My wife bought an international version of the HTC One, and I'm unable to get the LTE to work. The most it will do is bounce between 3G and H+ on AT&T's network. I've been to the AT&T store to have a new sim card put in it, and that actually knocked the phone down to 2G speed or less, and I've only just managed to get the H+ to come back.
The phone model is 801n and shows to have LTE as an option.
LTE is available in my area and at great strength on my OneX+.
Let me know if there's any other info you may need to know.
Go to phone, enter *#*#4636#*#*
Go to phone options, and there is a dropdown menu. The option you want is "GSM/WCDMA/LTE (auto)"
If that option isn't available, you may need to do some work converting it to a US version (like the Developer Edition, or Google Play edition).
Out of curiosity, go to settings>about and post what your software number is.
You can also log into your AT&T account and look at the data plan you're on. It should say LTE. If not, they haven't properly provisioned it.

Software version is still 4.2.2 and Sense 5.0.... she bought the phone off someone who moved to the US from the UK, and we haven't checked for an OTA software update yet... mainly because my wife finds it impossible to charge the phone and it's completely drained at the moment.
I guess the simplest answer was the right one... Even though I told them repeatedly while in the AT&T store to activate LTE data on the line, checking my account online show's they did not. I suppose I'll call and sit on hold for a few hours tomorrow to get things straightened out.
Hopefully it will work fine by tomorrow evening.
After spending 2 and a half hours on the phone with AT&T account and tech support, the problem seems to be that their system will not recognize the phone as being capable of connecting to their network.... that is to say, based off the IMEI number, their system doesn't even seem to recognize what the phone even is, nor whether or not it is capable of more than 3G or HSDPA speeds.
The tech support guy tried to force the LTE on to the data plan, and he said their system wouldn't put the LTE on the plan because the phone wasn't compatible.... since the system goes off the IMEI number, he didn't think converting to an AT&T or other versions would help, because their system still wouldn't add on the LTE access...... since I assume the IMEI doesn't change with the rom, correct?
I guess it's no wonder the guy was selling the phone so cheap.
On the bright side, the OTA updates came across tonight. Jelly-Bean and Sense 5.5 are alive and kicking.
If anyone has any other ideas, I'm still looking for solutions.
I struggle to believe in all that time nobody figured out your phone is incompatible with the network.
The AT&T version of the phone exists to connect to the AT&T network, which is not the same as what the international version supports.

The hardware for the international version and the AT&T version appear to be the same.. according the phone specifications, it should be able to connect.
As far as the length of time I was on the phone with them, I went through one account specialist and one tech support specialist.. both kept wanting to try something else. And then there were a few software updates during that time period, and numerous "try rebooting the phone again" and "let me put you on hold for a few minutes."
Frequencies for each market are different. They don't want to include all frequencies because the CPU vendor qualcomm charges per frequency. There in no point to include frequencies that are not going to be used by most people of each market.

Where are you checking the specs?
AT&T network supports 1700MHz AWS and perhaps 700MHz.
International One (EMEA) is 800, 1800, 2600MHz.
Do you have another AT&T LTE phone or a friend with one? If so, swap the SIM, activate an LTE data plan on the line, verify working, then put the SIM back in the One and see if the change sticks.
That's what I would try anyway. Also, when you enter *#*#4636#*#* on the phone and go to phone info, what option is set under "Set preferred network type"?
Another thing to check is your APN settings. For that, go to settings>mobile data. The Network mode should be set to "GSM / WCDMA / LTE auto" in there. Next, click on "Access point names". Hit the menu button, and select "New APN". Here's the settings to enter:

The big difference between the Dev and AT&T versions are having the AT&T sh*tware pre-installed or not.
As posted earlier, the hardware inside is the same.

A quick google search for HTC One 801n brings up many sites with the specs. I'm too new a member to post any links, apparently.
Here are the frequencies the phone is capable of though.

Wife and her phone are out of town until tomorrow.... if I can pry it from her hands when she gets back, I'll slide my sim card in and see if anything happens. Otherwise, I'll check the settings you posted and see if anything needs to be changed and if that has an affect on service.

It can't really be said what frequencies the 801n supports, because there are multiple versions of 801n. What's the MID we're talking about?

I would say that it is imminent that the US version of the S730 will be released soon. AT&T or T-Mobile may pick it up (T-Mobile's 3G network in NYC just went live, but there are no phones). If so, I would suspect that some of these crafty folks (like Alcaline) would be able to extract the radio ROM, and make it available for the S730 that we all have (the european version).
But, here's the most important part... It all depends on whether or not the European version of the S730 has the radio chipsets that will support 3G on the frequencies that are 3G in the US. There is no known answer "available" to this, so it can only be discovered by testing.
The current S730 uses the 2100 band for 3G speeds and ATT is deploying 3g on 1900 and 850 I believe and they sell a decent ammount of 3g phones. T-Mobile is working on setting one up on the 1700/2100 band but I dont care for T-Mobile.
I have watched my phone at times flip into 3G mode for a few minutes then revert back to Edge, its trying but cant work properly without the right frequencies.
Check out the chipset datasheet. Bottom of page three explains the specific radio chipset combos and their support for different freqs.
I suppose, to save on manufacturing costs, they could have used the single chipset that supports 3G on all freqs (RTR 6285), but I believe this is unlikely due to the difference in model number that was submitted to the FCC (European version: WING220, US version: WING200).
Who knows though.

Hermes models had different model #'s HERM100, HERM200 and had the same radios, in some cases minor difference such as case style, i.e removal of video calling camera etc. With any luck we have the RFR6500 + RTR6275 Combo, or as you mentioned the RTR6285 and just not a radio rom that allows 1900+850 3G. I was looking on the FCC site and they have some interesting screen shots, one of which shows one(s730) with what appears to be the front camera covered up and another which shows a radio rom(R 0.27.03.05B), one that, to do the tests would likely need to support 1900+850. Check Page 250 / 11 in the PDF. However, also in the test is the lack of any mention of 2100 Mhz test, which would suggest that either the US 3G Radio won't support 2100Mhz or that it indeed has different hardware that won't support 2100Mhz. At any rate it would be interesting to know if anyone has tried to flash one of the pre-prod roms for the wing 200 onto the wing220 and see if they are able to connect up to 1900+850 3G.

I was searching some of the other posts, and it appears that most of the pre-prod radio rom testing had been focused on GPS functionality. Has anyone been able to throw on any of the pre-prod radios with an ATT SIM and tested to see if it can connect to WCDMA -> US Band (1900+850) ??

But just to get this clear, because I have changed my Radio more often then most people change their underweare.
Is everybody able to select WCDMA and then US Band in the settings?
I dont know if this is selectable on all devices or if this is made available after my radio flahings.
I believe all S730's have the following options available.

For it to actually be able to operate on all of these frequencies I believe it would need to use the the RTR6285 chipset as the other 2 combos would not support all of the different frequencies combinations.
US Band -> GSM 850+1900 / UMTS 850+1900 (ATT)
Euro Band -> GSM 900+1800 / UMTS 2100
Japan Band -> UMTS 2100+800 (not positive on this one)
If I change band to from Auto -> WCDMA I do not get an error but no 3G Icon and all calls fail. If I then go and change to US Band while having WCDMA selected it indicates that it cannot change to that GSM/UMTS Band. Also interesting, If I stay on WCDMA and select Euro Band, no error, but of course all calls fail. I then tried to change to Japan Band, no error and no phone calls. Finally I am still on WCDMA and I switch to US Band and I get the error that indicates I cannot change to that band. So, I would be interested to know Alcaline if you see the same behavior on some of the other radios you have been trying to see they allow the switch to WCDMA / US Band combo.

I have the ability to tell my phone I am in the states, but it does nothing (default settings though)
Was the US version (WING200) of this phone ever released? Or has anyone gotten the EU version to work on any US 3G networks? Wondering about T-Mobile...
Alright, this is the deal, I bought a Motorola XT701 from Amazon, international unlocked version which is supposed to work with HSDPA 850 MHz 3G radio, which is the one that Kolbi ICE (Costa Rican carrier) uses for their GSM 3G data same as AT&T, however, the phone doesn't seem to be recognizing the 3G network, it just displaying the "E" for EDGE at the top, I have seeing the G (GPRS) a couple of times, but I have never been able to get the 3G network to be recognized, this is what I have done:
* Went to Kolbi and activated the 3G data for my phone, confirmed they support this phone.
* After noticing that my phone was not connecting to the 3G network, I took out my SIM and stick it in a iphone 3G and worked like a charm it was super fast on the 3G network, I put it back in my phone and just connects to the EDGE network.
* Entered in the phone *#*#4636#*#*/ phone information and it says that: GPRS service: Connected, Network type: EDGE
* For the option to Set preferred network type: GSM auto (PRL) is the only option that seems to work right
* When I press the menu button under "phone information" screen I get one option that says "Select radio band" when I select this option I get a window poping up saying "Set GSM/UMTS band, I get many different options but the "Automatic" option is the only one that lets me select, all the other options (including USA Band) I get set [xxx Band] Unsuccessful
* I made sure that the option for "Use only 2G networks" is NOT checked
* Made sure APN settings are the right ones (Name: ice3g, APN: kolbi3g, MCC: 712 (preset), MNC: 01 (preset))
My phone is currently running 2.1 eclair and is rooted.
I DO NOT WHAT ELSE can it be done, if I take my SIM card and put it in another 3G phone works just fine that tells me that the problem is not with my provider, so I have the following questions:
How can I check which band is my phone using for data?
Is there a way to make my phone use the 850 MHz data 3G instead of others?
PLEASE HELP, I love the phone but I want to use the 3G data, if not possible I will have to get an iphone (not my first option).

The only thing I can think of if your phone is indeed not a 1700/2100 mhz model is to google "APN settings" for your particular provider. I know even unlocking my fathers Motorola Milestone (locked on Telus in Canada), my Rogers sim could not connect to 3G until I went into Mobile Networks->Access Point Names and manually wrote in the APN settings.

Thanks for the reply, I triple check the APN settings with my provider and they are pretty basic just: Name: ice3g, APN: kolbi3g, MCC: 712 (preset), MNC: 01 (preset), nothing else.....but I have an update, today for some reason the phone displayed the "H" for HSPA for about 10 min and the phone worked great for those 10 min, then.... it went back to the "E"...no idea of what is going on here.... I did not change any settings... just happened... could it be software related?

I have a huawei ideos (older non X6 version) and supposedly it is unlocked. It works with 2g/edge. It does not work with 3g. I have looked for APN information and the info downloaded to the phone when I connected to network is identical to what is listed on the net.

i had to add the MMSC setting since it was not there as listed in step 12.
Things which are odd. When choosing access network, it does not say T-mobile 3G. It only says T-mobile 2g, Att 2g and Att 3g. According to the net this phone supports the frequencies for tmobile.

I did the trick where you enter #*#*4636*#*#* and checked phone settings. I changed to GSM auto (PRL). I also tried to hit menu and select radio band, but it pulls up an empty "Set GSM/UMTS Band" dialog. There is nothing to select.
I guess my question is, does this phone support 3G for t-mobile and if so, what setting am I missing?

So I'm writing this guide for SGH-I537 (ATT Samsung Galaxy S4 Active) users who want to use their I537 on T-Mobile or other carriers that support AWS (Advanced Wireless Services; see: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Advanced_Wireless_Services).
Initially I got my I537 and heard conflicting reports of DIY SIM unlocking being successful, supposedly some people unable to get the AWS bands. So, I played it safe and got the device unlock code straight from ATT. Everything seemed to work at a cursory glance, got LTE and fast speeds, great! Little did I know that I actually did not have AWS unlocked.
In my room I get nearly no reception and rely on a repeater to get signal and be able to do basic things like SMS, make calls, etc. I noticed that for some reason the I537 was not picking it up.
ATT runs their LTE over some TMO HSPA frequencies (AWS) and the phone by default won't do HSPA on those frequencies. An AWS unlock will allow the phone to do either LTE or HSPA on these frequencies, thus allowing it to talk to my repeater.
I followed the guide at http://galaxys4root.com/galaxy-s4-t...aws-bands-on-att-galaxy-s4-sgh-i337sgh-i337m/ but instead used the UMMS code of *#0808#
It works on the latest stock, unrooted ROM. My device was already SIM unlocked but I don't think that will make a difference for this process. I believe that one would require SIM unlock regardless, though, to use another network.
This guide unfortunately depends on Windows specific tools, so I had to use a Windows machine to do this. It's a pretty easy guide -- basically you tell the phone to expose its modem over USB, use a Qualcomm program to talk to it, do a backup of the NVRAM, and NV Restore someone's I337 NVRAM that has the AWS enabled.
It works perfectly for me and has worked for others as well (see comments on that guide). The only difference is we have to dial *#0808#

Which step did it fail at? Can you walk me through what you did?
EDIT: Did you go to Device Manager, and see the two Samsung COM ports? Then in the QPST tool, did you add those ports manually? Otherwise QPST wil always say "No phone"

Very strange. I wish I knew the ansewr to this I stumbled upon the AWS unlock guide for I337 long time before I bought the I537. I guess I was lucky that it went without a hiccup then.
And you have the special Samsung drivers installed from that site and are sure some other drivers aren't trying to pick it p? =|
I would like to add that you should change the apn name to fast.tmobile.com (from epc.tmobile.com) that's how enabled 4g LTE in my city.
I would like to ask a 'stupid' question is there a way to enable 3g? It seems to be either edge or 4g/4gLTE for me, I've never seen my phone have a 3g icon.
For T-Mobile it's not going to show 3G afaik, it will default to showing 4G for any 3G or HSPA 4G mode. If you have LTE enabled (any of the LTE modes) then it'll show the 4G with "LTE" under the bottom right side. I leave my GS4A on T-Mobile with WCDMA Preferred which seems to offer the best speeds and connections. While T-Mobile is still working on their system here in Vegas and making improvements, the LTE aspect is of no use to me and just allows me to burn up my 5GB that much faster.
To change the modes you'll have to go into the *#*#4636#*#* menu and do it, again afaik. It's the least hassle free method I've found for myself so that's what I stick with.
And I've never changed the APN from epc to fast - it's worked since I did those same instructions to enable the AWS capability. I did change it one time but the speed tests ended up being effectively the same no matter which APN I used so I set it back to the default of epc.tmobile.com and have yet to have any issues.

We have LTE in San Jose and San Francisco and it's REALLY fast and way better than the HSPA+ network. And it seems to switch to HSPA+ just fine if there's no LTE.
Added TMO LTE APN settings.
while the process went without a hitch for me, I did not see any improvements
I was getting 4G both before and after, no LTE
in fact, the speed went down fron 2.5MBPS to less 1MBPS !!
So i flashed the AT&T backup back!

HSPA isn't LTE, you have to enable that aspect manually. By default when you put a T-Mobile SIM in the GS4A it'll set itself up for GSM/CMDA usage, and you have to alter that to get the LTE working, at least I did in my case.
I went into the service menu using *#*#4636#*#* and changed it from GSM/CDMA auto (PRL) to LTE/GSM auto (PRL) and you should reconnect and get the proper 4G/LTE symbol noting the type of connection (4 with smaller G above the letters LTE).
Here in Las Vegas that's all I have to do to enable LTE (it'll show as LTE:14). I don't use it because the actual LTE signal strength is like -105 dB here at home; when I switch it over to WCDMA Preferred it increases to -78 dB and the speeds are very fast with HSPA:10 or even HSPA:15 on occasion, and LTE drains the battery more as well (in my testing).
That's my usage and experience, maybe making some alterations with your service menu can improve performance for you. T-Mobile is still doing the upgrades across their whole network so, what might have crappy signal coverage now might improve soon.
My suggestion is try each of the potential connection methods and find the one with the best signal strength and the best speeds - for me, again, that turned out to be using WCDMA Preferred, and I'm right across the street (line of sight) with a T-Mobile leased cell site, just about 1200 feet from me with nothing in the way either when I'm here at home.
Also, I've never had to edit the APN info on my GS4A for use with T-Mobile. I know the recommendation is to alter it from epc.tmobile.com to fast.tmobile.com but since mine works just by altering the radio connection and ends up getting the same speeds (I've tested both APNs), I just stick with the default of epc.tmobile.com and I haven't had any issues worth noting. I did read some comments that said in some areas to get the LTE working properly you DO need to use fast.tmobile.com, but for me I haven't - could be something to check into for yourself.

My suggestion is try each of the potential connection methods and find the one with the best signal strength and the best speeds - for me, again, that turned out to be using WCDMA Preferred, and I'm right across the street (line of sight) with a T-Mobile leased cell site, just about 1200 feet from me with nothing in the way either when I'm here at home.
Also, I've never had to edit the APN info on my GS4A for use with T-Mobile. I know the recommendation is to alter it from epc.tmobile.com to fast.tmobile.com but since mine works just by altering the radio connection and ends up getting the same speeds (I've tested both APNs), I just stick with the default of epc.tmobile.com and I haven't had any issues worth noting. I did read some comments that said in some areas to get the LTE working properly you DO need to use fast.tmobile.com, but for me I haven't - could be something to check into for yourself.

I reflashed the tmobile file
I am still not getting LTE, but definitely getting more bars
interestingly, there was no change initially, but after 15 minutes i started getting better signal strength...

Got LTE running on the opposite corner of my building, with abysmal speeds!
the LTE coverage in Bellevue/Redmond seems to be either very spotty, or very incompatible with S4A, not sure which it is... but overall the internet speeds are better with HSPA+ than LTE in any case...

Little did I know that I actually did not have AWS unlocked.
In my room I get nearly no reception and rely on a repeater to get signal and be able to do basic things like SMS, make calls, etc. I noticed that for some reason the I537 was not picking it up.
ATT runs their LTE over some TMO HSPA frequencies (AWS) and the phone by default won't do HSPA on those frequencies. An AWS unlock will allow the phone to do either LTE or HSPA on these frequencies, thus allowing it to talk to my repeater.
I followed the guide at http://galaxys4root.com/galaxy-s4-t...aws-bands-on-att-galaxy-s4-sgh-i337sgh-i337m/ but instead used the UMMS code of *#0808#
It works on the latest stock, unrooted ROM. My device was already SIM unlocked but I don't think that will make a difference for this process. I believe that one would require SIM unlock regardless, though, to use another network.
This guide unfortunately depends on Windows specific tools, so I had to use a Windows machine to do this. It's a pretty easy guide -- basically you tell the phone to expose its modem over USB, use a Qualcomm program to talk to it, do a backup of the NVRAM, and NV Restore someone's I337 NVRAM that has the AWS enabled.
It works perfectly for me and has worked for others as well (see comments on that guide). The only difference is we have to dial *#0808#
You may want to add the T-Mobile LTE APN as well:

SIM Unlocked on T-Mobile in Orlando:
Before Samsung replaced my Active I was running MF1, this hack wouldn't work. They sent me a new replacement with MF3 Monday. This worked!! Places where I get "E" are now "4g"!!

So I've gone through all the steps and now I am at the part where I add the APN but I can't seem to find the MMS Protocol section. I've also heard we should use fast.t-mobile.com instead of the fast.tmobile.com, would that matter??

If I believe the specs, inserting a GSM sim in a CDMA unlocked moto s (developer edition) should give me the same GSM coverage as the GSM phone for voice....and for 3G data, as long as it's not on B4. I should not get any 4G LTE. But I wonder if I should really believe the specs because it almost makes no sense for motorola to have created two different chips/loads for the phones. What would happen if I put the t-mobile or ATT oem load on a CDMA unlocked phone? would it even work? would I really not get LTE since GSM LTE doesn't use 700mhz?
Any thoughts. There doesn't seem to be anyone at motorola who can answer the question...other than looking at the specs....
The reason for the question is I need Verizon in the US (for coverage), but GSM when travelling. I am thinking of getting a net10 sim for travel. Will it work?

as far as i know. the reason I know this, is because before I figured out a way to get my Moto x (standard non dev. edition) to keep my unlmited data, I checked into getting a Blu phone.. they're GSM.. So, you can't use on verizon.. I was looking into net10 and they're GSM. So I don't see why it wouldn't work, however I never went threw with it, so please don't hold it to me.
Putting an AT&T or T-Mobile SIM in the CDMA phone, you probably wouldn't get LTE, as I don't think they share any bands with VZW for LTE. You might get HSPA+ though, depending on what bands are in use around you. You shouldn't have any issues travelling though, as most other countries use the GSM bands supported by the VZW model. So, basically, your only big issue would be getting "4G" service when in the US if you aren't using VZW.

That's pretty much exactly what I want....if I use data at all, it could be 2g speed...my main concern is "in an emergency" phone calls. It looks like just using the phone for GSM calls is only a matter of getting a worldwide sim, or buying a local one which would work in any unlocked GSM capable phone. Now, if I decide to move to a US based GSM carrier, that's a different story where data is important.
I doubt that the hardware in the phones differs at all....just the enablement of the radios/bands. I would bet there is a way to turn on all the GSM bands on a CDMA phone...although it may not be accessible to customers.
I'm going to try a GSM Sim in the phone in the US and see what I can do (or not do).

The hardware is most certainly different. The parts are not installed to do CDMA in a GSM developer edition, and the parts are not installed to add additional bands with a simple firmware hack.
I have verizon for personal, and one work line, and T-Mobile USA as another work line.
When I first got my Developer Edition Moto X for Verizon, and it had 4.2.2, I could put my T-Mobile US SIM in, it received APN settings and worked, at Edge speeds.
After the Kit Kat update, putting my T-Mobile US SIM in I got message that I had an unsupported sim installed which also stayed in the notification pull down, and I had to manually enter the APN settings for T-Mobile to get working voice/data. Again I got Edge speeds. However MMS didn't work but this could have been due to incorrect APN settings.
Just now, I tried and while I got a pop up unsupported SIM message, but it didn't stay in the notification area, and I did get EDGE data, with emails coming in and apps updating from the play store. When I went under Settings - Mobile Network - Access Point names, nothing is filled in. Trying to create and save one, it doesn't appear either. After a few minutes, I got 4G LTE in the notification area. Under Settings -> About Phone -> Status. It shows LTE (without band number). While it shows ICCID (sim card number), it says Unknown under My Phone Number and Min. Data works, Speed test gives me 28Mbps down and 7Mbps up, but also received intermittent "network communication issues" during the upload tests. Dropbox auto uploads fine as I took a picture with the X and my PC notified me of a new dropbox file. While SMS send/receive and voice calls work, MMS send doesn't.
As for the network communication issues... I saw the same thing when using my VZW iPhone 5S which does support more bands than the VZW X, at least comparing Apple and Moto's web sites. I see the iPhone 5S switch between HSPA and LTE when using the T-Mobile SIM.
In my area it appears T-Mobile has re-farmed their 1900Mhz to HSPA

So you picked up t-mobile LTE with a verizon phone using the t-mobile sim??? If the bands are preset as in the specs, that can't happen
Why do you think that happpened?? Perhaps the CDMA version isn't limited to 750mhz/band 13.

Band 4 LTE is also supported on the verizon phone...I don't know if that's why the t-mobile sim picked up lte or not but LTE is 13 and 4 on the verizon variant.

Yes. With the T-Mobile SIM inserted into my VZW X, the "signal indicator" in the Status bar area showed 4GLTE, and under settings -> About Phone -> Status.. Mobile Network Type reported LTE.
It was thought that VZW had enabled LTE Band 4 with the Kit Kat update on the X, like Verizon did with a recent update to the Galaxy S4. I've seen a few posts here, and on other forums asking for confirmation, how can someone tell what LTE band their X is using, and such... but no definate answer.
T-Mobile's LTE is band 4 in some areas.

yes, it will work for talk and text but maybe not for LTE.

hey, KidJoe i got a moto x from us cellular but when i insert the sim card the cell says that the sim card is not accept and the cell doesnt get signal, i try to unlock it, but i couldn´t, if you have any solution for me please help me :crying::crying::crying::crying:
I'm running AT&T on a Verizon Developer Edition Moto X. I have good coverage (better than my old Nokia 520) and I get HSPA+ everywhere I go. I'm perfectly fine without LTE since I can still run anything and stream stuff with current speeds. A big plus is I can always switch to Verizon or other CDMAs if I want to.
