what is wrong with your phone.

Good point. I have the old gnex. I just always used fastboot. Never read about anyone using Odin the whole time I used it. Always learn something new!
Same thing just happened to me. It was displaying blue "unlock..." then just froze. Absolutely nothing, just a black screen. Can't get into any bootloader or recovery. I really hope this phone is not totally screwed now. Any of you guys have any luck?
