Need help with Google voice - Moto X Q&A

Can't set up Google voice in my Verizon
Moto x. Any ideas?

not sure what you mean by "set up"...
some carriers do not let you modify your voicemail settings through the google voice app, you have to use their technical support. that means in order to use google voice as your voicemail provider you need to call your carriers customer service and tell them to set your phone to forward UNANSWERED calls to #GOOGLE VOICE NUMBER#.

Thanks. I found that I had to choose Google voice under phone settings as my voicemail. And then in dialer dial *71(Google voicemail #)

using google voice

does anyone know of any one app that can set only CERTAIN numbers in my contact list to be called using google voice and includes a dialer as well? i'll gladly pay for an app that includes this functionality. i kind of can't believe something like this wasn't included in the stock app?

You can set Google Voice to ask you if you want to use it to make the call every time you try to call someone.
yeah, i had that option selected for a while, but it got to be mega annoying. thanks, though!

Try Voice Plus Free from the market. You have to add which numbers you DO NOT want to call with Google Voice.

[Q] how to setup google voice for voicemail

Ok so I think that I found this before but on the xda app search can't seem to find again. Is there anything special I have to do to get google voice to work as voice mail?

I think its *#004##yournumber#. Might be 1 too many # or minus a * lol

if you have google voice installed on your phone, just go into your main settings, call settings, voicemail, and select google voice as your voicemail provider
nahhh..that didn't work for me at least. I had to initiate it online..since then no problems

[Q] is there a way to use carrier voicemail and google voice?

I love getting google voice transcriptions sent via text message but being that I have a limited days plan with att (250 mb) I'd still like to use carrier voicemail to listen to the message in order to save valuable data usage. Is this possible?

You can call your Google voice number and listen to it like the normal one so you are using minutes and not data

Just make sure you don't look at the transcript on your Google voice app first. Once the voicemail is marked as read, you can't listen to it on the phone call. Once you update your voicemail preferences, the voicemail key on your dial pad will call Google voice instead of att.

How do I clear the voicemail icon?

I set my voicemail to go to Google Voice, but someone just left me a voicemail, and it never showed up on Google Voice, and that annoying icon is in my notification bar. How do I get rid of it? Also, is there anything special you have to do to set up Google Voice with Verizon/the Bionic?
Clear data on the dialer application.

This sometimes happens when your google voice line is "busy". The caller will be reverted back to your old voicemail. You can disable google voice by dialing *73 and then choosing "my carrier" in the voicemail settings. Then you can dial in to your verizon voicemail. After you get the message the notification will go away and you can reactivate google voice by dialing *71(your google number) and redo the voicemail setting to "google voice".
My co-worker has this happen occasionally.

I miss Google Voice.

I switched to Sprint from Verizon. I've been effortlessly using Google Voice to answer/transcribe my calls on the Droid 1, the galaxy nexus and the note 3. Now with sprint + nexus 6,i can install the app but can't get it to answer calls. Ideas?
You use Google hangout to answer calls and see voicemail now. Also get hangouts dialer

Above (zephiK) has provided the direct-VoIP solution, as an alternative, there is the traditional Google Voice solution, which is to actually forward the call to your mobile number. You may have forgotten to update your google voice account settings to add your phone number and enable forwarding. It is also possible that hangouts (application) may be interfering with forwarding, so check the google voice settings in the hangouts application.
