I hav e lost the cover for the usb port.
Can I buy a new cover somewhere or do I have to,like Samsung Support said, get a new phone?
I work outside in rainy Norway and therefore need a phone that is sealed. Right know my S4A is not waterproof, and not suitable for joining me all day
Thanks..

It's not actually water proof anyway, merely water resistant. IN any case, that thing breaks and falls off pretty easily.
If you lost yours, I saw this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2474114
in which this link has something which might work for you http://www.topicovers.com/products/micro-usb-port-cover

He says the flap is just for dust protection and that he continues to use it around water without it. I'd personally want some extra confirmation on that myself, but I could see how it would be the case. Mind you, even if water doesn't enter the phone the USB pins will probably be shorted. Not sure if that's safe or not...

Hi there,
the cover for the USB port of my HTC Dream /T-Mobile G1 became loose. The little plastic cable that holds it to the phone ripped but I still had it - I planned to glue the cover back to that plastic cable thing.
Unfortunately I lost that cover now. I was searching the web (including ebay) for replacement but even if I bought a complete housing they'd come without that little plastic cable holding the USB cover.
Does anybody know where to get replacement? By the way I would like to know where to get good (high quality) tools for opening the housing without breaking it.
I appreciate your help.
You would probably have to buy a broken phone and hope that the cover is still intact. While I managed to maintain that cover on mine, I did find it highly frustrating. Many people actually PREFERRED to rip it off. I certainly wouldn't go out of my way to replace it, since that cover really is quite redundant. You won't hurt anything by not having it.
Yes, you're right somehow, it is redundant. It looks a little ugly, though. Maybe someone can still point a way to that cover
2 bricked G1's for sale on ebay for parts:

Thank's for the ebay link. I am already bidding on some broken phones on ebay.de. though. I though was hoping to find that cover as a sparepart somewhere.

Need Galaxy S4 Active Micro USB Port Plastic Cover Piece
Anyone know where to get one? Mine got ripped somehow =(... wonder if this would be an easy fix?
Hopefully we can find a place for it or something. Phones not waterproof without it!
The phone isn't waterproof at all - it's water-resistant which is not even close to the same thing.

You could try this, it's not OEM, but it looks like it will get the job done.

Hello!
True story: while listening to music through my headphones I was looking at the headphonejack cover (which makes it waterproof) and wondering that it is, compared to my old Moto Defy, quite fragile.
2 seconds later I drop the freaking thing and it hits right the ground right on the cover and it breaks in half...
Anyways I have found spare parts here:
http://stellatech.com/sony-lt25i-xperia-v-audio-stecker-cover-(schwarz),a,de,814797.html
I come from germany, so this would be no problem, however I wonder how do i insert the retaining mechanism without opening the xperia? I dont want to void the warranty completely!
And yes, the cover is important to me, I need it to be waterproof!
Thanks for your advice and experience!
Dan
I just want to thank you for the link. My USB cover is broken after 4 months only. Seems on the long run a shocking expensive OEM dock is cheaper than replacing these.
you are welcome.
I think the USB-Cover will be next...especially since I need to charge it quite often. With my DEFY the covers held the whole 3 years of intense usage...
OT: which dockingstation do you use for the V!? the only one i can find with different plugs than the micro USB is for the Z!?

Sony DK25. Look on Ebay. Haven't bought it yet. The price is so scary.
I am using a Chinese type that is meant for the Z, modded, but this is not good I don't recommend it.

well...I think a dock is very impractical anyways. i think this is a perfect time for building something ourselves. Isnt it just a 2 pole magnet plug, to 5V usb!?
Are there any technical specifications avaiable? I would find a plug much more practical than a docking station!

If I have the part there are plenty small handphone workshops here who can do that for a few $. Sorry I also don't know what you want to know.
With a smart design it would be just squeezing the part into some hole for self installation, and Sony would sell these caps in packs of 3 for $ 9.95.

Old thread I know.. but my audio flex cable broke and ordered mine here just now. Much appreciated.
Hi guys , yesterday i noticed Charging terminals on underside of my gear 2 neo look damaged , is anyone else having this problem , i am attaching a Picture
i have been using gear 2 neo for 2 month , never dropped it , And charging works absolutely fine though ..
Looks like a little bit of gunk from skin cells etc. A damp cotton bud should get rid of it.
Sent from my GT-I9505 using XDA Free mobile app
I'm experiencing the same problem for a month or 2 now, I can still charge the watch but it's a struggle to connect it. I've searched the net for people with same issues and found several discussions about it. It seems that plenty of Gear 2 users (including me) and Gear 2 neo users have this issue and people are concluding that it is (well, I also think it really is) a manufacturing defect.
The discussions are composed of 2 types of people, the first ones are the people who claimed their warranty from samsung and had their watch replaced by a new one (excluding the straps and the charger) free of charge. The second ones are the people who claimed but samsung didn't acknowledged the warranty as it is a "physical damage" and are charged around $200 for the repair/replacement.
I on the other hand did a workaround with my watch temporarily (see last attached photo). I will try to claim my warranty from the shop where I bought the watch and from samsung and see if I will have any luck, my warranty will end tomorrow so I'll try it today.
I hope this reply is of any help to you and to all others who might also experience the same problem; and I do hope that samsung will also acknowledge my warranty.

My probpem has been solved . well almost
Thankyou for replying
My watch was not in warranty .
The solution that worked for me was , i painted the terminals with 20$ circuit scribe pen .
The conductive ink wasnt water resistant . so i placed small piece of papr on terminals and put a transparent tape over it .
Since then i can charge my watch .. I once reapplied the paint as my sweat got to the terminals .
This worked for me now i use android wear on it and almost have to charge it daily then reapply tape over terminals

Just came back from service center. The acknowledged my warranty as the damage (they said) wasn't avoidable. Repairs/replacement will take 3-7days, thank goodness.
Anyway your solution is very interesting, Imma take note on that as my watch might experience the same issue again someday.
May I ask how did the terminals (with ink) and the charging dock made contact if you placed a small piece of paper and transparent tape over the terminals?
Thanks in advance.

Glad you got ur replacement
Thats the only annoying thing abt it , i have to remove the tape each time i want to charge then reapply .

Oh, well I had that in mind too, I plan to place a tape over the terminals when I use it everyday then remove it when charging.
I was on android wear before I reverted back to tizen to claim my warranty. After getting back my watch I'll go back to wear sooo I think I'll need a lot of tape as wear last for only a day and 4 hours for me.
Anyway, I hope this thread will be helpful to everybody and I suggest not closing this so that we could help people who will experience the same issue.

AFAIK there's none.
Anyway, status update:
I got my watch back from service center in less than 72Hrs! They replaced the whole watch except for the strap.

Really glad you got the replacement . i on the other hand had no such option since samsung doesnt sale this watch officially in Pakistan . and i got it on my last visit to usa .
I would still advice you to use any tape pver those terminals because from my experience their expiry date is 6months
I too use android wear right now , (i have become an active google now user and would suggest all tizen users to try android wear atleast once ).
i actually repply the same tape again and again for few days . i wish there was some conductive tape though. But couldnt find any

Remember to put a small paper on terminals then apply tape those terminals and cover of heart rate sensor are really easy to pullout when removing tape . actually happened to me first time . then i permanantly applied transparent tape in H shape (with horizontal line above HR sensor .) so it wont comeout each time i apply a small tape over terminals
(Hope i am not confusing anyone here )
I bought mine almost new secondhand. Knowing that the copper contacts wear fast due to skin sweat and soaps, i will dab a little layer of molten lead over the contacts. Yes. Soldering lead. It will frther thicken the coper contacts and still provide conductivity. I will be very careful on quickly applying soldering lead without melting the plastic since i am a little bit of an expert in those kinds of soldering methods. I wouldn't suggest to those who has bad soldering skilss or novice skills on soldering. I am not that confident, but if i see some sign of corrosion i will do that method. Work at your own risk. detach terminals first from device before trying to do something. And please use a very fine soldering iron tip and low wattage soldering iron.
wow guys, i dont know why any of you didnt go to the ifixit website and look at the teardown. It looks FAR easier to disassemble than most phones ive fixed and the charge pad replacement parts are like $9 on ebay. I think you guys went the hard way to fix this. Id just replace the pads if mine started to corrode.
Had mine changed twice (replacing the whole watch, keeping the band) and 4 months since the last change its coroding again.
As I only have till end of year warranty, probably will get it changed again and sell it. Not impressed by that design flaw
:good:
I too was very disappointed . I have shifted to Moto 360 myself . Bought it off sale this year from amazon

Yes . I checked that . It's just that there were no parts available for Gear 2 anywhere when this thread was started . Thank God they are available now.
I too have ordered replacement contacts from
http://s.aliexpress.com/mey2Mve6
For 7.3 USD
I just hope they are durable . Haven't yet received em

I have a broken USB port and looking to open this up and replace, but haven't seen anything posted. I found this, so if this will work...the heating up bit I haven't' done before to remove a back cover, but if lieu of a repair not sure how useful the tablet is
Anyone replace this part before?
Thanks!
NitDawg
It looks like it's modular - probably pretty simple to fit.
But remember - the Tab is plastic welded shut and you need to heat it up to separate the halves.
Depending on whether Murphy's Law visit you a lot (as it does me), you might be better of sending it in for repairs.

I've read about many different ways of heating to open the tablet. A simple solution that worked well for me, was using a plain old steam iron, a single edge razor blade of the type used in box openers and an exacto knife. Be careful not to cut the LCD ribbon cable on the bottom edge of the tablet. It starts about 3" in from the Samson logo side of the tablet.
Thanks all! Yeah, I've opened up a few others before, but not one with heat. Using a place close by in the Raleigh area, they were willing to do it for $70 including the part...so well-worth it to me.
Thanks again!
Worth the price is they do it right, seal it up again, guarantee the work...
So after 2 different repair shops and half a year later, I was able to get this replaced. The first place held it for a month waiting for the part and eventually said it was not going to come in (strange). I let it sit for a while and then hit up another repair store...they said they can get the part. Was read the riot act on the risk, etc...but it was worthless at this point, so why not. They were able to do and all appears fine.
However, I wanted to transfer some files in prep for maybe a newer ROM when I noticed the replacement port does not allow any data transfer. I have another T810, so I know its not the various cables I tried. So that part is a bummer, but at least it charges...not sure why data transfer does not work, but I'm taking it!
