Guys and gals, do read my blog if you want to know the latest news from Barcelona - I've been posting a LOT of articles & shots on both Sony's XPERIA X1, Opera Mobile 9.5, the competition (Nokia, BB etc.), the latest e-paper readers, new stuff etc. I can't cross-post them in here or even follow the related thread because my connection is very-very restricted and expensive - sorry for you having to visit another webpage.
That is, don't forget to check out and regularly visit http://www.pocketpcmag.com/blogs/ - even without my updating this thread. (Again, sorry, I can't cross-post my stuff and can't even regularly update my announcements.)
(I'll unstick this thread when MWC is over and, after having returned to home, I can resume my regular posting. That is, it's not a permanent "plug" of my blog )

Thanks for the news, this is good stuff. I quite fancied the Sony err xperia 1 but then noticed in www.htc.com press release section (materials relating) mentions about them taking on the xperia. Could this mean hold backs on the possible identifying device..Who knows, but I still quite fancy it. And suppose if HTC do release the drivers at the end of March like metioned at www.htcclassaction.org then I would buy another HTC device although I would be more cautious and probably wait for a few people from here to get one first.
Thanks again for your blog!! Good reading..
Hope to hear from you again..
diigibio (diigimatrix)
good blog
but reading....it seems S E won't even say if the video driver is going to be fixed...that is just making htc look even worse if you ask me. I think they are making the phone right? Bad sign, they are dodging things, and the phone hasn't even been released.....
Why would SE make the same mistake as HTC?

Cause SE does not produces the Hardware. The internal PCB and all on-board is HTC OEM or ODm production.
HTC "might" again provide a chipset build without driver support. That is why.
Advice: Avoid Xperia as long S E does not confirm FULL specs of the Qualcomm CPU being used.
Any notice of spb mobile shell?

While I can't discosure the name of the manufacturer (they have asked me not to do so after our discussion), there is a far-east ODM that is working on the 3D Qualcomm drivers for their own Qualcomm-based devices. They stated they'd be ready in 2-3 months. They stated while they indeed have to do some manual coding, Qualcomm does (already) support 3D in the hardware.
You all know what this means - yes, we will hopefully be able to rip all those drivers after the (pretty close) release of the devices.
That definitely looks like something to look forward to. Please keep us informed, if you can.

Sure I will. Hope we can do some kind of a co-operation between the company in question and our Qualcomm coders / hackers with mutual benefits.
(I'm already discussing this stuff privately with other mods. Details aren't public as yet.)
Just posted a brand new link & some great pics of the XPERIA X1 to http://www.pocketpcmag.com/blogs/in...y_ericsson_xperia_x1_new&more=1&c=1&tb=1&pb=1
Thanks Werner,
However, I really dont like that Qualcomm ... I hope SE managed to put hardware graphics acceleration drivers ... otherwise ... toast.

The S-E rep I've in person talked to didn't want to comment on whether it will surely have 3D hardware acceleration or not - unlike what the flyier states (in there, they speak of 3D hardware acceleration).
However, a completely independent manufacturer is (also?) working on the drivers. I'll try to do some kind of a co-operation, if at all possible, between them and the XDA-Devs coders.
Yes, I read that as well (about independent manufacturer). I am really appreciate your effort.
After reading your latest blog entry regarding this Xperia and found about:
- It is still based on Qualcomm MSM7xxx
- It is still 128 MB RAM
- It is still 256 MB Flash
I am less excited ...
I meant compared to Kaiser, there are not much upgrade.
- More resolution (800x480), yes this nice, but 3"? Not really big boost compared to current QVGA. For sure, it will look nicer, but I would rather to have 640x480 ... and 3.5" screen!
- More CPU power, I think 400 vs 528 will not add a lot (remember, the RAM is still 128MB) ... 624 would be nice (and add more RAM )
- FM Radio? Hmm, I dont need this for sure ...
- Xperia Panel? Could be nice, but I will not upgrade just because of this
- Windows 6.1? Dutty has that already ...
The rest are the same (GPSOne, Camera, etc.).
Well, maybe it is just me, but I found Xperia X1 does not offer much upgrade to current Kaiser.

hey Menneisyys, i think your magazine carefully forgot the bit about the drivers in their Tilt review
http://www.pocketpcmag.com/cms/node/1302
No news on the Meizu M8 in Barcelona? Any idea if they still gonna show it on Cebit?
I would have more trust on that one as that "unknown" Xperia ODM manufacture would not be involved in the driver set-up

Yup, that's their old article. In the last one (I'm their tech editor), which will be published in the next issue, I've inserted two sentences mentioning the driver issue and pointing to this very forum. Hope it gets thru as it was 2 days before going to print that I've done this and the layout was already pretty much finalized.

Haven't checked it myself as it's "just" a WinCE-based phone, not a WinMo one. Dunno if Engadget and the other sites covered it.
Albeit, I'm certainly interested in the S5L8900 chipset it has (the same as in the iPhone and is prolly much better than the old S3C244x in, say, the TyTN) (see http://www.gearlog.com/2007/07/iphone_processor_whats_with_th.php ). While I don't think it can beat the brand new S3C6400 / S3C6410, which will only be used later by devices from Samsung and E-ten (the latter was confirmed by a Samsung rep at MWC), it's certainly much better than the S3C244x and has, for example, 3D hardware acceleration support.

So the Xperia X1 will have stand-alone GPS and not just aGPS?
The thread has been stopped, until more research is done on this.
Let me know if this is working for anyone yet ? :d
I remember GadgetCheck was telling something about it some time ago....he said it was not working, but might have been something different...do not remember exactly
not working in what sense. installation or application ?
tested with poweramp audio player, definately sound difference ( low pitch but better output )
Apparently it screws your speakers....
IMPORTANT:
To Dev's who are or will try to port xLoud,
Trust me i already did that and my speakers are partially dead now.
So please dont include it in your ROM's.
Refer to >HERE< So moral of the story include Sony Bravia Engine but dont include xLoud

...good luck lol seems like headache, returned the phone to get fix.
I have a xperia z (c6602)
water proof on the part of the service when I tested the service test menu, "this device does not support the function" writes. What is the meaning of it. my device is not waterproof?
I don't think waterproof test can be done with software
Sent from my C6603 using xda premium
Well ofc it can't be done with Software... but at his place i would feel better when the software test say's 'ok' or 'yes'.. just to be more sure :d
My guess is it has something to do with the message popping up the first time you unplug your headset, where it is reminding you to make sure the lids are properly closed to avoid water damage.

i think it s default menu of android But i don't why is it thr and why sony didn't edit it !!!
I think waterproof test in android would require a barometer sensor like on samsung... You dip it in the water then the barometer sensor kicks in measuring the pressure and humidity inside the phone.
The reason why "unsupported" appears is because they re-use the same service menu apk on multiple devices. Some of those devices probably support hardware-testing for waterproofiness via electrically conductive wiring in the flaps or something, which is obviously not foolproof and can give a false readings, ironically enough, if there is enough water between the contacts... hehehe. This, and to reduce design complexity, is probably why the functionality isn't included on the XZ.
I have the same problem in my Xperia Z too. If "this device does not support the function" writes, really does not support?? what wrong??

hi all big thank you for clicking on this thread,
after many hours of Google searching this is how i found a gem and stumbled across xda and what it has to offer ( to good to be true i am such a nobe! )
so i thought its worth a long shot and ask a some one who eats sleeps and treats there android like it there life
so i come to right my saga on this very annoying problem! in hopes that i find a fix
i have a sony c6903 i bought in pieces quite literally and after many hours of cooking chromosomes and phone surgery and losing that tiny spring as you do and a sudden development of turrets after as you know its important, i went out getting new parts ( front lcd glass rear glass sim card tray < the reset button is where that little spring is ) and way more to much to list but i bought the workings of near enough a new phone very odd but wasn't gonna let it defeat me
but any way
all seams to be fine and working well apart from the GPS on the handset
i tried to purge the gps by putting *#*#7378423#*#* in the phone dialer and purge the assistance data with out no joy i also ran a diagnostic from the setting in the phone and it says no gps found test failed,
completely baffled that something so small i guess can be a big problem ( i am talking about the phone here )
could any one please please help as i'm chucking down the gauntlet here
