I flashed CM 10.1 and the button on the headset doesn't work as it should. When i press it, it just presses random Apollo buttons on the screen. Tried PowerAMP but its the same. Any solutions?
Update:
I installed a key test app and here is what it shows when i press the wired headset button:
Keycode: 188
KeyEvent: KeyEvent {action=ACTION_DOWN, keyCode=KEYCODE_BUTTON_1, scanCode=256, metaState=0, flags=0x8, repeatCount=0, eventTime=12043406, downTime=12043406, deviceid=6, source=0x501}
Dunno if it helps. Please help, it's the only thing thats making me return to stock And i don't wanna return to stock
Nvm I fixed it myself:
Open up /system/usr/keylayout/Generic.kl
Find key 226 and 256. 226 is HEADSETHOOK and 256 is BUTTON_1
Just swap them Make 226 BUTTON_1 and 256 HEADSETHOOK.
Reboot phone and you're done.
Jeez....a man has to do everything himself around here....
Well XDA is a developers place. It is normal that you try to fix problems yourself It is also the best way to learn anything

So all my physical keys on my xperia x1 including the Volume button, the ok button, the X panel button, the pick up call button, the end call button, the two silver buttons all don't work. None of the keys on my keyboard work either.
I've been trying to hard reset but every method I've found includes holding down the volume button (which doesnt work since that button is unresponsive). I've tried the 2 silver button method along with the poking the stylus in the hard reset hole in the back of the phone but that doesnt work either since the silver buttons are unresponsive.
So now I'm looking for the Clear_Storage thing I've been reading about but I can't find it so could someone please supply me with the directory I could find it in or any other solution you can think of to help me hard reset my phone so I can flash a new ROM.
BTW I've used Hard-SPL to flash roms before, it's just this last ROM from itje got all screwy and made the buttons stop working.
Thanks, Nik
Setting > System > Clear Storage.
Sometimes Itje takes it out of his ROMs, though. You can try reflashing by pc method if it's not there.
Yea I've checked and it's not in there, how would you do it by pc?
Is it that ruu executable that you run while it's synced? For some reason
that never actually worked with my comp which is why I always resorted to the SD Card Flash method, but I can't get into the Hard-SPL loader now cause of the button problem.
Does anyone know how to hard-reset without having to use the hardware buttons, because I really need to be able to use my phone again.
Need Help =/
Next to malfunctioning buttons, is the phone starting up?
What happens, if you plug a USB cable in? If you can select ActiveSync mode, then you could easily try to re-flash another ROM image - maybe the one you have been using was corruptly downloaded or something.
Or, if you get too much of strange behaviour like this, try a stock ROM first, then another custom ROM.
It boots up and works fine as long as I stick to using the touch screen and I can USB ActiveSync it too. I know some of the older ROMs used to have an exe you could run while in ActiveSync and it would auto install but most of the new ROMs assume you're using the SD Card Method so I can't find the PC Installer app.
Alright so I managed to isntall a new version of that Firestorm Rom (3.8 I think) and my hardware buttons still don't work.
Like from the buttons that Works:
Power Button
Camera Button
Optical Joypad (only the center square)
Stuff that doesn't work:
X-Panel Button
Ok Button
Volume Button (up, down, center)
Pick up Call
Hang Up Call
Two Silver Buttons (left and right)
Left and Ride on "D-Pad"
ALL KEYBOARD KEYS
What is their left to do if a new ROM doesn't fix the problem?
what are my options for getting this fixed?
my volume keys dont work, dont know why but sometimes theyre working and sometimes not.
i have the same issue. but my g-letter button works. and all other buttons make the volume go up one notch and then down again. further more when i go into settings and the menu that controls what the buttons it only says it has a left and a right button.
have u been able to figure something out??
began working again
after a month it suddenly started to work again! dont know why or how
is a hardware problem, with your flex.
i can tell you this is hardware problem.flash your phone with orginal spl and orginal rom and send sony ericson.i had same problem.they gave me new unit after 3 months fight good luck.
no doubt, it's hardware problem..
Agree with human75, flash your x1 with stockSPL n original ROM before u send it to SE. Do it via your PC.. Goodluck bro
Hi guys, I'm out of warranty with my Captivate and the power button is not responding as expected from time to time. Sometimes it doesn't respond at all or it just takes a couple of seconds to show the power menu (reboot, restart, etc.) when I just pressed it once to lock it, from the behavior is clear that it's a hardware issue (I have also flashed different roms and had the same results, just in case). I want to change the behavior of one of the other buttons, probably volume down (the least preferable) or the search touch button (it sucks but one of them has to go and this is the one I could more easily do without).
Looking on the net I found this for the Motorola Droid but the files are kind of different for the Captivate. The location is the same: /system/usr/keylayout/ but the file sholes-keypad.kl is not there, there are others but the SEARCH functionality appears on several of the files and I don't know exactly which one to change. What do you guys think?
PS: If this should go under development please let me know.
It seems I'm answering my own post but apparently using the search touch button would not work to unlock the phone since those keys are disable while the phone is idle (is there a way to circumvent that?). I had to go with the volume down button what I did was this: using root explorer (and mounting as r/w) I went to the location I described earlier (/system/usr/keylayout/) and edited the file s3c-keypad.kl which has this structure:
key 42 VOLUME_UP WAKE
key 58 VOLUME_DOWN WAKE
key 50 HOME WAKE_DROPPED
key 26 POWER WAKE_DROPPED
key 34 BACK WAKE_DROPPED
key 57 DPAD_LEFT WAKE_DROPPED
key 49 DPAD_RIGHT WAKE_DROPPED
key 25 DPAD_UP WAKE_DROPPED
key 41 DPAD_DOWN WAKE_DROPPED
key 33 DPAD_CENTER WAKE_DROPPED
key 10 UNKNOWN WAKE_DROPPED
Click to collapse
And modified the second line to look like this:
key 58 POWER WAKE_DROPPED
Click to collapse
Please notice that I simply copied the key name and wake function of the POWER line but the key number was left intact! You can't change the key number!! I hope this helps anyone on a similar situation.
I tried changing the key information using ES File Explorer and I get an error. It only states an error has occurred and cannot be saved. I am using a cappy I bought on ebay and want to assign the power key to the volume up key as the power button does not work. I didn't use root explorer as I want to try a free app. Any ideas?
You have to mount the location for reading and writing (rw). You could also use adb to do it but I'm not well versed on how to do it that way. Can't be dificult tho.
There is an experimental root explorer that can be activated. Turned it on, mounted, and rebooted. Fixed. Thanks!

Although I haven't gotten around to experimental flashing I have messed around a bit with the modified power button. Works fine, but after some time has passed the new button (volume up) does not wake the phone. Has anyone else had this issue?

I have searched this forum extensively for an answer to this and haven't been able to find anything, so here goes. I flashed CM9 onto my NC a while back and it seemed to be working okay, but about two days later it just started acting like it had a stuck button. I flashed it back to CM7 to see if it would make a difference and the same problem kept occurring. When I run the key test in CWM it shows button 108 being pushed repeatedly, if I tap around on the screen I can get 103 to show up sometimes but it just keeps spitting 108 out. I tried cleaning the screen and did a complete tear down to see if it was something on the screen but it didn't help.
I looked through a couple of the kl files on mine and show 108 as DPAD_DOWN. I don't know which one is used, but you could try clearing it to see if it continues to interfere.

I had exactly the same problem, the power button was way too sensible (any slight movement would turn the tablet off). I had to open up my nook in order to fix it, it turns out the button was "semi-stuck".
I did a teardown again and reloaded AOKP ICS and now it is working perfectly. Thanks for the help.
someone selling a p970 with a faulty power switch that only sometimes works and i dont know how to fix it
but i found on here about a key 95 POWER WAKE_DROPPED edit file
will that turn the phone on aswell and off or just off??
This belongs to the Question sub forum. And to answer your question, that depend on the rom that you are using.
But it wont turn on the phone. Just lock and unlock.

It works good if you rom on ICS.
Try using cm10. Can utilize the volume for unlocking.

Sometimes working means that more than likely the power key is dirty , a bit of dust or water residue between the contacts.
It is a bit of pain to clean it but not impossible. Takes disassembling the phone mind you.
If the price is good go for it.
(I always use the Gkey unlock screen )
And yes it only works on CM or v30
Hello,
on my Galaxy mini S55701 my power button does not respond. Everything was working fine till the phone restarted all of the sudden and the power button was no longer working. I can't lock/unlock or turn off/on phone with that key. I need to restart it by taking out battery and putting it back in. And the thing is, it automatically turns on as soon as the battery is in.
I tried hard reset it, but it didn't help, so I don't know what to do.
What did you do before that happened? Install any apps, tweaked any system settings?
One suggestion is to flash a custom ROM.
One way to wake your phone without the power button is to edit your sec_keypad.kl file in the system/usr/keylayout folder.
Replace the line
key 102 HOME
with
key 102 HOME WAKE
Then you can wake your phone with the home button, without the need of plucking out and re-inserting the battery.
