Web Browsing on unrooted Gear - Samsung Galaxy Gear

Hey, haven't seen this mentioned yet, but ScreenShare works for our phones and gear so we can have a full Web browser on our watches.
Here is what I did.
Installed ScreenShare on my Note 3.(No need for pro)
Used Wondershare MobileGo to install the -tablet- version of ScreenShare on the Gear.
Launch them both and change the connection type to Bluetooth.
If you are already paired between you phone and watch then they will appear under Paired devices and you just need to select the phone from the Gear.
If you are not paired, say you don't have a Note 3, there is a Setup Wizard option built in which will find your devices and set it all up for you.
After all the connections are done, just run the browser and it will open on both your phone and Gear, but from here on you don't even need the phone screen on and it won't sync screens until you press a designated button to do so.
Sometimes, it will mess up using the browser button saying you have no service, to get around this (every time in my testing) use the Help button, then go to the FAQs. The browser will open to the apps website FAQs and from there you can go to any site you want like normal.
The app also sync all your documents, music, videos, and pictures for use on the Gear as well. Fun stuff.
Hope this helps everyone who has been looking for a way to surf the Web via Gear.

nice find! works flawlessly, except that we could have a bigger working space.
the address bar should automatically hide, and the navigation buttons should be toggled by a gesture.
other than that, EAT THIS SAMSUNG! it's possible to web browse, and we want it!

Awesome, glad it worked for you too! I am planning to let the app creators know that this works for the Gear as well in hope that they might add gestures and the hide address bar as you said.
If not, maybe someone more skilled then myself can make something similar based off this.

Cool. What is this doing to your battery life. Was planning something but figured that it might drain the battery as hell.

Haven't noticed anything that drastically different. Other than the fact I am using more screen on time.
The Bluetooth connection is all shared so it's just the same as having it paired in the first place.
I got a full day use out of it, with
ATN, Tablet Talk, and ScreenShare all on.
Did quite a bit of Web Browsing trying stuff out. I also had several calls and maybe... 100ish texts if I had to guess.
I'll try tomorrow just having it on but not actually browsing to see if I notice a change.

Finally i can check my facebook on my wrist, haha!
Does this mean the phone's screen will be on in my pocket though?
I'll try this over the weekend.

Nope, phones screen will be off. But you can press that button in the middle, the up arrow one, and it will send the Gears screen to the phone and turn it on to view there.

You will need to sideload it through ADB or Wondershare. There is some guides on the forums but I will try to summarize.
Download wondershare on PC.
Install and connect to the Gear via USB. Then using Wondershares browser, search for and install ScreenShare tablet. It will download and install right to the Gear and then you are done.
You also will need a keyboard app. I use Hackers Keyboard, but I've heard people who had success with Google Keyboard.
Search and install either the same way as above then restart the Gear. This is important, the keyboard will not work until you fully restart the Gear.
Good luck! I will try to respond better soon as I get home.

Little unfortunate thing I just noticed, we can only have three Bluetooth connections including the Gear Manager itself. (So two third party) these include stuff like Ebay, Evernote, ATN, Tablet Talk, and ScreenShare.
So if these do not work for you, try turning one of those off. Hope a firmware update might increase this limit.
Battery life has hasn't been any worse than a normal days use for me today. I do not think it effects battery any more than Screen on and Bluetooth on does in the first place.

Nope, I'm not rooted on either device. Hackers Keyboard is nice just because you can customize the size of everything to your needs.

For anyone who doesn't want to or can't use wondeshare you can just download .apk extractor from the play store and extract it from the tablet version downloaded to your phone. I've been using this as the easiest way to get .apk files for my gear. There's an in app export that I just email myself the app's apk.

I just want to say thanks! I've been waiting on sinew type of Internet connection. I feel like my wants and needs are complete now with the watch. Between ATN, Screensaver, and my other customizations, I'm extremely happy.
One question though, has anyone had any luck with getting any video to play using this, like YouTube from the browser? Or any other Web video. As this would surly be the icing on the cake!

You're welcome! Glad this has been working well for you and everyone else. For your YouTube question, I am thinking we may be able to install an old Flash player apk to the Gear. It will depend on if the ScreenShare browser supports Flash like Dolphin or Stock browser.
Going to try that today, curious now.

Atooma finally available for the gear

Atooma seems to be a rudimentary tasker type app.
I played around with a bit, made a profile where the vertical movement would silence my phone but the controls are way to sensitive. Just moving your wrist is enough to trigger the action. Not a bad start I guess, what profiles or uses can you guys think of?
Another semi cool action I made is when I flick my wrist, my phone opens up google now.

I tried to set up a rule to send gmail messages, but when they come through on the gear, it just give the subject and time of the email and says to check the phone for more info.
This is interesting, are we installing this on our gear or our phones ?
Both. you need the app on your phone from the play store and the Gear app from the Gear manager app store.

EDIT: Verified the APK supplied is for the gear.
The reason for this is the Atooma APK we have available on the play store is not compatible with gear.
Here's the APK from the phone
(It is too big to attach to the forum)
I've stopped using it on the Gear as the notifications just say to check the phone for more detail.
Using the Samsung email app seems to be the only way at the moment to get email details to the Gear.
I cant get these working together !
I install both apk's, although I cant see any options for the gear on the atoomba app..
I just recieve a "Please check Atooma phone app." error on the gear.
^^^I get the same as well
After both are installed(phone and watch) you have to enable the gear as a device in the Atooma phone app.
It's under the "connections" tab.

You can root and install Bluetooth File Transfer and send to other bluetooth devices, install Evernote, send it that way, or sync the pic with your phone and share from your phone.
No rooting necessary. Side load Tablet Talk with wondershare and you can share straight from the watch to anyone...just make sure you know the number. It doesn't sync contacts.

I am newbie, don't even know what side-load means. I tried Bluetooth Transfer, but I am not rooted, whatever that is.. So, it doesn't work..
I am going to keep reading and most likely I will find out how to side load.. The Samsung rep loaded a couple pics off my Note 3 to the Gear, but he didn't know how he did it...
It seems the mini-gallery is working. I loaded a lot of my pics and vids on my Note 3. I have a 64gb sd card, so I was real liberal with the amount of pictures. Today, I hit the mini-gallery app on my GG and sure enough, I could browse all my pics..haven't tried the vids..

Well mine is working like a charm. Not rooted. App is "mini gallery"... I have it on the face of my GG. I tap it, it shows me the pics on the camera, and what I have stored on the Note 3.. Shows them all.
It works for me now, i just uninstalled the 1.5 tablet in gear and installed 1.7 and with that version the share worked
Still cant find the .apk file in my note3 for my tablet talk i bought would be great to use that instead in my gear.

It's not easy to text more than a couple words since the keyboard covers the screen. You can still text on your phone.

You must have tablet talk installed on both devices so that they are able to communicate with each other via bluetooth.
How to install:
- Download/purchase the app on your phone
- Copy the .apk file from /data/app on your phone to your gear (via bluetooth or computer transfer)
- install the app on your gear
- [IMPORTANT] Set up your gear as a phone and phone as a tablet. This makes the two pair properly. Otherwise you can't pair them due to the tiny gear screen
- In settings, switch the phone to phone and the gear to tablet.
- Install a keyboard if you don't already have one.
- Note - you must be bluetooth tethered from your phone to receive internet connection for this to work
- Enjoy
After about 3 days of trial and error, this is the only way I could find to set the 2 up properly. I hope this helps others.

It seems texting directly from the Gear is something to be used sparingly. On a normal work day (w/o TT) I would come home and the Gear would be at 81%. My first day of using TT and texting from my Gear exclusively, I hit 50% in 4 hours.

SlingPlayer

Anyone else install SlingPlayer out of curiosity? It installs and works well w/ BT tethering. The one thing I cannot seem to change is the app auto-rotates the image 90 degrees, so you have to take the watch off to watch it. Is there an Xposed mod or another way of rotating the image back?

You can set orientation with app settings (xposed module).
Would have never guessed this works well? Which slingbox do you have? I'm very doubtful that the stream would be good enough via BT tethering?

Rooting my gear tonight... Question

I was told if I root my gear I can use bluetooth tether and essentially run apps on my gear. The apps I'm looking to run are for my car alarm and ingress. So what I was wondering is what I was told true? And do I just have to root my gear or does my phone have to be rooted as well? Because right now I have the Note 3 completely stock and unrooted.

You dont need to root your gear in order to run custom apps, depending on what type of app it is tho they may or may not work..
I would read up on side loading applications first, test the waters out.. the apps you require may work straight out of the box by simply side loading them to your gear with out rooting.
Alternatively if you find the apps dont work, you can try loading my rom which includes a few library's, unlocked features & other various functions that some apps require in order to run correctly.
EDIT: Here is a simple guide on how to sideload applications: HERE

Awesome thank you! I'll have to read up on how you sideload apps. I saw a YouTube video where guy was actually playing ingress on his watch, what was on his phone screen transferred to watch screen same for his car alarm app, he just didn't say if it was rooted or not I just figured it was lol. Sorry had to edit my post. I do think you probably needs to be rooted to run something like ingress since it's an online game and the gear can't run anything online like a game or Facebook so I guess maybe that's why it has to be rooted and use a Bluetooth transfer lol I'm a very big newbie when it comes to the gear.

Bluetooth tethering is the easiest way. If you root your watch you can actually install play store and download as if it's a tablet tethered. Some apps may need to be wifi spoofed with is a xposed module included in null.
Keep in mind your phone needs to be running an international rom. I had to get rid of my T-Mobile rom for an international to enable Bluetooth tethering. Wasn't the watch holding me back, rather the phone itself
